It wasn't even the last time this was considered. In 1956, during the Suez-Canal crisis, the French Primeminister Guy Mollet suggested to the British to merge the two countries under the name 'Frangleterre'. Reasons was that France at the time was economically having a tough time, and even tougher times with its colonies. The suggestion though was brushed off by the Brits immediately and then promptly forgotten, and only rediscovered in 2006 in British archives. And since the Brits refused closer cooperation with the French, France instead opted for a slowly growing closer cooperation with West Germany.
Not really, truth is Britain was going through an even more worse time domestically. Actually, the French economy was recovering rapidly from 1950 onwards, while Britain was facing stagnation and crisis. The real reason for the 1956 union proposal had more to do with the US and the USSR. The French government believed that by merging the two countries, they could stand up to both Washington and Moscow and thus create a third world order aimed at keeping the colonial empires intact and Europe relevant.

@ German logistics in 1939 and 1940 were HORRIBLE, as they just didn't have the time to manufacture enough trucks to ferry supplies from the depots to the troops. Heavy use of horse drawn cart and having the advance follow the railways alleviated the problem (in France that also screwed Paris over, as French railways have been built with the capital as a central hub and a focus on ferrying things and people from and to Paris - meaning all major railways from the German border went there), but the situation was unsustenaible on the long term, and when both the Polish and French campaigns ended the Heer was badly overstretched. By Operation Barbarossa there was one more year of build up with a larger industrial base and the seizing of almost every vehicle of the French army, and yet that one failed because once again the Heer overstretched its supply lines (in part because using the railways here proved nearly impossible, as Russian railways had a different gauge and the Red Army had a nasty habit of blowing up the trains before retreating) and THIS enemy was still capable and willing to fight back, resulting in the Wehrmacht being beaten back and barely avoiding a full on rout. At which point being on the defensive and having months to replace or integrate the Soviet railways made the logistical situation easier until Bomber Command started dropping naval mines in the canals that to this day are an integral part of Germany's transport network.
Question is would the French want to live under the reign of the British monarchy? The Windsor dynasty played key elements in both world wars. King George V and King George VI not only gave speeches but used their military influence to aid in the war efforts mostly in the royal navy. Otherwise there isnt a great deal we can be sure would be gained, other than the UK having to foot the bill post-war for Frances rebuilding. Its not hard to imagine it would have had a negative effect on troop and civilian morale for either side, it would have played really well into the German propaganda. In general the proprosal is very unrealisticly hyped up, but the fact of a matter is that France wouldnt have contributed much to the new union given they were occupied anyway so it would have just been the UK+ some colonies to police and a larger navy assuming there werent massive political downsides caused by what could be easily seen by the average Brit/Frenchman as being sold out by their war time governments forcing them into a union without any mandate.
