There's a reason why a LOT of the versions I had didn't work, or seemed off. Many of the old versions of the game that I was using were not genuine backups of old Minecraft JAR's. Recently however, I figured out that an absolutely monstrous effort is underway to find and catalog every old version of Minecraft, and they're making sure that these are genuine back-ups. I remember the demo that let you play for 20 mins on the site.
never understood why it got gotten removed.
part of it was the removal of certain plugins that browsers supported, it made it impossible to play it on modern browsers, and it wasn't worth the time to update the engine to work with newer plugins (that's as much as i know, might be other reasons as well)
I remember discovering Minecraft classic, building a giant TNT cube then getting disappointed I couldn't detonate it
I know right? same feel! same with the nether portal...
instead i built some purple woods and glasses xD
Ah... the good old times when you could play Minecraft Classic for free. I loved the custom gamemodes the community created, my personal favorites being lava survival, zombie survival, TNT Wars and normal Sandbox. Good old times. It's a wound in my heart knowing that those surprisingly simple and fun modes are gone forever. Good times don't last very long it seems.
I'll tell ya. It would be nice if you made a video talking about those past gamemodes. Back when you could play Minecraft Classic by simply clicking a button below "buy" or "download" if you had the game. It was a browser game, but the most fun i had back then. Today custom gamemodes look so natural, but back then, it was something new and fun no other game, even the original could give.
RIP Minecraft Classic.

If you Google classicalsharp there is a Minecraft classic community on there and you can connect to zombie survival and lava survival etc like the good old days

I have a confession. I was a huge fan back in the day (2012-2014) but then life got in the way. And I am so sorry for not watching your videos for the past few years. I loved the old content, and I love your current content as well. This channel is really what made me start playing this game. I recommend your channel to everyone who plays this game. Found the channel because of custom map boss fights, stuck around for survival games, now I'm here all the time for Minecraft science and history. This channel has really evolved for the better.

You're one of the main reasons that I found out what Minecraft was back a few years ago (2012 or 2013, I can't remember) and are the longest channel that I've been subbed to. I've loved your content since the first day I saw it, and I can see that you've started really loving it again over the past few months. You can download some versions of the survival test but the only available versions are 0.24 Survival Test_03, 0.25 Survival Test_05 and 0.27 Survival Test from the archive
AntVenom, seriously, your videos last year or something are very impressive.
When you use that music it always fits! Love your channel and it’s one of those channels that is easy to get stuck watching for hours. Keep up the good work. (I was talking about the music in the start of the vid.)

It’s a real shame that most of these aren’t archived. Unfortunately, a lot of these were never even saved by a Notch and as such are gone.
I remember a friend of me introducing me to minecraft when a version (creative style) of minecraft classic was used as a sort of demo.
Ant, if you want EVERY known existing version of Minecraft, just go to the Minecraft version history wiki! they list every .jar, .json, and server files there.
I remember joining these Lava survival servers in Minecraft Classic that you'd used to play on the website and we'd used to team up and build houses to survive the lava flood (because lava spreading in those days were CRAZY)

I think it's a little weird that you could spawn Steves back in the earliest versions of the game lol.

Ander Son Bear in mind, Minecraft from Classic to Beta was basically just testing. The Steve spawning was just resting out things to see if they’d work.
I remember this version.
When I was 6 (7 years ago) , I went to my friends house (who has now moved to Australia) and saw him playing the Demo. We had so much fun with it, and I thought it was so cool! Then we left and I forgot about him and only rediscovered recently.
For some reason this made me feel better when my mom was looking for a dentist for me! :)
Keep up the great work with these new types of videos. These are very interesting and I prefer them over the typical minecraft let's play type videos.
I have the game files for 0.31, you just use the old launcher and edit profile, open your game directory, go to "versions" and drag it in. There's the mobs "Steve, black Steve, and beast boy " and another file of it that has "Rana".
In early versions of classic, you can press G to spawn Steve again.
There's a launcher called ClassiCube. There are Classic servers that you can play on like zombie survival and freebuild

You can still play Minecraft classic (Creative mode) through out this game.
Its called ClassiCube. Im not advertising for it but if someone doesnt have minecraft bought,that person can always play that version and be happy with the people that are on that server.

Ah yes. I remember the days where mc classic was on the site. You'd build stuff to get better ranks with better tools to build more. So simple yet so fun.
there used to be this thing in pocket edition where it you flee up high enough you can walk over the border of the world.all you had to do is well to the border of you are high enough then stop flying I think you can still do it because there is an option to change your world to the old world type

I played Minecraft's first Multiplayer (which was on its site at the time) so much haha, always liked it
Occasionally I'll play some Beta 1.0 just to remind me of the good old days. Then I freak out because there are no beds, sprinting, stackable food, etc. Minecraft is definitely better now than old versions.
I remember playing classic on the website. The memories.
If we ever find a version of minecraft with the fabled herobrine (which we probably NEVER will) then that would be sick!

I still use B to open inventory. I never adjusted away from that. I always changed it from I to B. Only true OGs do that still

I actually remember playing a few of those original ones, don't remember if it was the mobile version or not though.

If I remember correctly there is a version of Minecraft in the launcher thats even earlier
There was only one type of Block, but it changed its texture so that the upper layer was displayed as grass and everything else as stone
he has already covered this before. It was the first version notch made where players could only place cobblestone and there where running steves all over the place. But the first public version ever was 0.0.9a
