I think what makes factorio a success is that it's approachable to begin and then scales from there with each tier adding exponentially to the previous. Where a game like COI starts with a lot of complexity and scales incrementally. It's fun, don't get me wrong, but there is a lot to understand before you can even play.
Agree the initial startup has a huge overhead and takes a few play throughs to achieve "success". At the same time it is all pretty casual which is cool 🤷
First, I really like this game. Started playing along with you since the game was first released. I may be in the minority but I like your TH-cam videos much more than your twitch content. I just don’t have the time to watch you on twitch all that much (although it’s really good for seeing the process’s it takes to figure out the designs). Further, I’m a Patreon supporter and therefore find value in what you provide and support your work. And now for a small thing that’s been bothering me. It seems that since you started focusing on twitch your You Tube videos seem very rushed. What I mean by this is that you talk very fast, like you need to rush to meet a time limit. In this video for instance, I wouldn’t have minded this being two videos, particularly as its directed to beginners (and I’m an experienced player). I liked it better when you presented things in a slower and more methodical manor. Once again, I’m a fan of your work but at times I get a bit agitated at the sometimes-frenetic pace of your You Tube game pace. Of course, I have no idea of what it takes to be successful and make money on You Tube so my take could be completely unworkable. Anyway, thanks and I’ll continue to follow you as you move forward.
I agree with this 100% I have a really hard time trying to follow what Nilaus is doing. I really love his content, and have been following his videos for quite a while now, but I would ask you Nilaus please, if you can try and slow things down a bit, to make it easier for us older folk to take things in, and to try and understand the deep mechanics of this game.
Same-have loved the earlier vids but this was way too fast as I’m just starting out since I’ve finally been talked into getting CoI but I made it 10 minutes and am going to find another vid. Update: now that I have a better handle on the game mechanics the speed is fine… just REALLY tough for someone that’s just starting out.
two notes. his twitch is pretty funny, but they do go super long an i dont have time to consume all that either. second, theres a replay speed option in youtube an id really recommend you run him at 75% or lower to keep from having to pause as much. this mother fucker has caused me to spend more money on steam than any other ads or people. ive bought 90% of his first look games so as a bonus maybe dont watch them ;)
Nice. Great to see you doing a new playthrough of this. Your bus in the most recent DSP playthrough really reminded me of your last COI playthrough so I've been looking forward to this for a while.
Was playing a High Seas version of this for a bit, to demo it since you can only get so much out of watching a video. Was definitely worth the $43 when I finally bought it.
Was just thinking I haven't seen Nilaus on my youtube recommended videos for a bit, I should see what he's up to. Then see he's got the new Captain of Industry playthrough going after the big update. So awesome! Let the playthrough commence!
Never bought the game, and everytime I watch your plays I want to buy it. And that is rinse and repeat for you (eg. me) :) Honestly I think I love the game more to watch than to play. Ofcourse I wouldn't know that for sure. So here I am, maybe one day I am going to make that purchase. Untill than, thank you for the twitch streams and the youtubes ;)
You should buy it. Like some people already pointed, the game has a little steep learning curve, but once you overcome it, COI will give you hundreds hours of fun.
i love it when Nilaus does this he really sounds like a teacher but he still does make mistakes sometimes but hee that's Human but his normal play is also good
Picked this game up the other day, having fun learning all the mechanics. Kinda reminds me of a modern day Banished. Anyway, great video! Thanks for the help!
I'll bet that reducing the number of smoke stacks you use would be good for pollution management. Especially since I'm sure there are uses for the exhaust gases.
I recommend doing this without the tutorial an rewards to see if its possible to get started without the bonus rewards Which would make the island builder simulator more realistic
In the late game, I am getting lost where I have what factory and so on. Especially if I continue CoI from a break, I don't remember where I have oil factory etc. Is there any easy way to navigate factories in the map? Like cycling same buildings, for an example just like in Against the Storm so the camera brings you directly to the position of certain building.
Do you get the overlay through the dumping/mining shortcut or does it have a separate hotkey? Ps Thank you for all your perfect layout videos. That playlist is my CoI bible :))
I didn’t realise when ore sorters were unlocked, I thought it was something later so I had been blasting my trucks with Unity constantly to sort mixed loads. Oops
I think you accidently built your rain water collectors over the top of the ground water. Thats gonna reduce the ground water you get when it rains, might be worth moving them.
No. It does not matter what you place over the Aquifers (ground water). They refill over time whether it rains or not. Raining has no effect on the Aquifers in this game.
Hello, Nilaus, can you do a tier list video for all the supply chain games you've played? I'm playing Anno 1800 with my gf and it's super fun, wondering if there are any other games like it besides Frostpunk and Captain of Industry
🤣🤣🤣oh are you in for a treat then, there are 100s of games that are similar to the games you listed, its a whole genre Besides the whole Anno series you have the "anno likes" of which alot of the newer ones are-- Celestial Empire (playtest for right now) , New cycle and quite a few more On the overall colony builder/management side are games are ones like Immortal mayor, Desynced: Autonomous Colony Simulator (its more closer to factorio though), Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic, The Settlings (Demo for now), Nordlings (more closer to rimworld which would also be on this list), King of the Dwarves: Underground City Builder (not out yet) Tons of others, I know you asked for supply chain games but all those have that in it lol but it'll get you one the right track of searching them all down. Unless you specifically just want what he has then I cant answer that 😅
@@joedirtakabruce I wasn't looking for a list, I was looking for a tier list. I'd only try tier S/A games because if it's not a good as Anno, then my gf probably won't like it
@@slimpwarriorkinda what I thought, but the only way you'd find that is to try it yourself (some of those listed you can try for free). At the end of the day, though, you're wanting something that's purely someone else's preference or what they see as that type of game when it isnt, so S/A ones could be your F/C ones. Noone can really give you that. Unless you only want what they like regardless of how you feel about it🤷♂️ If your looking to compare the anno likes to anno itself then you'll have an easier time but it'll be hit or miss regardless, even in the anno series itself they aren't as good to eachother😅, some are worse than their predecessors and others are better. I tried though😅, the result is the same no matter if one is above the other or not. Unless you just buy it without checking it out bc it was on a popular list. GL though you've got a start regardless now
You can use the shortcut keys if you have them memorized before you have them unlocked. So yeah I'm not sure what researching has to do with the tools as long as you know the shortcut keys.
Hey Nilaus. I totaly love this game. Only big big problem with it imo is there is no multiplayer option. If it were like factorio with multiplayer, then probebly more ppl wil buy and play it. We live in a internet time were we like to play with friends and share fun times with friends. Why play a solo game then? The game had so much going for it when i 1st got it. Then i see there is no plan for multiplayer. Just SAD
If you play good, you get Unity which make the game easier. If you're bad, you forgot maintanence which makes your game harder. Uhm, there is something wrong here.
The issue with this game isn't that it doesn't have a big community it's because it's not good, it is a cookie cutter copy of so many other games without adding anything truly unique I'll pass but thx for trying to showcase something "new" 😅😂
Tbh it is different. Factorio has a specific itch, satisfactory has it, Dyson sphere has it, this game has more logistical things with it vs those you are limited by your trucks which means you have to plan your logistics around freeing up as many trucks as you can vs just build bigger.
I think what makes factorio a success is that it's approachable to begin and then scales from there with each tier adding exponentially to the previous. Enjoying as I'm new to this game and there is a bit of a learning curve, so watching how to do things is very helpful. Cheers, keep them coming.
COI is awesome. The additions in Update 2 are awesome.

Excited to start a new save with your walkthrough of n the side! Love your gameplay and style❤❤
Excellent, more CoI content !! Great to see the new update being examined.

What I like is that this is contemporary industrial automation
It is a great game I can confirm
I'll bet that reducing the number of smoke stacks you use would be good for pollution management. Especially since I'm sure there are uses for the exhaust gases.
Playing it as I watch! Thanks! Loving this game!!
Thanks for the vid. Great teaching 😌
Love this game and your content 🎉❤🎉
as a youtuber COI should’ve given you the Supporter Version of the game so you can showcase the new maps. love the this play through ❤
Nilaus is awesome. Yay new vid!
8:21 Vehicles need 3 tiles’ width to pass, or 5 for the largest late game ones, so making the road 16 tiles wide is massive overkill.
Thanks!
Wow, that was quick 🎉
Building new settlements from others trash. I love it
Thank you for the interesting video!

Omg its Banished and Factorio combined but with vehicles 👁👁

COI great building game but needs pirates
Engagement.
Is this publicly out yet or is it streamers special?
It comes out at 17 UTC today (it was delayed 3 hours)
Dang was really wanting to see the Dyson sphere filled put more.

@@jamiec8096 good to know. I always avoided building stuff over them just incase. 😂
Have you ever thought about playing the game called Songs of Syx?
3x18=45
Hope you was trolling, because 3×18 most definitely does not equal 45...its 54
