Mate l loved that tip about not cutting all the way through when cutting the lid...very smart idea young man👍👍 Box turned out great mate...well done 👍😁🇦🇺🍺
Beautiful mate, I’m sure that’s something that will be with Chelsea for the rest of her life😊 Little tip for reducing tear out or tear up, when cutting mitres like that stick some more blade out so the teeth are cutting down into the wood.
Thanks very much mate, and great tip. You know i actually thought that to myself because it makes perfect sense but don't know why i didn't do it. Next time
Great Project, Yes I am sure she will love it. Oh the frustration of snapped Brass screws 😫 I always pre thread.... with a steel screw, and of course bees wax the brass threads. 😎
I love adding laser work to projects. The shop i use is very reasonable. One price as long as it fits in the machine. Often that means pieces have to be engraved before assembly and then protected as work continues. Really nice box.
In all my years of woodworking. It never crossed my mind to clamp the lid to the box.what a great idea.it just goes to show.your never too old to learn something new. Thanks mate..great looking keepsake box too.love it.👍
3:00 You can make the beveled edge slightly curved by running diagonally over the circular saw blade. It's hard to explain when I'm not a native English speaker. Make an angled fence and have the blade a few mm up, don't know if you know that trick.
Vic thanks for the work it takes to send us these videos. What I really appreciated is your meticulous attention to detail! Reminds me to SLOW DOWN! That's why your work is so perfect. Fron Northeast US peace my friend!
Marking knife trick was spot on! Thanks for the helpful hint. In turn, I'd like to offer a helpful hint. Use steel screws to set the threads, then back them out, and then send the brass ones in. Helps reduce stripping the brass screws. Hopefully this helps.
Great use of the Laser Love service! These videos continue to be a beacon of calm in a hectic woodwork world Vic. Perfect for a morning coffee viewing. I loved the lid design and construction.
G'day! I've never made a hinged, lidded box. But this is just what I've been looking for. This is awesome! No music ✅ Great tutorial ✅ Very thorough ✅ No talking too fast! ✅ honest ✅ clever ✅ I love this video! Thank you very much! Three questions - where can I get the instructions and specs from, please? Is it possible to get the gap between the lid and the base down to nothing or max space 0.05mm? Maybe it's not possible because of the hinges? I can't wait to make one, thanks so much! ♥
Hi, thanks very much, so good to hear you liked the video so much. The video is the instructions for the box and the specs are irrelevant because you make your box any size you like or that suits your use. You can get the gap is between the lid and the box very small by recessing the hinges correctly.
Hello my friend. good idea. You've created a great birthday keepsake box. good job. Congratulations. Thank you for sharing. See you. Stay healthy and happy. Big greetings. Yours truly.
that turned out beautiful man, slick as. And even better, I've never seen that CA and Activator tip for installing hinges, brilliant! I'm buying some right now!
Very nice victor well executed and put together, I’ve not made a box like that one where you make it all in one piece and cut the lid away. And as always I always forget to put so tape in the corners so glue doesn’t get in the corner as it’s such a hassle getting it off lol always learning, nice box and good video, keep at it brother.
It's pleasing to hear someone say rebate on TH-cam : ) ..also.. for some reason every time I read the "Where's your mind" note on your table saw, I see images of monkeys playing guitars and hear some Basement Jaxx song in my head.. is this just me? Nice job btw.
Vic loving your work again. 40 years ago when I learnt my trade it was also a rebate , rabbets were multiples. Would love to sit in your workshop and chat over a good single malt. Keep it up.
Very entertaining as always mate. As a fellow wood worker I look forward to watching your videos. Lots of clever tips and well filmed too! You bloody beauty!
Very nice Vic, if you need personalised burni g done let me know as my Partner does it free hand, send me an email and I will send you some pix of her stuff

Thank you. Yes I’m well aware of that technique but it wasn’t the look I wanted for this box
Yes, love those Aussie hardwoods when they pop like that. Lovely job
Yeah, me too Rob. Thanks very much mate

Rich, you make a good point. I rush my projects to much and often regret it. By the way, RI resident here.
@@markbryan9989 Thanks for being transperant Mark. I really like RI and have been there several times.
Absolutely mate. Not only is slowing down safer and produces better quality but you also get to spend more time in the shop 👍
@@DownUnderWoodWorks Never thought of that one!
Mark I live in Lncsyer County PA. Forgot to tell ya that.

Somehow, in some way, from the time I first subscribed, you have transformed yourself from a hobby woodworker to a craftsman, well done!
Thank you for the compliment Percy and your continued support over the years
Can’t say it any other way mate, it’s a beautiful keepsake box made with love so another awesome project completed 🇦🇺🍻👍

Super!! Loved the idea of putting glue on the hinges to position the top. Overall great design and outcome. Thanks Vic!
No problem, thank you Mark 👍
It certainly is a beautiful box mate and the wood has a wonderful grain pattern.
Superb video mate 👌 👍🏽 👏
Thanks Ian
A beautiful box mate, made from an old bit of timber you had, once again it just goes to shoe there’s no such thing as scrap wood 👌👌👌👍👍👍
yep, very true Graham. It seems we see it as scrap only while its waiting to be used again
I am glad you popped up from down under. I was looking for another set of videos to watch. Once again brill.
I'm glad you found me Malcolm, hope you enjoy

That’s a really nice keepsake box Vic. I love the simplicity of the design - highlights the natural beauty of the timber.
Thanks very much Greg. I actually thought a lot about adding some embellishment to the box like splines or dowels but in the end left it as is.
Looks terrific mate!👍
Thanks very much Andrew
Thumbs up just wasn’t enough for this video, great looking box Vic

Aww, thanks mate, great team work xo
Super nice, i want to make a keepsake box for my daughter and i hope you don’t mind me stealing your technique... 👍
No problem, go for it. All the best with it 😊
Nice job but why did you not mortise the hinges?
Thanks Frank. Basically because I took the easy route and I knew that such a small detail would be totally insignificant to an 18 yo girl.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you Pepe
How thick are the walls of the box?
Hi Zach, i don't know exactly the thickness but my best guess is that it was about 13-15mm
