    Kenny died of cancer a year or two ago. He fought it for some time, but lost the battle in the end. He is sorely missed in our community of air gun enthusiasts. We exchanged pellets, laughs and viewpoints over the course of time. RIP Kenny. That said, I have both calibers of this gun-.22 & .177- and will be doing this trigger mod. Both rifles, in real-world numbers, have the same power range as the Hatsan Striker 1000 (x,s) rifles. I have that one too. So the power of the Striker 1000 in a rifle about 1.5lbs lighter! Good looking wood-n-steel sporters too.

    OK I bought this rifle from Wal-mart for $85 and got a can of Gamo Rocket 9.6 grain pellets put a 3-12x40 AO scope on it fixed the trigger with a 5x8x2.5 bearing and it is a very accurate rifle thank you for very informative videos on how to fix these Crossmans to be great rifles

    Hi There Again Kenny,
    As you can see, it's been two years now since we last spoke and my .177 Crosman Optimus is still going strong, even with your recommended trigger fix!
    My rifle has had its third spring already, which has nothing to do with the quality but rather quantity of rounds shot with it! In all, I must have put at least 12000 (twelve thousand) rounds through the barrel because I buy two tins of 500 pellets each month AND I have a Crosman 357 Magnum pistol too, which I bought soon afterwards. All Your Fault!!!
    When replacing the spring I also polished up the piston and cylinder to a near mirror finish and treated them with silicon grease. Similarly, I polished the trigger sheer and any other friction surfaces with my Dremel and gave them the same treatment with silicon grease.
    Right now, any pellet less than 7 grain will still produce a crack making it too noisy for back yard shooting, so I use H&N's Rabbit Magnum pellets which for some strange reason do very well in both my rifle and pistol.
    In short, my "cheap" Crosman has over time become a very refined rifle (as far as springer's go) and even the wooden stock has become glossy from use - with a somewhat darker color hue too. At twenty meters I am able to place five shots within a 1/4 inch bull which defy's some You Tuber's comments' about these rifles - and springer's in general.
    You are welcome to use this comment to help support your quest, which for me is always enjoyable.
    Regards,
    "Out Of Africa"

      You might want to try throwing a Nitro Piston in it next time. It should last 3 to 4 times longer than a metal spring.

      I like your idea but I would prefer to keep it "original". However, I may very well consider buying a new .22 Crosman Nitro Piston.
      Have a great weekend and good luck with the future elections..

    I have owned this rifle .22 for 4-5 months now. I fitted a Hawke Sport 4x32 AO scope, cleaned & lubed it , broke it in with about 3500 pellets, it likes the cheap Daisy Dome pellets 14.3 grain & is accurate & hard hitting, I too would highly recommend this well made good looking gun

    I just made this modification but used two rings from a chain mail diy jewelry kit. The wire was about .6 or .7 mm thick and it was just right. The trigger moves about a half inch and takes less effort. Very happy with the results! You could use any wire of the right thickness. Just wrap the wire around a rod a couple times, remove and snip your rings off.

    Thank you sir. I just ordered my Crosman Optimus in .22 cal from Airgun Depot for $129.99 .
    It came with a FREE set of steel silhouette targets too, haha.
    I know this video is 10 years old so I hope you are in good health. I bought this air rifle because I wanted a rifle
    that could take down small game if I had to and would be easy to supply with low cost ammunition.
    I expressly wanted an old school springer because I do not trust these new Nitrogen filled piston driven rifles not to leak over time. I know I have had to replace the nitrogen filled cylinders that hold up the rear hatch on my 1990 Voyager minivan
    about every four or five years.

    Great review. BTW, the GTX II trigger is an excellent upgrade and well worth the $30 cost. I added one to my Optimus, and also installed a nitro piston kit. It's very accurate with the premier domed pellets and can penetrate completely through 2 empty tin cans at 10 metres. I own more expensive air guns, but for shooting fun, the Optimus is my favorite.

    Just picked up a Crosman Optimus and I'm just tickled to death with it. Best $100 I've spent in ten years! You pick it up and it feels like a Winchester Model 70 featherweight. Not a surprise since they both weigh the same. Precise and tight fitting action (except the looong pull trigger and chinzty plastic trigger guard) and really nice shoulder pad. Stock is hardwood quality but the finish isn't that great. There is an adjustment screw for the trigger pull on mine, but presumably he had it all the way out? That squirrel's gonna wish he never tore up the lawn chairs :-)

    Hello Kenny, I loved your review & found it to be very informative. I bought a new Crosman just over a week ago (re youre review) during which time I've already put some 400 rounds through the barrel! It appears that Crosman have rectified the trigger issue referred to by you as mine is a two stage adjustable which I've set to your recommended 1/4 inch. For now I am using $5.00 for 500 pellets and already achieving a 1/2 inch grouping @ 30 yrds. Regards, Kevin (from South Africa)

    I bought my youngest son the Optimus .22cal version of this rifle for his B-day last April. Likes the 14.3gr Gamo rockets so far. Nice rifle with the same velocity range as the Hatsan Striker 1000, & Edge. But about 1.5lbs lighter. I replace the cheap rings and Centerpoint 4x32 scope it came with with spare Winchester 3-9x32 scope off my 1400cs and a Hammers 4-bolt mount. Solid rifle now! Gonna have him try the 16gr H&N hornets on small pigs. .22 air rifles have taken some good size pigs with one head shot on here.

  • @myairgunreviews

    I bought the gun used and I don't think it was Broke In. I did shoot very well with the Gamo Rocket 9.26 grain. At 20 meters (62.6ft) it shot a 1" X 1/2" group (10 shots) with a pellet not known for it's accuracy.

  • @kevingrimbeek2106
    @kevingrimbeek2106 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hello Kenny. I followed your suggestion to the letter wrt modifying the trigger machanism with equally good results, albeit at the expense of my warranty! Then I had a mishap, whereby I accidentally set the trigger off while the gun was cocked and broke the spring! Living in South Africa, the only spring I could source was 4 3/4 inch's longer than the original, so I cut it to a just fit whist cocking.I also fashioned a very tough nylon bush as a shock-absorber for the "less than perfect cut end" to protect the spring guide at the rear of the rifle. Without a chrony I can still tell that my rifle is hitting so much harder now and accuracy at full rest with the H&N 9.26 grn Crow Magnum's is = to a dime at 20 yards! What's your take on this?
    Kind Regards.

    Very pleased with my copy. Very accurate with my cheap local pellets (7.56 grains), at only about 950 FPS though. However, still plenty enough FPE to put holes in tin (not Aluminum) cans (through and through). Even the freebie scope worked for me until I decided to upgrade. I did the trigger mod (RC bearing) and am very happy with it. Once, shot a bird up in a tree, dead before it hit the ground (Never again, I swear!) I am Pinoy/ Pangalatok (he-he)

    Go to Walmart and get a gun cleaning kit and some Hoppe's No 9 gun bore solvent and gun oil. Order some "Nylon Bore Brush's online. Dip the Nylon bore brush in the solvent and run it through the bore at least 20 times. Use the cleaning patches and bore mop to clean out any residue and put a light coating of gun oil in the bore to keep it from rusting. A few drops of oil on a cleaning pellet or cleaning patch will do.

    the platinum and raptors are different in weight, the platinum is 4.7 and raptors are 5.3 its heavier because of the coating on the pellet, so you would be above a bit on velocity, crosman and hatsan unlike gamo are reasonable for velocity claims, gamo for decades has been 100-150 fps over rated, they still dont get it, but i still by riffles from them anyway.

    • @myairgunreviews
      @myairgunreviews  11 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Gamo PBA's are nothing short of Pure Crap. They should not be allowed to sell them. The 4.7's that came with the Gamo Big Cat 1400 only averaged 1154fps. The RWS Hypermax 5.2g's averaged 1303fps with that gun.

    • @Corysfortunes
      @Corysfortunes 11 ปีที่แล้ว

      i agree, them light ones by gamo are not good, but beeman eco fts are great, and fit very well, no blow by like gamo platinums 4.7 and crosman ssp 4.0 gr pellets, if they fit loose in barrel they will always perform with very wide spread and very high deviation, some gamo riffles pellets fall practically down the barrel from being to loose.

    • @Corysfortunes
      @Corysfortunes 11 ปีที่แล้ว

      if you can buy a hatsan 125 in .177, i have seen reviews on .22 and have done mine on .25 cal and both get 30 ft/lbs or more. i would bet hatsans claim of 1250 fps for lead would be actually more for the .177, and alloys maybe expect 1400-1500 fps or more. the gamo hunter series is another big lie by gamo to, not close to 1650, more like low end 1500, i think the hatsan 125 is the king of power for any break barrel gun in probably in all .177 .22 and .25 riffles.

    What's ridiculous about the scope it looks good and that's the default scope that you get in a combo specs It aint that it's too small and cheap and not able to keep up with the rifle at long range I know I have my scope on my one going to 22 gamma mile though mild school would won the 1st original OG Springer I showed 22 slugs out of that at about a 100 yd I don't know how to make I don't have a chrono or know how to measure the foot's parentheses put now but I know it hits those metal plates just as hard as not harder than my 22LR But I use like 1823 grade Crane H and NJSB slugs and pellet slugs

      If it will take out a Rabbit, it will take out a Squirrel.

      Yes. I’ve had no problem with squirrels and Even large possum and medium raccoons, using .177. The crossman destroyer round is the best with it for hunting. It gives good accurate shots and lots of knockdown on hit. The destroyer or rounds that expand are key, pointed ones just pass through without much knockdown.

    This weapon has a speed of 1200fps. But in Canada, airguns are locked at 495fps.
    This is why I no longer buy Air Rifle.
    It won't even break a small glass bottle. 😟

      Same … some co2 rifle can be modified easily and get to 900fps so it’s worth it but he’s Canada sucks for that

      In Canada you can get an airguns that shoots over 495, you just need your gun license

      You have to take a firearms course, which lasts one day.
      There, you will obtain: Hunter’s certificate and Firearm possession and acquisition permit.
      Then, you must go to the central police office, and make a request: Authorization to acquire restricted firearms.
      After about 1 year of waiting, if you get your card and authorization paper.
      For a restricted weapon, you must register with a shooting club.
      You go to a gunsmith to buy your weapon.
      You can't go out right away with your weapon. A police investigation forces you to wait a very long time.
      You must have a clean criminal record.
