Altergeist truther here. There is one potential use for Haunted Rock that enables a quick OTK combo that ends on Hextia pointing to Memorygant specifically because you can flip Haunted Rock the turn it was set by Marionetter. I'm not saying it's optimal or anything because drawing Haunted Rock is the worst feeling in the world, but it's there. The combo is: Activate trap on opponent's turn, summon Multifaker Multifaker summon Melussek On your turn, link both off for Hextia Meluseek search Pookuery Link Pook + Hextia into Primebanshee Chain 1 Hextia, chain 2 Pook so you can chainblock the search Hextia adds Marionetter to hand Summon Marionetter, setting Haunted Rock, then activating it by discarding the Pook Marionetter sends Haunted Rock to revive Hextia Link Marionetter and Primebanshee into Memorygant so it's being pointed to by Hextia (adding multifaker to hand with Primebanshee for next turn, just in case) This'll give you a memorygant and a Hextia with a buttload of attack, so you can attack with Hextia, then attack with Memorygant tributing the Hextia to gain a truly absurd amount of attack points.
Nova's opinion on Altergeist: "Oh I hate that deck. But that doesn't change the fact that it is a formidable adversary. I respect it, but I don't have to like it." -Eggman.
The opening reminds me a big of Brentalfloss' opening to his "What is the Water Levels from Super Mario 64 had Lyrics" video, where he puts out a Twitter poll, and goes "That was the control! You guys weren't supposed to pick that!"
Don’t worry, Nova. You’re not alone with your hate for this deck. I physically hissed when Silquitous popped up, and I very much agree with your thoughts on Multifaker.
I was aware that Silq-Manifestation was a combo of sorts, but I'd thought it was for being able to trigger floating effects on demand while recycling the Manifestation; e.g. bring back Meluseek to float it when the trap gets bounced, or res Silq then bounce Manifestation for the compluse, popping Silq to float into adding another trap in gy to hand. Didn't know there was a rules interaction allowed for keeping the monster you bring back, that's cool. Personally I like Altergeist quite a lot. As control strategies (that I'm aware of) go they're rather active without needing a big turn 1 combo; of course you can play them with some of the worst floodgates in the game like you said thanks to protocol, though that's hardly a unique sin. Looking at playing mainly the in-theme cards, they bounce around between basically everywhere except the banish zone pretty often, and they're very capable of not just negating but dodging effects/ attacks thanks to Silq & Spoofing, which adds to the "ghost" flavour. They feel very responsive to play and tend to have pretty fun choices to make on both turns. Fun for the Altergeist player of course. That said I cannot fault anyone for having a distain for playing against them. Control/ stun is typically what you're aiming for with Altergeist and that means restricting your opponent's ability to play their deck, preferably at all. From the other side of the table I dislike getting shut out of the game as much as anyone else, so I can certainly understand; Altergeist lets the user play a lot of yugioh, but if it's successful then it's preventing the opponent from playing any yugioh. People playing yugioh tend to want to actively play yugioh, so going against decks that stop them playing is rather frustrating. Altergeist are very good at doing this sort of thing, but I don't think this is really an Altergeist-specific issue, or even control/ stun-specific since any deck that can set up a board that functionally turns your hand into a brick can produce the same effect (the end goal for a lot of combo decks is to end on big bodies with negates or that are basically untouchable, so either you find a way to break that board, wall up all you can, or you simply lose).
Gotta agree. My bones may rattle at the sight of 'em, but when someone puts so much effort and accomplishes so much with it, it's hard to not give credit when credit is due.
I’m sorry Nova. But inside my deck box are 2 wolves, one is an evil controlling stun strat in the form of Giest. The other is a mad homebrew combo deck of PK Raidraptor
I love the editing updates. I miss the old background but I love the sleek black and all the slides instead of just cut-ins. Great job to you and whatever editor is working here!
I used to not like this deck. However, when me and my cousin used to competitively play against each other on Legacy of the Duelist he made some annoying ass decks and I eventually turned to this to even the scales. Have liked it ever since. Altergeist REALLY is one of the most annoying and mitigating decks in all of Yugioh. Lol. If it wasn’t so easy to get locked in archetype, Altergeist would be meta, I believe.
I recommend Small World. They’re all spellcasters with different levels and attributes, so you can bridge between them pretty easily, or just use Veiler and Droll.
This is one of my favorite deck in Master Duel, it's fun to see my opponents instant scoop when they can't break my fully established Altergist board along side with Secret Village of the Spellcasters.
@24:33 Heads up. Altergeist Protocol protects ACTIVATED card effects. The first effect of Altergeist Protocol is not an activated card effect, it’s a continuous card effect that just applies while it’s face up on the field. This means Royal Decree will negate the first effect of Protocol and then proceed to negate every other Altergeist Trap on the field.
Altergeist Peritrator, which came out after this video was made, can work with the second effect of Failover. Or Foolish any Altergeist card. Peritrator and Meluseek are a nice pair to go in a deck that has use for level 1s.
See I like how the newest support is an actual boss monster because there is a lot of plays and build up just to get a primebanshee and a hexstia on board since you probably used multifaker and are locked into altergeist monsters
I play magicalized fusion and saryuja so i can go into quintet and swing for lethal. I love hitting people with the outrageous amounts of draw power Haunted rock helps alot more than people know
Considering Altergeist's playstyle, is kinda funny to think Ghost Girl / Gal from VRAINS either doesn't know how to play her own deck, or actually nerfs herself, just to troll her opponent
Y'all know a funny tech to add to an altergeist deck? Performapal Five-Rainbow Magician. HILARIOUS when ppl can't read and also can't do jack or shit and then ragequit.
As someone who hates playing against combo but has to much self respect to play a pure floodgates deck this deck is one of my only real options until recently modern qliphorts are bad so qliphort advantage isn't much of a strat and most other advantage decks are just combo decks in disguise
im a long time mecha phantom beast player but quit playing yugioh this year bacause i think new ygo arch is so op but still want to see you make vids about them
I like computer stuff, so I was naturally drawn to the archetype. It makes me happy. Unfortunately, I don't understand how to play it. x.x Opponents playing AG: Secret Village *sigh* Motherfu-- ACCESSCODE TALKER!! I thought the deck was way slower than that! How!? Me playing AG: ... C'mon. Do the hacky hacky.
Thank you! In all honestly, it's actually a WORSE webcam since the other one borked it, but I found a setting that lets me record in higher definition. Remember everyone, always check your system settings xD
I don't know why but the monsters of this archetype all look like cyber clowns or circus performers because slot seem to have a silly face. As for the Archetype itself I haven't played or played against these guys and while Nova does a great job in detailing cards.....I'm not quite sure how to personally place this deck.
So 2 things. 1 I had no idea Altergeist was a gag entry and 2 how sad is it that Ghost gal only got 1 win in the whole anime and it was against and idiot.
The Konami did her dirty like they did to Blue Angel/Blue Maiden. If these two eventually play their decks seriously, not even Playmaker/Revolver/Ai can beat them and they can easily be the top players in the whole VRAINS.
OK, so question. Nova, why do you hate altergiest. I mean, sure it is a trap based deck but it's not like elditch decks. Those are more annoying than altergiest
IT'S HERE!!!
The man himself ❤️
I hope you enjoyed, and that it was a worthy primer for the Altergeist Curious!
My experience with Altergeist in MD:
Me: *Attempts to play one single move*
AG Player: "Let me stop you right there"
"yeah we can't have that. Kinda embarrassing for you dude c'mon"
Idk bro, I think it's just Yu-Gi-Oh! experience in general

I'm not saying it's optimal or anything because drawing Haunted Rock is the worst feeling in the world, but it's there.
The combo is:
Activate trap on opponent's turn, summon Multifaker
Multifaker summon Melussek
On your turn, link both off for Hextia
Meluseek search Pookuery
Link Pook + Hextia into Primebanshee
Chain 1 Hextia, chain 2 Pook so you can chainblock the search
Hextia adds Marionetter to hand
Summon Marionetter, setting Haunted Rock, then activating it by discarding the Pook
Marionetter sends Haunted Rock to revive Hextia
Link Marionetter and Primebanshee into Memorygant so it's being pointed to by Hextia (adding multifaker to hand with Primebanshee for next turn, just in case)
This'll give you a memorygant and a Hextia with a buttload of attack, so you can attack with Hextia, then attack with Memorygant tributing the Hextia to gain a truly absurd amount of attack points.
The last paragraph? It was done to me last week in Master Duel
I WAS SO CONFUSED

i skinda weird people think they can't respect things they hate....
But also ghost girl was one of my favorites from vrains so I am excited for this one (even if I do not like them in tcg)
Ghost girl is transitions goals.

I'm surprised how little I saw this deck during that anti-spell festival in Master Duel
with silquitous, manifestation, protocol and your spoofing , the opponent's win goes "spoofing".
I recommend Small World. They’re all spellcasters with different levels and attributes, so you can bridge between them pretty easily, or just use Veiler and Droll.

Question Golden why do you hate Altergesit? They seem like a cool archtype thematically and there play style is fun limited but fun
