Trogly, I have been following your channel for years, I have to say your tone and playing have improved a lot, you made that guitar sound good. I appreciate the fact you work hard on consistent uploads. You keep making these great videos, I'll keep watching!!!
That guitar should be flawless at that price. Dodgy binding and a couple of sizeable patches where the finish is missing the sparkle around the underside of the heel. No bueno.
Very cool , the block inlays work best ( for myself ) on a battleship of an electric guitar like the Explorer , I'd prefer the Ebony version though that Sparkle White is attractive, The Lizzy Hale Ebony with Gold fret wire is cool , it'd be a monster with a third pickup , Thanks Trog !
Gorgeous 24 Explorer Custom Sparkle, congrats Ashley! I wonder, since I am OCD, that there's a risk with any "New Guitar Day" of Trogly finding some blemish or minor fault triggering a sudden dislike of what I just bought but I'm powerless to do anything about now. Like a 0.5mm deflection in the binding thickness, that might do it.
@@rocketpigrecords3719 You are very wrong. Both ESP and Jacksons custom shops have a massive backlog, it takes sometimes more than 2 years to get your guitar cause everybody wants them. And at least in ESPs case the quality is among the absolute best and definitely above Gibson CS. This is coming from someone who owns and loves both.
I can tell you with 100% certainty that CME wax potting the S bucker is newer development. I have a 2018 CME Spec R9 with the S buckers, bought new by me at CME on April 1, 2019, and they are not wax potted. I know because I ended up putting a bit of wax in there to reduce some feedback mostly because Gibson didn't do the best job installing the cover. The S-Buckers are brighter than standard CustomBuckers for sure. Love them both!

That white sparkle finish up close reminds me of that garage floor paint. that thing monster at that weight. and even though I have giant hands I prefer a skinny neck. and those pick-ups sound good and no screeming feedback or other noises. which I find distracting. it's the reason I don't like single coils. Gibson may have hit on something there. those in a LP or an ES 335 would probably be good.
This is such a great looking guitar! Wow. Hey Gibson, the neck size and apparent weight are too much for me. How about a slim taper neck profile and 8 lb-ish body? If so, sold!
Nice sounding pickups. I love that Gibson now sells pickups at their website, but it’s sooooo frustrating 😤 that they still won’t offer the Super 74’s! Hey Austin - Gibson seems to like you; could you ask them about the Super 74’s next time you talk to them?
Gibson likes Trogly? I think you might be confused pal. Remember when they blacklisted him, a paying customer, from buying one of those ultra-expensive custom shop guitars that came with the dinner and meet-and-greet ?? One of those Kirk Hammett Greeny's I think it was. His Gibson rep literally told him he was not allowed to sell one to him! They wanted to meet only "authentic" clientele or some bullshit was the reasoning, no reviewers / resellers allowed! He eventually had one on the channel anyways when someone let him borrow one for review...
I like the white metal flake looks sweet! Still not a fan of VOS! For a Custom Shop there are a lot of little things that shouldn’t get past inspection!
For $6400 I'd want binding on the headstock... and the back. Under-winding at the factory reminds me of PRS, they came out with their PAF style 58/15 pickups with an LT tag, for "low turn".
Trogly!!! The Reverb demo shop has TWO KNOCKOUT Customs. The purple one has Super 400 inlays and a FLAMED neck. How these two got in the Demo Shop instead of the Mod Collection... IDK. Purple stamped dem. Blue stamped mod. Sunday can't come fast enough. 😂 👍🫡🐊
I personally wouldn't install vintage sounding pickups on an explorer type guitar. I would definitely get dirty fingers or 500T installed in that bridge pickup and rock like there's no tomorrow.
Mate, you need to get a set of Pageybuckers! Just amazing, so close to the 73 MSG tone its not funny! Made by Bryan Williams out of Aus. Check them out!
Those sparkle finishes are nice until they start cracking all over. Hopefully, Gibson has fixed this issue and this one won't. This guitar would look better with chrome hardware and a non-VOS treatment. Nice review.
Why does a chstom shop guitar have the nashville style bridge with bushings and not screw in studs + regular ABR? Seems like its not much different than a plain Gibson USA guitar? And the tailpiece is just a plain cast one. My Epi inspired by Gibson custom 59 LP has an aluminum one and a real ABR, and not to mention custombuckers. Am I missing something here?
Sounds great...funny how we change as we age and like diff things..I'm not into collecting on purpose..but I do collect what I come across like a life museum In a nin vein way.mjst keep my stuff with love ❤❤
Hey Austin have you ever considered doing like a viewer collection review or something, maybe have viewers send in their guitars and you comment on them..
The pickup wear looks fake because of the grain of whatever they sanded it with. Picks don't go that way when playing. Never seen a real vintage guitar with that on it, usually people take care of their fancier guitars and don't sand them.
Does anybody else find it weird that its more common for the Gibson Custom shop to make guitars that are aged vs ones that don't have any of that stuff? I don't get paying that much more for having a guitar artificially aged. For any guitar I buy brand new, I want to be the one to age it. I think you can get legitimately vintage guitars for similar prices anyway depending on where you look.
I saw a snakepit for sale in my local fb marketplace for $150 and I missed the sale. It was probably a fake pit but still someone got a deal for only 150 bucks
I know people get excited about different Gibson pickups, but how much better are they than, say Seymour Duncan, or Bare Knuckle, or Dimarzio? Some of your favourite guitarists from the past WEREN'T using Gibson pickups to produce the tones you grew up listening to. I think people are probably getting swept along by the hype and marketing material. Or possibly buying a guitar to retain its value rather than for it's ability to actually be a guitar.
6500 bucks and you have to clean buffing compound off it.... Come on Gibson. Custom shop as well.
Right, at that price, you better have to really look hard to find a flaw. I will say that's one of the cleanest routing jobs I've seen on a Gibson.
Yeah, where is that quality control?
I'm still thinking that Hamer made a better Explorer.

This explorer is awesome
Trogly, I love that you're getting some of these outrageous sparkle finish guitars on your channel! I have this same custom explorer in sparkle blue!
Those Explorers look like they are made from countertop corian.
That would be great. A fine sand and buff and it’s a new guitar.
That guitar should be flawless at that price. Dodgy binding and a couple of sizeable patches where the finish is missing the sparkle around the underside of the heel. No bueno.

None of my guitars are wallflowers, this will do it's first gig on 12th Sept, so I'm sure it will earn its own battle scars anyway, soon enough
Guitar for 6000$ should be perfect. Can you imagine Jackson or ESP custom shop doing something like this?
Why did you put the $ at the end?
No, because almost no one buys them.

That finish reminds me of the linoleum floor in the cafeteria of my ‘50s era high school 😂
The metal flake pops out whilst the nitro sinks, which is why the finish checks on a metal flake-finished guitar.

Great clean sound. Hmmm lets see if they crunch. ... crunches well also.
Pretty good.
Explorer customs also use the 58 explorer body, which is more rounded/less pointy than a usa explorer. Pick guard is also bigger.

It needs a split diamond inlay.
Would be cool on the body or pickguard

I still prefer the sparkle white finish on the Tommy Thayer Explorer.

LOVE these pickups! Do they sell them as a set?
Killer looking guitar.
Is that a custom feature on the pick guard at the 6:32 mark?
So, has Gibson finally gotten a vintage PAF tone right after all these years?? Miraculous
A Marshall JCM-800, 900 or 2000 is mandatory with this guitar. Or a Vox-AC 30.
That sounds pretty damn good. Chimes on clean and when pushed screams nicely.

A review on that pickup was merely a two-word review, it only said 'S___ Buckers" 😜
Great guitar.
Any chance it's not an s but a 5 on the pickups? Maybe a magnet designation.
No, it seems they still have the AlNiCo 3 magnets like the usual Custombuckers... only difference is the low winding and wax potting.

It sounds great.
Those pickups are definitely warmer and fuller sounding to my ear.

Are the S-Buckers a similar spec to the early 80’s Tim Shaw HBs? I guess Fender now has the copyright on the ‘Tim Shaw’ name.
I have frequent dreams about playing ebony fret-boarded guitar. Perhaps. Someday. My dream.
