In November 2020 I got Covid and spent most of 2021 just getting back. It was a struggle and depressing. Somehow I got through it and I am feeling stronger now than ever, may have just being stubborn and persistent getting past everything. Hope you pull through quickly! Love your videos!
You know your video's keep me sane during the Winter. I Love them all. I do miss the Crit racing. I go back to those ones on occasion. As far as "Snot-Rocketing", Yes I do do it but when I am riding alone and 9 times out of 10 I wear it on my shoulders. 🤣
OK I'm new to this biking thing and at 71 I hope you can teach a old dog new trucks. I just found you channel and have been binge watching a little and learning lots. Not knowing what bike I needed, over the winter I purchased a giant roam 2, now realized it should have been a gravel bike I'll make do for now and see how it goes. I find you energetic, amusing and knowledgeable. I'll ride along for now and try to minic what I can.
Amazing you passed my area. Been watching your videos for 2 years. I just bought a new house right on edge of Darnley Dams area you rode through. Great stuff it's good for riding I can hit gravel in 30 seconds from my door. Then have access to country lanes and more gravel for miles. Love it. Hope you enjoyed and visit again.
In the western USA we call it a “farmer blow” and is done usually by ones self. Maybe with another farmer or family member within ear snot yet almost always when alone. I saw a few in a long distance running event for sure. Thanks for the video.
You should certainly come back, for the culture and the night life. The road rides north and south are wonderful. Almost every ride I have goes through that park. So cool to see. Let me know if you need any recommendations.
Definitely come back to Glasgow! Great city, food and culture second to none! Gravelfoyle has great rides and amazing scenery...shame you missed it this time.
I've been a snot sniffer for most of my cycling career but I must say recently I've taken the leap to give snot rockets a go. Sometimes they are really successful and stop the dang sniffing! I wouldn't do it in a group without announcing and clearing the way for it
Juliet, I had Omicron about a month ago, just under. My symptoms were super mild (a fever for 12 hours, that was it!) but Monday February 7th (my 49th birthday) I woke up with a weird heart rhythm and went and got an EKG (ECG in the UK) and I had PVC. 6 hours later it corrected itself and my blood work was perfect, my echocardiogram was perfect, but they were checking heart for effects from covid. I rode 365 days last year and topped it off with January 1st to make it 366, so I'm in great shape. I hope your health after covid is well and lets hope we ALL get past this soon! And about snot rockets.......they're also called farmers blow, football (soccer) rockets (played for 41 years) and I've been doing them forever and still do them today. Sorry to disappoint! Cheers! :)
Trust the coach. You'll be back on form for sure! All the best! I can't do snot rockets. Not just because disgusting, but my snot doesn't clump for it. I try to carry a rag instead. But I generally forget, so I wipe with my gloves.
I'm sure Gavin is watching, very sure... Glad you enjoyed it, looks like you got to experience a bit of "Glasgow" weather too. There's so much riding around Glasgow, we're very lucky in that regard. Definitely come back if you can, April/May has recently been decent weather and it's early enough you'll avoid the worst of the midges!
Recovery can take a while and feel like it will never end, but you are strong and May is plenty of time to regain strength. Hang in there and as you said, trust the process. You’ve got this!
Keep fighting your way back, you will get there! You said it yourself: trust the process, trust your coach and trust your body. I would just add, take it one day at a time and be happy for the small gains. They stack up quickly. Thanks for another video, we appreciate you!
Oh you know what Juliet, you will get there! Sometimes the best of results can be achieved through resting, not working out; if you wanna go fast, than you've got to go slow, that's what they say 😄🙂 So wish you a solid nap, just after a nibble at that pizza you were mentioning about, it is always time for pizza isn't it ? Down there, it is 🇮🇹🌞 🍕
I generally ride solo or alongside someone, snot rockets only seem to be a problem for the silent chupa ruedas. Top tip, don't creep up on someone and hold their wheel without introducing yourself unless you're happy being on the receiving end of a snot rocket.
Growing up a runny nose kid in sports I learned proper snot rocket etiquette early. Riding MTB I'm upright enough to usually just sniff the drip away but riding a gravel bike with drop bars I'm too leaned over and there's no stopping the flow, so snot rocket it is. All ya gotta do is drop to the back of the group, turn your head away from the group and blast away. Oh, and don't forget to check behind you.
Snot rockets... I'll blow them when I'm riding solo (most of the time) and there's nobody else around. If I'm in a group or there's strangers around then defo not. Hope you get back to 100% asap!
Next time you're in Glasgow, ride along the Fourth and Clyde canal to the Kelpies. Alternatively head out to Loch Lomond if you just want a short ride.
there is a very developed snot rocket etiquette one needs to be aware of. 1. no collateral damage and 2. not in the vicinity of pedestrians (extra points for being out of sight)
My take on it, if I am riding with others you'll never see me launch a snot rocket. And if I riding alone more likely to just clear my throat and spit! Be interesting to know how many people have caught long covid the last couple of years, I too have felt pretty fatigued this Winter after distances which I would I normally arrive back home waiting to go again the next day. All the best!
A jogger wearing headphones snot rocketed on my arm as I cycled past him back during the first covid lockdown. He was running in the middle of the road. Not big or clever. At least check and do it responsibly. Hopefully you will bounce back soon Juliet 💪👍
No way!!!!…Cant believe you were cutting about the river Clyde, Pollok Park , Barrhead Dams, Giffnock & Pollokshields! Next time you should venture up to Eaglesham and Whitelee wind farm.
hi Juliet, what is the little black bag that you have on your handlebars? It looks really handy for quick access to things. Be interested to know where you got it please.
Snot rockets :) Depends on context, if Im on my own in the middle of nowhere then its a yes. In a group or near other people then I'm with you, its just not right.....
Positive end of November 21, took a month off, FTP down from 255 to 210, I'm also wondering how long it's going to take me to get back to previous levels, slow and steady I guess, you can't force the process.
Snot rockets - speed inflames the mucosal membranes, and the nose is pointing the wrong way, so something must be done. But, absolutely only when there is no-one behind.
Brilliant. I don't want to be rude but older cyclists like us (I'm the wrong side of 40 too) find enjoyment in different things. I'm never going to get a King of the Hill again and I don't give a flying fark. But I will ride my favourite routes and visit my favourite pubs and smile every km I ride.
road cycling with other people I sniff...dont want to hit anyone in the face with snot. Gravel and Mtb in the middle of nowhere I snot rocket away. It's totally disgusting, I agree. But it's the truth!! I just try and be aware of my surroundings and if it feels appropriate to do.
Snot rockets? that's a new expression to me. l used to be in the Army and after about a week living on a tank while on exercise we were covered in oil, diesel and dirt, nobody took a hanky with them and the "snot rocket" technique was used all the time, however, we would never do that sort of thing in front of civilians and it isn't something l would do now in public.
My nose gets pretty runny, especially when it is below 10 degrees celcius. I'd fully load up a hanky in about half an hour tops so that's not feasible for me. But, I always take care as to where I send the rockets (mostly aiming for the bushes or spots where you can't walk over it, and never when people are close, especially non-cyclists). In addition (edit), (long-)covid is no joke, take your time, don't over-stress your body and regret it in the end.
Not wrong about fitness, I seem to be stuck in a rut too with fitness but ... last few rides have improved slightly but not much. short days/crap weather arrrggghh chin up Springs almost here.
Glasgow is way better than it was in the past decades and I reckon it will be one the cool city even over Edinburgh. The pandemic made me unanimous in that matter. And yes that is a Mrs. Slocomb reference.
I stop in a discreet place to clear my "nostrils". I can't even bring myself to do it at intersections...even when I'm riding by myself. I'll usually go behind a bathroom or stop in a quiet stretch where there's trees and blind spots. Obviously, I agree, it's gross. However, it really works and beats carrying a nasty cloth or tissue. Those inevitably get wet with sweat...and snot...ugh!

I'm with you regarding the snot rockets... DISGUSTING!!!! Especially riding with selfish people who take no care in unloading and you end up having to perform a fighter pilot type evasive manoeuvre to miss the incoming projectile or you end up wearing it like a brooch 😖
