    Recapping your run in with Jimmy made me recall the other people from your videos you ran into, and what I've heard from other hikers that ran into you during your CYTC...
    In one way or another, you really helped others by being kind, humble, and authentic.
    It's what we should all strive to be as backpackers and, more importantly, as humans.
    Nice!

      I appreciate that! I think that's a big part of why I hike. The more I'm out in nature the more I can just BE and not have to be anything, and in that way you can show up to interactions with less baggage/ego/whatever.

    Thank you for allowing us to join you on your journey. I had a 2-trail pipe dream in '96 (AT - NOBO and CDT - SOBO) but my father passing put the brakes on even a single trail. I was 45 at the time and trained daily with a 60-lb pack. Your right. I worked 43 years and never got the chance to experience the good or bad and even the ugly of a through hike. Now at 72 I'm hitting the hopium pipe again to just have a shot at the AT. If the body will hold out a bit longer, I think at 75 it will be a great year to put the pipe down and lace up the shoes once again. Jonesing for the next video. Thank you again for all the time you are taking to include us. (Insert applause).

    I love this series Quadzilla! Can't wait for the next one. It was interesting to learn that the first time you did the AT it took over 200 days. I thru hiked in 2021 and it took me 192 days. (I was 58 at the time) But the fact that it took you a while to get through it the first time makes you seem human during this inhuman feat you accomplished! Keep them coming!

    • @QuadzillaHikes

      I think we tend to see the end product and forget all the steps along the way. Like watching people do those crazy redbull stunts I wonder how the heck that's even possible, but that's seeing the pinnacle of something they've been doing for decades probably. Same with the CYTC, that's a culmination of lifting weights since I was a teenager, and then being in the Army, and then thru-hiking 3 times, and running several ultra marathons, and working on a hotshot crew. All of those experiences and training lead up to being able to do the CYTC.

      @@QuadzillaHikes I agree 100%. It's the work you do for years, when no one is looking, that makes it all possible... I was so physically and emotionally drained after the AT I couldn't imagine going right into another thru-hike. All I wanted to do is stop hiking. Now all I want to do is get back on the trail!

    Awesome videos dude! Just did the AT this last year and it's so cool to see the clips from sections that I can remember walking through. I also think you do a great job in these videos of showing a mix of the landscape, what trail life is like, other people, and narrating bits. Too many hiking videos are all just people talking to the camera, or just walking, or similar. Super high quality editing to go along with a killer accomplishment.

    I’m just finding your channel, and I absolutely love this series! I’m currently binging your videos down here in New Orleans while dreaming of the mountains where I grew up. I completely understand the "why". My question is "how?" I’ve known for a long time that if I ever won the lottery, this is exactly what I’d do. But seeing as that’s a very slim possibility, how do you make this lifestyle work? (Not asking for a friend; asking totally for myself)

    • @QuadzillaHikes

      Mostly not having any responsibilities. No house, kids, car patment etc. The whole year cost like 15k and I make more than that with videos and sponsors so it's not hard to maintain.

    Why did I start thru hiking: Because I wanted to escape from other problem I created for myself in life.
    Why do I still thru hike: Because it has totally changed my perspective on life and it's the reason I addressed most of those problems I created. It's also a primary catalyst for me getting my career in wildlife biology. Don't think I would've pursued it if not for the connection to nature I have built through backpacking and thru hiking.

    Hey Qz. Loving the vids. We meet on the PCT last year. We chatted briefly about 5 miles from the northern terminus (i was heading back, you were about to finish). (I also met Marvel a few times around Rightwood) Out of interest what was your daily average mileage? How many zeros did you take?

    • @QuadzillaHikes
      @QuadzillaHikes  ปีที่แล้ว

      Mileage changes a lot based on the terrain but AT full days I'd do 25-28, PCT and CDT 32-35, and then all the neros and whatnot. Good timing on that finish before the fires!

  • @penguinmilkstudios

    Just posting on your latest video to ask a question about PCT... What % of the hike do you think has service? I am debating taking a mobile router with me and some batteries.

    • @QuadzillaHikes
      @QuadzillaHikes  ปีที่แล้ว

      The High Sierra's and the last 250 miles of Washington have essentially no service. Other than that there's a good amount. But why take all that stuff out there, if there are things you need to do that require service trying to combine it with a thru-hike might not be the best idea.

    • @penguinmilkstudios
      @penguinmilkstudios ปีที่แล้ว

      @@QuadzillaHikes It's not much stuff the router is small and batteries very small. I need to answer emails and do some work on the trail if I were to do it. Also doubles as entertainment once in a while at night. Just trying to get an idea if its possible or to just shorten my trip in sections.

    • @QuadzillaHikes
      @QuadzillaHikes  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@penguinmilkstudios emails and whatnot should be fine. Sounds like maybe you're bringing a laptop? I'd just advise to figuring out if you can do all of it from your phone, that would be much simpler, I carried a Bluetooth keyboard before to hook up to the phone

    • @QuadzillaHikes
      @QuadzillaHikes  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really, only in national parks or other areas with problem bears, like lake Tahoe. The more remote and wilderness you are, the less I'm concerned about bears because out there they'll be much more afraid of humans.
