I screwed up and was using faulty hardware. After switching to an M.2 SSD, everything started working as hoped!: th-cam.com/video/hvf--KzuBEM/w-d-xo.html
Glad you sorted that. I just did a quick test on my new this week 8gigger and usb boot on an SSD into Raspios-buster-arm64 is 30sec and same internet speed as my desktop PC.
Loved it. Db if you can put together a how to guide for nextcloud running with traefik ( both has there own docker container) on raspberry pi 4 that will be much appreciated.
can not get my pi 4 conet to wifi or ethernet i don`t know why and i am no good at code a freind sed something about a MAC filter ? blocking it why dos no one talk about this ?
I can almost 100% guarantee that you aren't being MAC filtered unless whoever setup your network has only allowed certain MAC addresses to connect, but this is almost never the case.
since raspberry pi 4 can boot from ssd it is my day 2 day machine. already few installed at home - 1 as DACs, 1 as media server/plex and 1 as network streamer - I am super happy with them but microSD was a blocker. thank you for your nice videos
(normal) USB-drives don't really improve performance. Use an external SSD (Samsung T-series for instance or even better an external enclosure with your favorite brand SSD). It's not only faster but less prone to corruption than an SD-card.
@@DBTechYT Yeah, some USB-sticks can be even worse. I have a old Sandisk Cruzer 32GB and it boots up in 30 secs too, same as my Samsung SD card. When I switched to an external case ($7 on AliExpress) with WD SSD things got much faster.
Thank you my pi 8 gig was telling me it was update but I still follow your tutorial and it turns out it wasn't up to date now it works great my problem was some img would not boot up it would ask for update thanks
Thanks for posting the follow up. I actually have that exact same Kingston USB 3.0 and might have run into the same issue. Good excuse to go M.2 (or SSD) ;)
Depends greatly which USB stick you use. If you use a USB thumbdrive that supports USB3.1 superspeed 5Gbps then ya, the thumbdrive will be a LOT faster than the fasted micro SD card ever could. The RPi4 supports USB3.1. As it so happens, I have a 64GB Samsung USB thumbdrive I'm trying to use as my main drive but it's not working. My issue is entirely unrelated to the contents of this video.
A better raspberry *22/7* puts all I/O along a long edge, with GPIO on a short edge. A baller heatsink is standard, with 19v barrel jack power supply. OK, it may cost more than $75.

@@DBTechYT ok then what may it be
@@DBTechYT got it to work now thanks
I write the image to usb, be it a thumb drive or ssd and it boot fine, no extra files or anything

The SD card booted in 30ish seconds. The USB took 3 minutes to boot. It was MUCH slower

Might give that a try and see what happens

there is a bootloader called berryboot that will also work with a usb but you still need the micro sd card

Please do a double hop vpn gateway for the rpi4, I would love a good guide to a server on a stick for my roku with openvpn
great unboxing video, great sharing!
CanaKit is a good company i had a faulty hdmi cable and they sent me the double cable pack they sell for free to replace it
the gain in speed is when you use ssd ! usb sticks wont go faster than the sd card
