    As a man who is relatively new to the Morris Minor, this particular film is very informative.
    I like the way you've laid this out on the bench, and your description too. The fitting up process is also very clear and very helpful for a novice like me.
    I have viewed a number of Morris Minor films on 'U tube'. However one chap who posted about his car, would explain and talk about this same type of job, but in the end he would only show the completed job. What a disappointment.
    Should you have any time to comment on snags you've encountered, and how you managed to get around problems please consider posting.
    It's certainly not 'Waffle' it's very interesting, clear and concise. Looking forward to your next films.
    Kind regards Jonnie.👍

      I try to make the videos as complete as possible, but sometimes I get absorbed by what I am doing and so can't film everything. Another video should go online tonight (about the wooden rollover jig) and then there will be some videos on the rear axle and rear suspension. Stay tuned!

    Excellent video Tim , I am just about to do mine and so your video has come at just the right time . Very good view and explainatiion of what you are doing. There is just one point I am not sure about , did you grease the poly bushes or was it vaseline you used when assembling the trunnions ? 👍

    • @goingundersground
      @goingundersground  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Philip. I actually used a special grease for poly bushes called Energy Suspension 9.11104 Formula 5 which is specifically designed for poly bushes. Its very sticky. See link below;
      www.energysuspensionparts.com/9.11104
      I then used regular wheel bearing grease for the swivel pins (Redline CV-2). I think the Energy Suspension grease was recommended by a forum post, but I can't seem to find it now.

    Did you have the original king pins and repaint the old ones? On the torque bars do you have little play on the spines is this ok? And also does the bottom pivot t piece unsrew from the extended torque bar?

  • @geoffcrump3446
    @geoffcrump3446 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had a minor for years in my early years .and of course driving home one eve the king pin failed and pulled out lower trunnion .. result being LH front side of car collapse!
    I fitted new king pins both sides c/w new trunnion..and greased with Castol Mo2 ,moly grease..regular they never failed again!
    The standard LM grease cant take the loading on acme threads

    Good stuff, Tim. Your video will dispel the apparent complexity for others. Did I see you using a plain nut, or was it - correctly - a Nyloc nut on the very front of the tie-bar? Originally, they fitted a castelated nut and split pin there, but a modern brand-new Nyloc will do.

    • @goingundersground
      @goingundersground  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Phil - you have a keen eye; it was a plain nut with a small split pin.

    Great video, may I ask how it was so easy to jack up the front suspension to put everything back together? Did you back off the torsion bars at the back of the car?

    • @goingundersground
      @goingundersground  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I just installed the bars on the car and then used a jack under the wishbones to move everything into place. The car was pretty much just a shell at that stage, with no engine, transmission etc.

      Thanks! The music is 'Oxygene' by Chris Simons. I downloaded it from the Freesound app. I made a mistake in the video by not thanking Chris for the use of the music. I'll make sure I mention it in future videos.

      I'm planning to stick with the stock drum brakes for now. The engine will be the stock 948. It depends on how scary that might be!

      @ozriblit 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Way back when I was young and drove a Morris Minor I replaced the front suspension with that from a Morris Major and added a PBR booster. The bigger drums and booster stopped it a bit quicker.

    Hi Tim, I'm refurbishing my moggies front suspension and am tackling me trunnions ! How far do you screw the trunnions on and looking at my tie bars, they had the castellated nuts but I can't find any evidence of a hole for a split pin nor documentation showing one either 🤔

    • @goingundersground
      @goingundersground  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Janet sorry for the delay in replying; I don't think its an exact science but I think I screwed them down, then backed off one or maybe one and half turns. For the tie bar, mine had a plain nut and hole for a split pin.

    very instructive! Might I recommend you lower the volume on that really irritating background music near the end of the video I had a 1956 Morris Minor and of course the whole front assembly always puzzled me because it was nothing like any other front suspension I've ever seen...

    • @goingundersground
      @goingundersground  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TinaFollett-es5un Typically you would swap out the dynamo for an alternator, obviously switch over the battery cables then check things like the polarity of the radio, if fitted, and a few other things. I don't think its too difficult, but I've never actually done it. I would advise looking for a few guides on the web like these;
