The irony of the whole "Pilgrims and Natives gathering together in peace and harmony" is that the "first Thanksgiving" wasn't even about that. It was basically just a ceasefire while the two groups figured out how to move forward with their interactions. So technically the meaning of Thanksgiving was "let's grudgingly gather our families together and try to not kill each other for five minutes." Makes sense. 😂
Side note: I had that Bubba toy and I assure you it was just as outrageous and strange as it looks in the commercials. 😂

I like how the pilgrim boy and native boy were both parented by a squirrel which I did not expect and also when the start of the video where they were eating the thanksgiving food fast. The tv commercials are so nostalgicly phenomenal.

There are a few other Thanksgiving specials I remember: Daffy Duck's Thanks-For-Giving Special (one of those Looney Tunes compilation shows), The Mouse On The Mayflower from Rankin-Bass (traditionally animated), and Dorothy In The Land Of Oz (loosely based on elements from later Oz books, and taking place at Thanksgiving--some later airings retitled it Thanksgiving In Oz).

Having Phil Hartman announce the bumper is 1) Really haunting, as this was probably 1998, and the first Thanksgiving he would not be around for 2) Evidence that even Cartoon Network knew this was kitsch.
Yeah, our reckoning with settler colonies has really made Thanksgiving a bare bones affair and bereft of themed programming. What's interesting is, even though Nativity works are sometimes controversial because the of the "religion vs secular" battle, it's actually a very interesting setting in its own right (And the colonizers are the Romans).
I don't do anything for thanksgiving. But i do say happy thanksgiving to my friends, as its still something nice to say.

This movie is actually from 1972. Which explains why the animation and music sounds so old, and why they’re pushing that “buddy buddy” Thanksgiving narrative.

Not to mention a few AUS tv shows/movies that was going to plan on watching, but YT blocked or taken down in Australia making things difficult i.e Lightning Point or Worst Year of My Life, Again etc. Yeah i'm not having much luck lately.

Just a minor correction, that wrestling promo was for World Championship Wrestling (WCW), which was owned by Ted Turner/Time Warner.
The promotion was doing very poorly from late 1999-early 2001, and then the AOL/Time Warner merger happened. And the new CEO didn't want wrestling, so they sold the company to WWE.
I miss WCW.

Funny I just happened to see this cartoon as I'd never heard of it. I grew up with The Mouse and the Mayflower, which if you can believe it, is wayyy worse.

native child: "you!"
pilgrim child: "you!"
native child: "you scared off my turkey!"
pilgrim child: "that was me! I thought you were a turkey."
native child: "if you were any kind of a hunter, you would know that it was only a turkey call."

Yeah, Australia doesn't really do Thanksgiving. Idk why we don't do it though.
Currently & planned shows: Strangers (1989) which is one of two New Zealand tv shows i'm watching from the 80s, the other being afterwards is the 1985 tv adaptation of Terry and the Gunrunners, then possibly Animalia (another based on a book series) from 2007 & it's Australian btw. Then proper rewatches of shows i have watched, but i haven't all of it or not seen enough i.e Parallax, Silversun, H2O & Lightning Point.
As for the rest, i'm still unsure of lately, this is before i even suggest them or not after watching as they are on YT or some other sites that are available on. Though i'm annoyed with Netflix making AUS tv shows or movies leaving on the platform in this specific date & idk if any other streaming services do this often.

I think it said "1971 Hanna-Barbera" under the title.
Yeah I did some research and found out that it aired in 1972 for the first time, but says 1971 in the credits.
