    This video is an update to the original Introductory Lesson C. I was torn about removing it because there were some great comments, but ultimately, this video was in bad shape and needed replacing. There was a massive amount of static, so I thought it was important to get this new video out there. There is significantly less static on the video now, and I also corrected one wrong answer (thanks to the person who commented).
    If you're seeing this again, I'm sorry for any confusion. I decided better fix it now than later. I can't simply update a new version since YT would likely see that as a duplicate. I've since learned that TH-cam does weird things with the sound when you don't set your audio limiter low enough.

    I was shocked at 13:14, I could actually hear the overtones of that C so clearly. I don't know if that was just the instrument or if it was my hearing improving, but if it was the latter, then this course's benefits have started way sooner than I expected. I never heard overtones before until today. Thank you for making these videos.

    • @UreMusic
      @UreMusic  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hearing overtones is definitely something that can occur with this course. You’re listening in a new way, and that will change your perception of music. At first, you’ll notice it’s easier with some notes and not others.
      I think I’ll record a video talking about this at some point. Thanks for taking the time to comment, and feel free to keep me updated on your progress!

    I did Intro B twice and made the same mistakes each time. In Intro C the difference between chord and interval is a bit clearer but still needs more work on my part. Notation is easy for me. Looking forward to Lesson 1 after another listen or two to Intro B. Thanks!

    • @UreMusic
      @UreMusic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you happen to notice the time stamp for any mistakes you make consistently, feel free to post here. It’s possible in these intro lessons I made a mistake, so it’s good to double check. The regular lessons are more structured and there shouldn’t be any mistakes!
      Keep me updated on your progress!

    • @susanmeredith3238
      @susanmeredith3238 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The mistakes are mine. There is nothing in the video that is unclear. I plan to repeat Intro C before I move on. Will let you know how it goes. Thanks!

    • @susanmeredith3238
      @susanmeredith3238 ปีที่แล้ว

      Second time through and the treble clef chord vs interval is clearer. Still not hearing the bass clef as well. I think it will just take more listening.
      Also the label for the G interval in the bass clef says C Perfect 5th rather than G Perfect 5th.
      I'll listen to the bass clef chord/interval section some more to see how it improves for me.
      Thanks!

      You'll find they keep getting clearer as you go. I did go ahead and correct the images in the Patreon and UreMusic.com version for sale. I thought I edited it on TH-cam, but I need more editing skills to work with the built-in editor they have!

      @@UreMusic Hi Kevin, I have a question, when you said to repeat it if you have made any mistakes, do you mean repeat the whole lesson the next day once a day and everything day after that until you get 100 percent, or did you mean to repeat just the sections you get answers wrong in on the day until you get 100 percent? Thanks.

    • @UreMusic
      @UreMusic  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @montyfrench2639 you only have to repeat parts that you score less than 100% on. If you only have one part that gives you trouble, you can work on it for up to 30 minutes.

    • @UreMusic
      @UreMusic  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Only the exercises you don’t get 100% on. You can spend up to 30 minutes a day on those. It’s better to focus on the harder exercises.

    Another great lesson!
    Also, wanted to update you that the tip you gave me yesterday about not singing the note while audiating was helpful. I was able to audiate the lower octave notes much easier today when not trying to match it with my own vocal register. Thank you as always for the fantastic work!

    Great work and much appreciated. Of all the exercises so far, I am having difficulty (ie. not getting 100% correct) identifying chord or perfect 5th interval. The perfect 5th sounds like a full chord to me at times. Need more practise and listening.

    • @UreMusic
      @UreMusic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It can also help if you play random notes on an instrument and try to sing a fifth above and below. Arpeggiate triads as well. Singing can be very effective for training the ear.

    • @horriefic
      @horriefic ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Noted. Thanks for replying. Yes I have a piano at home so will do what you suggested. To clarify, to differentiate between a chord vs a perfect 5th interval, are you actually listening for that 3rd middle note? Or is it just a fuller sound ‘feeling’ of a chord that enables you to identify its a chord (vs a perfect 5th interval). Thanks once again!

  • @gringochucha
    @gringochucha 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Sometimes the chord/interval exercise is super easy, but then there are examples where it sounds so major that I think it's a chord instead of the 5th. I clearly need to keep practicing to hear the major 3rd consistently. It's friggin hard, but I'm sure I'll get there. Thanks!

    • @UreMusic
      @UreMusic  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s about right. There are always questions that sort the As and Bs (grades). But with this, you eventually will get an A.

  • @brianj4090
    @brianj4090 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The interval/chord section was about the same. That part comes relatively easy for me so far. Identifying and singing the lower and higher notes in pitch breakdown is by far the hardest exercise for me and today seemed easier than yesterday.

    • @UreMusic
      @UreMusic  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s great. The ability to break apart chords and intervals tends to improve quickly in the beginning. It plateaus a bit once you get to 5 or 6 notes.

      Yep, and honestly, I recommend never spending more than 3 weeks on one lesson. The goal is to acclimate and culture the ear. If you’re impatient, 1 week would be fine!

    Nice introduction! Last time, I was struggling to sing the correct notes. I have practiced it with a tuner app on my phone and have noticed that I am now better at identifying the correct note that I sing. I am eager to do one lesson every day from now on.

    • @UreMusic

      That’s how this course should work. It should help musicians at multiple levels too. Some will have trouble matching pitch and some will have trouble hearing inside chords. Some may find this all very easy, but most everyone is improving. That’s my hope for the course, and based on my years of teaching and hard won experience, it should work for most people. I do recognize that it won’t work for everyone, but I am really happy to hear you are seeing improvement!

      That’s how this works. The first lessons are harder and that’s when you know you are ready to continue. This is what’s missing - you need to have the foundation before you deal with advanced concepts.

      Absolutely, this training will deal with a wide variety of chords, progressions, and successions, but it does it in a logical way that you’ll see over time.

  • @СергейХристяченко
    @СергейХристяченко ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thank you, Kevin! This is truly something. I have a question. I've always seemed to be limited by my ability to audiate and then recreate a tone with my voice. Turned out that if I hear a tune I can only identify the first two notes and the rest turns into a mess. I mean I start confusing the tones and become not able to even find them on the instrument. But on some rare occasions I can hear a tune more clearly in my head and therefore manage to find its notes. Still have no idea what causes that difference. I thought it had something to do with my "musical memory", however I found that it's more like my brain can't understand the tones and mixes them up as a result. I'd compare it to a foreign language that is unknown to you. When you listen to a speech you can see how words are changing each other and you even may be able to repeat some of them but once a person stopes speaking you won't be able to remember anything except the last words. Relations between the words are also unavailable because of lack of the meaning of what was said. I hope that makes sense. I'd be really happy to hear your comment on this. Should I just continue working using the lessons or there's something that is more suited for that case? The whole purpose of that is to be able to sing. As you might have guessed my singing sucks big time :) I'd be really grateful to hear your response.

    I am finding 'Interval or Chord' relatively difficult. I'm going over this part twice and tend to get slightly better results second time. It is easier (for me) to discern the interval after hearing the chord of the same name.

    • @UreMusic
      @UreMusic  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That’s exactly right what you just said. “You get slightly better result the second time.” So, if you come back tomorrow, it might be better, or it might be worse. Come back again one day later, and now maybe you hear it clearly. Maybe it takes 7 days, but what is happening is your ear is opening up. Eventually, you’ll wonder why you ever had trouble.
      Ultimately, it’s up to you what happens from here. You can stop because it’s difficult or you can take a relaxed approach and put in a full effort once per day until what is difficult becomes easy. I’m not sure you were asking for advice, but the cure for this difficulty you’re experiencing is to just keep coming back until you hear it easily.

    I get the treble clef right the first time but get off on the bass clef

    • @UreMusic
      @UreMusic  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The bass clef examples are often more difficult. It’s not the register, they are genuinely more difficult. Once you have the solutions, you can memorize the example. As long as you listen to the dictation and then dictate from memory in the session, you will make the necessary progress.

    The organization of this material needs some work. This video is labeled "3." but I can't find 1 or 2. There is a Session 1, an Introduction, a Lesson 1, Unit 1. Pick a system and stick to it.

    • @UreMusic
      @UreMusic  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I appreciate you taking the time to post feedback. A few ways to access the series:
      1) You can click the title at the very top of the description. That is the Playlist, and it is how TH-cam helps out with Playlists.
      2) You can use the quick URL FlawlessEar.com listed in the video title to access the entire playlist.
      3) You could go straight to my channel and select the Flawless playlist.
      4) You could find the videos by clicking the "More from Kevin A. Ure" tab or something like that in the sidebar. The "More from the Series" tab only shows you the remaining videos so it won't show the previous ones for some reason.
      5) You could also use the link in the description I provided to access the first video.
      There are probably other ways as well, but I'm not all that familiar with TH-cam.
      As for the Introductory videos, the numbers at the beginning of each title show the ordering. The introductory videos are different and need to be highlighted so that you can go back and review the instructions easily, they are also only meant to be taken once.
      I hope this helps. It's a good question. I put a lot of thought into how I would organize what will be 400+ videos, but I really appreciate the time you took for to offer suggestions for making it more clear.
      The Sessions you are referring to are from another ear training program that is not related to this. Everything in this program has Flawless Ear Training at the head of the title.

      You should absolutely practice listening in real world applications. The ear training works best when you put in your time daily and move on to other things. Get in, get out, and do something else. The earlier in the day you do ear training the better.
