Dude Marmalade here (pct class of 2019), I could totally sympathize with you and all your feelings. I too am adopted at age 6 and nobody can know how deep that pain is and how it permanently damages a part of it no matter how amazing we become. You are an inspiration to myself and so many others in the hiking community so never lost site of that. The very act of long distance hiking (I feel) has saved my life and helped me cope with how overwhelming life and that sadness can be. You notice that no matter how difficult the conditions in terms of weather or trail didn’t overwhelm you but the seemingly simple act of completing this incredible feat and being let down was tougher on you than anything you faced on these three trail. I’m proud of you, so incredibly impressed. I know it’s been over a month now so I know you’re fine but the last part of this video resonated with me. Thank you for being open enough to share that. Cheers…

I’m glad you at least sat down and relaxed for a bit. For a minute there I thought you were just going to immediately walk off. Shame the ending was anticlimactic, but as they say, it’s about the journey, not the destination. I’m so glad you left that part in so people can see that it’s not always neatly packaged rainbows and unicorns out on trail. In any case, absolutely epic accomplishment, congratulations!

One thing that makes your journey so compelling for those of us following vicariously is your brutal honesty along the way. Although I wish you could have had the ending you expected, I felt privileged that you kept us with you as you processed the reality. I have followed you from the beginning and am so grateful that you brought us along on this amazing journey. Best wishes for whatever comes next. I'm going to take a break and then I'm going to watch them all again! You are an inspiration in so many ways.

Wow! What a great insight-“I feel like I’m owed a great ending, but I’m not owed shit”. Thanks for sharing your struggle to reconcile your disappointment and all the feelings and thoughts that were arising when the end didn’t match your story. Sir my hat is off to you, both for what you conquered without, and what you conquered within.

I'm so glad you had this amazing opportunity to share your realness with us, as raw as it was. Look at all these comments of people who really do care about you and followed your journey! Whether you realize it or not, Quadzilla, you are an amazing person and have made a huge impact on those of us who love being on the trail, or just following you on the trail. You have inspired us, challenged us, and awed us with your stamina and will to complete a goal you had in 2022! You were unstoppable! Your challenges, and mental arguments have only made you the strong person that you are! I wish you only great things ahead! We are your cheering section, and if we could all have just been there at the end to celebrate you, we would have! I think I speak for everyone here who has made a comment! So, know that you are loved and cared about by a huge crowd of followers, even though we haven't met you personally. You are AMAZING!

A disappointment, is always compounded when you have unresolved grief in your life. I was hoping you would make the connection between the abandonment you felt on the trail with the original issue. That is a big step in healing some of that hurt that will probably be with you for your whole lifetime. I am glad you were able to share this video, I am sure you must have struggled with whether to share. It is an important message. Congratulations on this great achievement. I am so proud of you.

For all your efforts, you deserved a celebration at the terminous. The remote location just worked against getting others there at the right time. You are certainly respected for your accomplishments. No one can take that from you. Thank you for being so gracious with sharing your personal experience along your CYTC! From me: ⭐🎊🎶🍺🎊⭐

Just want you to know that I am one of the many who has followed you during your epic journey and achievement. From the beginning you amazed me with your physical strength and mental acuity as well as your positive outlook on life. I also understand your reactions upon reaching the final pinnacle. I felt your pain and frustration, and I know it had to hurt not to have someone there to greet and celebrate with you. However, you were right to say that it's no one's fault, in fact, I would go so far as to say that perhaps it was meant to be. Things happen for reasons that we sometimes do not understand at the time. There may be a lesson there for you that will one day become apparent. Anyway, it's okay to feel those things, you're entitled... you are human after all (even if you have the legs of a god). The main thing is that you did something most people would never even dare to try. Best wishes to you in all of your endeavors. (PS. I can't wait to see what you have in store for us next!) ` Jo

I totally feel what you felt at the end. I myself have experienced some disappointment in my life, a feeling of abandonment. And then someone ruins your moment of celebration. You have rationalized everything, but no matter how much it is about your own expectations, a bitter feeling remains in your mouth. Kudos to you, I don't know if I could stay so calm.
If you had given me the honor of meeting you at the end of the trail, I would have come a day earlier and waited for you with 3 champagnes.
However it ended, congratulations on your huge success!!! I am the president of the Croatian Long Distance Trail association and if you ever decide to hike that trail, contact me, you will have all my help!

Started following your adventures in Campo. Went back and watched the entire AT trek, too. Congratulations on your amazing accomplishment. I was a bit surprised by the final video's ending. It seemed that you had been essentially solo through so much of the trek that even if you had plans to have some celebration, it wouldn't be so strange for plans to fall through and end up being solo at the end. If nothing else, your CYTC video series taught me that about thru-hiking. I mean, In some aspect I certainly felt great sadness when I saw how it ended and how it affected you, but the outstanding question is: When, where, and how did you finally celebrate?
I'm sure a lot of people in your extended TH-cam family would love to know that, and might you consider an event (e.g., a TH-cam live) where those of us who are far away could be part of your celebration? Just throwing it out there. No matter what you decide about that, please know that I am overflowing with respect and admiration for what you have done! Congratulations! Thank you for bringing us along!
    All the very best,

I am so inspired by your mindset. You don't know how much it's meant to me to be able to follow you throughout the CYTC. I watched every video and they are all good. Thank you so much for sharing your stunning experiences with us. It was an unbelievable thing to be there with you throughout the journey but especially at the end to hear you teach us wisdom about life. You are a true master in so many ways. I hope to meet you some day. Good luck with the next phase of your journey!

Thank you for all the hard work filming and sharing your experience, it was an epic hike no doubt! great job THG! and dont sweat the fact you cant depend on others all the time, life is rarely neat or clean and your not alone in the world regardless of how it seems sometimes, im saying there are kind, caring, and competent people everywhere theyre just not always our friends or family-D

I find I cannot watch any other hikers as no one compares to your capabilities and desire to do what you planned to do. Hope to hear from you again with more.

Congratulations! Back when I heard you were done I celebrated here at home and I sure wish we all could have met you with fireworks, streamers, and beer. BTW I was on the CT this fall, looked for you but missed you by a couple days. Would have loved to shake your hand!

Thanks for the incredible series of vids of your hikes, it made the past year more interesting since I work way too much lately. Maybe you already came to this conclusion afterwards but I think your "celebration" was every single day you had on the trail that you weren't stuck behind a desk. I know I'm looking forward to a section hike after watching you and I'm going to be singing on the trail every fricking day. At least that how I picture it but for comparison, I'm mostly a trail runner and I do occasionally scream out at random times when realize I'm not at my desk and running in rain, heat, cold whatever. Its better than being at work. Its all about perspective.

Absolutely incredible! Congratulations! You’re a CY triple crowner dude! Looking forward to seeing your coffee table book - it’s in the mail! Take care! (Glad you finally got picked up and hope you got to celebrate appropriately!)

Makes sense that when one hikes alone one celebrates alone and the joy of each should not differ. This is a celebration that will last a lifetime. Appreciate what people give; not focus on what they don’t or can’t give. Let them in.

I have followed much of your accomplishments this year and you are an amazing person. I have have huge limits in my life physical movement and speech. I now do longer hikes and bike trips. No one else understands the importance and so as I finish three or four months I have learned that I must see it as a mark for me and others will never understand. I need the solo time, but even my family just do not get my desire to accomplish.
Stay strong and it is okay to be solo and later with a family you will still need the solo.

Now that it's been 2+ months since you finished, I'm hoping you'd be willing to share with us what you think about your journey now that you have water, sleep, and food in your belly. Great job! Very impressive.

So very much work and grinding through it all virtually every day. I am sorry that ending was anti-climactic for you. The decompression after such a journey must be very hard. i hope you've been able to grasp your accomplishment and that it is bringing you a certain amount of joy and pride. Well done. I, for one, and most ALL of us I am sure, are impressed.
