Thanks Bret. As a gamer, one cannot realistically get angry with GPU miners, as if miners are the issue. This is a psychology. To some degree, we want it easier, and when this desire is met by change and difficulty--aka someone outhustling us, we get offended, and become myopic, refusing to take into account the dynamics involved. Simply put, it justifies our need to lash out. Gamers are not righteous in this argument and frankly it makes me wonder who is(?). As an asic hobbyist, my interest in GPU is growing, as is my interest in gaming....And I have that familiar need to villainize industrial mining, because "they are the problem within any field."--even though graphics cards are their own industry. So, whether you're a miner, a BTC/alt holdler/trader, media/press, it's a vicious circle, one in which we are all guilty....this includes the gamer.

All coins went up. The ASICs got kicked out of mining XMR, gpus rushed into Cryptonight, then coins on other algo like VTC and ZEC profitability also went up... that means there was a ton of hash that these “suppliers” were using to compete against their customers.
Thanks UFD Tech, your video earlier helped with changing from etn to xmr earlier than without it! But the reason for the decrease in the whole monero network could still be that giant mining facilites take a while to switch all of their systems to a new miner version that supports the new algo. I think that only after a month it can actually be seen if there were previously asics on the network.

Thanks for talking about something I didn't know about, that when everyone starts mining, & buying Monero, the difficulty goes up. I think that is why Genesis Mining is not too quick to bring back their cloud mining contracts just yet. All I want is Monero to have low difficulty, & nice profitability.
You just answered yourself why no miner would ever pay much more than MSRP for a card, but gamers will run all the 1080ti's out of stock on amazon at $1400 a piece.
I haven't bought a GPU in months until I scored a 1080ti yesterday for $725.

The drop in monero difficuly is likely due to miners not updating their software and not entirely ASICs. Also, this increased profitability will be short lived as Nicehash miners and other multi-coin mining software auto switces miners over to XMR. It's only been a day since the video was posted and XMR profitability has dropped ~30% and the difficulty trend line is on a rapid rise.
I think you may have jumped the gun - this lasted for about a day, at least on NiceHash. I was making good profits on CryptoNightV7 for a bit, but now my Nvidia GPUs are back to mining Verge or ZCash, and my AMD GPUs have gone back to ETH. Easy come, easy go.

Half a year ago was super-profitable. NVidia users on the other hand were on X16s/r over the last weeks and having a blast :-)
$1 per day is still 3x less than the last couple of months on a "normal" card such as a 1070/580 - wouldn't call it super profitable for everyone :P
and burning more than that in the power to run the card...
It lasted hours, now it is going really low again, 3 bucks on 1080, 1070, 1070ti that's not what i call profitable.

I mine with a single 1070 that I got far before the craze and only when I am sleeping and at school. (sophomore) But my zcash went from every 3 days a payout of 0.01 to every two days. This video explains where all the difficulty went.

All this hate for miners... Let's take a poll. Be honest, if you had the expendable money to invest in a 6-10 card mining rig, would you do it?
I got into mining completely on a whim because I had hardware idling that I wasn't using, and I don't pay anything for electricity. Then the bitcoin bubble happened a couple of months later, when I hadn't even figured out what I was doing enough to clear a payout from the mining pool. I'm not getting rich off of what I'm doing with mining, but if I had the money to invest in more cards I'd definitely do it, and I bet most people would. All of this bitching really just comes across as vitriol for people having more money than you do.

This mostly applies to Vega-cards though and most certainly quite short-term. Already difficulty increased 25% last 24 hours, perhaps because of rigs switching, or slow miners who didn't change miningsoftware? Equihash/Eth coins are still most profitable for my GTXs, where Monero comes at place #15
Everyone around here needs to realize that even without this development, mining was still really profitable. But now Monero/Sumo have ~5x the profitability they had before, and even Ethereum's price has gone up by 30%. Mining wasn't dying, and now its incredibly profitable again...

WarmSoftKitty it fell off once. Any business man who’s worth his business will not take risk nor will they seek to take part in something that’s crashed and failed previously! It’s not wise. But how many people are willing to just invest thousands of dollars in something that isn’t reliable?
There are risk takers but that’s because they have faith that it’ll turn around! This is just mining with video cards desperate attempt to cut their losses from loosing such huge sums of money on graphics cards.
GPU mining won’t die, but mining as a sole source of income is and will be dead for the commoners. Cool hobby for the working person though.
I wish they confined the warranty for cards being used (actually abused) for mining to a minimum. So used cards could not be sold with profit any more and only few people would buy from a seller who has used their cards for mining obviously.

I'm sad because this profitability peak lasted only 3 days after they fork, had the ASICs updated the firmware to deal with the fork? Now the Monero drop down to pre fork rates
The difficulty really isn't that low. It doesn't look like much more than just the people that hadn't updated their mining software.
Perhaps we will need to have every major currency alter their algorithms regularly to avoid this in the future and make the charts more stable.
It's fairly clear looking back on charts that as the ASIC manufacturer companies release 'new' technology are actually releasing THEIR old hardware to the public.
They are smart enough to stay a step ahead. But during the time when GPU prices flying to the moon, the "Asic Resistant" currencies have huge difficulty spikes I was very sure that there were hidden Asics chugging away in the shadows.
Just as most of us have thought for a while, the ASIC sellers are double dipping - they reap the best then when their next project comes along they finally sell it.
Went back to mining Monero 4 days ago. I wouldn't say "highly profitable", but at least I'm not contemplating selling off my rigs. I would love to see cryptos in the future plan regular hard forks every 6 months or so.

Nintendork I saw that same thing happen too. AMD stock was so low before the PS4/XBOX release as well as ryzen and crypto boom. I think they’ll continue to make $$$. I still couldn’t afford 50k shares though. Maybe 500. Oh well.

cryptocurrencies baiscally have been banned in india and even if theres less miners there is less and less coins and new ones will only be generated with transaction fees which couldnt sustain even a fifth of the bitcoin market
this may impact other cryptos positively or negatively , of course less ppl mining bitcoin means other cryptos are being mined more is a bad thing because of diffculuty but other cryptos may increase in price , popularity and people thinking other hard-capped cryptos will fail like bitcoin

You also made a video called "End of Vega Mining Dominance? - Cryptonight ASICs". Where you said GPUs that mine Cryptonight will not be attractive anymore because they won't be as profitable. As it now stands Vega and AMD cards are more profitable than anything else. Also, it's not just Monero who has forked. Virtually all Cryptonight coins are have or are hard forking. So far it's been Sumo, HVN, XTL, TRTL, followed by Graft( GRFT) this weekend.

At current calculations on whattomine the difference over ethereum has dropped to between 20 and 40% higher. Still better but not like a few days ago at 200% better

Just waiting for new graphics cards to come out then I’ll build the rigs up. It’s not our fault GPU prices are up it’s simply due to supply and demand just like with everything. Both AMD and Nvidia never made enough that’s it. They will make sure it won’t happen again as they will simply make a lot more graphics cards next time round.

Basically with this video you're helping gamers because more people going to jump on the monero train, or ship, which is then going to sink faster. Soon the miner rats will have no where to go, and gamers can finally buy gpu's again for normal prices. So this video is actually good news.
It has to end somewhere, or at least where it doesn't become interesting anymore for a large group of people, we have already reached that turning point, unless there is a crazy spike or turn of event which is very unlikely.

Yea, when I was mining monero I kind of noticed the network rate was pretty weird.
Massive amounts of hashing power hit the network suddenly... it was millions of Vega’s worth. It was super fishy. I was wondering if somebody figured out how to spoof or something.

I mine monero for over 6 months - no changes. so I guess this guy is just wrong! btw even if my eyes are wrong and this guy is right - Monero is like 1/20 daily turnover of ETH- so if all ETH farms switched to monero - monero difficulty will rise x20 times. one might say - "well all will never switch from ETH to XMR" - yea but if only 1/20 of ETH farms will switch then Monero dificulty will increase x2 times

If anyone thought that the asic makers weren't using the miners before release, they're fools. It's NOT bad that they run the machines first. They HAVE to know that the machines will last at least as long as the warranty they offer. So it is not only acceptable for them to run a test batch of at least 100 units but hopefully less than 1000 units, it's the right thing to do. It is not the right thing to sell those units as new though.
That being said, eff asics, eff bitmain, eff all the other asic manufacturers and eff bitcoin for not forking from sha256 when the first asic was released and allowing this bullcrap to continue.
Oh yeah and eff gamers. Computer enthusiast > gamer because computer enthusiast appreciates everything a computer can do, especially pay for it's own upgrades.
