  • The Sector Imperialis kits are packed with detail that can be a little daunting if you're looking to get scenery on the table quickly. Well, just don't paint it! READ MORE:
    With a few quick blasts of a spray can and some simple drybrushing you can have your board filled with neat scenery in no time at all. The additional details you choose to paint are up to you, but the simplest techniques will see you through scores of ruined buildings and areas of rubble.

      It doesn't take much to fill a table with scenery like this, either!

    Before you spray it, I'd advise you to think about filling in the gaps using Vallejo Model Putty which has a great small nozzle so ideal fro buildings.

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's really more a testament to my slapdash construction methods than the kits themselves that there's visible gaps - it'd do me well to remember to file joins flat, I think! I hadn't come across the model putty with a nozzle, so that's definitely something I'll be looking out for.

    nice, don't actually own any scenery but i want to now, just to try out your method. Do you have any ideas for painting cadians? like anything other than the 8th?

      I'm actually planning on going back to do some alternative Guard colour schemes soon! A couple of people have asked about variations on them and I figured it'd be neat to do a couple of differently themed miniatures to show off how the techniques can be adapted.

      cool, please could you show us how to do little dots on the fatigues? id like my guys to look like the US army in operation desert storm so painting the choc chip camo would require that technique.

    Thanx this has helped, because at least you don't use 30/40 paints like Warhammer TV .... They must think we are all rich!!

    Did you break apart some of the floor tile pieces because my kit doesn’t have that same formation as yours

      It's been a couple of years, I honestly don't remember. However, these kits haven't been produced in a while, so there's a chance you've got one of the new Imperial terrain sets?

    I've purchased some modular gothic buildings and ruins to use in my Killteam and Stargrave grimdark games and this process will work fantastically. I think the look goes really well with grimdark, or even any wargame really. I made a bunch of ramshackle buildings for This Is Not A Test and I'll have to try this method out on them as well and see how it looks.

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That reminds me I really ought to try out This is Not a Test. I'm pretty sure I've got a rules PDF somewhere - it looks a right laugh!

      @@SonicSledgehammerStudio It's a fun game that hits all the right Fallout and Mad Max vibes. Warbands give you lots of options. Not sure what you're modern terrain is like, but Plasticville USA has a nice amount of inexpensive 0 scale modern buildings that can be modified and painted up to look appropriately post-apocalyptic. Some Mantic terrain would work great too.

    Really like this video. Yes it is a quick and easy get it on the table, but, it also leaves the room to come back later and add any details at a later date.

      Ahaaa, the clever one shows their hand! :D You're dead right, and well observed. Nothing is so 'finished' you can't do more to it, and that's part of why I make such a point of going over the grey 'as is' rather than basecoating it in a different manner.

    The same day you released this it looks like they're discontinuing these sets. Jinxed it? I really like the look though and I appreciate your focus on getting everything in perspective. (Says the guy who spends way too much time filing down sprue cuts and moldlines)

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no! I just checked the online store and it seems like you're right. I guess they're making way for the terrain that'll be coming with Kill Team? Best to get in through outside suppliers and pick up some on the cheap if there's any going, although if the new sets are half as good as some of the other recent scenery, we should be alright. ;D

    Hi Sonic, thanks for the video, this will speed up my city painting by a tonne :)
    Also the new 'KILL TEAM' coming with in the next 5 months or so, releases G.W's new modular city terrain. This terrain is basically more upper echelon parts of an imperial city, with great columns and huge arch ways. When this comes out, could you demonstrate a way to paint battle damaged 'marble' stone as i would like to paint this new terrain in such a manner. Many thanks :)

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm really looking forward to that new Kill Team scenery, too. More variety of kits can only be a good thing! I'll take a look at some options once they come along and see what I can do for a marbled look.

    looks great! From which kit is it?

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      As it happens, this particular kit was discontinued shortly after my upload! Whoops. In its place came the new 40k Sector Imperialis kits which you could paint in much the same way, though.

    I'll admit... I spend more time on my scenery than on my Nids...

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If they play anything like my Guard, then the scenery probably spends way more time on the table! ;D

    • @TeaIngyer
      @TeaIngyer 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well one can't spend very much time on each individual Nid when you have 100 Gaunts to put down, and another 40 in reserve for the Tervigons to poop out.
      Tyranids are perfect to play if you love taking your units off the table, then putting them back on the table about 50 times a game.
