Yes, really. It has a $55M budget and they didn’t skimp on advertising. Flower Moon is considered a box office flop despite having tech money supporting it. The standard should be the same with Challengers and any other prestige release films
Challengers is being marketed as a steamy romantic drama, there should be a huge audience for this kind of movie. But the audience did not show up, this is proof how much of a superstar Zendaya really is.
The male protagonists share homoerotic moments and Zendaya's character unapologetically cheats on her devoted husband. This is not a happy ending mainstream romantic drama. It would have made less than $1M without Zendaya. It's going to be the highest grossing tennis movie ever released

@@nataliajimenez1870 thats cute thinking it would have not just gone straight to streaming if zendaya was not in it
Tennis movies don’t do well.
It’s sad cause this one is so well made and the tennis scenes are all-timers. Best I’ve seen Bella!
Nobody i know, is talking about this film!! 2 dudes and pretty skinny chick and tennis, really doesn't have appeal to most folks in my community!
I love it when Grace, is all business mode but full of backhanded compliment! Everyone she talks about was grateful complement while throwing out shade 😅.
Nome is Save.
Does Grace consider anything not to be a comic book franchise to be “arthouse”?
not just her everyone that word gets thrown around way to much
Don't forget that Luca Guadagnino put Timothee Chalamet on the map with Call Me By Your Name.
Because Timothee was willing to put in the hard work and was a fantastic actor in Call Me By Your Name. Zendaya accepted a movie role and treated her cast mate like she was better than them but she was not.
They should've put that Zendaya movie on streaming with that plot, lmao
nah
Sounds like that amazon movie aboutvthe girl who fell in love with the brothers
Challengers was a movie for Twitter. No one asked for for a weird throuples tennis movie. Even if it was great which it wasn’t people don’t care. Who is surprised by this?!?
I'm not surprised. But Zendaya's PR team is, for sure.
I think if the characters were more likable people would actually enjoy their time, but everyone I know that saw it apart from Grace was mad they saw it. That's pretty much filmmaking 101, make characters people root for and to do that they have to either have a good personality, sympathetic story, or be a good person. From what I heard this movie has none of that.
I just watched dune2, Zendaya has no screen presence she was ok, but considering her role she should have been way more. While she may get bigger than Angelia Jolie or Kidman, it wont be due to her acting ability, it will be due to Marketing.
She has massive onscreen presence
comparing zendaya to Nicole Kidman or Angelina Jolie is just ridiculous and laughable!! zendaya cant act and is nowhere close to being as attractive
I mean everyone can have a perspective sure
Your opinion
the #1 film is at $15m, art house or main stream commercial does the chart even matter anymore at these numbers??
It had a budget of 55 million
Theres been like 5 500mil+ movies this year. Thats huge
It's not misogyny that holds back actresses. It's bc women don't turn out for those movies. Barbie was unique in its appeal. It's the same story with the wnba. Women don't show up. Caitlin Clark is the Barbie of women's basketball
you know why barbie proved guys like blowing shit up and bad guys being punched by good guys and girls like pink and girlly things the proof is right there people need to admit it
No it’s the fact that they’re not enough good main stream lead roles for women
This woman is delulu. Bigger than Nicole Kidman? Lol
17:24 Arrakis sequel movie still rolling quite well in Movie Theaters 🥳 I went to couple screenings & bought it digitally via AppleTv Store 🙂 Gonna stream via Max & AppleTv 🙂
Underscoring Baby Reindeer a bit there. It grew a record breaking 408% in its second week. The best week-to-week growth ever. Word of mouth truly propelled this series forward.
For comparison, the show with with the 2nd highest growth, Beef, grew by 106% in its second week.
An amazing performance and will definitely make Netflix likely to sign off on another project.
I think she’s annoyed that she didn’t see this coming (not even sure if she’s got round to watching it). It feels like the equivalent of Fleabag’s success. This is gonna have a long tail culturally.
This is exactly what I expected for Challengers, which had nothing in it that would make me want to see it. It's a streaming movie.
Rebel moon felt like it was made by AI
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Don't know... I think AI would have made something better 😂
The trailer for Challengers started with, "The sexiest movie..."
It was too cringe to see at that point.
Love you grace but no one will ever be angelina Jolie ever look at how gal gadot failed at that
To the line “who doesn’t want to work with Zendaya?” Shouldn’t it be “Who doesn’t want to work with Scorsese?” 😅😊
I already saw the Fall Guy last Wednesday 🤔 🇪🇺. Why is it not released yet in the United States? BTW, I wasn’t into it and neither was the rest of the crowd. All the industry references flew over everybody’s heads.
Zendaya is almost 30, and still comes off as a teenager. She is simply not suitable to play adult, mature roles. She also doesn't have the range.
I think the "Disney image" is holding her back. She needs to lock in to more mature roles, not neccesarily provocative but more adult. That way she can move away from that image
Thank you....well said
THAT ZENDAYA SECTION WAS SO LONG!
Why no mention of Three Body Problem Grace??? Brushed it right off!!
Noticed that too
Zendaya def not a movie star with box office like this (and no I dont wanna hear BuT WhAt AbOuT Spidermand and Dune)
This movie actually over performed. This movie performed better than most of Tom Holland’s movies outside of Spider-Man. 😂😂😂
@@b5732280 grace called monkey man a flop even though it only cost 10 m to make and made 10 m on opening weekend. Challengers made only 5 m more on a 55m budget so...yeah it's not great. Tom Holland isn't a movie star, but neither is Zendaya, cope harder
Rebel Moon will drop so hard second week
It didnt even make it through the first week before it started to drop. Those Netflix numbers on tuesday are going to have it walking off a cliff 😬
I still hope he makes the third so I can keep pointing and laughing, I pirate it anyway so it’s water off a duck’s back either way
Zendaya needs a Timothee Chalamet or Tom Holland to make a movie. She's just a tag along Nelly.
"tag along Nelly" 😂
This is one of her first solo wide releases. Lmfao. Sit down.
This was not meant to be a big budget film. If Zendeya wasn't in it NOONE would've seen it at all.
As if Timothee and Tom have had success outside of IP
@@safirestudiothat's because no one else in this is even recognizable. It's not a flex to be more popular than a no name.
Twitter/X/TikTok love Zendaya and she gets huge buzz there, but those aren’t real places and they don’t reflect the actual general entertainment audience. Zendaya is obviously and painfully niche. Of course this movie was going to flop.
Challengers is a huge win for Zendaya especially after Dune: Part Two she’s having a fantastic year!
@kishenkoolskills90 who cares as long as it makes profit. That's why these projects are created.
@kishenkoolskills90Zendaya knew that Dune: Part Two would have the much bigger Box Office debut for her than Challengers!
Is the win in the room with us?
Poor Things did get a Cinema score , "A−" on an A+ to F scale (for those who are not aware how it works), way higher than Challengers and Civil War
They should’ve showed off some of the cool shots during the tennis matches, especially from the end of the film, in the trailers.
Rebel Moon is absolute garbage.
What, you don't like slow motion?
Hey don't insult garbage like that
You can say that again
@@MichaelCDavis1 slow mo gardening is crazy

If a show is only 25-30 minutes long, I'm waiting to binge it. And that's only if I remember it exists by the time all the episodes are out. I'll begrudgingly watch hour+ shows once a week, but half hour ones that aren't just silly comedies... they don't give me the same satisfaction weekly as something an hour long.
Grace im going to become a member this week !!! FINALLY!!!!!
Challengers opened last week here in Australia, so surely there’s some international box office figures to include?
$10 million overseas opening - horrible!
@@arpitakodagu9854 yes but Grace didn’t even include it in her numbers, only talked about domestic. At least there’s some extra money being made for the movie even if it’s low!
Can we agree that Jennifer Lawrence isn’t actually bad at the box office ? No hard feelings barely had any adds + was R rated however did better than most expensive movies. Jennifer Lawrence for the win!
She’s had dozens of movies that flopped. 😂😂😂
@@b5732280 Not one that didn’t bring its pure production budget back. Only a loss in advertisement. Jennifer Lawrence is a brand
Yesterday was my birthday. My wife asked me what I wanted to do. “I wish there were a good movie to see right now.”
You went to see Challengers?
Challengers was good. I think the provocative scene needed to be longer. If it was more of a relationship it would have been more talked about
Nice updates ^^ Good week & launch of May to Grace & fans
I'm thrilled X-Men '97 is being released weekly. It makes such a difference for me to have anticipation and contemplation between episodes. I think having it all as a binge would've watered down or muted the impact of the twists and taken depth away from the overall experience. This experience has actually led me to really appreciate the weekly release model.
You have an unnatural obsession with Zendaya. It’s creepy.
A lot of shills do
Wow, didn't think Abigail would already be at 5. I think the trailer and marketing of spoilers backfired.🧛♀
Zendaya is more the new Halle Berry than she is a replicate of Kidman or Jolie
Godzilla be still cooking, so happy to see Godzilla still in the top 3!!!
Zendaya is boring sorry.
She’s NOT going to be another Angelina Jolie
Covid-19 really changed the way watch movies today.
Yeah but I feel it was mostly cause by panic from studios
It is important to consider animation length time, the chart is based on minutes, shorter shows will always have a much harder time making it to the top 10
Rebel Moon is getting better all we need now is the director's cut.
Shame on you not even mentioning Godzilla X Kong remains in the Top 10 and it's broken past 500 million
Idk why anyone would think Challengers was going to open big. It’s just a not a big screen movie, after I saw the trailer I thought this is not gonna make bank and more of a streamer. And that’s not to say Zendaya can’t bring in $$, because this movie is not that type of movie.
Grace, I'm confused you didn't call Challengers a success. You were saying if it didn't open with a one in front it would be an embarrassment and I believe $15m was on the higher end of projected box office. So what's with the hesitation? It's almost like you're making a case for saying it's a poor showing.
It’s not mind blowingly successful, but they made money. Very deserving of the B+ but we aren’t gonna be discussing it in perpetuity like we do with say, Barbie
For a supposed major star it is a poor result.
@nailinthefashion
Budget is near 100 million. This needs to make near 180 million to turn a profit. What are you talking about?? 😅
@@JohnSmith-tl8pqevery big actor has a movie that bombed.
Challengers is a success. Everyone involved should be over the moon
Grace, Taking a break from being unplugged on my anniversary trip with my partner to watch Movie Math. Thank you again so much for the 10 year Anniversary shout out! Only thing I've been watching that factors into this is X-Men '97. I will be seeing The Fall Guy this weekend! Haven't seen a new movie in a while.
