    Loved this camera, it slid down mountains with me 😀 very sad when the shutter system broke and the repair didn't work (I bet that hint to release the shutter way back when would have been helpful). Thanks for the memories!

      Thank you! These were decidedly well made, one of the best Canon cameras from a build quality perspective.

    David, great information and great presentation. I kind of stumbled on on your site, and impressed. I know that this i now a vintage camera, I've had mine since I was in Viet Nam, 1968. Have always wondered did Canon ever make a speed winder for this model? or and body else for that matter?. Thank you for sharing you expertise.

      Thank you, Al! IIRC, there was no motor drive for these. I don't think Canon released their first motor drive until the original F-1.

    Great vido thank you! I found this camera in my drawer from years ago. It seems like everything works except the mirror does not automatically drop back down until the film is advanced. Is there a way to clean or get the automatic drop down function to work again?

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! The mirror thing is a pretty common issue and has to do with either mis-aligned gear, weak springs, or thick lubricating grease. That can be fixed but usually requires a professional overhaul.

    So where should my stop down lever be when I don't have a battery? Does it matter then?

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@lankinwelder4328 there's no connection between the stop-down lever and the battery, so it won't matter. However, you should open it before taking a photo.

    What kind of batteries needs this camera?

    Thank you so much for your informative video!! I have a question, I’m sorry if it sounds silly (I’m new to the world of film cameras lol). But is there anyway to turn it off?

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you and no need. The battery only powers the light meter and it will last for about a year.

    Hey so I found one at a yard sale for 5 dollars, but looks like it needs to work, do you know of a place I can get it repaired?
    Thanks

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  ปีที่แล้ว

      I might run that past the Photrio camera forums. Someone there will know.

    What is the maximum number of exposures per film recommended.? I have a problem that after about 20 exposures it is harder to pull the film forward and starts to destroy the holes in the film. Is this normal? Or is there something I can do?

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is not normal. 36-exposure rolls should advance fully with no issues. My best idea is to double-check how you're losing the film and make sure it goes on straight. If it does, buy an old and expired roll and just run it through until there's an issue. Then open the back and see what's happening. The film on the back of the camera, and if it's jammed, etc., might indicate if there's something wrong with the camera.

    Hi David! Thanks for the informational video. What is the leader index mark near the quick load takeup spool, and what does it do?

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! That's where you rest the film to load it. Check out video 2 for a demonstration of that.

    I just thrifted this camera and the mirror is dirty, how do you suggest I clean/restore it? Shutter etc works fine

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice find! The best thing that you can do is get some lens cleaning tissue and fluid (specifically camera lens cleaning) and then bundle up a tissue like a feather duster. Spray it with lens cleaning fluid and wipe the mirror clean. Then do the same with a second lens tissue that's dry and remove any remaining fluid from the mirror.

    How much should I be willing to pay for this camera? Thanks for the video!!! very helpful

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Prices fluctuate, so I'd check eBay and compare cameras in a similar cosmetic and functional condition to what you want to figure out the best price.

    I accidentally took off the lens and I shot without the lens properly on now I cant take pictures? The sliver flat thing went up it wont go down I stopped touching it because i didnt want to damage it? I dont know what do ???

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should behave correctly with or without a lens, so taking the lens off didn't cause your problem. Try advancing the film, setting the camera to the fastest shutter speed and trying again. It's common in cameras of this age and design for the mirror to not automatically return after slow shutter speeds. That can be fixed but it needs a professional repair.

      @@DavidHancock okay I didnt have film in it while I was cleaning and learning how to use it but I will go buy some film soon and try what u said I hope I dont have to go find a professional fix because I dont have much to my name I hopefully can fix with what u said! Also it doesn't have a battery maybe that will help if I find a battery?

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KyattinoRi I'd wait on the film until it's working. Mirror issues can sometimes hint at shutter timing issues, something that a repairman would fix at the same time. For the battery, it only powers the meter and won't do anything for the camera's mechanical operation.
