Yep, my 2024 Cadillac XT4 (0-60 in 7 sec) is quicker than my 2014 Toyota Highlander (0-60 in 7.6 sec) that I traded in. XT4 also handles better too. I upgraded from a 2014 Toyota Highlander to a 2024 Cadillac XT4 this past weekend (the 2024 highlander drove the same and is pretty much the same chasis and interior so it's boring). The Cadillac XT4 has no turbo lag that I can feel. Every other car that I test drove had turbo lag, whether short or long...Mercedes GLC300 (least turbo lag), BMW X3 (a little more turbo lag), Porsche Macan S (even more turbo lag), Honda (way too much turbo lag). I purchased a 2023 platinum Highlander the four-cylinder turbo engine is extremely fast and reliable. It has extreme amenities on the platinum edition, and Toyota is known for reliability. I traded a Lexus for this platinum edition, and so happy that I did highly recommended.!!! there is no turbo lag and the third seat is great when you need it it is doable
I just bought the Limited model. 2.4T. The dealer had two in stock. A Limited and a Platinum. The panoramic roof on the Platinum turned me off. An expensive problem waiting to happen after you go over one too many potholes. A lot of complaints about cracked panoramic roofs. Per Toyota forum comments, a $ 10,000 repair.
I'm not a huge toyota fan and generally don't even like suv's. having said that, this is an absolute homerun by toyota. It's a good looking car with no weird designs, It's has a beautiful interior that's not over the top. It's reliable and relatively affordable. what else can you ask for.
Fwiw.. I have a 21 limited hybrid and it consistently knocks off under 56 decibels at 55 mph. Around town it's pretty easy to knock off around 45 m p g and at 55 mph pretty easy to knock off 37 to 38 MPG. There's not much to dislike about this vehicle if you don't need the third row room.
Hi @CarConfections :) I enjoy watching your videos, especially your 'signature sound level readings'. Question : As per your observation/opinion are sound levels increasing in newer cars? Thanks!
Thanks! Gas cars are pretty stable year-to-year it appears but electric vehicles are where you get more variance even though most of them cost about 60k
Incredible review, thank you for all the great insights! As someone thinking about buying a Highlander vs. Grand Highlander, I have a question about the third row leg room: at around 13:05 you measured your legroom at around 10". If you moved the seat forward 5-7", would that have given you enough leg room to sit somewhat comfortably in the third row when you did your sit-in around 14:45 (aside from the lack of thigh support)?
Glad you enjoyed! You can definitely move the seats around to try to redistribute the space. The seats will still be low to the ground and the person in the 2nd row would need to be on the shorter side.
Really? You have obviously not driven nor towed with it. These V6 comments are so old at this point. I lived in Japan for 11 years, Turbos are NOT NEW, TURBO engines last just as long, their numbers are their numbers and tend to be higher than the non turboss they are replacing.. They are built to withstand everything they are built for. The Propaganda pushed by Nissan and Honda is next level. The Honda v6 is a SLUG! as is the V6 and 6 speed combo in the older Toyotas.....SLUG! I have a Ford ST TURBO, as was my Skyline and Abarth....best cars ever, all over 100k before I sold them....my Focus is at 130,000 no issues at all a TANK .... SkyLine had almost 200k miles when sold, Turbo was fine as was the engine.
🖐😳 was considering a Highlander and recently spent a week driving the California coast in a rented 2024. The week convinced me to take it off my possibles list. Drive is ok, not great, inside is cheap plastic everywhere and looks cheap too. The dash layout is the most jumbled, confused dash I’ve ever seen. Pretty thirsty on gas too. To my surprise, definite pass.
The crossbars is a convenient excuse we had a 2021 platinum we bought new it had wind noise above 50 mile an hour. End of story I was always checking to see if the windows were shut even change the tires earlier on the thing didn’t help it wasn’t the tires. It was wind noise, and people have been complaining about it since the redesignV6 revved all over the place and it sounds like the four-cylinder is worse
What trim? I have the2024 Limited and it’s very quiet. My previous car was the noisy Venza hybrid. Maybe that’s why I think the 2.4 T Limited is quiet.
I have Highlander 2021, bumper came off in 2022 that time I went to dealer and they refused to repair. I did repairs from insurance company i.e. ICBC. Now I got the recall for the same and I request Toyota to refund the money I paid for the repair or still paying as my insurance went up really high. Insurance company does not agree to put me off from the penalty. Falling Bumper Recall..
Does anyone know if the rubber mats come standard? I see the carpet mats as add-on for the Highlander (online), but nothing about rubber mats. Thank you 🙏🏼
I had a 2011 Honda Pilot. Very comfortable, but heavy on gas. Accomodates 8. Used it for 11 years . Last year I bought a 2023 Hybrid Highlander Limited. On a ride from Syracuse to Boston with 5 adults it averaged 40 mpg, and saved a lot of money on gas. 2nd row captains seats are a great feature. 3rd row bench is not desirable, but the passenger there can stretch his/her feet on the spce between the 2nd row seats.☑
For all the people complaining that Toyota removed the V6, believe me Toyota didn’t want to do that. They had to in order to meet new US emissions standards. I too was bummed out by this change. I have an Avalon with the 3.5L V6 and it’s a smooth powerful engine. But 🤷🏻♂️. Interestingly, Honda was able to stay with their 3.5L V6 when they updated the Pilot. Not sure how they were able to do it when Toyota had to lose theirs. In any case, the 2.4L turbo might not be a bad choice. It seems peppy enough and mpg is at least as good as the V6. Emissions are half the V6’s. Reliability is probably more of a question, however. I also test drove the Highlander hybrid. Gas mileage was good, but the driving dynamics sucked. The V6 was so much more satisfying to drive. I’m planning to try out the 2.4L turbo.
I just got mine two days ago. I have around 188 miles right now and can feel the turbo lag. Whenever I am at a traffic stop and I press the accelerator slightly at green, the engine makes a loud noise and the torque is very low (even a Honda Civic can pass me at that time) Turbo lag is real and there’s a lot of people with the same issue since 2023 highlander came out. I wish I had done a quick research on the internet before getting the car. Has anybody found a cure to this so far?
Thank you for sharing your experiences. The 4 cyl turbo + the weight of vehicle concerns me alot. I'm gonna pass on the Highlander. I appreciate your RealWorld observations. 😊
This car is so overpriced now that Toyota has increased the price. Bit of a headscratcher now that the Grand Highlander is here. The 3rd row here is pretty useless and exterior looks dated and worse compared to the GH. It's now awkwardly sandwiched between the RAV4 and GH, but not really as small as the former or as practical as the latter.
I think it’s a little odd that the wood trim is only on the doors and console but not on the dash since that is actually where you will the looking the majority of the time while you are driving/actually on the vehicle.
I want to get this suv but I have a Subaru Ascent Touring and it also has heated and cooled front and back seats. I have more features. So hard to give up.
Ha guys ! I have a question is the blue ambient lighting still in this model like the 20-22 ??? Thanks hope to hear back guys , great review from you guys also !!!
Pretty color combo with the interior, but the design is very disjointed and awkward. Nothing flows together. The gauge cluster is like looking inside a cave. The exterior is really stale as well. Time for a new design!
The Grand Highlander weighs less than the Highlander, the GH is a new redesigned vehicle, like the old forerunner the old Highlander is getting a bit heavy and old

Ah, the Toyota Highlander! It's a popular SUV known for its reliability, spaciousness, and versatility. The Highlander offers comfortable seating for up to eight people, making it a great choice for families or those who need extra passenger space. It also has a generous cargo capacity, so you can easily haul your belongings on road trips or adventures. With its smooth ride and advanced safety features, the Highlander provides a comfortable and secure driving experience. It's definitely worth considering if you're in the market for an SUV! 🚙💨
Nope it’s not good vs its rivals. The competition creams the highlander and grand highlander in every aspect This is a car for people who A. have the lowest of standards; B. Don’t know anything; C. Don’t possess any kind of physical sense
But when you sell this vehicle used you will get good money back, as Toyota hold there value. Just because one person has a transmission issue doesn't mean the model is garbage
This car is beautiful they thought of everything! A bit on the pricey side but you're buying quality. I wish Toyota would build a 2JZ 2.0 straight six 3L motor and put it in everything like BMW does. But the 2.4L I4 Turbo is probably a good motor, can somebody confirm?
A 2 row highlander would be a better option, and have the grand highlander be the 3 row option. I've been in the third row of highlanders before and I feel they are specifically made for midgets
@@Aikynbreusov I see it this way. A 2 row Highlander will be the perfect answer for the newly announced CX-70, which is a 2 row CX-90. It can also compete with popular 2 row mid sizes like the Grand Cherokee, Edge, Santa Fe, etc. It could also be an affordable option if people don't want to dish out more money for the Crown Signia.
The Lexus has acoustic glass on all windows. It also has better overall insulation under the hood, which helps deaden the sound coming through the front dash.
Nice riding quality vehicle, but I found it to simultaneously seem small but big.. both in the wrong ways. I rented one in ‘22 and was constantly having to consciously avoid hitting my head getting in the driver’s side. It felt like it maneuvered like a bigger vehicle yet the interior felt smaller. This is comparing to a Tucson which is a smaller vehicle that felt bigger inside yet still drove like a smaller vehicle. Highlander was definitely comfortable though.
Once again, people should stop talking about how great the Grand Highlander is because of a most important thing, it didn’t receive any IIHS award because it’s rated Acceptable in the small overlap crash! Meanwhile, the Pilot, is a much safer option, having it earn a Top Safety Pick+ award. While the Highlander (not Grand) still earned that award so pretty much the Grand Highlander is laughable in terms of safety from IIHS.
What is going on? Toyota needs to bring the V6 back to the table as an option turbo 4 cylinder won’t last 300,000 miles no thank you. I don’t get it why Toyota is going with turbo 4 it doesn’t even get better gas mileage than the V6 anyway The V6 is more robust than the turbo 4. My 2022 highlander has the V6 and I absolutely love it!
Great review once again. Toyota makes such incredibly great cars but they always chintz out on the led (lack of) led lighting. Maybe most people don't notice or care.
I'm afraid I need to politely correct the pronunciation of the word "Highlander". Its accent is on the first syllable, such as Croc'-codile, Gen'-tleman, Oc'-topus; thus High'-lunder; not HighLAND'-der. 😊
Nope I’d rather get the Highlander Hybrid Platinum 2024. Even if Toyota raises the price by $5k over the Grand Highlander, I’ll still get the regular Highlander Hybrid Platinum all day. It’s a fantastic vehicle and luxurious.
Not everyone needs a huge SUV with 3 rows aka GH. I have this vehicle, older one with the V6, best vehicle I’ve ever owned. I’d buy a 2025 one if it continues on and hopefully gets an exterior change. Honestly they should drop the 3rd row in this vehicle, I never use mine. (It also has a regular spare tire, not a temporary one).
Ive been seriously looking at this SUV. However, I cant get past the 4 cyl turbo being underpowering for the weight of vehicle. Seems like TOYOTA uses features (cool interior colors) to deflect from underpowered engine. The reality is the turbo lag, weight of vehicle & 4 cyl enhine are deal breakers for me.
Highlander or toyota overall is never the best one in the market, but they also won't be a "wrong" choice in any cases. if you are not married to any particular brand and don't know what to buy, get a toyota.
The Highlander is horrid for tall people! The center console wall digs into your right gas leg thigh, especially if you are tall. Also, the cheap sliding cover on the center console is SO THIN I am afraid my elbow will go right thru it and it slides back if you lean on it. It should be a solid lift lid, not a cheap plastic slide cover!
Decend review but honestly, I'd rather be into a highlander than any German car. While the Germans are fun to drive, they are ridiculous to service, maintain and fix and they need to be fixed A LOT.
Toyota destroyed the Highlander with that God awful turbo engine. I owned a 2017 Highlander that had some body roll, but aside from that the ride was very smooth and comfortable. I test drove an XSE today and it had terrible, and I mean TERRIBLE turbo lag. Mind you, I test drove the Highlander about 15 minutes after I test drove the Atlas, which was not only more comfortable, but had a much nicer cabin (and no significant turbo lag). I am highly disappointed in Toyota and hope they go back to the naturally aspirated 6-cylinder engine.
yea , a review of several three rows, and they liked the sporty ness of the Atlas. Its also huge inside with supposedly more adult leg room third row than the grand H. i got in grand h, the third seat may be a bit higher, but i did feel it as much roomier than my regular highlander with the second row slightly forwar. Your knees are up in the air in the reg highlander, and grand still are also but not so bad.
The highlander is boring and outdated. Abd not to mentioned but this highlander got transmission around 30k. This car is a good lease at best. Reliability on these Toyotas are becoming a nightmare
Agreed. The GH and highlander should be discontinued already. Both of them fail to compete with the strongest offerings from Honda Hyundai Kia Mazda gmc Chevy etc.
Ya, other boring vehicles that are even worse though IMO. Chevy malibu: I want to personally meet the humans that spend 20-30,000$ on a new 2023 or 24 malibu, its outside my understanding. Hyundai Venue: it's not as bad, the interior looks kinda cool, but the exterior is like a 2009 nightmare Infiniti: with a few exceptions, its like this entire brand was left in the attic And there are certainly others, luckily the equinox is updated got 25, but people driving a 2024 around look the same as they did in 2013
Platinum piece of junk 4 cylinder with turbo come on give me a break that will not last but we all know Toyota is not making Vehicles the last anymore those days are long gone stop buying these pieces of junk you might as well just go buy yourself a Chevy
This car is so boring and outdated. Like imagine you pulling up to the club in this thing and expecting a hot gurl to be impressed! Oh no boo boo!!! Our yams deserve the best!!!!!!

Having transmission problems in that highlander isn't reliable bud. Stop the cap
Nope it’s not good vs its rivals. The competition creams the highlander and grand highlander in every aspect
This is a car for people who A. have the lowest of standards; B. Don’t know anything; C. Don’t possess any kind of physical sense
Is also the recent massive Toyota recall also a sign of toyta reliability?
Did ChatGPT write this drivel? 😂😂
But when you sell this vehicle used you will get good money back, as Toyota hold there value. Just because one person has a transmission issue doesn't mean the model is garbage
Looks awesome
I like my 2020 limited blue ray v6 engine...😅
This car is beautiful they thought of everything! A bit on the pricey side but you're buying quality. I wish Toyota would build a 2JZ 2.0 straight six 3L motor and put it in everything like BMW does. But the 2.4L I4 Turbo is probably a good motor, can somebody confirm?
A 2 row highlander would be a better option, and have the grand highlander be the 3 row option. I've been in the third row of highlanders before and I feel they are specifically made for midgets
That will definitely kill the regular Highlander
The third row is for kids, that is why it is a family vehicle
Grand highlander seems better as a 3 Row crossover SUV than the highlander though
3rd row in this is useful on some occasions
@@Aikynbreusov I see it this way. A 2 row Highlander will be the perfect answer for the newly announced CX-70, which is a 2 row CX-90. It can also compete with popular 2 row mid sizes like the Grand Cherokee, Edge, Santa Fe, etc. It could also be an affordable option if people don't want to dish out more money for the Crown Signia.
You do know the Toyota Highlander is the Lexus RX’s Mainstream Sibling, Right?
This vehicle is bigger way more cargo room. 😂
Look up what is Lexus’s version of the Toyota Highlander on google, it’ll say the Lexus RX
I usually call the RX a gussied up Camry on stilts wearing ugly lipstick
@@naveenthemachine Hey, NOT NICE!
The RX looks fine 😡
Thanks for honest reviews always 👍
Always! Thank you for watching!
Does it comes with acoustic glass?
Just the front windshield and front driver & passenger windows. Not the 2nd row or rear window.
@@djjohnnyparis5183Thanks!
The Lexus has acoustic glass on all windows. It also has better overall insulation under the hood, which helps deaden the sound coming through the front dash.
waited 1 min for sound level cause off the chart 60, nice Toyota
Nice riding quality vehicle, but I found it to simultaneously seem small but big.. both in the wrong ways. I rented one in ‘22 and was constantly having to consciously avoid hitting my head getting in the driver’s side. It felt like it maneuvered like a bigger vehicle yet the interior felt smaller. This is comparing to a Tucson which is a smaller vehicle that felt bigger inside yet still drove like a smaller vehicle. Highlander was definitely comfortable though.
Incandescent turn signals at this price point makes 0 sense 🤔
Once again, people should stop talking about how great the Grand Highlander is because of a most important thing, it didn’t receive any IIHS award because it’s rated Acceptable in the small overlap crash! Meanwhile, the Pilot, is a much safer option, having it earn a Top Safety Pick+ award. While the Highlander (not Grand) still earned that award so pretty much the Grand Highlander is laughable in terms of safety from IIHS.
Thanks you for your video
You are welcome 😀
It looks good!!
I LOVE IT!
I wish they would bring this interior color to the new Tacoma
No V6, no thanx.
😂😂
because of the strictier emission
It’s never coming back.
Ikr. Very unfortunate!
Great review once again. Toyota makes such incredibly great cars but they always chintz out on the led (lack of) led lighting. Maybe most people don't notice or care.
Toyota owners don't tend to have high expectations out of their cars so they wouldn't notice let alone even know what LED lighting is.
I'm afraid I need to politely correct the pronunciation of the word "Highlander". Its accent is on the first syllable, such as Croc'-codile, Gen'-tleman, Oc'-topus; thus High'-lunder; not HighLAND'-der. 😊
This third row is ridiculous! Get rid of it entirely and give me a split 2/1 fold down bench seat as the second row.
WTF is Toyota smoking? For $2k more go with the Grand highlander
Nope I’d rather get the Highlander Hybrid Platinum 2024. Even if Toyota raises the price by $5k over the Grand Highlander, I’ll still get the regular Highlander Hybrid Platinum all day. It’s a fantastic vehicle and luxurious.
@@soaringeagle7571I don't like the hybrid how they drive. I prefer regular. But I also heard that 2025 might have a refresh...
@@fernandosmurillo What about it? You must be the 1st person who thinks hybrid ‘drives’ differently than combustion only vehicle. Strange!
Everyone can’t fit one in their garage.
@@soaringeagle7571, not very smart. Why get a smaller vehicle when you can get one with more space and more feature options? Duh.
❤
Toyota
The Highlander is horrid for tall people! The center console wall digs into your right gas leg thigh, especially if you are tall. Also, the cheap sliding cover on the center console is SO THIN I am afraid my elbow will go right thru it and it slides back if you lean on it. It should be a solid lift lid, not a cheap plastic slide cover!
the grand highlander xle fit my 6 foot 7 inch friend and that is what he had to look at , the right knee.
Talk to new Toyota drivers, and the new 2.4 really sucks, and is horrible when passing another car.
The highlander is boring and outdated. Abd not to mentioned but this highlander got transmission around 30k. This car is a good lease at best. Reliability on these Toyotas are becoming a nightmare
Also very overpriced. 54000 for a Highlander Platinum lol. Why does this still exist when the GH exists.
@@ishaansaral502exactly
Hyundai Venue: it's not as bad, the interior looks kinda cool, but the exterior is like a 2009 nightmare
Infiniti: with a few exceptions, its like this entire brand was left in the attic
And there are certainly others, luckily the equinox is updated got 25, but people driving a 2024 around look the same as they did in 2013
Not this clown again bashing all car brands, except his beloved KIA and Hyundai
Not any more. Santa fe is here to rule the small 3 row class.
So what car impresses woman, so I can identify a gold digger
Not a Toyota
Outlander is much better thn this
Platinum piece of junk 4 cylinder with turbo come on give me a break that will not last but we all know Toyota is not making Vehicles the last anymore those days are long gone stop buying these pieces of junk you might as well just go buy yourself a Chevy
Agreed. I’d rather get the telluride palisade or the new traverse or Acadia. At least they’re far more interesting than the boring Toyota
This car is so boring and outdated. Like imagine you pulling up to the club in this thing and expecting a hot gurl to be impressed! Oh no boo boo!!! Our yams deserve the best!!!!!!
You’re not pulling up to the club in a Toyota Highlander Ding dong.
Still too big. The first Highlander was a perfect size. Then like everything it became bloated
Thats not a 2024 !!!
