Thank you for this review, Leo! I've been waiting to hear your take on this unit! I bought the mini and just placed my order for the Ampero 2 stomp because I needed the midi I/O for me to integrate it to my board, and hearing you preferring the 2 stomp over the mini made me finally decided on selling my mini for now so I can save up for other pedals.
You are welcome and I'm happy to have been of some help!!! Thank you for sharing your final decision!
Great work Leo, as allways!
Thank you sooo much, really appreciated!!!
Bought one about 2 weeks ago as a gift of new persian year (1403) to myself😊.
Totally lovely unit and a real assistant to practice and make some good moments. Thank you Leo for your great description and of course, you have a musical soul.❤❤
You are welcome and I'm really happy that you like the music and the videos!!
According to Hotone, the Mini is based on the previous-gen modelling, while the Stomp II is the current, newest generation. I've actually heard some head-to-head comparisons where I preferred the Mini. I've always wanted a front end pedal that does EQ, compression, and boost. I've thought of having one made or some pedals rehoused as one unit, but this could do all that for less money and then I'd also have a mollion more functions. Price to performance this blows everything else away!
Hi, thank you so much for sharing!
Nice one Leo. Beautiful Song. I was waiting for JAWS to appear out of the water and scare the S' out of us!! 🦈
Thank you so much....I'm really happy that you like the music!!!!
Ah ah....the location where I have taken the images is Ponza in Italy....no JAWS... 😀
😂😂😂
Excellent review as always!
I think the more affordable sister-brand Valeton GP-200LT offers more VFM, including 2 more footswitches, an FX loop, MIDI in/out, 2 expression pedal jacks, 2 more effect blocks, 10 more user IR slots, 80 seconds longer looper etc.
Hi, thank you for sharing and I'm really happy that you appreciate the review!!!
But which sounds better?
Riguardo alla pedaliera, secondo me è proprio carina!
Thanks, nice review as always, I have the Valeton GP100 and GP200 smaller brand from Ampero, with more options for what I play.
You are welcome and I'm happy that you like the review!
Thank you also for sharing your opinion!
Great review and fantastic demo song. Seems like a great unit that is incredibly small for the features. Is it too small though? That Valeton GP200 is a very compelling unit, all things considered. What are your thoughts on using the mini as a standalone, all-in-one guitar rig? Maybe add an expression pedal and you're all set. Maybe they could add the Y-cable for 2 outputs like you showed? I also agree with you that only 1 output is a fumble by Hotone, but there are workarounds like you suggest. Keep up the great work Leo! God bless and rock on 🎸
Thank you so much, I'm really happy that you like the music!!!
For gigging I would always need more than 2 foot switches, and this unit lacks midi...therefore for me is a no go. But for practicing is ok.
Thank you!
@@LeoGibsonGtrYou can get separate 2 button foot switch and connect it via the expression pedal input, to give 4 total foot switches 👍
Thank you for sharing!
I would like to add, that the ampero mini has a internal drum machine, the ampero II does not have one. So I guess the ampero mini could be more intended as a practice "mini" tool.
Hi, good points, thank you for sharing!
Good point! I have a big question. Is the drum machine integrated with the looper? I mean does it adjust the beat to the beginning of the loop and the beat remains steady (like with Nux one Zoom) or it is not integrated (like in Valeton) and after 20 seconds the drum and loop tempos go separate ways?
Your comparison videos are excellent and very thorough - thank you! Would you mind disclosing what you use to create the drum sounds on your demo songs (if not a live drummer!)?
Thank you so much, I'm really happy that you like the video!!!
Sure, I use EZDrummer 3.
@@LeoGibsonGtr Thanks for quick reply - it sounds amazing after just a quick look!
You are welcome and yes...it's a great software!
Much thans! Great review, as usual!
I'll stick to my Ampero Stomp II. That unit's output is absolutely clean!
When I tested the Line6 Pod, it was terrible - as long as it was connected, there were continual noises, depending on the FX chosen! For making clean recordings, it was unusable! I just bought a NUX Might space, its also decent, but not a match for the Ampero - according to my ears, anyway ;-)
You are welcome, and I'm happy that you like the review!
Thank you also for sharing your findings...I would also stay with the Stomp II...
looks very convinient for mobile practice rig.. also sounds good for gigs 👌
Hi, thank you for sharing! Yes, for practicing in mobility it's pretty cool...
the intro song is so tasteful!
Thank you so much, I'm really happy that you like the music!!!
grazie!
Leo, excellent video as usual but I think you missed a point here. I don't see this as the competition of other pedalboards, for the price I think is a direct competition of the Nux mighty plug and the Fender whatever the name is. I see this as a mighty plug with way more features (specially the display) and as a very powerful practice tool. Cheers and no doubt you are the best reviewer of these pedals :)
Hi, thank you so much for sharing your findings and I'm happy that you like the reviews.
Interesting point of you....The mighty plug is even smaller and lighter...it's one of the device I used the most....
Incredible song! Leo is a Shredder, but also plays with lots of feeling.
Wow, thank you so much for such an amazing compliment!!!!! I'm super happy that you like the song and the playing!!!
Please, Leo, do the shootout between the Flamma FX 150, the NuX MG 400 and the Valeton GP 200!!! Especially regarding the most common amp model simulations in each.
Hi...yes, this is something I would like to do...I need time....as it's gonna be a pretty difficult video...
Great video Leo, I think this mini unit is preety awesome and I wanted to know how is the Dynamic response and tone feel on this mini unit ?
Thank you, I'm really happy that you like the video!
I have not done detailed tests yet, I typically check out the dynamic range management in my comparison videos. Nevertheless the unit is pretty responsive to our touch, and maybe the demo song can provide some examples, especially in the initial part.
Thank you!
Excellent questions
Great video my friend
Thank you sooo much!!!
Your review and musicianship are impeccable as always, thanks much. That said, I found the sound quality and options seriously lacking in comparison with the Ampero 2 Stomp, which is well worth the additional money, both in terms of sound quality and useability as you said. Also the editing is very persnickety without the three knobs, IMO; for me, very important.
In fact, the A2S compares very favorably with my HX Stomp; both are excellent, but the HX doesn't have the Matchless Emporer Clean (AFIK); please correct me if I'm wrong.
Thank you so much for such amazing compliments that really make me happy!!! yes, I do agree… I also preferred the Stomp II….
thank you
HX Stomp is rubbish
@@gazzyb85 A thoughtful and intelligent review..... :)
Leo! Grreat video as always, going to rephrase the question i asked you before, which of the smaller/cheaper multi effect units, in your personal opinion, would you say has the best reverbs and delays out of all the ones you've tried?
Hi, thank you so much, I'm happy that you like the videos!
Well, it's really hard to answer this question with a black or white opinion, as it depend from your taste, personal preferences, etc...therefore with my opinion the risk is to suggest you something that is not ok for you.
That's why I try to make all these videos and comparisons... I try to give you all the elements you may need to judge your own.
I'm sorry and thank you for your question!
@@LeoGibsonGtr its simple, im personally after YOUR specific opinion given your tastes, experience, and what you like, since you've done extensive testing and im sure you have tried to push these devices to see what you can get, its ok to share your personal thoughts, and as you say in your videos, "you may not like what i think and this is totally fine!", so its ok, its totally fine, let me know what you think. We really do value your very educated and experienced thoughts and opinions. :D
Hi Leo, your videos are great! What’s your take on the sound quality difference between the Ampero Stomp II and the GX-100?
Thank you so much, I'm really happy that you appreciate the videos!!!
Well, pretty hard question...I should do a direct comparison to answer properly....You can get great tones with both the units...Maybe in the coming weeks....thank you!
GX-100 is ahead in sound quality, responsiveness (in terms of playing dynamics) and processing power but behind in the user interface. If you like tetris game ,then you can also try GT-1000/Core. Also you might need a DI Box at the end of Boss processors. I do not know why but Boss keeps using unbalanced outputs for decades.
Thanks Leo! Do you feel that the Hotone Ampero 2 unit tones would be better for home recording over the Mini? I dont gig
.. Just a home user.
You are welcome!
I have not done a direct comparison, but (if I remember it well) I was able to obtain better tones with the Stomp II.
Thank you!
I have both the Ampero II Stomp and the Ampero Mini (received today). I think your comparison is pretty accurate, and the only thing I would say about it is that the A2S MIDI is terrible. Hard wired CC#'s per position in the signal chain rather than being assignable to a blcok regardless of position, and NO parameter control at all. They really should have looked at the HX Stomp's MIDI implementation, and copied it - it's fantastic. And, Hotone now has a 2 year history of providing hardly anything substantial in the very few updates that have been released - really disappointing. This is why I think I will be selling my A2S and keeping the Mini. The Mini's price point makes sense with its feature set, but the Ampero II Stomp feature set doesn't justify the price in my opinion. At some point soon, I will test whether or not the Mini reacts to simple MIDI commands over USB (like PCs). When I do, I will circle back to you. If that works, then I will ahve to see if I can figure out what else is supported via CC's.
I tested using a WIDI UHost connected to the USB C port on the Mini, and connected from my iPhone. I then sent a PC3 to the Mini using the MidiPad app, and the Mini responded by changing to patch 3. Perfect! I wish Hotone would publish the MIDI table so we could see what else it might respond to.
Hi Steve, thank you so much for sharing!!! Really super helpful info...and I do agree with you....Hotone should publish the MIDI table....
@@LeoGibsonGtr I contacted Support, and they acknowledged that MIDI over USB works. They don't have a MIDI table for the Mini to provide, but they directed me to the manual for the old Ampero (same technology) where there is a MIDI CC table. I tried several CCs, and they do work. I noticed that the old Ampero only supported one CTRL, and the Mini supports 3, so it may take a little experimenting to determine if all 3 can be invoked via MIDI, but there is a CC in the Ampero table for the one supported by the old Ampero (and it works), so I expect there are 2 more CCs that have to be discovered through experimentation.
Hi, thank you for sharing, super useful info!
I prefer this one over the Valeton GP 200, because to my ears the high gain sounds are much better. Software is very good as well. Main disatvantage for me is that the drum machine, which is quite OK actually, can't be recorded, at least I didn't find any solution to do so. I‘m using the Ampero for headphone practise and a little recording sometimes as well.
Hi, thank you so much for sharing....unfortunately I don't have a solution for the drum machine issue you are mentioning...if someone knows....please drop here a message.
Thank you!
Hi Leo, two questions if I may:
- On Looper mode, could you please clarify wether it is possible to undo/cancel the last overdub without clearing the whole loop? The manual is unclear.
- how would you compare the Ampero Mini drum machine patterns quality against other budget multi effects such as the Zoom G1 four or the Nux MG 300?
Thanks!
Thanks Leo. Very confused product planning to issue a new products based on the old amp modeling system. Also it had to hav a knob to swiftly go to other presets.
You are welcome and thank you for sharing!
Maybe Hotone thought that the new amp modelling algorithms had to be paired with the better ADA converters...it's just an hypothesis.
Actually swiping the screen, you can change the presets.
Thank you!
Excellent review. Are you goiing to do a comparison with NUX MG-400 ?
Thank you so much, I'm happy that you appreciate the video!
It would be an interesting comparison...I have to think about it....thanks
In 2012 zoom released the G5 multi-effect unit. This ancient unit allowed you to place anything in any block as many times as the processor power would allow. So you could have 9 reverbs or delays if you wanted. You could chain multiple amps if you wanted to. You could not do parallel signal paths, but that was the only real limitation. The UI was of its time but was logical and controls were at you finger tips. Now we get things like the Ampero. Which are designed to be limited. The blocks are locked into a function. You cannot overwrite the factory presets. Is this advancement? Where is the Intelligent Harmonizer that follows what key you are in? I wish zoom would remake the G5 in a metal case but with modern advancements. I'd buy that in a heartbeat. Nice review.
Hi, thank you for sharing your experience and your findings and I'm really happy that you have appreciated the review!
Thanks for the info. In your opinion, which unit like this has the most bang for the buck. Too many to choose from. Seems like you have tested most of them. Boss, nux, ampero, etc..
Hi, thank you so much, I'm happy that you like the videos!

@@LeoGibsonGtr fair enough.
Thank you for your patience and your comprehension!
You can put a 2 button switch in the expression that Hotone also makes and can be used with usb midi foot switch like the air switch thing,
Thank you for sharing!
Hi Leo.
I'm thinking about to buy this just as a Fx unit yo put at the end of my 4 pedals gigboard, to use as reverb/delay/trem unit.
How did you find the quality of these fx on the Mini?
Thank you for your videos!
You are welcome!
I think the quality is good...but of course it's a matter of taste...expecially with effects, it really depends on what you like / prefer.
Thank you!
Hi Leo, nice demo. Can you help me choosing between valeton gp200 and mooer ge 300 🙏🏻 ❤
Hi, you can check out this video where I compared the GP 200 vs the GE 300: th-cam.com/video/ZdKlTxdrMwQ/w-d-xo.html
Thank you!
Hi Leo, usually you talk about latency for all the units.
I’m actually considering this one to put in the main pedalboard with other analog pedals, obviously with a switching system (I think the Ehx super switcher). The Ampero should control modulation and delay at the same time.
Very interesting model, but I’m scared about the “click” sound due to the latency when switching different preset of the super switcher, can you answer me about this aspect?
Hi,
thank you for reaching out.
Unfortunately, my latency tests are related to time it takes for the pedal to make a sound, after you pick the string and not the latency when you change preset.
Having done this clarification, I will see what I can do....
Thank you!
Grazie 🖖@@LeoGibsonGtr
Excellent review! Love the size, screen etc but as far as I can tell, the "Harmony" effect is not intelligent (does not adjust harmony based on the "Key"). Same problem with my Valeton GP-200... disappointing...
Hi, thank you, I'm really happy that you like the review!
Thank you also for sharing your findings!
Do you think the ampero mini is better than the sonicake matribox? I know u said it's competing with the valeten jr and the flama 150. I wonder how it stacks up vs the matribox
Hi, I'm not quite sure...I need to do a direct comparison to answer properly...maybe in the next weeks.
Thank you!
I was going to ask exactly the same question. I have the Matribox but am curious as to how this compares in sound quality. I've gotten some good tones from the Matribox by tweaking a few presets but I know they already came out with an updated version and that pissed me off actually. I'm wondering if this is better since I believe they're from the same manufacturer.
@@mr.d.572 I was alil pissed myself seeing that there was a matribox 2 already out so fast. The MB2 has more amps models, a bigger screen, and more inputs. Besides that, they both sound exactly the same. When i upgrade it's going to be with one of the big dogs. It will be the quad cortex or the fender tone master pro. I'm good with my sonicake until then tho👌
How is the Ampero Mini compared to NUX Amp Academy in terms of only amp+cab modelling and overall quality of the sound? I understand that Ampero Mini has much more pedals/effects/features, but to me the basic sound is like a foundation for everything else is much more important. I saw your review on Amp Academy (which is great too) - the latency is much better, but is it the thing to worry about those too devices?
Hi, good points....a direct comparison would be interesting....I would need to find the time to do it....
I would love to know if there is a tone difference between this unit and the Ampero One as they are seemingly almost the same hardware specs
Hi, interesting point...maybe I will check it out...on paper there is a difference, as the Ampero Mini has 112 Db of dynamic range, where the Ampero one 114...
thank you!
12:40 USB MIDI - it is possible to control some things via USB MIDI, but it needs a USB host, like Xsonic Airstep, CME Uhost, PC or mobile device.
Hi, thank you for sharing!
Hi Leo,it has midi over usb fyi 💪
Hi, thank you for sharing, very useful info!!!
I know this is getting picky but we value your opinion on this Leo.
Is there any way you could give a 1 to 10 star rating on amp tones alone ..for clean crunch and heavy sounds of each modeler.
Like out of 10, would the ampero get like a 5?
Hi, interesting suggestion....I have to thing about it....you know, I received a lot of angry comments in my video comparison when I was using the thumbs up and down....let's imagine if I start giving ratings on such a debatable thing like tone....:)
@LeoGibsonGtr
Yeah I can only imagine. If you did give something above a 6 I bet people would be very interested.
I guess I just want someone to stop me from buying it..lol
Please make a video with pitch shifter how it performes on this Ampero Mini
Hi, thank you for your suggestion!
Is it possible to use more than 1 ir at the same time?
I saw more vids, the Mini can be connected to a midi footswitch.
Hi, thank you for sharing!
Have you notice how it alters the tone of guitar signal when plugged into an amp and everything is turned off from pedals to amp and cab and EQ. I feel like you can’t use it as a pedal only like using only fx pedal inside of it because you can’t bypass it totally and it thins out the tone.
Hi, I didn't try to connect it to an amp, actually. Therefore thank you for your observation!
Grande brano opening!!!!!
cannot find any Hotone and Helix guitar processors. I think they are sold out.
Hi, thank you for sharing! I didn't know...
Can you put headphone out for silent practice?
Hi, yes we can
Thank you for your question.
Hi, pretty different units and in different price points...I would rather compare MX5 vs Ampero Stomp II.
Nevertheless, I would go with the mini....just in order to save money.
Thank you!
"I have the G1Four. Regarding the Amps? Is it worth switching to this Mini Ampero? Thank you very much!!!"
Hi, I don't have done a direct comparison yet, therefore I'm not sure...maybe I will do a direct comparison in the coming weeks. Thank you for your suggestion.
I had both the G1 Four and G2x Four. Sold both because they are a pain to dial in and hit DSP overflow a lot. I just got the Mini and the amps are better in this unit. Even better is changing out IRs to make it more usuable.
What guitar is used in this video? I really want it
Hi, it's a Kiesel.
Here you can check out how I build it:th-cam.com/video/olswtCvztF0/w-d-xo.html

Grazie!
How does it compare to valeton gp200 lt
Hi, I should do a direct comparison video to answer properly...maybe in the coming weeks.
Thank you!
Headrush mx5 or ampero mini?
Hi, well, very different machines....I would say that it depends from your need....from practicing only I would get the Ampero...for live use, maybe the MX 5 offers more options.
Hello, Leo!
You say Ampero mini may be used with usb contro probably, but you dont check it.. Why? This is so easy..))
Hi, yes, it can be used as an audio interface.
Sorry for the uncertainty.
👍👍👍
Thank you!
Can i do live shows with it. I only play metal music. Only use high gain tone.
Hi, yes, I think you can.
How's this compare to Ampero One?
Hi,
it has less amp and cab simulations (52 vs 64 and 50 vs 60) and less effects (199 vs 242). the output section is different, obviously it is smaller, lighter and cheaper. It also has 2db of less dynamic range...but it should be not noticeable. There is a comparison chart here: www.hotoneaudio.com/products/multi-effects/Ampero%20Mini
Thanks
@@LeoGibsonGtr thank you! Just sold my Ampero One because the size as I'm building a small pedalboard to incorporate my favorite fuzzes. Is it going to be good enough? Intrigued because of the size. How's the reverb and delay? And the overall sound quality compared to Ampero One?
They should sound basically equal...strangely the Mini has 2db of dynamic range less than the one...but it should have a negligible impact on the tone.
@@LeoGibsonGtr thank you! Still considering whether to buy the mini or save more to buy used HX Stomp
Better than Axe 3?
Hi, I should do a direct comparison to answer.
Thank you for your question
today I received the ampero mini, coming from the old zoom G3 and zoom g1xon I was thrilled with the new generation of multi-effects.
I take my Stratocaster and try different presets, immediately I realize that the sound is rather confused, the layer does not play as a layer, even in the clean preset position 2 and 4 barely hint at the quake sound, the low strings are flabby and poorly defined, nothing to do with the twang, the zero whip sound, they looked like the bass of a poorly defined Les Paul. Also I thought you have bad presets, I prepare my usual fender Gassman rig with bassman cab, and nothing the same thing I add a compressor but it doesn't change the situation, I try to tweak the bassman tones, nothing! Suck!, I put this ampere away, and reconnect the old €69 zoom g1xon, my god! 10 to 2 in favor of the zoom, powerful low strings that whip like a stratum, intelligible, the perfect quake sound to rival Mark Knopfler in Sultan of swing. What to say! This amp sounds like the pre G3 era digital sounded, it dulls the guitar tone, main criticism being made of the digital, and this is so a 20 year step back in sound, the drums sound good, but the styles are wrong, rockabilly and an unthinkable little music, remember I had taken it with the hope that with the switch I could do on/of and also with the Looper, well, with the drum it does it, with the Looper instead only on one off,, u ti send to the Looper screen, however you can do what I wanted but not as it should be, moral of the story! As soon as I made the comparison with the super-cheap zoom g1xon, I took the Amazon open cell phone and immediately returned the ampere, I really expected something at least a little bit better, but something soooo much worse than my old pedalboards, no, not this. I'm still shocked and upset. 1:20
Hi, thank you so much for sharing your experience and your findings!
Sei bravissimo! Purtroppo i suoni del brano intro fanno cagare 🤣
I can't believe it is missing bluetooth for aux.
It sounds good but small display not good for seniors above 55.
Hi, thank you for sharing!
Actually, I think that hardware company should care more and more about this topic...you are right....even because I'm also starting wearing glasses....and sometimes it's hard to see things...
I like the tiny size, but it's a shame that it takes a hit in sound quality.
Hi, thank you for sharing!
Most valuable and real practice assistant of ampero. The stomp model hasn't drum machine. Wtf with Chinese engineers 🤔
Thank you for sharing
Everything sounds about the same, only with different levels of gain
Hi, thank you for sharing your findings!
