    It’s looking good Tim your Morris journey has been great to watch. Great Video.

    My early cars had drums, first car drums all round, never seen a design that doesn’t have the little spring loaded pin/clips to retain the shoes back against the backplate, is that how they are on a minor..? 🤔

    • @goingundersground
      @goingundersground 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Exploded diagrams for Morris Minors do not show those little 'beehive' hold down springs and when I stripped down my car they were not present. However ESM do carry them, so it is confusing. Minors had 7 inch front drums originally but later ones were fitted with 8 inch drums; maybe the beehives were only fitted to the later ones? They are definitiely used on the rear brakes though.

    Old trick was to paint the end of the adjuster white, so you could see it when you turned the drum. All the best with your project 👍

    Useful video. Got to have a go at doing my 1970 Traveller's (again, after several years) as the bush in the RHS of the chassis leg (RHD car) has worn badly, which causes some 'snatch' of the clutch pedal at the bottom of its travel.

    Hi mate great vid! Just a quick question, I also have changed my moggy to a duplex chain, I put the cover and crankshaft pulley back on after I was finished and decided to start it up for a bit to see how it was running without the coolant etc, after about 3 mins of running I turned it off but noticed white smoke coming from the top coolant inlet, if you have any answer for this I’d love to here it!

    The A series engine was good, but built to a budget. Oil leaks due to poor oil seals and... no tensioner on the timing chain which would be more effective than an untensioned duplex one IMHO.

    I use cunifer and the same die and anvil tool as the harbour freight version from Sealey. Inconsistent but doable. I reannealed the ends afterwards because I was worried about stress cracking but I’m not sure I had to. All fine 5 yrs later.

  • @davidanderson8407
    @davidanderson8407 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I found when bleeding the brakes if you jack the car to get the master cylinder as high as possible in relation to the bleed point it was helpful .I took my pipes to a small local garage and they flared them for me. I paid them of course .They used a hydrolic thing!!!! I also struggled trying to do it myself so kudos to you for your perseverance . The body work is looking great.

      Thanks David, good to know; do you have a servo?

    • @davidanderson8407
      @davidanderson8407 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No I never had a servo. I no longer own a moggy though I had 3 over different times.The brakes were always fiddly. The placing of the master cylinder in the chassis leg was an issue!!!!!I used to get a mate to crow bar the torsion bar out of the way to get to the nuts to remove the cylinder .This saved dropping the torsion bar. Then replace the bolts in the opposite direction which made future removal easier.@@goingundersground

      Actually if the car is old enough, it is exempt from emissions requirements in California. My Minor was actually imported to the US new in 1959, so it should not be a problem. I recall that the magic year is 1975.

      No, I just installed the bars on the car and then used a jack under the wishbones to move everything into place. The car was pretty much just a shell at that stage, with no engine, transmission etc.
