Here is my thought, since he sells to a pet shop, approacxh the pet shop with a project idea and rent/borrow a gecko to test yhe project and gecko is returned to the pet shop with finished enrichment item in it's enclosure and more for customers. I think that snake toy made from grape vines and hangs from a small chain would be great for my gargoyle...I do have ideas for enrichment for him but no longer have access to NC vines ...Anyway I only use YT, but I will check out his store and selling on Amazon is a good idea.
Or decent-sized terrariums for that matter. Here in Europe, several countries have legal minimum standards for enclosure sizes, but you can't commercially buy any enclosure of that size for a cornsnake or a ball python. (Also not for a hamster btw: the cages in the pet trade are at least half too small compared to what the legislation requires.) But, then again, these "minimum standards" are based on just someone's opinion and there is no research behind them what however. So we actually do not know if it makes such a difference for the animals in question. I could even imagine that we are not going to see any real difference in behaviour until the terrarium is twice or three times as large as that standard states.
Great episode. Definitely the life of reptile keeping is diy for sure . Great job young man way to think of your animals first and I loved hearing that the trading forums makes me sick I believe if you get an animal that’s yours until you literally can’t provide for it but to get rid of 1 for another or to open up room to buy something else like come on
They don’t sell them because there is no demand for them. When people start looking for more enrichment, this will probably change. The hard thing is that in areas where reptile keeping isn’t that well known, you can’t even find appropriate standard stuff, such as hides.
This is so cool. I'm also from northwest Indiana I wonder if we've crossed paths. If you're on here Dylan L do you vend any of the local expos with your products?
I am considering getting a hamster wheel for my white tree frogs I wonder if pet stores don't stock them because there's not enough interest to test safety for said toys, or there's too many types of snakes/reptiles to test safety for.
Yeah, I’ve seen people use hamster wheels for hermit, crabs, and leopard geckos. So it would probably work for frogs. But yes, I think your theory is probably correct.
Crested geckos would love that! Many geckos would. Smaller monitors too. Tree frogs... yeah definitely make a climbing/hanging version of the 'dog toy'. So many people would by it.
Interesting, but what is missing is creativity from owners, you can build yourself for free using branches, I used mezzanine bed structure for my burmese, Rather than buy overprice printed plastic junk. How many microplastics are generatted by your dog destroying toys? train your dog to chew on a stick! For burrow hide you can use a wide terracotta pot upside down with heat mat attached to outside, drill holes to shape door perfect it with sand paper. I think the ideas here are good it just needs to dial in ecologic factor. (I will agree with you that there is not much left to do invent for humans in modern day, but printing more plastic to sell on etsy adding carbon footprint to animal keeping is not way forward, If people carry on buying from amazon next thing you will know is that amazon will sell you a kidney and own the entire world, and all shops will be closed) my 2 cent opinion

Was literally thinking of this recently. Itll help with kids or people who made an impulse buy stay engaged with their pet. This is the future
100%, that’s a great point!
As a person not DIY inclined I really appreciated this discussion. It shouldn't be so hard to provide enrichment to our reptiles!
Thank you Dylan and Dillon! I’m happy to see these enrichment options out there for snakes and other reptiles.
Thank you, Lori! And thanks for introducing Dylan to so many people as well 😀
Such a shame these aren't available in UK, I think you're into a winner👍
Great video and good as a reminder to all exotics keepers to provide enrichment for our animals.
Awesome!!!! I'm positive my kingsnakes would love the burrow hides!
I bet they would!

inviting foster fail scenario >_
Love to see this kind of innovation! I will have to try some of these products - great ideas!
It’s not shocking pet stores don’t sell enrichment when most don’t even sell appropriate hides.
Haha true!

Speaking of wheels for lizards. I bought my leopard gecko one and he uses it like all the time.

If you go Amazon you will be slammed. Expect to need at least 2 more 3D printers.
