I remember that whole thing with bert and ernie. I loved it when sesame street just released a statement saying, 'they're puppets. They don't have sexual orientations.' People always getting bent out of shape for nothing
Sesame Street has been one of my favorite shows since the 90's. Even though I am 29 years old, Sesame Street will always brighten my day and bring me endless joy
the sooty show was canceled in 1992 and brought back in 2001, that's not continually running, it was gone for 9 years. pay attention to what people say and you might avoid looking stupid again. also the sooty show started in 1968, not 1948, so you're also a liar about that.
Neon Angel even if that was true ( which it's not) Sesame Street (the actual Sesame Street, not Television for Preschool Children which turned into Sesame Street without being taken off the air) has been on the air since 1969, one year after the sooty show started, and by your own admissions the sooty show has been off the air for 3 years, meaning that Sesame street (with it's current name alone) has at least 2 MORE years than the sooty show. I check IMDB for my facts, what kind of bullshit, unreliable site (or person) is your source?
Neon Angel any one can put a date on something posted on youtube, the fact that you think otherwise proves that you are far too young to be on the computer without parental supervision.
Neon Angel i'm not wrong, saying that is just your defense for not having any reliable sources, imdb has every episode that has ever aired for every show in the world (and even some episodes that didn't), as well as every movie ever made, you're just upset that I know where to look for the right answers to prove you wrong. and googling something doesn't make it true, anyone can make a website that says something, you need to prove the accuracy of the information. and telling someone to "google it" is not what someone in their 30's does, because they understand that just because there's a website that says it doesn't mean it's true. so you lied about your age. you're still a teenager, because "google it' is an immature teenager's response.
Neon Angel you have listed information, without the source and tried to use youtube channels as references, you have nothing, you jut keep coming up with things, you can't stand being wrong, not to mention if sooty was any good it would be more widely known, most people in the world have never heard of it, but most of the world knows about Doctor Who, and Sesame Street, and even M*A*S*H, if the show runs for more than a decade people find out about it. and just to let you know, you listed 5 shows with the same characters, that's not the same show (so even if that information somehow became true,)in your futile attempt to be right you have proved yourself wrong. Sesame Street has been on the air and never been cancelled or changed it's name since 1969, you really need to learn how to pay attention (to what you read and say) if you don't want to be seen as stupid anymore.
You're absolutely right. I'm a big fan of vintage S.S. (70s & 80s). I just watched the very first episode and Big Bird was pretty spooky. Today's S.S. is awful. Might as well call it the Elmo Show.
When Elmo came around on Sesame Street he was a pretty good character then later on he got his own show but he could have just been on his own show instead of S.S and now it seems like Elmo is the star of the show and the other characters are just completely forgotten.
I was just youtubing old Sesame street songs that i remember from childhood. One fine face Monster in the mirror Ladybug picnic Alligator king 8 balls of fur I don't want to live on the moon Put down the ducky Mary had a bicycle and Elmo's song (My favorite) I can't wait to have children and raise them on the great shows i was raised on
Kayla Faith My childhood Sesame Street songs were Ernie and Elmo’s version of “Sing After Me”, “Together We Make Music” by Garth Brooks, Herry Monster and the cowboy hat wearing monsters, “Furry Happy Monsters” by R.E.M., Herry’s version of “Big Round Nose”, “Monster Lullaby” by Herry and Rosita, “My Outer Space Friend” by Telly, Elmo and the Backstreet Boys’ version of “One Small Voice” and Aaron and Nick Carter’s version of “Loud and Soft” with Elmo and the Two Headed Monster
Sesame Street is what helped me learn to read by the time I went to preschool. It was a staple throughout my childhood. I learned so, so much from this show! I saw many celebrities for the first time here. SS has taken me through a gamut of emotions, from fear to sadness to side splitting laughter. I love you Sesame Street.
Sesame Street was tried and true in that every character had his or her own place. As Elmo became popular they put him front and center, hogging the whole show. I don't think Jim Henson would have allowed that. I believe he would have wanted all of his creations to shine.
I remember watching sesame street when I was 3. I did not watch it often because I preferred Nick jr. show lol. I still liked it though and I had sesame street plushies. My favorite intro was the early 2010s version because that was the one I grew up with.
I love Sesame Street and it's my favorite childhood show it gives me learning and counting activities with some celebrities around the world and so does in the 1960s! My favorite DVD is Let's eat funny foods songs and it gives me a lot of energy to work out and eat nicely I remembered that at grandma's house.
Certain Muppets, primarily Big Bird and Oscar, appeared out on the street interacting with the human cast from episode one on. Combining the reality and fantasy elements was always a part of the show.
Once it actually aired to everyone. In the test runs and pilots, they didn't interact together. But once it was airing regularly, then, yes, they were interacting together.
I watched Sesame Street til I was like 12 lol I love the few reruns HBO has :) I'd like to say I'm surprised some states banned the show due to non white actors-news flash, other human beings do exist. Sesame Street ALWAYS addressed issues in a fantastic way for kids to learn and grow and hopefully develop some empathy for others.
R.I.P. Mr. Hopper. One of favorite characters on the show back in its early days and R.I.P Cookie Monster... sadly they could not make a new muppet instead transforming him into the Veggie Monster :(
I think sesame streets worst year was season 46. The changed the voice actor for Elmo, plus he was ALWAYS in EVERY episode. Other characters were rarely seen in a single episode. Elmo's world got worse. And they replayed the same episodes over and over and over again. We need Jim Henson back on the show. Even though he died.
I remember when Mr. Hooper died, it was all over the news and the Sesame Street episode sad a goodbye to him. Sad day to be a kid. I also remember when The Wicked Witch of the West (Wizard of Oz) actress visited. That one only broadcasted once.
I learned a lot from this show. It first aired the year I was born, and I think it’s amazing that it’s still going strong. The muppet characters are and always will seem very real to me. Another AMAZING production that taught me a lot and will always hold a special place in my heart is Saturday Morning’s School House Rock.!! Totally BrilliIant ,and I remember them like it was yesterday and not a half century ago,
Yes! Sesame Street and The Electric Company taught me how to count and read, respectively, but also, Schoolhouse Rock taught me a lot as well. I still sing those songs today!
I love Sesame Street since the 80s and 90s, I haven't watched it maybe since 2002 or 2005. I've watched specials in the 2000s. I'll buy DVDs from the first season to the current one.

they didn't, but it became a big to do with lots of people because he was eating healthier things so people started calling him the veggie monster. To counteract this they even made a segment on youtube talking about he was still the cookier monster, and made an entire episode where a media reporter was spreading around that he was the veggie monster.

Haha, when I was a toddler Sesame Street was one of the few shows my dad would let me watch in his company. Muppets, Sesame Street, Lambchop, and Mr. Rogers.
I grew up watching barney more but in the summer my grandma would watch me because my parents had work. She lived in a ranch so everyday I would be driven there around 7-8 and her t.v programs were just novelas and I had no idea how to speak spanish, but other than novelas it was just talk shows like TODAY, but there was PBS kids and thats all I would watch and I remember just waiting for elmos world to show up until I was 10, and whenever they did the number and letter of the day I would treat it like the lottery with my cousins all of us hoping the letter and number would be the first letter of our name and our age. Some people would say there most favorite memories was something crazy that happened in there life, but I'm pretty sure my most favorite memories was just watching sesame street at a ranch with all my cousins and little brother.

You forgot to mention the famous German version, where they made own stories wih popular German actors and they also invented some own character, like a bear named Samson instead of Bibo the bird. The short stories with just the puppets were simply taken from the original US version and were just dubbed, so characters like Ernie & Bert, Elmo, Grover (Grobi in the German version), Kermit the Frog and the Count, got also popular in Germany. At the beginning they tried to change the original educational parts just a bit, to fit to the German language, but later they also produced own, which fitted more to the German culture. Later German singers and comedians made some scenes for the show, where they interact with puppets, in a simlar way like the american stars do. Sorry for my bad English, I hope I explained everything understandable.

Yeah
Bert reminds me of Squidward idk why.
Think that he may have been the inspiration for Squidward?
They both have big noses, nasally voices, and grumpy attitudes
Be quiet
Ernie reminds me of Kermie
Well, Jim Henson did voice both of them.
The Veggie Monster thing was just an untrue rumor. Cookie Monster himself even stated "Cookie Monster is Cookie Monster not Veggie Monster,"
Yes I remember he sang a song about it lol
They had a episode based on that rumor
Yeah
one of my most favorite shows growing up. i was just happy as hell when cookie monster or big bird came on the tv.
I still remember the episode where Big Bird learns about death (Mr. Hooper)...that was a defining moment...
TheHavataru16 That one’s still the most talked about episode, still to today!!!
Some things get better with age. Sesame Street is one of them :)

I Can't believe what Big Bird used to look like. Creepy!

There is no comparison; Frank Oz is the master. Miss Piggy isn't Miss Piggy herself anymore; personality or voice.
Sesame Street is going to be 50 this November, and it’s been getting cooler.
