The 01 Cobras make such a great sound. And they are so fun to drive, owned one 13 years ago. Mineral Grey with Black racing stripes. 😂It was my venture into my now 03 Terminator that I now own as a much older person. 😂Appreciate this video. It is nice to know things and remember them because time passes by so quickly.
Great video, very detailed and informative. I bought an 01 True Blue Cobra in July of 2016. Very fun car! My previous car was a 1998 V6 Mustang. So I understand how u felt when u drove a Cobra for the first time!!
I just bought an 01 Cobra a few weeks ago, I have always had my STI and this is my first v8 car and WOW, this thing is heaps of fun. Very hearty acceleration on these 4 valves. I’m very satisfied with my purchase.
It’s similar to my Mach 1. Great care free power not having to worry about boost and AFR, but if you do boost it, it will be all the more fun (just keep it to 450 rear wheel hp for the rods on that year th-cam.com/video/yCrcWxy2sbk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=49_8h1x2ASviSAph
My father has a performance red 01 cobra convertible (black top) just hit 45k miles. Isn't fast compared to today's standards but none the less a fun weekend play toy. Always remember begging him to trade it in on a 03-04 terminator when I was younger lol. Great video man👍
My Grandpa had an 01 cobra black on black. I have so many memories of it but he had to sell it in 2012 but then the next year got a 2012 mustang 5.0. I must say I love that one too haha. Great video!!!
Danny Johnson yeah true. My grandpa loved it and so did I but needed the money at the time. I’m 17 going to be 18 looking to get a 90-93 foxbody or a 94-01 cobra.

Hi Danny, I have an all original 2001 Cobra and I’d like it to have a bit more bite for 0-60 sprints. Nothing drastic, where can I find information about how changing the differential gears (3.55’s) will affect how my car will behave? BTW: You and Justin are doing a great job of deepening the level of New Edge Mustang information available. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us all.
Thank you! I have 2 playlists I’ll share on changing the stock 3.27 gears to 4.10s. That will help the most. You’ll need to remove the differential, then the gear install playlist I have is for solid rear axle, but the actual gear install is the same th-cam.com/play/PLIjr-uSYDZi4GVUMK2SdUL74fClSt4-IZ.html
Those videos are getting me to thinking that changing my 3.27’s to 3.55 will give me the 0-60 bite and yet not be too aggressive for daily driving and road trips. What I’m curious to know about the 3.55’s are: +0-60 time, +3.55 shift points/speeds +speedometer accuracy. I don’t mind sacrificing top speed for 0-60 time, I just don’t want to be speed shifting at every stop sign or intersection. I can’t think of anything else unless you have additional information that I should consider. Your differential removal/installation video looks to be very thorough although, I do need to study the gear swap video carefully. In this 2001 Cobra video you mention wishing that the 2001 Cobra had come with something other than the 3.27, which gear do you think would best fit with this high revving engine? (Sorry for being possibly verbose).
I have a 2001 I'd say burgundy red darker than the laser red almost maroon cherry color.. I did see this color when he was talking about options offered how rare is my color?? Wow.
Kyle Howell totally agree. I’d obviously love to have a terminator but I really love the ‘99 / ‘01 now that I own one. still gets tons of compliments everywhere I go.
Hello Danny... On 9-20-18, I found a used 2001 Mineral Gray Cobra Convertible 40,000 miles. It is Car # 2582. In the last eight year, this older couple only drove it 4000 miles, the rest of the time the car spent in a heated garage. The paint and interior are in great shape and I will be installing a stock replacement K&N air filter and tinting the glass. I hope to keep the car as stock as possible. The tires were 11 years old so I have replace them. My next issue is with the IRS bushings. At freeway speed, I can feel the car moving from side to side. If anyone has, any suggestions I would like to hear them.
Michael Kloeckner Bushing kits are a bit pricy, and my advice would be to get factory replacement instead of “upgraded polyurethane” as the noise level rises with those compared to the factory rubber ones. I have a few videos showing the dismantle of the irs, but not the actual bushing changes (some require special tools). I’ll give you the link below so you see what it’s all about and let you decide if you want to remove the prices and take them to as shop for replacement (or at least know what’s behind the repair if you take it to a shop)
Thank you for the info and the great video ... I know a mechanic that works at a car dealership and does side jobs in his garage with a car lift. I have been watching and reading about the differences between rubber bushing vs polyurethane bushings. Still not sure which way I will go. Because the polyurethane will last a long time, I am thinking of going that way. I am hoping to enjoy this car for another 20 years and then pass it down to my son.
They do have SVT certificates you can purchase, but they will be from a Ford performance and no longer say SVT th-cam.com/video/EUe-VyDDLgM/w-d-xo.html
I've seen some of your videos on it! Really nice car I'm jealous but i will one day add a 00 Cobra R to go next to my 00 performance red GT convertible!
from what I understand these had a 3.27 gearing. But the 4.6 dohc v8 runs better with 3.90 to 4.33 gearing. Of course, the rear 8.8 independent suspension is a bitch to remove.
Yes. They really like the gears in the 4:1 range. Especially the dohc cars. I installed 4.10s in my mach 1 th-cam.com/play/PLIjr-uSYDZi5fnxxp6D9MO7_QlTzizaUf.html
It definitely needs the side scoops. I do like the GT hood scoop a lot better than the one it comes with. Camilo Pardo who designed the terminator spoke about how he was able to do things on the terminator that he wasn’t quite happy about how they turned out on the 99-01 Cobra
Sorry for being to the party. I have a question and hopefully you can answer? Other than the rear IRS and shaker scoop are the cobra and 03 mach 1 the same car? I forgot seat incerts and front bumper are different as well.
They are a similar layout with the 32V but the heads and cams are different as well. The transmission is the same for the 2001 cobra as the mach 1. Otherwise, pretty much yes
Could you do a video comparing the 01 Cobra with the 03-04 Mach 1. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like they're almost the same car other than the IRS on the cobra and the shaker hood on the Mach 1. Is that a fair statement or am I oversimplifying it?
They are pretty similar. They both have aluminum blocks, but the cobra for 99 and many of the 01 have the Teksid block which is a little better than the mach 1 WAP (Windsor assembly plant) aluminum block. The mach 1s with the 5 speed have the cobra forged crank, but the automatic Mach 1s have the 6 bolt cast crank. Not really a big deal unless you’re making a lot of power. The 5 speeds are the same except the mach 1 does have a different 5th gear ratio. The cobra irs for 99 is 28 spline so it’s not much of an improvement over the lighter solid rear in the mach 1. The mach 1 has 3:55 rear and gears which is better than the cobra 3.27s, which really make it feel sluggish. The automatic mach 1 has a lower redline for the transmission. The mach 1 has better revised heads, but the intake cams are a little better on the cobra. They really are pretty comparable
Break The Bricks Down I need to. I just met someone with the 99 cobra leather jacket given to those who had the “fix” needed. I’ll throw something together soon!
Danny Johnson’s Garage Oooh wow that’s really cool!! Can’t wait. There is a 99 cobra that I’m interested in at a used car dealership but it has 220,000 miles. Overall the car is really clean tho, just got the vin so I can do a carfax. Love your videos man!!!

Great video, there is not to much content on these years. I own a 1999 SVT Cobra and it had its fix by Ford in 2000. It’s been a great car but does not hold up to the Terminator.
what, other than the obvious aesthetics and the IRS, is the difference between the 01 Cobra and the 03/04 Mach1. I think they are basically the same car, with minor differences; as far as power goes, the Mach 1 was probably better.

@@dannyjohnsonsgarage thanks. Issue I'm having is everyone around me is over charging for the Terminator. Maybe I'll get lucky. Thanks for your reply. Have a good day.

@@gtemplesrt8 just so you know, a 01 cobra isn't turbo.
@@mkdzr72 yeah I know. I just got excited when I found one for sale and was about to jump on it and been hearing it's not as good as a 03
What's a fair price for these cobras ? I'm seeing in my area go for 13k and up .
It depends on condition and miles, but $13k is an Understandable price
Reupload?
Yeah, added info on brakes, svt honoring 2000 prices, etc
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage rewatched it 👍🏼 thanks for all the info you put out. I always thought the blue light guages were aftermarket like on a friends 99 Cobra but guess it came like that!
Oliver Garcia I like the green since I had a 01 GT- the car I’m trying to get back soon!
Oliver Garcia Not sure if you’ve seen the series or are following along th-cam.com/video/3o2qVHHK2X8/w-d-xo.html
So it's basically a 99 that had the recall issue fixed.
Yes, with some different exterior pieces
Mine didn’t have the dark headlights
It should have as they were the last built. Yours may have been swapped by someone
Danny Johnson ya your right I bought it with 20000. Great car just rebuilt motor and new tremor 6 speed. Great video
