      True. Challengers wasn’t helped by the press / marketing. It was seen as a rom-com (that couldn’t be further from the truth). People expecting a rom-com then actually seeing a art house movie, I can see how they don’t feel happy leaving. Luckily I knew what I was walking into, so I was happy lol

    • @luc9388
      @luc9388 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      It’s not an “art house movie” at all lol…it’s just a romantic drama with a open ending. Sorry the marketing was misleading (get used to it) but it’s not “art house” it’s a 50+ million sports drama with more artistic integrity than most studio films. That still doesn’t mean it’s an art house movie. That’s ridiculous.

    • @MineralTown
      @MineralTown 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@luc9388 that’s not what media literacy is! ik the creatives don’t edit the trailer but that’s beside the point. the ads are supposed to tell you what the film is about & if you aren’t super tuned into entertainment news you wouldn’t know otherwise. i thought the suicide squad trailers were misleading because it made it look like a good movie, partially by including clips that were cut from the film. the us godzilla movie was misleading because it made it look like bryan cranston was the main characters. these are not good things these are looked down upon

    i still dont understand why anyone would think civil war is going to be a masterpiece or be a big hit overseas
    im from canada and when i saw the trailers, it struck me as a typical war film for the US army and nothing more

Kirsten Dunst is the closest to a big star but she hasn't been a box office draw for a long time. However, it could happen: the last 5 months of 2023 were pretty empty and it has been the same in the first months of 2024 (just 3 big movies that could attract a large audience in the last 4 months... Shame on you not even mentioning Godzilla X Kong remains in the Top 10 and it's broken past 500 million

    Idk why anyone would think Challengers was going to open big. It’s just a not a big screen movie, after I saw the trailer I thought this is not gonna make bank and more of a streamer. And that’s not to say Zendaya can’t bring in $$, because this movie is not that type of movie.

    Grace, I'm confused you didn't call Challengers a success. You were saying if it didn't open with a one in front it would be an embarrassment and I believe $15m was on the higher end of projected box office. So what's with the hesitation? It's almost like you're making a case for saying it's a poor showing.

      It’s not mind blowingly successful, but they made money. Very deserving of the B+ but we aren’t gonna be discussing it in perpetuity like we do with say, Barbie

      For a supposed major star it is a poor result.

      Budget is near 100 million. This needs to make near 180 million to turn a profit. What are you talking about?? 😅

    Only thing I've been watching that factors into this is X-Men '97. I will be seeing The Fall Guy this weekend! Haven't seen a new movie in a while.
