  • The secretive Grey Knights are the Chapter Militant of the Ordo Malleus, meaning their remit is the fight against Chaos and all that is daemonic in the 41st Millenium. Protected by their Aegis power armour, they can turn aside psychic powers as easily as blades and bullets! READ MORE:
    Painting the classic blue steel appearance for their Aegis suits is simple, too! With just a handful of colours they make for an incredibly striking unit on the table, so follow along with another quick look at how easy some of the elite of the Imperium can hit the table in no time at all.

      I'm glad to hear it! I tend to think we overcomplicate things when we're getting started with something - I certainly do! Distilling things down to the basics makes for good practice, and it never hurts to start simple. :D

    Love the pain job. Thanks.
    I kind of wish you hadn't skipped a few steps after the sword. As a first-timer it was daunting to see how much work you had done from one frame to the next. If you have a vid that doesn't skip steps, I'd be interested in watching. Thanks again!

    I got my buddy into 40K and I promised I’d assist him paint whatever army he got, he picked Grey Knights. Only problem I’ve never painted one!
    Also I just want to say, this is honestly probably one of the best painting tutorials I’ve seen. It’s perfect for the intermediate painter. You are right, I don’t need to see you block in Mephiston red, but at the same time it was helpful to see the entire process of the armor. Subscribed

      I've just found out you also have tutorials for Deathwatch, Sisters of Battle & Imperial Guard too - which with Grey Knights & Acolytes are going to be the component parts of my Inquistion army.
      I eventually want them to be playable as detachments or as separate armies - possibly with a Custodes detachment too - and all tied together with a purple colour scheme (obviously with Grey Knight armour still grey, Deathwatch still black, etc.) and all infantry-based. My guard are mostly head-swapped with Cawdor & 3rd party cultist heads and those skitarii guns and a few leg swaps too. Veterans are kitbashed Arbites. Plus everyone important has crossbow bow parts on their weapons (heavy weapons teams have the Cawdor heavy crossbow parts on) and I've got plain Cawdor Redemptionists for priests.
      Anyway so I've subscribed to your channel.

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio

      It's an ordinary Citadel Small Layer brush! You don't need to mess around with the Artificer range unless you're getting into really, really precise territory. For the sake of churning out armies like this, you'll do fine with the ordinary Small Layer.

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly, as long as there's silver and a bit of blue in there, I'm not usually too worried if it's difficult to get in there with a brush and brighten it back up. Anything which is difficult to reach with a brush is usually in a position where it would make sense for it to be shadowed by the miniature's position, so for the most part I'll leave them slightly darker and not worry about it. The only issue comes when it's those books or gold details on the chest, and then you can usually get at the weird angles slightly easier by just holding the dude upside down. :D

      As chance would have it, I do! th-cam.com/video/l2HUWLBlyXU/w-d-xo.html The techniques are broadly applicable to all the creatures in the Tyranids range, so they scale up perfectly well from Termagants to Tyrants. They're a pretty cool army, really!

  • @MarionetteX4
    @MarionetteX4 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I'm intrigued, as I've heard a bit about how certain airbrush-intended paints function well as thinner special layer or edge paints. Is it mainly a selection in the Vallejo Air range that are ideal for these special brush layer/edge highlights?

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Honestly, the main difference is in the range of colours available. Vallejo's Air range tends to be a little brighter than their main range, and it's much smoother coming off a brush. They're ideal for highlights if you like to paint without doing a lot of mixing, like I do. Otherwise they're really very similar to Citadel's Edge paints. Lots of pigment, good flow and nice, sharp lines once they're dry.

    • @MarionetteX4
      @MarionetteX4 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Once again, thank you for the lovely insight! I might pick up a few Vallejo Air pots down the line, depending on what projects pop up. In the mean time, I'll stick with the mix of Citadel, Vallejo Model/Game and Army Painter ranges, but this is a valuable little tip to keep in mind. :)
