Great how you made efforts to actually think about what was being presented vocally and visually. But really, Oh My God is most definitely about female love, infatuation and societal reactions/persecution of it. Soyeon and the rest of Idle tread on risky, untried paths of their own

@@bmc9154 cube has all new management with a foreign corporation ceo so I don’t think they are repeating past mistakes so much as trying to find the style that fits Lightsum the best. @bmc9154 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@cindih78 Personally, I think with Lightsum they are going down the same route as to what happened with CLC, start them off with a cute concept because we have a group sort of doing girl crush, then when that group doesn't exist under us we change their concept again. I agree it takes time to find a style that suits them best though but rn it looks like a repeat is happening.
A new management and CEO doesn't necessarily mean they won't repeat past mistakes of the old management, as I personally think was shown with the choice to remove Soojin entirely without an explanation to fans, as a similar thing happened to Hyuna. Granted things take time to change and massive drastic changes to a company can be ridiculously harmful, but it is clear to see they don't or are not trying to get any faith from the fans of their groups or communities around CUBE but rather just will prioritise as much monetary gain as possible over the people, which works but makes a company have a awful image and isn't good imo.
So far, I believe from what we have seen they are repeating the same mistakes over and over again, but we are not the idols or trainees under them or any kind of staff to see any changes happening, but from my pov it looks that way

    • @cindih78
      @cindih78 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@bmc9154 Hyuna violated her contract, that writing was on the wall when it happened. Hyuna’s dismissal was 100% her own fault, not anyone else’s. Soojin herself stated if it was proven she did what she was accused of she would leave and unfortunately Soojin wasn’t able to be proven guilty or innocent in a police investigation. No one knows if she left of her own volition or if Cube asked her to leave after the final results from the police investigation were concluded. However, as we have seen no trace of her since then, I am leaning towards her leaving voluntarily because she was tired of the crap netizens were throwing at her.
As for Lightsum, their first single was a cute concept but the first comeback was a teen crush concept. It is probably highly probable that they will use different concepts every comeback until either they find one that fits them well or they choose to continue changing their concept everytime for variety.

They are one of the biggest Kpop groups on the planet, and a big 4 company might have been more restrictive on their creativity. As for Soojin and the bullying scandal don't assume a big 4 company would have handled it differently. Don't forget there was a backlash against Soojin from fans because South Koreans throw hissy fits over bullying accusations. Keeping her in (G)I-DLE could have destroyed the entire group. Instead their popularity increased greatly. They have two of the most viewed Kpop videos of the year, and last month they ranked third of all girl groups on Spotify, behind Blackpink and Twice.

@@eugenarost7 Soojin was accused of bullying when she was in middle school, and she denied it. South Koreans go into a rage about bullying rumors and their first reaction is to attack the accused without proof. T-ARA probably endured the worst bullying scandal when they were accused of forcing a newer member out. South Korea turned against them, but thanks to fans in China, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam and other countries they miraculously survived five years of fan abuse. Any other group would have been gone. I am only speculating on this, but Cube Entertainment's firing of Soojin may have been done to prevent this. (G)I-DLE is Cube's most successful group, and losing them would be devastating to the company. Last year I argued with fans on Facebook who insisted (G)I-DLE had disbanded, and then later argued with fans who claimed the group couldn't survive without her. This is the biggest year for (G)I-DLE so I know better than to believe crazy Kpop fans. It is, however, a disgrace that she was punished for something that may or may not have happened when she was a kid.

Soyeon can indeed do it all, she's an immense talent. She does indeed often work with different producers, as is common, though there are some tracks where she is the sole credit. She is also often heavily involved in creating the concepts for I-DLE's comebacks. 'Lion' is another amazing track you need to check out. I also recommend some of Soyeon's solo work, 'Beam Beam' & 'Is This Bad B****** Number?' are highlights. If you liked the rockier stuff, Yuqi also has two 80s rock influenced solo tracks I recommend, "Giant' & 'Bonnie and Clyde'.
You were wondering about Soyeon's involvement in the songs...
Latata - Soyeon is credited with the Lyrics, Producer & Arrangement (beside Big Sancho for the latter two).
Hann - Credited with the Lyrics, Producer & Arrangement (beside Yummy Tone for the latter two).
OMG - Credited with the Lyrics, Producer & Arrangement (beside Big Sancho for the latter two).
Tomboy - Credited with the Lyrics, Producer & Arrangement (beside Pop Time and Jenci for the latter two).
Soyeon has also written for other artists. She wrote, produced and arranged CLC's only No 1 hit 'No', all of Namjoo's (Apink) solo debut 'Bird', she co-wrote lyrics and music for Hyoyeon's 'Dessert' and Lee Seo-bin's 'Eternal Sunshine'.

  • @AmadanMath

Yes, Soyeon co-produces the songs, most often with Big Sancho. There was a very insightful post on r/GIDLE about 2 years ago where the user k-m-lin summarised what he understood from the interview with Big Sancho about their workflow (if it is the interview I am thinking of, unfortunately I haven't seen it subbed anywhere). The name of the post is "Analysis on Collaboration Between Jeon Soyeon and Co-Producers" (I don't want to post a link because more often than not TH-cam eats links). Here's the main part: Soyeon does most of the creative side: concept, melody, reference samples, background vocal samples, composition supervision, lyrics, vocal arrangement, vocal coaching and song guide. Big Sancho is mostly on technical or logistics side: he selects samples and musicians, does audio mixing, mastering and FX, and finalises the composition. We know Soyeon also has input on video concepts, choreo... in short, yes, Soyeon can literally do everything.
    Everything... except eating vegetables.
EDIT: Speaking of vocal coaching... she stopped her members from attending vocal lessons. She saw all of them have very unique voices, and did not want that individuality coached out of them, making them sound like everyone else. So she directs them how to sing, but respects their each vocal colour. Also, when she makes the songs, she writes each part with a member already in mind, even going as far as to adapt the vocabulary to the pronunciation abilities of each members, given that half of the group is foreign. More than half, now T_T. This is part of why everyone sounds so amazing. It is the difference between an expensive brand suit, and a custom-fitted one. (G)I-DLE songs are custom-fitted.

    • @AmadanMath
      @AmadanMath 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Also, here's my write-up about what I understand about Oh My God; I hope it makes some sense.
As far as I can tell, the MV works on two levels. On one level it is deeply symbolic story of innocence, temptation and fall into depravity. Soojin has been confirmed to be a seductress demon, and the other girls her victims. She is bound by the purple straps, then gets free. Some resist her charm and remain pure, some fight her off but are tarnished in the struggle, some fall for her and fall hard. There's all this Christian imagery, the white of heaven and red of hell, the crosses, the apple, the Latin, the wine/blood, everything in the video works to support this storyline.
On another level, it seems to be a social commentary. The name of the album this song is on is I Trust, and Soyeon has said that it is about staying true to oneself, even under adversity. While the girls have never said so directly outside the lyrics, it seems to paint a picture of lesbian love, particularly in a restrictive, conservative society (such as South Korea). The chorus, in English, uses "she", and even in Korean parts (specifically Soyeon's rap verse) the female pronoun is used (which is not really used in natural Korean, except when you want to be absolutely clear on the gender, like in translations). The song also has an English version, which is much more explicit (though it wasn't written by Soyeon, but by the translator, so one can have doubts about how closely it follows her intention). The height of this storyline is in Soyeon's verse, I feel. People sometimes think that she is in a toxic relationship, and that she is trying to get away in order not to get hurt by the other person. I interpret it differently: what she is afraid of is the pressure of the society to conform. Her cry is basically "why could I not have fallen in love with someone I will not be judged over?" She tries to deny her feelings, but in the end accepts that this is who she is, this is what she feels, and she should trust herself over whatever anyone else thinks. Even if she ends up suffering, love is worth it. While it does appear it is about homosexuality, I believe it is actually about any kind of situation where societal pressure makes one deny one’s true self. And if it was actually about homosexuality (or, equally, feminism), they could not admit that outright - Korean industry has blacklisted artists for such things.
I also think that the title is just trolling Nevies. Because almost everyone ends up saying "Oh my god!" when they see it. And then they'll laugh self-consciously. Just how transparent are we, to Soyeon? :) Both this and Lion (that you haven't seen yet) are film-making masterpieces, really: pure art.
Still, my number one is Put It Straight (Nightmare version) performance on Queendom. The best stage of anything I have ever seen so far, ever. It is a rearrangement of a B-side, but it changed drastically; if you should ever check it out, I strongly suggest watching a lyrics video of the original song (not Nightmare version) beforehand - it will make you appreciate Soyeon’s genius that much more.

Some things to know before going deep into (G)I-DLE
Soyeon created Latata because CUBE Entertainment couldn't give them a debut song, she was 19 yo at that time (almost 20) but it was just the starting of our journey !
She then created and (co)produced almost every single song, every song used as a main song is Soyeon's creation
As for today, counting their next comeback (I Never Die), there is only one song where Soyeon didn't took part in any kind of way and it's Polaroid created and (co)produced by Yuqi
Soyeon is always evolved at least in the lyrics because she can't rap a line/verse that she didn't herself wrote
    - Because she think rappers should write their stuff
    - And also because she want to express her feeling though her writting
All of (G)I-DLE members have somehow unique voices, Soyeon wasn't ok with the other members voice coaches because they wanted them to be generic for the K-POP industry (if I understood correctly), but she thought that their atypical voices would be the group' strength.
Nowaday we have a producer line, Soyeon (ofc), Minnie and then Yuqi
Minnie wanted to produce song as well, so she come out with Blow your mind she created alongside with Soyeon, she then created other song (Moon,Dahlia etc...)
Yuqi then join in the producer line too, with the co-created/produced (alongside Minnie) song "I'm the Trend" which is seen as Nevies anthem
We now have 3 capable producer, that can fire in the future and we saw it threw "I never die"
Yuqi did her solo debut on 2021 with "Giant" and "Bonnie and Clyde", she also used to be in "Learn Way: Season 1" also known as "Learn Wave" during 2020
Her solo debut show how deep and attractful her voice is, I highly recommend listening to it
Minnie started her actress career with "So not worth it" in 2021 aswell which is a Netflix serie
She also had a lot of model shoot during this year
Unfortunetly Soojin got caught in a bully affair being accused by an actress for this which lead her to not being active from February 2021 to August 2021, then leaving (G)I-DLE but staying with Cube from "August 2021"
After bringing the police to the table and juridic case, it was difficult to prove whether the actress lied or not or whether Soojin was a bully or not seens the event occured 10-12 years ago... Which lead to Cube breaking up her contract few days ago
(I will not take position on this, I'm only LARGELY summarizing)
"Hwaa" was released January 11 2021 and seens that date we didn't had comeback (I don't count "Last dance" since it's a promotional song for "Universe") and every member took a break and focused more on solo stuff
I will not come across everything they have done during 2021/early 2022 but it's mind blowing
But they prepared for this comeback and I hope everyone will show them support and love for all the harsh time they've been threw during 2021 (and seens there debut)
Fellow nevies just remember that opening fan war isn't necessarily, (G)I-DLE was always seen as black swan but in the end they always come up with good stuff
We know what they are made of, and we just need to put our hands and mind to support them, our Queens !
Thanks for your reaction and I hope you will support them they deserve it !

OH MY GOODNESS YES YES YES!!! I clicked so fast when I saw the notification, I am so glad that you finally reacted to (G) I-DLE they are a PHENOMENAL Group just Amazing and you got pretty much everyone correct you didn't say much about Miyeon or Shuhua at the beginning because I'm guessing you didn't know much about them! And also let me just say I LOVED all of these songs but Oh My God is my favorite for many reasons and it is an LGBT Anthem when you were talking about it I was like I mean you're kind of right but wrong and then HANN, Latata, and TOMBOY are just WOW Anyways here are the members to help you a little bit!
Miyeon: Main Vocalist, and Visual (Pronounced as ME-YEON) In Latata you fell in love with her voice on the bridge, in HANN she was the one that you were talking about her Visuals with the contacts, in Oh My God she was the one sitting on the throne eitht he jewels on her face, and in TOMBOY she was the one in the hallway walking with the suitcase and the one on the car! And even though she is the Oldest she is one of the main Crackheads!
Minnie: Main Vocalist (You got her name right, it's not that difficult I at least don't think so) In Latata she was the one who you thought her voice was very unique and soft, in HANN she was the one that pointed that "gun"/projector thing at her head, in Oh My God she was the one at the beginning and at the end of the Music Video, and in TOMBOY she was the one at the beginning (She almost always has bangs!) Let's just say she is absolutely ADORABLE!
Soojin: Main Dancer, Vocalist, and Rapper (You got her name right) In Latata she was the one in the gun skirt, in HANN she was the red hair, and in Oh My God she was the one with the blonde hair (Sadly she wasn't in TOMBOY, stupid CUBE!) She is also the only one who has a braincell in the Group (and even though she doesn't show it she absolutely ADORES Shuhua and it is the cutest thing ever, She is also a Dancing Queen!)
Soyeon: Leader, Main Rapper, Vocalist, and Center (Yes you got her name correct) In Latata she was the Rapper she also had blonde hair, in HANN she was the one who started the song with the scorpion, in Oh My God she was the one with the short black hair, and in TOMBOY she was the one that was biting And licking her lips that took Yuqi's sucker! And even though she seems like she can kill you in two seconds she is actually a sweetheart very ADORABLE!
Yuqi: Lead Dancer, Vocalist, Rapper, and Face of the Group (Pronounced usually as U-GI or U-KI there are other ways as well but those are the main ones) In Latata she was the one on the couch, in HANN she was the one with the bangs this time, in Oh My God she was the one walking in the hallway and who had the makeup on, and in TOMBOY she had pink hair. She is also the cutest member and her Voice as you can tell is VERY deep one of the deepest in K - Pop!
Shuhua: Vocalist, Visual, and Maknae (Pronounced as SHU like shoe and then HUA it is prononced as it's spelled!) In Latata she didn't get many lines and she had the white dog, in HANN she was the one dancing near the end, in Oh My God she was the one in the big white dress, and in TOMBOY she was the one in the theatre. All I got to say is that she is probably the Main crackhead and DO NOT take Soojin from her she will hurt you! 🤣😂
I hope that this helps you out a little bit more you should definitely check out a guide of them as well, also I am pretty sure in HANN Minnie was the one who was whistling! You don’t know that Cube kicked her out. It says her contract was terminated, not who terminated the contract. In order for a contract to be terminated without cause (cause would be a breach of contract like Hyuna & Dawn), both parties must agree to the termination. It said the same thing for Sorn when her contract actually expired and she didn’t renew her contract. Soojin was the one who chose to leave idle to keep them from bad publicity. It is entirely possible that Soojin is just tired of the industry because of all the sh*t she has been dealt by netizens and SK general public…god knows, I would have been done long before her.

Tomboy is so good and has a huge message to the listener, especially in the uncensored one. A lot of ppl have contemplated the lyrics of Tomboy, and thought that especially Soyeons rap was crap. But a lot of nevies(fandom) have noticed that the lyrics are making a statement about Soojin getting kicked out of the group and the kpop industry and it's and South-Koreas crappy conservative standards.
Soojin was the 6th member, who sadly got kicked out of the group by their company after she had multiple scandals. A bullying scandal came first, where she was accused of being a bully in middle and high school, torturing her fellow classmates. It was proven false, one of the alleged victim's sister(who made a post accusing Soojin) was found to be a misunderstanding. Soojin wasn't the only idol to have a bullying scandal in early 2021, as multiple idols were accused, most being fake.
Then there were scandals about her smoking, drinking, and having sex when she was still underage. In Tomboys uncensored rap, Soeyen sings "sex on whiskey" and "without cigarettes" which correlate straight to Soojins scandals. Soojin did admit to smoking and drinking when underaged, and in the released statement she talked about how she isn't proud of it.
The whole lyrics also attack the industry. Female idols are supposed to be really conservative: cute and charming, well behaved, no smoking, no drinking, no love life with their life only dedicated to pleasing the fans, not too different, cant show too much or too little skin, no opinions of their own, take orders from others, look like a barbie doll, no tattoos, not even crushes or finding other people attractive, obviously no LGBTQ unless its fan service. The whole song is basically just a fuck u to the industry and its standards for female idols. Soyeon raps "id rather film a TikTok" which pretty clearly is put there to show that this is a different generation, and connected with the song, it's pretty clearly saying that "fuck u and your standards, this is a different generation".
Just to update on Soojin: she was kicked out of the group, and the last knowledge of what we have of her is that she was in her grandmas' house in early 2021 after the scandals broke online After that she hasn't commented or even shown up in public.

You totally have to listen to Lion, hwaa, senorita, and their other title tracks. Yes Oh My God in my mind (unconfirmed, homophobia is huge in Korea) is about the forbidden love of a woman, who is so tempting they would go to hell for her. And yes soyeon is INCREDIBLE and is pretty much acknowledged as the best female idol rapper right now. She's so incredibly talented. GIdle as a group breaks so many stereotypes and really is musically more adventurous than a lot of kpop groups imo
Finally, yuqi is my bias too, I love her voice so much and I think she is a little underappreciated.

The big thing you missed in Oh My God is the influence of temptation. Soyeon says it in her verses (like "Oh god, how could you put me into this temptation, is it a call from hell?" Also saying she cant stop and if its a sin she will pay the piper.) Along with other bits in the vid.(The apple and the Her) Soojin is the temptress (her), trying to get the other girls to leave the pure white goodness. I believe that Miyeon and Shuhua dont fall for temptation since we never see them leave the pure white setting and outfit. Soyeon and Yuqi fall and lose to the darkness. Minnie is unknown as it ends with the darkness trying to consume her. It is also heavily suggested (and most agree) to be targeted to homosexuality and LGBTQ+. Korea is still conservative so it is hard to outright say much but Soyeon had spoken up in support.
I also really suggest Lion and Dumdi Dumdi! Great vids, you got all the names I saw. :)
Also Soyeon is arguably atleast one of the top 5 BEST female rappers and no one can change my mind. I always think of her.

Yuqi said "just me, I-dle" not idol. Recently, idle have started not using the (g) in their name, so she wasn't referring to the idol industry. I really think Soyeon's verse in TomBoy is about Soojin in support of her: 'I love to dance' (she was main dancer), 'I love my friends' (obv), 'swear without sigs' (regarding the controversy). Soojin didn't fit the standards society set upon her when she was only just in middle school. 'I never die' like you mentioned ( I think ) is that IDLE since they first debuted have always been targeted by other fandoms or just knets because they do things differently so I saw it as IDLE will never die no matter how hard people try. They will continue to break convention and do things their own way.

This is what it is about one of the five total tracks on the release written and composed by Soyeon, "Oh My God" is a dark, trap-infused song with lyrics that riff on contrasts - light and dark, purity and sin - to communicate the the idea that true divinity comes from knowing and trusting yourself.

Please stop spreading misinformation…until you have a statement from Soojin herself or a party involved in the contract termination, you don’t know who requested it or what exactly happened. I do know that Soojin herself said that she would leave the industry if it was proven that she bullied someone in school like the accusations stated. Unfortunately, right now, there has been no evidence to acquit her and SK general public is still pretty harsh toward her (from my understanding).

someone said that the song "Oh My God" is about homosexuality... a lil' bit embarassing because it's actually not. some fans just want to think that way but
    some info:
The song was conceptualized around the theme of 'self-trust' when encountering reality and experiencing feelings of rejection, confusion, recognition, and dignity. It is an urban hip hop track in which the stark differences in rhythm that correspond to the atmospheric changes within the song stand out. The fantasy-like mood and bold production are led by a vintage piano sound and strong 808 bass.
The specific lyrics "Oh my god / she took me to the sky / Oh my god / she showed me all the stars" sparked listeners questioning as to whom is being referred to. Soyeon responded that the imagery and lyrics represent love in many forms, and that she will leave it to the listener to interpret it their own way.
( "I didn't want to limit that 'she' to a certain being or a certain definition, so it's open to anything. I believe that all kinds of love are valuable and must be respected. That's why I don't want to limit 'she' to something specific."
    - Soyeon talking about using 'She' in "Oh My God". )
The song is written in third person because it symbolises the detachment of ones improved present self from their lackluster past self to show that they are now a better person.
THANK U SO MUCH FOR YOUR REACTION! UWU

    • @mq6995
      @mq6995 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

Many people interpreted it as being about homosexuality which makes sense when you look at the lyrics of all three versions of the song. In the English version there’s a line in the rap that literally says “you may be poison but you sure as hell taste like honey”. Then in the pre chorus it says “just burn me with your loving, I can’t control this desire”. It’s not embarrassing that people interpret music in different ways

    • @chimcci
      @chimcci 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@mq6995 oh no, i didn't mean that it's embarassing to interpret music in different ways, not at all! it's actually what music is about in general, right? all people feel different about the same type of music, it's obvious~
i just meant that it's not the only way to explain the lyrics (and the person who said that it's about homosexuality didn't say anything at all so--) and wanted to share what group itself said about it, that's all :>

Love this. Hopefully you check out more of their songs and albums. Their entire I burn album is one of my favourite kpop releases ever and this new one is really great as well. I think why I like Idle so much is their uniqueness, especially in concepts and vocal tones. If you were to hear Soyeon, Yuqi or Minnie on an unknown song on the radio, you'd instantly know it was them. Soyeon knows exactly how to use them, when you said Oh my God felt crafted for their auras it is so true, Soyeon is super good at showing their strengths. Also secondly, Soyeon does not shy away from talking about controversial stuff in their songs. I am not sure if you know but Idols get bashed for showing any type of support for feminism at all (for example, Irene from RV read a feminist book and Korean fans were going ballistic and burning merch) so this type of song is kind of risky. As was Oh My God with the references the struggles of people who have same sex attraction in a society that highly condemns it. It's always super exciting seeing what they will come up with next because they aren't afraid of doing something "shocking"

You should react to Dumdi Dumdi, it’s my favorite Gidle title track ! A lot of people seem to dislike it and not a lot have reacted to it, but it’s a BOP.

In Soyeon's rap verse,"Swear without cigarettes" is a reference to Soojin about one of the accusations the verse starts with "I like dance" Soojin was the main dancer

You should definitely react to their latest album. I already know that you'll love it. Two of the members, Minnie and Yuqi also participated in the composition and production of their latest album, just like last time. If you love self made and versatile groups, you're in for a ride with Idle! 💜
    Edit:
If you want to get to know them more, I recommend reacting to a guide.
    I recommend this one:

But if you're down for a much more detailed and longer guide, then I recommend this one:
    th-cam.com/video/V65zpqbl19E/w-d-xo.html
Thank you much for this! You're an underrated reactor. I love how you pay attention to a lot of things like lyrics, production of the song, people behind the production, etc. Subscribed!

17:20 its weird that you never heard about soyeon, cause when the people talk about female rappers or rappers in general, soyeon is always among the named.
