They have a Pro kit that is available in white or black. Also it brings accessories to cut the wire and joint again in a weather protected manner. Also the power supply in the Pro kit is 3 Amp, so you could easily go up to 200 feet. Btw cutting the wires on the lights you already have is not an issue, its a simple 3 wire setup. As of this writing the Pro kit is not on Govee website, but it will be.
You can absolutely cut and spice these, you just need to use weather proof butt connectors and make sure your connections are sealed. They tell you that they don't recommend it because they won't warranty any DIY work that you do on them which is reasonable. Just be sure to stay under the recommended length or you may have power drop and control signal loss. The chances of these lengths being exactly the lengths that you need are incredibly small.
I used some painters tape and taped off the lights themselves and just spray painted the white cord. I ended up being able to color match perfectly so even during the day you can’t see the wires unless you’re REALLY looking and know what you’re looking for.
The larger one is too big so I bought the smaller one and cut off the ring. I used a water seal adhesive and then covered it securely to make sure it doesnt let water in.
You can spray paint the cable, also you can cut the cable, govee will not warranty the lights, but I saw in another channel professional splice the cable and used the extension cord to jump the gaps in your roof
Yep you can def spray paint them just sucks its an extra step and you can absolutely cut the wires after all its just electrical wire but they are pretty expensive so if you do make sure you know what youre doing or you potentially kill a strand.
I just started installing these lights and it took some planning and thinking through all of everything you said. Yes you are correct. You did an amazing job explaining this👌👍👍
Thanks, watched your video and wish I would have used the water proof shield you used vs the silicon seal and heat shrink I used. Would have saved me some time in the heat
Great video man! I've been watching videos all day and you basically brought up all the concerns I had as well. I'd much rather have the Pro version but it's not available on Govee or Amazon at the moment. Maybe I'll wait a little while since we already paid someone to hang our old lights to see if the Pro comes available soon. I'll definitely be looking to get these installed before next year though. To think that these lights would pay for themselves in one Christmas season rather than paying someone every year to hang crappy ones, just makes too much sense not to do. All the demos I've watched today look amazing, yours included. Appreciate the video man!
I think Govee is making great strides with this latest Pro version, but I agree with you about he color options and extension accessories. They're just not there yet for me. I'd also like to see a smaller, all-in-one power supply and controller box. As it is, there are too many boxes and cables to hide. Great, informative video!.
I agree I would love a smaller power supply but based on their other products I dont know if this is coming. All of their power bricks are bulky right now.
Thanks! By far the most informative video on these. Been thinking about buying these for the past year and this is super helpful. By the way I do have white gutters/trim/roofline.
Thanks.. and you are definitely one of the lucky ones then because they will blend with your roofline perfectly. I'm just hoping HOA doesn't have any issues..lol
Totally agree. We should be able to buy accessories ! The new PRO version does allow cutting etc. and comes in BLACK . You did a great job ! Looks great.
Thanks very much for these tips! I ordered one of the extension cables in the larger gauge to extend the existing extension included in my 100 ft kit. Taking careful measurements and planning ahead is definitely a must ;7)
It was a sale on the 50ft at the time of me editing the video.. They are normally priced at 199 so not sure your math adds up here but thanks for checking out the video.
@michaelh45 because he used 3 packs of 50ft each pack was $199 that adds up to over $600 and the 150ft is priced at $400. All you have to do is click the govee link in his discretion
Thank you so much for sharing this video, very informational👍🏼 The lights on your home at around (9:30) and the ones behind you appears to be strips and not individual lights…Can you please confirm that they’re lights and not strips. I love the smooth path it projects without seeing individual lights. Hope I’m making sense lol Tysm😊
Good video. You can easily splice 20/3 gauge wire inbetween sets. I have also cut in-between lights and spliced wire in. Just be careful on the length of the spliced run. Also the wire and light blocks are paint-able.
I agree you can cut these and I did on mine but I dont suggest it since a lot of folks who would be doing something like this prob dont splice wire and if you mess these up you kill the strip. I dont want to be that guy that made someone burn $500. lol I do agree with you though and I know you can paint them you just shouldnt have to at this price. Luckily the pros come in black now so now you have an option.
I'm considering these lights but I could totally build my own. I just need the LEDs that are controlled by an app and make the rest up along the way. When it comes to customization you have to do it yourself anyway. Not every home is the same and these will do the job but not be the best fit for every home. Great review.
Hey man.. great video. Just found and subscribed to this channel. If you are changing the focus to more smart home, can I recommend you do a series on getting the most out of the govee app. It's a feature rich app, but imo not well designed and can be difficult to find things, make and share customized scenarios etc. I think you might find a good audience with some expert guides. Just a thought. Keep up the videos!
The app lets you calibrate it based on what is connected so if you dont use a strand its not a big deal. If you have to cut the end off for some reason though Id just make sure you understand what youre doing or you could mess up your strand and potentially expose it to water when it rains or snows
Very informative video great job! Your honest feedback on that extension cable is so true! I had a gap in my setup and it frustrates me to no end that Govee doesn’t offer other extension cables. For the money I agree this is a great product. I can’t wait for the holidays to have this on all the time 😂.
Good news for us Govee took my feedback and changed the new version of these bad news is we already bought ours and have them up. lol Hope yours look as good as mine and have all the neighbors stopping in front of your house.
I am a professional installer. Things are lights are hands-down, the best in the market. Only issue I have is go. We should make them in black, almond, and or white.
Very informative video. I'm curious what you didn't like about the led light you had previous. I saw that clip in your video. Looked pretty cool to me.
They weren't very bright unless you were standing right under my house. The way my roof is designed you couldn't see the lights from a few houses down.
Great video. Most soffits are not black or dark brown though. White or beige is the most common hence why they sell white. Costco also has a black variant now which would be better in your case.
I was thinking about doing these or eufy but my roof line is the same color as yours. I also measured my roofline as best as I could and it's much longer and more complex than I remembered. I think I'm just going to invest into something else and let another person risk their necks...That along with them warrantying their work.
Just so you know they have come out with another version of these that is black now and they even make cutting them easier. If youre comfortable you could splice them yourself still but def make sure youre comfortable doing it.
Great video, and good information about the lights however, how does the sticky backing of the lights stand up to extreme cold temperatures snow and freezing rain?
Well we haven't had a true freeze yet and the lowest it's gotten so far was 32° F. I can say that they haven't worked fine and stayed up. That said mine are held up with clips every two lights. I'd recommend that no matter what the weather would be.
Both types of outdoor permanent outdoor lights are able to be spliced. Just can’t make long splice jumps. Govee wont cover it. But they can be spliced.
They added a new set that's a Pro version that gives you a bigger led that's brighter and they are black. It's harder to find but they do have black out now. They also allow you to cut and splice them and they come with clips that you slide the wire into without anything else. Best lights I bought so far. Love the way they look.
As of now there's a 200ft pro edition and you can now buy extentions separately. And they have them in black now. Govee is listening. Oh and the newest kits have splicing tools and connections. 😁
Definitely agree they need to come in different colors to match roof line & blend in with soffits. Have you any information on if you take them down to move them for any reason will the adhesive be no good anymore? Thanks!
The new version now comes in black and makes splicing a bit easier. Unfortunately though if you move them it does take away some of the adhesive bond but they provide extra 3m so you could move a few and add additional adhesive. Ill say this though dont depend on the 3m alone to keep them on your roof. Make sure you add a secure clip every 2 lights min to keep them from coming down over time.
2 questions, I have 5 breaks on a 150ft set. The extension cords you mentioned would total less than 20ft. Will I need to remove a set of lights to make it power correctly? Is there a tool I can buy to cut and splice? Is there a video to help with this? Thanks your video really helped me a lot.
So there is some wiggle room here but the lights themselves is what I meant. If you had for example 200ft worth of lights and tried to connect that last 50 to the same power supply the last 50 would affect them all reducing the brightness and creating a flicker. You can def extend your 150 on a single power supply making the total distance including extensions more then 150ft
GREAT VIDEO!!! Well organized, presented and VERY helpful! Yours is the first video that addresses the issue that bothers me most - the wire color. My wife would kill me if I put white wire on our roof line. I'm toying with the idea of painting the wire. Thank you for this content.
They probably don't sell them or didn't at the time because they are ordered from China and their orders only consisted of what you received. I'm willing to bet, they will start offering the extensions if they get enough people who want them. Also, they most likely put in large orders of each product. Maybe 1000 units at a time. They can negotiate with the manufacturer for orders, color changes, extensions etc. But again, they won't put in orders if minimal people want them.
They made some smart changes in the pro version but imo they should have offered it right out the gates considering how many people might try to extend and splice these.
I added an outlet to my roof line for Christmas lights a while back but you can splice them into the attic and plug them in there too. Just make sure you seal the hole around it with some kind of sealant
Great video I have 4 sets of lights How do I group a set of Lights together so I could control two or more stings at a time at once rather that having Change each sting of lights individually? Also what setting you use to get the light to run like that from 0:54 in your video ? Thanks
Im not sure exactly which scene that was at that time stamp but to answer your other question if you go to home and scroll down you will see Group. Put all of the lights in a group then you can control them all at the same time. You can also use automation to set them all to a scene at a certain time
so the ones that come with them will work but instead of trying to use those tine screws I would use a small nail from a nail gun. If you dont have a nail gun then you would have to use your hammer and nail.
In the comments I've wrote you can cut them and I've cut mine. People who don't splice won't feel comfortable doing it. You can say it's EASY but for someone who isn't familiar cutting and creating a water seal again may not be. Thanks for your comment though.
@@aztecghost9058you’re absolutely right brother. I have a ‘keepin up with the Jones’ type of neighbor who went out and picked some up a few days after I installed mine. A couple of days into his install I had my 32ft ladder against his house splicing for him…
Every time when holiday is just a few months away I always choose cheaper outdoor permanent light🤩 and holiday decorative light but with same effect😶🌫.
To be fair you can splice if you feel comfortable doing it. I just don't want to recommend it since they are so expensive and one mess up could kill the string.
Thanks for this. I decided not to buy Govee simply because they don't sell needed accessories. Not sure what their strategy is, but I'm not playing that game.
so ive come to find out this verys based on the look. You can place them wherever but you should prob have someone look from a distance and see how they look first before deciding.
Nice and fair review on Govee nights. Really give me more insight before I decide to purchase them. Can you share how you can stick the heavy adapter on roof?
Oh man that sucks sorry ... Ive had one come loose since I did them but it was the one spot where I skipped 4 lights before using a clip. Once I added a clip between that 4 I havent had any issues.
I initially bought the 100 foot govee permanent outdoor light thinking i can just do the front and some on the side. Well they work great but now the wife wants to cover the other side of rhw house with a additional 50 ft. What do i need to do to make this 100 ft able to light up an additional 50 ft.
Honestly it should work off the one power supply if you connect the new 50 to the end of the 100 run. If you have to connect them separately though you can group them in the app to make life easier.
Govee Pro just released an they are black and upgraded. My roof is white so I went with the old white ones. The new ones "pro" are a slight upgrade but not worth the extra $100 bucks, you can cut and splice them together, guess Govee was listening.
Yep the new ones basically address everything I thought should be changed but if you're comfortable splicing and have a white roof then the old ones are just fine.
Can you use only the white lights for the RGBIC 150ft box that is $459? I installed 80% of the lights on my house so far. I bought these lights so I can run the white lights during non holiday months. Thanks
You can run them how you want on a schedule. I have mine on a warm white 30% until a certain time then a automation to turn them to christmas until 11:30 and then back to a warm white the rest of the night.
Hi! Great info. I just bought these and I actually have an outlet in the ceiling of my porch. Is the power brick and control weather proof?? Thank you!
I really need a comparison of GE Cync Direct connect RGB strip lights VS GE Cync Dynamic Effects RGB strip lights because they are the same price and lengths.
Sorry if its been asked already. My roof line is also pretty complex and I will need about 250' and habe to work outward 2 directions from the center of my home. Will I be able to synch them properly as I will essentially have 2 strands going in opposite directions. Thanks
So most of the scenes are fluid and move around a lot so it will look more like designed then like 2 separate strands. The app will let you group them meaning you can change them at the same time but as far as a true sync where it combines the two and makes one design across both strands no
Absolutely.. I found out the hard way and had to really plan where I started a string so I didn't have a huge gap at the end of sections. Glad it helped.
The ones behind me are the M1s from Govee and besides 16.4ft being 99 bucks I wouldnt recommend them on your house. You could do the Phantasy pro lights govee has they are just a straight strip or you could DIY your home lights. DIY can get pricey depending on what gear you already have or dont.
@@aztecghost9058 wow yea that’s why I thought they were different, I’ve been searching for my basement, I went with some cheap junk ones and I hate them
Double sided 3m Tape then I add two brackets to each side of the power supply. Depending on your roof you may want to get some stronger brackets then what they provide but if you do use theirs Id recommend gettting a longer screw that fits so they dont fall or loosen over time.
is there a way to find an extension cable and the powerbox that supports the Elite version from Costco. our electrician made a mistake while installing.
Great video. Govee is really dropping the ball with these lights. The pro version is great in that you can cut them but why should I have to spend more money for that? Same thing with the color wire. Then the extensions. They want it DIY but it really isn’t DIY unless you have a 50, 100, or 150 foot continuous run of a roofline. These lights would make my life a lot easier but I’m still deciding how involved I want to get or if I’m going to ship them back.
Understand this fully. I will say this though I cut mine and painted the wires all before the pro version came out and I dont feel like upgrading is worth it. If you put some extra time in and cut the old ones and paint them to match your roof you only need to do it once for days of entertainment. I turn my lights on for football games, parties, holidays, etc. but it took some time to complete everything.
Amazing video with great info! One question I had, when you added the second section with its own power, how was it connected to the first 100ft? Basically I'm wondering if you were able to have the effects and the app see the whole set up as one continuous 200ft run.
I grouped them so when I turn them on, change the color or scene they all change. They run the scenes independent of each other so they arent sync'd but it honestly looks designed if you split the run nicely.
@@aztecghost9058 ah that makes sense. I have two 100ft sets. Do you know if I take one segment from one set and just add it to the other one, will the app accept the additional leds in that set? Up to 150 ft at least
Great info. Are these controlled by bluetooth or WiFi? Is the antenna in the power adapter? I saw another video where these are always on and you cant turn them off unless you press the power button on the power adapter. Is this true or can you turn them off and on from the app? Thank you.
It took time for me to get use to the come coming from the strip lights but the brightness difference made up for it to me and my soffit blocks a good amount. There are ways to diffuse though but it's a lot of work and could get pricey
Side note if you do something similar make sure your silicon doesnt get on the pins of the cable and if it does dont use that cable to connect to the govee string
Great video. Thank you for your comments and insight. Im at the point in my life I cant keep climbing on our roof to put up lights. This is a great solution. Does anyone have any experience with putting these up on vinyl siding? Our eves have vinyl siding and not sure how well the 3M stickers will adhere to it.
Thanks for the detailed video. I bought some of these excited. I did the same, got 150 ft kit, then a 50 ft kit. Question If may, did you run the lights the same direction or does it even matter? I'm splitting the kits to 100 ft per control box but not sure if I need to run the same direction for syncing purposes.
They will sync by grouping them but not with the pattern. Id say the best look is splitting half one way and the other half the other. It gives it design that looks intentional but your preference really.
They have a Pro kit that is available in white or black. Also it brings accessories to cut the wire and joint again in a weather protected manner. I saw this came out and it does appear to be a much needed upgrade and it looks like they listened to the community which is a GREAT sign.
The Pro kit is finally on Govee site, but at $400 seem a bit expensive. 🤔
My roof line is white. I have a farmhouse lol
@leonlelsway, can you please post the link here to the black version? I don't seem to find it in Amazon Canada. Is it maybe only available in the US?

for the 3 pin extension cord has 2 sizes , small or large

GREAT VIDEO!!! Well organized, presented and VERY helpful! Yours is the first video that addresses the issue that bothers me most - the wire color. My wife would kill me if I put white wire on our roof line. I'm toying with the idea of painting the wire. Thank you for this content.
Yea mine wasnt a fan either but I painted them to match my roof just extra steps I wish I didnt have to take
@@aztecghost9058 I just found out that on Oct 16, Govee will release an updated version with black wires and more capability.
I looked at them. May still put them on a smaller area or something, but I ended up going with Jellyfish.
They made some smart changes in the pro version but imo they should have offered it right out the gates considering how many people might try to extend and splice these.
te agradesco de todo corazon por tu contenido, me ahorraste mucho dinero, gracias nuevamente
Great vid. Bought mine but having trouble figuring out where people are getting power to the lights. Are yours plugged in in the attic
I added an outlet to my roof line for Christmas lights a while back but you can splice them into the attic and plug them in there too. Just make sure you seal the hole around it with some kind of sealant
Great video
I have 4 sets of lights
How do I group a set of Lights together so I could control two or more stings at a time at once rather that having Change each sting of lights individually?
Also what setting you use to get the light to run like that from 0:54 in your video ?
Thanks
Im not sure exactly which scene that was at that time stamp but to answer your other question if you go to home and scroll down you will see Group. Put all of the lights in a group then you can control them all at the same time. You can also use automation to set them all to a scene at a certain time
Thank for the video!
I just buy them, but can you show what extra brackets do u use?
Again ty 4 the video!
so the ones that come with them will work but instead of trying to use those tine screws I would use a small nail from a nail gun. If you dont have a nail gun then you would have to use your hammer and nail.
Great advice! Lighting effects looks great
Awesome review man! You rock
I don't understand your constant comment about not cutting the lights, you can EASILY cut them. They work fine.
A couple of days into his install I had my 32ft ladder against his house splicing for him…
Do they plug into each other from one power source, or does every set need to plug into a new power block?
you can string them together up to 150ft. After that you risk power drop off and flickering
I think this effect are absolutely fascinating but the product is too expensive.
Every time when holiday is just a few months away I always choose cheaper outdoor permanent light🤩 and holiday decorative light but with same effect😶🌫.
May you can choose us as your fixed supplier and we will offer you the appropriate holiday lighting solution at this account.
Huge help. I’ve been on the fence because of the inability to splice. My roofline has three peaks.
To be fair you can splice if you feel comfortable doing it. I just don't want to recommend it since they are so expensive and one mess up could kill the string.
Would these be cool on your backyard fence? 100ft would be perfect for my entire back fence and connect to an outdoor outlet
Corny or cool?
Thanks for this. I decided not to buy Govee simply because they don't sell needed accessories. Not sure what their strategy is, but I'm not playing that game.
My run ran short. Had to get a 16.4ft extension (lights) to finish the run. Other than that, super happy how things came out
Where did you purchase the extension?? And what's the name of the extention
Great video! Best one on Govee I’ve seen. I have a question for you. Can you sync a 150 ft and a 32 ft from different outlets?
Thank you.. You can group them in the app so if you change one it will change both.
What's the best / recommended space of mounting in the soffit space? Should they be placed closer to the wall vs. gable/rake?
so ive come to find out this verys based on the look. You can place them wherever but you should prob have someone look from a distance and see how they look first before deciding.
Nice and fair review on Govee nights. Really give me more insight before I decide to purchase them. Can you share how you can stick the heavy adapter on roof?
Sure I used 3m tape plus metal clamps on each side screwed into the roof. The combination of both means it will never move.
Great review…I appreciate it…I’m going to buy it and let you know how it turns out.
You will love the way they look
How long are the extensions? Plug in to 1st light?
The extension cables are 6 feet each
Great video and very helpful, thanks so much
Spray paint the wires to match or come close to matching your roof
Yep Ive done this its just an extra step though if you want that clean look.
Great video. Mine keep falling off the 3m tape not working On mine sofi
Oh man that sucks sorry ... Ive had one come loose since I did them but it was the one spot where I skipped 4 lights before using a clip. Once I added a clip between that 4 I havent had any issues.
great video man, clear and precise
👊🏾
Thanks for the info, this is helpful.
@aztecghost9058 do you have the first gen lights or the PRO ones?
@@paulmaestas8709 first gen but if youre thinking about getting them Id def look at the pro version
So would you recommend spray painting the cables or would the paint somehow ruin it?
Def paint them so they blend if you care. I went back and painted all mine to color match the area.
How many feet of line did you put up for your lights?
Very good video!😊
Hi! Great info. I just bought these and I actually have an outlet in the ceiling of my porch. Is the power brick and control weather proof?? Thank you!
Yes you are good to go with both. Mine have already been tested.
I really need a comparison of GE Cync Direct connect RGB strip lights VS GE Cync Dynamic Effects RGB strip lights because they are the same price and lengths.
Dang the new one that drops tomorrow are available in black!😊
Yep the pro version addresses any concerns I had.
@@aztecghost9058 and they are OOS :D
Sorry if its been asked already. My roof line is also pretty complex and I will need about 250' and habe to work outward 2 directions from the center of my home. Will I be able to synch them properly as I will essentially have 2 strands going in opposite directions. Thanks
So most of the scenes are fluid and move around a lot so it will look more like designed then like 2 separate strands. The app will let you group them meaning you can change them at the same time but as far as a true sync where it combines the two and makes one design across both strands no
Are the scenes you shared custom or are they preset in the app?
They were the preset ones in the app. I created a YT short showing all of them in case there was one you are looking for.
Good info, thanks!
Thanks for explaining about the lengths. No one else does! Including Govee…
Absolutely.. I found out the hard way and had to really plan where I started a string so I didn't have a huge gap at the end of sections. Glad it helped.
Is there a way to use the lights that you had behind you in the video on the house? I like those better just one solid line.
You can hide wire behind j-channel and drill holes but also an extra layer of time
Yep but still a good idea for something they call permanent.
what are the seemless lights that are on your house at the end of the video????
If you mean the DIY lights I had up before they were custom done with IP67 rated light stripes and an esp board.
Great review! Those reason stopped me to buy them yet! My roof is brown and white will look bad on me!
Very informative! Thank you
What lights are behind you?
Those are the Govee M1 strip lights. I'm using a curved deep channel to remove the led dots you normally see
@@aztecghost9058 wow yea that’s why I thought they were different, I’ve been searching for my basement, I went with some cheap junk ones and I hate them
Thank you for sharing 🙌🏼🙌🏼 just ordered mine… how did you mount the white box?
Double sided 3m Tape then I add two brackets to each side of the power supply. Depending on your roof you may want to get some stronger brackets then what they provide but if you do use theirs Id recommend gettting a longer screw that fits so they dont fall or loosen over time.
@@aztecghost9058 you’re the man!! Thank you for sharing
is there a way to find an extension cable and the powerbox that supports the Elite version from Costco. our electrician made a mistake while installing.
I turn my lights on for football games, parties, holidays, etc. but it took some time to complete everything.
you can cut the non pro ones as well no problem.
Thank you.
These are controlled by app or routines. Mine are also voice controlled with groups in Alexa app. I never have to touch them
my biggest pet peeve is that they are not in black. Can you spray paint them ?
Yes you can I actually did this to mine and they look great. You can still see the white square but its still better
I’m sure you’ve seen by now that Govee has released a black Pro kit
I did and it looks like they addressed all of my concerns and increased the price ha
Hey bro what is the setting on your desk behind you throwing that light across the light bar?
They are the Govee M1s and the scene is meteor
I really want these over the outdoor striplights... But I dont' like the cone light shape. Im trying to find a way to diffuse these better.
It took time for me to get use to the come coming from the strip lights but the brightness difference made up for it to me and my soffit blocks a good amount. There are ways to diffuse though but it's a lot of work and could get pricey
Thanks very much for these tips
On the 3rd party extension cables you used are you able to make them weathertight ?
Yes so what I did was seal them with silicon and a heat shrink. Ive done this before with LED lights on the roof and its worked perfectly
I would say no matter what you're sticking these on you will end up having to reinforce them with clips but the 3m will stick to vinyl.
possible voltage drop extending the cable
Good info. I signed up. Keep it coming
Dang, I’d just paint over the wires the same as the trim. Stupid they wouldn’t get you another extension.
