  • Was doing a product review of sorts for the wife, and our CornerAddiction.com store the other day, and thought to myself that I had not done a "how-to" video series on chain maintenance, or an oil change since I got the 2003 Honda VFR.
I suck royally at narrative or instructional vids, and do much better on action ones, but thought that I would try my hand at it / them, and allow y'all to snicker away at me :)

Nice setup on the VFR! I have a 2002, fantastic bike, it’s been all over the country.

Way less room for error compare to conventional dual swingarm bikes..I was apprehensive that it would be difficult but it is very easy. I can see how a VFR can is a sport tourer. Proud owner of a 98 vfr. Ohlins supsension is an awesome upgrade. Bike handles great despite weight and stock supsension. Sometime within the next year I'll invest in a suspension upgrades

Many years ago my old man taught me to apply chain lube turning the wheel by hand let it sit for a minute or 2 and then again by hand with a clean rag grip the chain and slowly turn the wheel wiping the excess off, never had an issue with splatter all over the wheel, just a thought

Thanks for your vid. I have a butthole too so here is my opinion. The chain lube does one job only - it stops the chain from rusting. For that reason I've been using chainsaw chain-oil to protect my gen. 5, VFRs chain. The reason is that I don't care about its lubricating qualities, I use it because it is sticky and will stay on for longer. I apply it with an old toothbrush.

After I lube my chain I wipe off the excess oil with a dry cloth. Surface oil only collects dirt. That's just me, I like not having chain oil fling onto my rear tire.

per the manual for a 2003 the chain slack should be between 25mm-35mm or 1" - 1 3/8" same as on my 2014. also says to check on the side stand. i dig the videos man not enough vfr love or representation on the tube

Hey mate. Thanks for this one. I had a crash last month.. I slid off and now after that, my chain is noisy ... can it be that something moved do to the crash and loose the chain little bit ? I noticed my shift pedal is little bit bent after fall.. so .. what you think on this one ? To try to tighten the chain ? New sprockets and chain I replaced last year.

What kinds of front foot ankle sets are those (black, where your feet sit)? I’ve looked all over for them for the 6th gen VFR800 and can’t find any for it! Nice video!

Never use WD40 on a motorcycle chain. It ruins the O rings.

Will agree to disagree. Been using it for over three decades and never seen it ruin o rings.

Any kind of rubber, usually makes it swell.

Kerosene is supposedly the best for cleaning.

      WD40 works... Kerosene works better

I see you got an ohlins shock, just got a 07 vfr and interested to upgrade the suspension.
Would you know what ohlins shock fits?
    Thanks

Alas, I do not. I would recommend calling Ohlins directly

Saw this in a VFR forum thread. Should answer your question - www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-RC-30-VFR-750-800-Honda-Chain-Hub-Adjuster-Spanner-Tool-/303372187384?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0
