    I rebuilt 3 of those gearboxes, my 60 series Sahara, my Brothers Sahara and the other Brother's 40 series.
    They were all noisy in fifth gear, the Koyo input bearing wasn't up to it.
    Replaced them with an upgraded French manufactured bearing back in the late eighties and no more problems.
    These gearboxes don't like heavy towing in fifth, stay in fourth gear were the load is direct through the mainshaft.
    Fifth gear drive is through the counter shaft loading up the bearings.

      Thanks for the info. It's very good to know!
      I was told it was rebuilt and never used. 5th gear is very quite atm. I'm not sure what bearing they used, but I will keep in kind not to use Koyo in the future.

    3min into this video you mentioned a guy called Ian Bushman? Regarding a new top plate that means no chopping the floor. What are his contact details?

      Jump onto the Facebook group '40 series Landcruiser owners' and you will find 'Ian Bushmech'

    I"m adding a 40 series 5 speed to my 1980 FJ40. Having the shifter forward will require modification of the transmission access panel. I cant wait to see what you did.

    Does it need to be engineered?

    • @40ChannelCruiser
      @40ChannelCruiser  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's the same setup that can out in the FJ40 LX. So if you use Toyota like parts and same year models as the LX 5 speed, then no.

    just curious when you pushed the rear part of the transmission side way to make a clearflange distance does this method threaten damaging the back of the engine seal and bearings

    • @40ChannelCruiser
      @40ChannelCruiser  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No, it is moving on the rubber engine and gear mounts. The engine a d gearbox stay as one unit.

    The other thing to watch out for is if the transfer box is vacuum or mechanical and there is a fix for this which I will be making a video on soon

    • @40ChannelCruiser
      @40ChannelCruiser  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine is Mechanical, I stayed from vacuum, I hear there is a work around but haven't looked into it sorry.
