    Great video Jim! Nice to see you getting a bit of sunshine in that frozen wasteland! Can't wait to see the images that you got with this Canon camera, I have no doubt that they will be fantastic! Good luck with the contest too! Hope you and Michelle are doing well, stay safe up there!

      Thanks Paul. It’s warmed up (relatively speaking) and almost all our snow is melted. I’m eager to see the images too! I’ll be trying out that 55mm f/1.2 lens on my Fujifilm camera soon.
      You guys take care too!

    Good luck with the competition and the more I see and listen to your films, the more I'm tempted to get my Olympus OM10 back out ! Look forward to seeing the final images too James.

      Hi Andrew. The Olympus OM cameras had such great ergonomics. Now that I’m playing with a few different 35mm cameras again, I’m really appreciating how well they were engineered.
      Get the OM10 out and dust it off. It’s similar to continuing a conversation with a dear old friend at the neighborhood pub. 🍻

    I never think to bring ND filters with me, but they can definitely be useful in situations like this. Looking forward to seeing your roll.

    • @VintageInsightPhotography
      @VintageInsightPhotography  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah. When I was out, I suddenly remembered I had them with me. ND filters are not natural for me to think about. In the days of film, it was the other way around. We were always looking for ways to INCREASE not decrease the amount of light entering the camera.
      Thanks. I’m really looking forward to seeing the images also!

    I'd love to dig a bit deeper into film photography. At the moment though, I've got so much to get through with digital and film just seems like a massive thing to tackle. One day though. Interesting video as ever Jim - looking forward to seeing the results.

      It's not that difficult... much more organic than digital. Whilst I'm having a ball shooting film, I still prefer using a modern digital camera.
      Thanks for the watch and comment!

    Great video James, between your videos and The Old Camera Guy I'm looking forward to trying out some of my old film camera again. It's been a while since they've been out, I had hair the last time they were used. Good luck with the contest.

      Thanks, Andrew. Shooting film is like hanging out with an old friend you haven’t seen in years. I have a belief that film photographers can easily transition to digital, but it’s tough the other way around.
      I’m really anxious to see the images I captured. Probably still four weeks before I get to see them!

      It’s been a while since I’ve had hair - That’s why I wear a hat haha. Hope you get a chance to fire up one of your old film cameras Andrew.

      @@theoldcameraguy I'm waiting until I get out of this lockdown Dave before I get the film cameras out.

    No Hanky Panky!!! That's a shame haha. I'm really enjoying your film videos James, but I think this one was one of my faves. Really well presented. Looking forward to seeing some images - I hope you'll share a link not just in this, but in a future video, as I would definitely like to see them.

      Yeah! A little Tommy James vibe!
      Thanks, Dave. That really means a lot to me. Definitely putting the images on display here.

    I used this camera for awhile before I upgraded to a Canon AE-1. Had to buy a cold shoe light meter for the time I used it but otherwise a really solid camera. FL lenses are extremely cheap

    • @VintageInsightPhotography
      @VintageInsightPhotography  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Solid is an understatement. This thing is an absolute tank! I bought this camera for the lens, but it was a joy to shoot with.
      Thanks for watching - and the comment!

    What happened at the 5:13 mark? You were not in focus on the close-up shot at the river.
    and yeah.... I cut my teeth on film (Pentax K1000), but never really took any classes. Just point the camera at something, check the internal meter to make sure it was within limits, focus, and shoot. When I got my first digital SLR (Canon 10D), I actually started to learn about aperture, depth of field, exposure, and the rest.
    I will not win any photo competitions or make millions on taking pictures, but I have fun doing it.
    I am interested when the photos come back to see how those turned out.

      Yep. The autofocus didn’t! 🤦🏻‍♂️
      Thanks for watching, Curt. It’s really appreciated. I’m anxious to see the photos too!

    Just found one of these for $10 with a 50mm 1.4

    Lovely video. It seems almost politically incorrect to say anything negative about Pentax, although i have had almost nothing but trouble with them myself.

      The K1000 was almost indestructible- a great camera... but I never took to it. For 35mm, my first love was the Olympus OM system. They still have a fond place in my heart.
      Thanks for watching. 😁
