I Charlie makes a logical fallacy when he says this as that argument completely ignores cultural context. Had this happened in America it would certainly be inappropriate because of America's cultural connotation between the tongue and sex. Had this have happened it Tibet it would have been in cultural context and not have been a big deal. The actual video took place in Dharamshala and I am unaware of the specific cultural context there. Further more the suck my tongue line is intended as an idiom and not literally and if you watch this video "Stop Sensationalizing the Dalai Lama's Innocent Interactions: A Tibetan's Perspective" it explain the whole cultural context of the incident.
@@Pcpyrao cultural is no excuse Sometimes cultural things are bad too and people need to accept that Some things about western culture are also bad, we're not saints either I'm not gonna pretend we are A child sucking an adult stranger's tongue is not appropriate no matter the context, whether he actually meant it or not If it was so cultural and normal, the child wouldn't have reacted the way he did Children often have little to no voice in society For you to side with some old religious leader says something about your priorities
@@Knux5577 Look, nobody should have to do anything that makes them uncomfortable. My point was that as I mentioned and sourced earlier what the Dahli Lama did is normal in Tibitan culture and named a video which explains the context for the interaction. My larger issue is that a bunch of people are leeping to conclusions of pedophilia. As I clearly mentioned above that this video does not take place in Tibet but in a place of whose culture I am unaware of and I’m fairly certain your and pretty much everyone else who has commented on the video is unaware of so none of us know whether it was appropriate. As for the child feeling uncomfortable there are many reasons that could be including the large crowd and being addressed to the Dalai. And it’s not like his parents were nowhere to be seen; his mother was on stage. What I’m trying to get at ultimately is that many people are being extremely closed minded about the situations and what is and is not acceptable in other cultures. I’ve seen many people try to justify the point that this is still wrong if it’s cultural by pointing to extreme examples like human sacrifice and child marriages when at the end of the day there is literally nothing sexual about the tongue. A culture could consider hugging to be inappropriate and sexual but that still doesn’t make it wrong unless whoever you hug feels uncomfortable and even then it still doesn’t globally make hugging wrong. All I’m saying is be open minded about other cultures and don’t immediately condemn them because of your own and when you have different cultures faux pas happen like this and that’s really all it was.
I think the grossest excuse for this situation was "It's just a game! They were playing a game with each other". That is literally how tons of predators start and get away with their abuse.
Tibetan monks violate Buddhist scripture on the regular. Self-immolation (Do not harm life, especially your own), hunting for reincarnation (no self-attachments), etc. The Dalai Llama's "leadership" is just a culmination of the corruption. Dude's true colors are finally flying.

@@karmaphuntshok9168 Yeah but not like the Dalai Lama did it. It's a traditional greeting where you essentially show your tongue to someone to prove you're not some old evil 9th century king. It's not to poke your tongue out to make contact. You're like showing as much of the face of it, so it hangs down. What the Dalai Lama did was at best co-opting an existing traditional greeting to get a child to suck his tongue. There is no version of that greeting that I have found anywhere, nor have I found anyone refer to this, in which people suck on each others tongues. The idea is to show your tongue. And the way he stuck his tongue out is NOT the greeting.

See what you’re saying does hold some merit, but let’s play wit that logic for a moment. so in that same situation, would it be reasonable to assume you are an aggressive maniac who just goes around punching whoever ? bc automatically throwing the pedophile jacket on him would kinda be the same thing if he TRULY believed he was just acting in a playful/harmless manner that may or may not be tolerated in said culture. another example, If a little white kid is losing while playing COD online, and he knows he’s not racist, has no prejudice towards another race, but his feelings are hurt and he’s aware of a word that he can say to his opponent that he knows will hurt his feelings, so he decides to call the dude on the other end of the mic the N-word, Now since he said that, did the word coming out his mouth alter the way his brain is wired? Does he automatically hate all black people now? or is he still just the same kid who’s never had a problem with a member of another race who made a decision that he definitely shouldn’t make again? Now look I’m not advocating no weird pedo shit, but what I may look at as weird or sexual in nature, I know other cultures might look at these things in a completely innocent way or different way. So was it the right decision to make and should he be held accountable? Absolutely. But should he automatically get the pedo jacket thrown on him ? There have been numerous reports, going back years, of the rampant abuse of boys in Buddhist and Tibetan monasteries. Apparently the predilection for little boys that many monks have goes all the way to the top. The abused become abusers, and the abuse becomes institutional and normalised, and passed from one generation for the next. Religions have always had a major problem with pedophilia - from Islam to Christianity, and from Buddhism to Hinduism. This is yet more proof that we’re better off without religion. Buddhism is arguably the most benign of all the major world religions, and yet it is still rife with toxicity and abuse. So yes, this sadly is very much is a common part of Tibetan monk culture.
Don't worry, hon. The only ones screaming it's cultural are the far-left progressives who also would get mad at you for not playing a victim based on your race alone. Like I see these accounts on instagram talking about resources for victims of sexual assault but it’s only for women and young girls. I’m not trying to say one is worse than the other but I notice a lot of spaces and resources online specially say for women and with how often we talk about young boys being SA there isn’t a whole lot of activism for it. The dalai lama is a man and like any other man he is susceptible to judgment, although people in this world can get away with things just because they are perceived to be above the law or make the laws. We have to follow Jesus, (Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.” Acts 17:30-31)
Apologetics exist everywhere. Why is bill Clinton still given a platform? Or Hillary after she destroyed the victim knowing the truth -not to mention a bunch of corrupt nonsense while in politics but I'm trying to avoid that. Mike Tyson is a rapist yet he is brought on everyone's shows now, I didn't realize prison was enough to earn your celeb status back after aggravated rape. If this had been the pope or a catholic archbishop, there would be riots and violence. Mindy Kaling has apparently admitted to sexually assaulting some random crew member (kissed him on the lips then just laughed at him and walked away). Then there are the people we know are bad but we act like we can't do anything about it: Russians raping, torturing, using chemical weapons on children. Muslims raping, torturing, all but enslaving women. And people can say its not all Muslims, but there are literally 10s of millions at least behaving this way. We need to stop accepting the norm and treat everyone equally.
And people want this man back in power in Tibet. China may be a horrible authoritarian regime but at least they are bringing infrastructure to the region.
Even if the Dalai Lama really did mean this in a light hearted way, even if he's so senile, tone deaf, and out of touch, it is unacceptable. He's surrounded by a gazillion of staff. Someone's gotta be able to realize that this ain't okay and tell him to not do that.
His staff needs to watch him more closely and he should never be allowed near children. That being said, since he never did anything like this in 87 years, I think this is clearly dementia/alzheimers. I think hes sick and thats not his fault, but he needs a team of care takers. Because the kiss and tongue part are pretty normal in their culture. The request to suck isn't common but it was also pretty clear he had no intention of allowing it to happen. For a guy who has been in the public eye for so long this is a remarkably small amount of controversy to emerge. It's unlikely that he's decided to throw away an entire life's mission and decades of goodwill in order to engage in a very public assault. this is literally western world domination. If there is "global white supremacy" this is it, using western value systems to judge a moment of affection between two people. it wasnt ped0philik. It was playful loving. i dont think ill be able to convince anyone, critical fans are kinda diehard interested in him giving surface level commentary in a monotone voice while he makes dick jokes, and they'll likely side with him. But they can't understand this sort of behavior cause they dont live a thing like the Lama. He is totally socially maladapted, his behaviors would be weird to westerners as much of his time is spent in meditation and in religious service. Not watching gaming videos and staying up to date on twitter. This behavior he displayed emerged from that as something innocent, he didnt see it in a weird light, it wasnt sexual, and from the absolute poverty of our minds, we can't understand this. It's strange to us, ugly, even wicked to many of us. But i assure you to him it was innocent affection. He didn't wish to do anything with the child except share a moment of love with him, and it was physical. This is very different from what hes being accused of
I grew up, and still am, Catholic. I always heard about bad things happening in my church, so when I hear about this stuff happening in other organizations, I can't say I'm surprised. People will always deem others "too good" for crime. They will always say "Oh that happens in X or over in Y, but not here" and then try to excuse it when it does happen. Child abuse happens everywhere power goes. The worst think about this too is that these figures hide themselves from cameras a lot more than others do.
I am not catholic but I live in a heavily christian country and when a case of pedophilia happened the priest in charge (idk how to say it in english) defended the offender priest and when people asked him why did he hide this and why didn’t he remove him from priest duty, the priest in charge said it would ruin his entire life. Imagine that 😂 By doing that he just feeds the newly formed stereotype about priests as pedos who cover for each other. HORRIBLE.
the fact that people truly think this wasnt a creepy ass thing to do is beyond disturbing. Even if this wasnt a little kid, it would still be extremely creepy and disturbing to do something like this.
Well the kiss part wasnt disturbing to me as it is part of our culture, but i can see seppos getting mad about it, if they went hog wild about tom brady. But the tounge joke was weird do doubt
The Dalai Lama is basically nothing but an anti-China rallying flag to Westerners/people in the USA. And those people will go to great length to downplay ANYTHING as long as that thing shows they're "against China." So sadly, I'm not surprised that there are people out there defending it lol.
Pope Benedict XVI, Bulldog of the Church, who defrocked 800 pedophile priests in the span of two years and defrocked every single bishop in the archdiocese of Ireland, would like to know your location
This sounds like it was taken straight out of a Southpark episode. But the fact that this really happened and people are even defending it, worries me.
as a wee-lad i used to go visit my dads restaurant every now and then to just say hi and hangout with him. but there was always this one frycook who "playfully" and "jokingly" touch my nutsack and reach down my pants as a joke whenever i was around him. i was too young to be traumatized and weirded out by it but man i feel bad for the kid and family. i wish the little kid the best
@@yeeehaww69yearsago81 the reason acting on pedophilic urges is a crime is because children can not grasp the severity of these situations, and therefore can not consent, so someone basing how creepy this is on how the child reacted is insane - if a stranger tickled a child, they'd also be laughing, that would still be creepy af and gross. I don't get Rune's point at all.
the dalai lama video you probably watched a 5 sec clip of the thing if u actually cared at all u would bother to see the whole clip the kid asks "can i hug you?" he meant it in a playful manner he kisses people his age and older too if uv even watched a lil bit of his meetings before. His holiness is 87 year old hes a little bit senile he cant even speak english fluently these days and people in the west already have this image of him being a cult leader and famous people in the west have already been in some controversy about pedophilia e.g MJ,r.kelly. The family of the kid and kid himself apologised to his holiness recently for causing all this trouble for him which they shoudnt but you see the respect they have for him surely the media wont show that tho. There is even a whole post interview right after this "incident" where the kid says his holiness was very positive and fun to talk with and he was mad at himself that he coudnt ask the questions properly because he was nervous. Frankly his holiness doesnt care about criticism thats why he apologised to the boy and his family if he caused them any distress , he didnt apologise to the whole world. But as a tibetan i just cant stand his name being thrown around so casually.

They basically said they think this was appropriate and that he commonly does this with people before cameras existed, and so he forgets he can be caught in 4k.
He doesn’t have to do it by calling an innocent man a pedo, tho. Kissing on the lips is totally normal in some parts of the world, and it’s seen a purely a sign of affection. Culture is different in the west and it’s seen as slightly sexual, but in other parts, families kiss on the lips regardless of their sex or age, so what he did wasn’t that bad. And what he did with the tongue thing was kind of weird, but it was a dad joke. It was the equivalent of someone giving you a dollar, and then saying give me a 100 dollars. He knew he wasn’t going to actually suck his tongue, and he wouldn’t have let him. If he was a real pedo, just imagine for a second, why in God’s name would he commit a crime on stage in front of people. You don’t commit crimes in front of audiences, you do it in private so it’s secret - OBVIOUSLY. This was his worst video ever, basically calling a nice old man a pedo
@feefee dee If your going to write this off as a "dad joke" that's just the wrong terminology, this is more of a weird prank that a old guy should not be teasing a young kid to do. And the thing is I bet he didn't feel much of a choice in that moment because of the status
@@gakster it wasn’t a prank. Is it a prank to say “oh I guess it’s free then” when a cash register doesn’t work or any other dad joke you can think of off the top of your head? Those aren’t pranks, and neither was his. He made the boy confused for maybe a couple seconds before laughing about it. You can’t think that in any world he would let a boy such on his tongue while on stage. He’s a celibate monk. He’s never even masturbated once in his life, he probably didn’t register it as even possible to be conceived as sexual when he said that. But if he was a real pedo, he wouldn’t expose himself after a lifetime while on stage in front of people. This video was shockingly ignorant and slanderous
@feefee dee it doesn't matter how the monk felt about it, think about the kid. If I was kid I'd be absolutely disgusted if an idol did that to me. Even If found it was a joke. Not only the kid bit imagine how his parents feel, no parent would want to watch that happen to their kid as a joke either
@@gakster I can imagine how the kid felt, confused, reluctant and worried, then relieved. Nothing nearly as bad to warrant such a negative reaction by people. From a western point of view, imagine someone gave your kid a hug, and then saw a piece of dog poop on the ground and said “if you want Christmas presents you have to eat that” and then paused a second and say “ho ho ho, just joking!”. That is almost the exact western equivalent, neither the boy nor the monk ever registered it as remotely sexual, because the boy was too young, and the monk was too pure. So yes, he made him think he would have to do something gross for a second, but that’s far from a traumatic life moment, if the boy even thought he was serious he could’ve known it was a joke instantly

What a truther
Charlie said it best, "would you be ok if this was your kid?" the answer is no every time
I Charlie makes a logical fallacy when he says this as that argument completely ignores cultural context.

If it was so cultural and normal, the child wouldn't have reacted the way he did

THANK YOU. People seriously have lost sight of this honestly. There's a tribe that eats people, but we ignore it because of "culture." Its so rediclous.
The cultural thing people are referring too is the fact that sticking out your tongue is a greeting in Tibetan and Tibetic cultures.
And the way he stuck his tongue out is NOT the greeting.

yup
I don’t think so atleast with the information at hand, I mean I could be completely wrong but the way I see it there’s a 50/50 chance it was either innocent light hearted fun, or some sick creepy shit, all I’m saying as far as what the internet knows, we don’t know enough to be leaning towards either side, and I just notice that’s very common on the internet, and I 100% whole heartedly feel that in order to completely understand and provide a valid opinion on the matter is by approaching it at all possible angles.

Sad thing is when I DO see someone say anything about male victims it’s a way to try and tear down other groups for women not actually trying to support young boys who go through this.
@@RaspBerryPies thats an astute observation. Its easy to be outraged by monsters and monstrous actions, but when it comes to actually helping the victims of these monsters, theres nowhere near as much focus as there is on the outrage and “bringing justice” aspect.

The dalai lama is a man and like any other man he is susceptible to judgment, although people in this world can get away with things just because they are perceived to be above the law or make the laws. We all have to answer to God one day, and God has given his word to the world but the world does not receive him.
Exactly, they are still human beings, but they are treated as actual deities.
Wtf I thought it just happened..that’s even worse
Honestly I dont think hes in his right mind any longer, and should not be villainized for being sick.
My heart goes out for the child in this horrible situation.
@@Knux5577 Maybe youre misunderstanding, but if he has dementia than hes just not there anymore. Its not like his caretakers can just remind him to not do this, they need to keep a costant eye on him and keep him away from kids and the public eye. Even fathers who would never in a million years act inappropriately can get dementia and do things like grope their daughters or caretakers because theyre just gone. Some illnesses of the brain are very very sad, like imagine loving your family and grandchildren and then getting to a certain age, getting dementia and you dont even realize what you are doing. Something like alzheimers eats away at parts of your brain and you have literal brain damage. You honestly cant be held accountable for your actions at that point, and I think considering the Dalai Lamas past, this is what we are seeing unfold. He is 87 years old. I think the reason people are making excuses is because they are in denial. They don't want to accept that this really happened.
That is most likely the main reason.
You missed an important part, imo. The "Apology" just describes the whole situation as "A child went up to him and wanted a hug", conveniently leaving out the kiss and "suck my tongue" parts.
Subversively suggesting it wouldn’t have happened if the boy hadn’t approached him. So guess it’s the boy’s fault.
its both their faults
Because the kiss and tongue part are pretty normal in their culture.
The request to suck isn't common but it was also pretty clear he had no intention of allowing it to happen.
For a guy who has been in the public eye for so long this is a remarkably small amount of controversy to emerge.
It's unlikely that he's decided to throw away an entire life's mission and decades of goodwill in order to engage in a very public assault.

The worst think about this too is that these figures hide themselves from cameras a lot more than others do.

I am not catholic but I live in a heavily christian country and when a case of pedophilia happened the priest in charge (idk how to say it in english) defended the offender priest and when people asked him why did he hide this and why didn’t he remove him from priest duty, the priest in charge said it would ruin his entire life. the dalai lama video you probably watched a 5 sec clip of the thing if u actually cared at all u would bother to see the whole clip the kid asks "can i hug you?" he meant it in a playful manner he kisses people his age and older too if uv even watched a lil bit of his meetings before.

I mean tibet was literally a slave society before being liberated by the red army. The monks would receive human bone and skin as gifts and have drums made from young girls skin. And pedo behaviour was rampant. The only reason Dalai lama was romanticized is because America needed some anti China propaganda.

They basically said they think this was appropriate and that he commonly does this with people before cameras existed, and so he forgets he can be caught in 4k.
I love how Charlie’s voice always changes into the same “I’m bored now” tone at the end of every video. Iconic
Thank you for speaking out on behalf of those sexually abused as children. You are so valued.
Sneako's gonna come outta nowhere and be like "I understand what he was trying to do!"
