Grace you forgot to mention the fact that Godzilla x Kong crossed the $500 million dollar mark worldwide.
Yup noticed that she missed any remarks about Godzilla... Bet if Zendya was it...
Dayum warner eating good
also kung fu panda 2 did the saem and dune part 2 more than 700M
She doesn't mention blockbusters unless there is a female lead that she likes.
@@originaldelta Guys…she liked Godzilla X Kong and gave it a positive review lol.
I think treating Arthouse films as mainstream is why so many people continue to leave cinemas disappointed because Arthouse films aren’t aimed at a mainstream audience.
True. Challengers wasn’t helped by the press / marketing. It was seen as a rom-com (that couldn’t be further from the truth). People expecting a rom-com then actually seeing a art house movie, I can see how they don’t feel happy leaving. Luckily I knew what I was walking into, so I was happy lol
It’s not an “art house movie” at all lol…it’s just a romantic drama with a open ending. Sorry the marketing was misleading (get used to it) but it’s not “art house” it’s a 50+ million sports drama with more artistic integrity than most studio films. That still doesn’t mean it’s an art house movie. That’s ridiculous.
@@luc9388 you're right its clear it is not an art house film but audiences dont have to "get used to it" misleading promotion lmao tf. tickets are way too expensive to not know what you're getting
@@MineralTown then take that up with the marketing department of literally every other movie... I think everyone is overreacting and exaggerating about the marketing being “misleading”. I honestly don’t know what people expected from the film, a Zendaya girl boss rom com movie? Come on people, use your brains and think critically about the marketing you are force fed on your phones. Media literacy is in the gutter in 2024!
@@luc9388 that’s not what media literacy is! ik the creatives don’t edit the trailer but that’s beside the point. the ads are supposed to tell you what the film is about & if you aren’t super tuned into entertainment news you wouldn’t know otherwise. i thought the suicide squad trailers were misleading because it made it look like a good movie, partially by including clips that were cut from the film. the us godzilla movie was misleading because it made it look like bryan cranston was the main characters. these are not good things these are looked down upon
Don’t forget about SANDRA BULLOCK. She IS a movie star! Her last film really proved that and even during the pandemic.
I immediately thought about her. She really attracts people in the theater no matter what the genre is
I’m sorry Grace, but comparing Zendaya to Angelina and Nicole’s heyday is just bonkers.
I think the limited release is annoying because people discuss the movie and spoil things before people can actually see them compared to wide releases.
I think Kirsten Stewart is more a celebrity than a Star.
producers consistently confuse the success of an IP with the appeal of the people starring in it. they remember Twilight being huge and think it was because of Stewart, and mistakenly think audiences will come to something because of her. same with Zendaya and Spider-Man/Dune.
No one is going to the theaters until a blockbuster plays
Not when you can watch them at home a month later
Too bad the AMC theater in my hometown got shut down
I disagree I find it cheap so I go to every movie
Thanks to amc a-list I’m at the theaters every weekend
Unless it's a huge movie I wait
Suggesting Zendaya could get Oscar buzz by working with Scorsese is the funniest part of this video
Zendya should work with Christopher Nolan or Ridley Scott
@@kishenkoolskills90 “Jodie Comer worked with Ridley Scott and now her career is basically dead” - Grace, prolly
Like doesn’t Scorsese always lose, getting in his film will level of the level of prestige for an actor but like they aren’t going to win any Oscars working with him lol
Scorsese doesn’t make oscar level movies?
What is Scorsese going to write for Zendaya?
The trailer for Challengers started with, "The sexiest movie..."
It was too cringe to see at that point.
i still dont understand why anyone would think civil war is going to be a masterpiece or be a big hit overseas
im from canada and when i saw the trailers, it struck me as a typical war film for the US army and nothing more
in fact, im pretty sure it would turn off the overseas viewers because of that trailer, plus the false advertisement of hiding its a car ride with journalists movie, the thing is a dud in my view
I remember some people saying the film would do better overseas than in the US because it was not made by an American and you could tell he had no real knowledge of American culture or politics. The idea was, I suppose, people overseas would see this because "America bad." I guess that didn't work out.
I watched it and the only part I found great was Jessie Plemons character and Kirstin Dunst is married to him in real life
The movie trailer showed something else, The Movie was just about War Journalism but set in American
@@kishenkoolskills90 Most of the consistent praise for the movie has gone to Plemons. I could see him getting a support Oscar nomination.
I liked Civil War a lot but it was never meant to be a big blockbuster. It only has a $50 million budget and no big stars. Kirsten Dunst is the closest to a big star but she hasn't been a box office draw for a long time. I think because of the good reviews and a couple big budget "looking" action scenes, they thought they could market this as a big budget Hollywood action film (which it is definitely not).
Zendaya bigger than Kidman.... Lol. Imagine saying that.
Sounds like typical Grace.
That Zendaya section was never ending. I skipped half of it and it still wouldn't stop. 😂
She's got to appeal to Twitter and wokies. Grace actually thinks Twitter is real life which is why she sometimes focus on niche things most everyday people don't care about.
@@phillconklin382you might prefer “lady ballers”. Bigots and sexists tend to like those types of flicks.
@@phillconklin382 this, there's just no convincing Grace social media is irrelevant to everyone except the people who use it
@@kindofbluenyc that was uncalled for he is right she does bring up things that the general public does not care about and does not effect the movies she is talking about
@@phillconklin382 I like that what’s implicit in your statement is that average people care about any of this shit. They see a couple movies a year and keep it moving.
Hi Grace!
The ARCANE strategy is the one I consider the best: 3 parts in 3 consecutive weeks.
It’s my favorite so far, it felt like watching a movie each time but you could also take your time with each episode of you want, and got to discuss without needing to binge all of it up front.
The batch release. I'm surprised Netflix only uses the model for Arcane and some reality TV/Korean shows.
I honestly think it's better than splitting shows into parts and releasing them a month a part.
Maybe the parts method works better as they keep doing it with their biggest shows.
I think $15M opening for Challengers is quite respectable for this type of movie. I’m surprised it made this much, this totally feels like a streaming movie.
Its a good movie, the trailers make it look like a streaming movie, but the directing, pace, cinematography are on another level.
what type
The tennis match scenes are incredibly well shot and cinematic.
The problem is that they spent more than 50 M on it .
not for this budget , marketing or cast
Challengers actually over performed by 3 million
But the 2nd week drop-off will make it normal total.
Tennis movies don’t do well.
It’s sad cause this one is so well made and the tennis scenes are all-timers. Best I’ve seen Bella!
Zendaya should just be Zendaya she doesn't need to be the next anymore! She should be allowed to play whatever roles she wants even muture stuff
If Zendeya's what passes for A list in 2024, Hollywood deserves all the tough luck it's getting. Sheesh
A woman with 200 million followers is very much A list
@@MD19853 Audrey Hepburn, Daniel Day-Lewis, Sean Connery never had millions of followers. Being an A-list ACTOR has nothing to do with social media clout
@@natashi7511 In that case, I certainly would consider Zendaya to be an A-list actor. Have you seen her perform in anything?
Well she’s not b list 😂 her fame exceeds that definition
Nobody i know, is talking about this film!! 2 dudes and pretty skinny chick and tennis, really doesn't have appeal to most folks in my community!
Another week of Hollywood slowly decaying away in relevance and revenue .
since when do arthouse films have a 50 million dollar budget. I don’t think either of the movies you are calling arthouse are truly arthouse…
Agreed. But in her mind if it isn’t Marvel or Star Wars its “art house” now. What a joke.
I don't understand the love for Zendeya.
She’s talented and gorgeous. I love how she gets the incels all triggered
Zendayas fan base is bigger thn Nicole Kidman's? I HIGHLY doubt that.
I know the absurdity. You're not sure if you can't open a movie you just have a lot of Instagram that does not translate to cash.
@@damoncurrie7103 right? They may have some teenage fans but ppl who actually spends money to watch movies are not part of that insta cult
They’ll like her instagram but won’t get out for her movie.
Maybe Nicole's has diminished while Zendaya's continues to grow?
@@JoybuzzerX this I somewhat agree but even thn it will take some time for Zendaya to catch Nicole Kidman
LOL THAT ZENDAYA SECTION WAS SO LONG!
Why does Grace think Glen Powell has more people talking about him than Sydney Sweeney? Way more people know who Sydney is than Glen
Just $15 million at the box office?! Movies are struggling.. 😢
Referring to Zandaya and Kristen Stewart as stars seems awfully generous.
Technically, the only reason the movie is getting any attention is because of Zendaya.
Are we even sure 2025 will be a better year than this year? We all thought 2024 would be better than 2023 and it wasn't.
@@joshbecker389 So many movies flopped and underperformed in 2023 the strikes are only part of the problem.
Eh, I agree, not sure it'll be better... However, it could happen: the last 5 months of 2023 were pretty empty and it has been the same in the first months of 2024 (just 3 big movies that could attract a large audience in the last 4 months... I'm talking about Dune 2, GxK and Kung Fu Panda 4). 2025 could have more bigger movies on the line
2024 isn’t even half over.
@@ssshar2176 True, but the box office this year is well behind 2023's box office at the same point last year. And 2023 was already a weak year. It's not going well
@@crestedargo46632023 was technically the best year for Hollywood post covid so for 2024 to unlikely to surpass 2023 is troubling
Most people not very active on social media don't know who Zendaya is or do not know her career. I actually think the movie was a smart choice. This was her first movie as a lead, come on. She doesn't an extensive resume. I am sure she will have a great career.
People are being waaayyyyy to hard on this girl. The movie is well received by people that matter. She’s doing fine…
Does Grace consider anything not to be a comic book franchise to be “arthouse”?
not just her everyone that word gets thrown around way to much
I love X-men 97. I wish more ppl were watching. I like the weekly release schedule personally
Love you grace but no one will ever be angelina Jolie ever look at how gal gadot failed at that
Another video talking about Barbie.
Yes. Studios need to train audiences to go back to theaters for other movies besides blockbusters.
We not going back😂
I agree! Especially when they manage to market them properly. It's better for the business to promote for mid budget again in the long rin
@@Theinfamouskiki411whos gonna tell him lmao 😅😅😅😅
@@originaldelta homie, we've been telling them since 2021... More like, "When are they going to finally accept the reality of the situation."
People are less social that they were even 10 years ago. If people are going to the theaters, they are most likely going by themselves.
Don't forget that Luca Guadagnino put Timothee Chalamet on the map with Call Me By Your Name.
Because Timothee was willing to put in the hard work and was a fantastic actor in Call Me By Your Name. Zendaya accepted a movie role and treated her cast mate like she was better than them but she was not.
Grace I have a question. How do you who the box office draw is? There’s more than one actor on projects. For me I typically see movies not for specific actors, but for other reasons.
the time of actors and actress bringing people to the movies is over people just don't do that anymore i think partly because the veil is lifted and with socials every knows who these stars are so there is not as much starstruck anymore
Kong / Godzilla over $500 million 👍
14 minutes about a small film with small apeal? p.s. Godzilla and kung fu panda magaged to reach more than 500M (KFP officially outgrossed puss in boots) and dune part 2 more than 700M.
Business, business, business... Grace, some parts of the film industry are actually also interested in QUALITY. And talent. Big talent and big commercial appeal are not always the same.
You make movies so you can make movies.
How do you make movies without money?
Challengers is an "arthouse movie" now lol? I saw it this weekend and found it incredibly accessible and wildly entertaining. Feels very strange to compare it to the likes of Poor Things imo
I thought the artistic flourishes/score and pacing made it feel a *little more art house. But agree it’s still mainstream!
i swear people don't know what art house is they think anything that is not big IP is arthouse civil war wasn't art house either just cause A24 makes something doesn't make it art house by detention arthouse is not meant to have mainstream appeal and no just because poor things trending on twitter means the average moviegoer knows what it even is
Saying anything just to avoid admitting the movie flopped lol
To the line “who doesn’t want to work with Zendaya?” Shouldn’t it be “Who doesn’t want to work with Scorsese?” 😅😊
I enjoyed the final scene the acting and score, so I gave Challengers an A Cinemascore. I also had a good crowd on opening night. Very cinematic experience. If I streamed it, I would have probably gone with the B+.
Challengers was a movie for Twitter. No one asked for for a weird throuples tennis movie. Even if it was great which it wasn’t people don’t care. Who is surprised by this?!?
I'm not surprised. But Zendaya's PR team is, for sure.
I think if the characters were more likable people would actually enjoy their time, but everyone I know that saw it apart from Grace was mad they saw it. That's pretty much filmmaking 101, make characters people root for and to do that they have to either have a good personality, sympathetic story, or be a good person. From what I heard this movie has none of that.
Shame on you not even mentioning Godzilla X Kong remains in the Top 10 and it's broken past 500 million
considering its an r-rated rom com i think the opeining weekend is really good
it's not a rom com
@@joshbecker389yes, it is. A sports rom com
@@joshbecker389 it was promoted as a romance drama.
Godzilla be still cooking, so happy to see Godzilla still in the top 3!!!
When I see Zendaya. I see a kid even though she is an adult. Also, me personally, I didn’t know anything of the 2 other actors.
Why bc she has an a cup?

Kristen stewart is a star? Ummm 😂 twilight came out like 20yrs ago
2008 was 20 years ago?

She’s incredible in Underwater (2020) and underrated in Snow White and the Huntsman imo
😅
@@nailinthefashionunderwater she was decent. But nothing about snowwhite was remotely decent
A friend wanted to see Godzilla x Kong this weekend so I went with her... it was my third time seeing the movie lol. But the showing we went to was still almost sold out! Everyone had a great time though, audience was laughing and clapping (although the dad sitting next to me fell asleep and was snoring at one point, but his kids were having a blast!) - glad it's done so well at the box office over this month, it just crossed $500k worldwide!
Rabel Moon part 1 was bad. But the second one was awful. That man has made only two good movie and one semi-good movie but people hype him up so much!
So they spent 55 million to make 15 million smhhhhhh.
Challengers was a VERY bad movie SMH. Best part was that song that is stuck in my head lol.
Zendaya just doesn’t have it. I couldn’t imagine watching her in a leading role. I can barely tolerate her in supporting roles. She just doesn’t have it
She has a great career. Very talented.
And what exactly do you have?
She has it. Her aura. Her presence. That’s why she’s offered the things she’s offered. I mean she works for Bernard arnualt richest man in the world and dined with the ambani family in India. She def has it 😂
Agreed. She's not good looking, funny, charismatic or anything you want 'stars' to be. Just boring. I don't understand her appeal at all.
Challengers is being marketed as a steamy romantic drama, there should be a huge audience for this kind of movie. But the audience did not show up, this is proof how much of a superstar Zendaya really is.
The male protagonists share homoerotic moments and Zendaya's character unapologetically cheats on her devoted husband. This is not a happy ending mainstream romantic drama. It would have made less than $1M without Zendaya. It's going to be the highest grossing tennis movie ever released
@@nataliajimenez1870 thats cute thinking it would have not just gone straight to streaming if zendaya was not in it
I already saw the Fall Guy last Wednesday 🤔 🇪🇺. Why is it not released yet in the United States? BTW, I wasn’t into it and neither was the rest of the crowd. All the industry references flew over everybody’s heads.
I kind of want to go see challengers, but I’m too lazy to go to theaters.😓
Go!
Please go! It’s such a great experience!
I thought Challengers was pretty mainstream, but apparently, general audiences don't think so. Maybe a more gradual rollout would have been better.
I think the subject matter was always going to lean more toward a niche market.
Gay scenes in a movie is not mainstream!
It would have been better served by a slow rollout to build word-of-mouth.

It's not misogyny that holds back actresses. It's bc women don't turn out for those movies. Barbie was unique in its appeal. It's the same story with the wnba. Women don't show up. Caitlin Clark is the Barbie of women's basketball
you know why barbie proved guys like blowing shit up and bad guys being punched by good guys and girls like pink and girlly things the proof is right there people need to admit it

She will never be big as actual movie starts. For multiple reasons, she is not really attractive and the star system is falling apart
The industry has changed so the merits are different. Zendaya is definitely a star. Using any merits but especially todays merits
i know the name Zendeya this year because she pissed off the gamer community with her elitist dissing of the hobby whilst on a presser. oh and that movie dune, i never saw it, liked the first one.
It's truly mind boggling that most young actresses in Hollywood - including Zendaya - don't look at Julia Roberts as the blue print. Early in her career she built audience connection with commercially successful timeless romantic comedies (My Best Friends Wedding, Pretty Woman, Notting Hill) and became America's sweetheart. Then you pivot to dramatic Oscar roles (Erin Brockovich). Zendaya make a great romantic comedy as soon possible!!
ia! she should be in lighthearted things. she cant ride off her acting range but maybe she can ride off her likability
Wow, didn't think Abigail would already be at 5. I think the trailer and marketing of spoilers backfired.🧛♀
3 Body Problem looking huge on the Netflix chart, almost double the figures of 2nd place, yet Grace completely blanks it??
Hey Grace! I’ve been binging all the live streams I’ve missed the past few weeks and I am delighted to watch this wonderful episode of Movie Math! It’s always the highlight of my Sunday 🏆 Lots of love from Montreal, Canada 🇨🇦
Zendaya is more the new Halle Berry than she is a replicate of Kidman or Jolie
X-men 97 is quality content. Doesn’t need to make the overall chart when it’s one of the most popular Disney originals
And GODZILLA/KONG: NEW EMPIRE moves back UP a notch and CROSSES THE $500 MILLION MARK....There. Helped ya out Grace😏
Rebel moon felt like it was made by AI
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Don't know... I think AI would have made something better 😂
Challengers was good. I think the provocative scene needed to be longer. If it was more of a relationship it would have been more talked about
Kung fu panda 4 has crossed 500 million in worldwide box office. This women said it was not going to 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I just watched dune2, Zendaya has no screen presence she was ok, but considering her role she should have been way more. While she may get bigger than Angelia Jolie or Kidman, it wont be due to her acting ability, it will be due to Marketing.
She has massive onscreen presence
A huge chunk of Zendaya fans are from the MCU and Dune. They (me included) have no interest in watching her in a love triangle drama
I love it when Grace, is all business mode but full of backhanded compliment! Everyone she talks about was grateful complement while throwing out shade 😅.
Nome is Save.
This woman is delulu. Bigger than Nicole Kidman? Lol
Stop calling people, genius, pls
Poor Things did get a Cinema score , "A−" on an A+ to F scale (for those who are not aware how it works), way higher than Challengers and Civil War
I like Cavill, but he's never been a star. Can you name one film he's been the lead of that has done well, not made a lot of money, but has been considered as doing really well and performing above expectations in the box office?
55 milly? Yikes
I don’t think Hollywood as a new mega actor or actress that draws in people. As you said Grace Tom Cruise is the last true movie star.
We don’t have an actress who has that draw, like Julia Roberts for example 🤷♀️
The whole world isn’t just America
…yet.
If a show is only 25-30 minutes long, I'm waiting to binge it. And that's only if I remember it exists by the time all the episodes are out. I'll begrudgingly watch hour+ shows once a week, but half hour ones that aren't just silly comedies... they don't give me the same satisfaction weekly as something an hour long.
Yesterday was my birthday. My wife asked me what I wanted to do. “I wish there were a good movie to see right now.”
You went to see Challengers?
Why no mention of Three Body Problem Grace??? Brushed it right off!!

Kung Fu Panda 4 has finally surpassed PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH!
Remember when she said it will not 😂😂😂😂😂😂I mean puss in boots 2 is my favorite animated movie of this decade but we all knew the kung fu panda 4 was gonna do better.
Underscoring Baby Reindeer a bit there. It grew a record breaking 408% in its second week. The best week-to-week growth ever. Word of mouth truly propelled this series forward.
For comparison, the show with with the 2nd highest growth, Beef, grew by 106% in its second week.
An amazing performance and will definitely make Netflix likely to sign off on another project.
I think she’s annoyed that she didn’t see this coming (not even sure if she’s got round to watching it). It feels like the equivalent of Fleabag’s success. This is gonna have a long tail culturally.
They should’ve showed off some of the cool shots during the tennis matches, especially from the end of the film, in the trailers.
12:52 Who doesn't want to work with Zendaya? Appearently Paul Schrader
3 Body Problem is an undisputed success
It is!!
Rebel Moon will drop so hard second week
It didnt even make it through the first week before it started to drop. Those Netflix numbers on tuesday are going to have it walking off a cliff 😬
I still hope he makes the third so I can keep pointing and laughing, I pirate it anyway so it’s water off a duck’s back either way
the #1 film is at $15m, art house or main stream commercial does the chart even matter anymore at these numbers??
It had a budget of 55 million
Theres been like 5 500mil+ movies this year. Thats huge
Zendaya has a long way to go before she'll reach Nicole Kidman status.
I really liked Challengers. but Zendaya is average at best. Mike Faist and Josh O'Connor carry this film.
A movie with Faist, O'Connor and a good but unknown actress would have struggled to make $1M. Zendaya is the one that's selling the tickets to this movie
@@nataliajimenez1870Right. I would never see this movie if Zendaya was not in it.
Challengers has 3 not very likeable characters and there playing tennis. Thats a tough sell. Zendaya might have a level of internet followers but that doesnt translate to box office tickets.
Its time to be honest Zendaya is not a box office draw and it time to stop denying it and still enjoy her for what she is. Its okay she can work her way up but she is not there.
I'm thrilled X-Men '97 is being released weekly. It makes such a difference for me to have anticipation and contemplation between episodes. I think having it all as a binge would've watered down or muted the impact of the twists and taken depth away from the overall experience. This experience has actually led me to really appreciate the weekly release model.
Baby reindeer was an incredible show and touched on some extremely important topics. I hope it sweeps at the Emmy’s
