Hey so, I recently wrote a new thing on YIIK, which is a sincere interpretation of the game’s plot based on the Long Thread. I have a better perspective on the game now, though I still don’t like it. Enjoy: indiehellzone.com/2021/09/27/a-sincere-attempt-at-interpreting-yiik-a-postmodern-rpg/
Hate to talk about something that isn’t directly related to the video but you seem knowledgeable about the game a bit, would you happen to know the name of the song at 8:54 on that plays during the conversation with Essential 995? Thanks for uploading this video!
Honestly, it’s incredibly funny how the endings that the creators intended to be seen as bad are seen by all of you to be the best endings. Everything about their storytelling process is flawed.
So they put out a new trailer and I’m honestly curious to see where it leads. Like, are they building upon the original vision or are they course correcting the plot into something else.
"I immediately went food shopping, and cleaned the house for mom". yep. this is definitely monologue that you could only ever find in a secret, hidden 4th ending.
Holy hell this is... SO much more satisfying than either of the endings we actually got, regardless of whether it's "actually a secret ending" or whatever or not. I say this as someone who acknowledges that the game has flaws but *likes* the setting and *wants to* like the characters and *wants* good things to happen for them, I guess.
I’m convinced this was made by either Andrew or his brother. There’s footage of the areas shown in the first initial trailer, and these areas are completely inaccessible in the game as they don’t actually exist.
Is it just me, or is the prose... slightly different, in this ending? He's still kinda wordy, but not in a bad way. He's focusing on what happened, rather than flowery descriptions.
Final boss in the normal ending: Indestructible pretentious art-deco monster connected to a server rack that hosts every reality Final boss in this ending: Random stoner with an umbrella
One is Alex as he is metaphorically, the other is Alex as he is in reality, one of our few glimpses of real Alex in the Present Day, not the fake 90's delusion Alex
holy hell this ending is actually much much better, the original ending ends really poorly with just alex saying some quote, not showing much change, cutting to credits. but this ending shows alex changing and learning from his past mistakes, knowing not to do them in this reality, and claudio and chondra left the reality, returning to their reality, reuniting with their brother. also breaking the fourth wall to talk to the player.
this makes the whole game alot more worth it, in some ways. this ending could fit perfectly into the game if major elements of the game are tweaked. i actually have some ideas for that which get more convoluted as it goes on; *reduced dialogues (kinda) - as said by almost everyone, have only Alex speak like a contrarian. have people comment on it once or twice as well, just so we know this is apart of Alex's character and not some pretentious shit by the devs *introduce the Essentia2000 WAY earlier in the game - im talking, like, right after Sammy Pak's disappearence. Alex could be getting the mysterious phone calls from HER at first, getting Alex and the player to trust her. then she starts to suggest vague directions for future dialogue box options, like acting bitchy to your friends and doing all the negative options to Rory. hint of her being more of a manipulative person as the game goes on, and when you finally meet her (also way earlier in the game) she should be just as overpowered as she was in the og game and you have to choose between only using her as a party member or sticking to your friends, basically cementing you to the path that either leads to the good or bad end (good end is tedious but pays off, bad end is super easy but unsatysfying. pick your poison). *make us care about the friends we make - you know, make them have charming elements like designs worth remembering and flesh them out more. id like to think that the whole point of the rewritten game is to ultimately choose where your loyalties lie; either over your friends (the present/crushing realism), or the Essentia (the future/impossible fantasies) and it all depends on who you spent time with most during your gameplay, like if you spend more of your time with the essentia you get fed more and more misinfo, misleading the player, while if you spend time with your friends you see through her lies more often and are able to choose your own decisions instead of leaving it to Essentia. all of these mechanics would heavily rely on you giving a shit about your friends, so making all of them likable are pretty crucial for this to be pulled off. *Make Sammy infinitely more interesting - ever since i found out about the game i was really annoyed at how underused Sammy was, and ive always had this idea brewing in my head to rewrite the whole scene/backstory with her so we end up actually caring about her and also justify Alex caring about her so damn much. basically, Sammy was Alex's close childhood friend who he cared for deeply. however, when they were teens, Sammy mysteriously disappeared near the abandoned hotel, the same place shes found at in the game. this, coupled with his dad leaving not long after, made Alex much more aggresive and apathetic to other people. when he finds her at the begining of the game, hes confused as hell but overjoyed that hes found her and is "safe", even if it seems like there's major holes in her memory. as they enter the elevator so they can go to the police station, Sammy gets taken away by the Entities. Alex makes an actual effort to go after her, but is shoved back into the elevator and ends up leaving the hotel in shock. *Make Sammy interesting part 2 - im seperating these into two parts so it doesnt feel as congested, cause these are just added details that dont have to do with the scene rewrite. anyways, almost none of the other people in town know what Alex is talking about when he mentions, Sammy, besides some very vague memories of her, and in Alex's frustration he starts lashing out more and more often. Essentia could lure him in this way by claiming that she knows where Sammy was taken to and offers to help, claiming she also knew Sammy. anyways the whole plot twist here is that it turns out that Essentia scrubbed everyones memories of her (besides Alex), and brought in a Sammy from another dimension to kill in front of him so itd be easier to manipulate him into doing heinous things. thats it for my 4 am ted talk, if you excuse me im going to go crash and burn. feel free to reply with any of your own ideas cause this game fucking fascinates me to no end.
Idk if Sammy being a childhood best friend works with the theme of Alex chasing fantasies. Her being this quirky, pretty girl he met once and then feels like he has to go on an adventure to save feeds into how Alex has a hero complex.
So in order to get the ending you have to revert the game to an older state? I think that’s kind of neat, and actually seems intended in the context of dialogue.
Wow, usually I had begun to think of Alex's theme as melancholic or a descent into madness. But it actually sounded triumphant in that moment at the end. He finally got those dang groceries ;_;
@@lokiofasgard69 I take issue with that interpretation with Undertale's Pacifist Route. The game encourages you directly, via text, to go back and replay as a pacifist. I actually think that weakens the neutral ending, to the point of it not even being one, just a set up for the Pacifist run. The only nuance experienced in neutral ending is the Sans Phone Call. This game doesn't tell you to switch to an older version, you have to play around with that yourself. Point for YIIK, surprisingly.

The ending was actually kind of good, though the parallel reality stuff was still needlessly convoluted. Also, Wilfrid or Proto-Alex or whatever needed more screen time. But the most surprising thing by far was that Alex actually got those damn groceries.
Looks like they're putting Proto-Alex in earlier in the update to further prime the audience for the reveal that Alex's world and all the characters don't exist, and Alex is actually this sad looking dude alone in a room in his Mom's house in 2013, wasting time on the internet, thinking about the past, and contemplating suicide. Gamers can't be expected to follow bread crumbs anymore, even in a game clearly labeled as "hey! My narrative will not be told in a straight-forward and forgiving manner! It will be annoying tedious work! There is a high difficulty level to this narrative!" Gamers want everyone else to Git Gud when it comes to mechanics, but are absolute babies that need their narrative spoon-fed to them or else they get fussy and confused
@@pantslesswrock the narrative is badly written, deep doesn't mean good. And the never ending stream of words it shits out doesn't help with understanding it's message.

If you don't want tons of words, then maybe post-modern writing isn't for you, and you should check out some entertainment that does conform to your biases. Wait if Claudio and Chandra went back “to their reality” how was Michael there to help Alex in his reality? Didn’t Alex’s Michael move away to Canada? Why not just have Claudio and Chandra’s brother come back to their reality with everyone else? Was Mark a part of their reality or Alex’s reality? This is all really YIIKing with my head.
So I just finished the game on both ends (Proto-Alex “fight” and KNN) and I wanted to make sure I left no stone unturned before NG+ … But what I wanted to ask if anyone knows, is it actually possible to still drive to and enter the light house in pink world? If it is possible, it’s too late for me, I already NG+’d both endings but I’d still like to know.
@@F1nicky really?? I got all the way back to end game in NG+ because I was dumb enough to play through the entire thing again in hopes to unlock or find some hidden bonus content but.. it was a huge waste of time. I did get to [ LV 120 ] though. yee haw
Not possible without changing things in the files. There's a prerequisite of having to open a permanently locked chest in Soulspace and reading a inaccessible article on Essentia on ONISM. Both not being coded in. I'm pretty sure you can access it in the 1.5 version but don't quote me on that.
That's just his name, I guess. All the other Alexs aren't actually named Alex, I don't think. At the very least they don't have to be, just like your name isn't actually Alex but you are "an Alex." It's just the game's shorthand for alternate versions of the main Alex.
I'd prefer if YIIK was like Petscop, fully scripted playthroughs on youtube telling a weird story. then Alex's monologues could be just the commentary of the guy playing it better that than an unplayable groken yet beautiful game with a lot of thought put into it
If it weren’t for my belief in preservation I would close the comments forever. However, there was an important clarification on the “third ending” in here so I changed my attached article to address it. For a long time I was under the impression that the “cut ending” was just that and it wasn’t the third ending. That said, just because it wasn’t found in the intended way doesn’t mean it wasn’t found. Come on.
I will admit, my reading comprehension is shit when I’m delirious with anger and I did miss that point multiple times in the Long Thread. But also that thread is So Long and my memory is also shit.
Wow an actually satisfying ending that has payoff for Alex’s character arc. Wish this was the real ending, seems like it could come after the ending they have now.
This game still sucks, but I love this ending. Too bad it's not in a better game, however. Even then, the story and gameplay need to suck so much less for this to even be remotely decent.
Lol I was just looking at this vid again to copy and paste the pirate thing I said. I can only assume my idioticity is what you're referring to, my apologies. Unless it's not what you're referring to, then I must give apologies for my pretentiousness.
This ending was soooo much better than the actual one. All of the leveling up and getting stronger actually meant for something. You don't fight an unbeatable boss. And it was a happy ending for the group! I get how some stories aren't supposed to end happily, but it's just nice to see Alex changing himself for the better, ends up with a group of friends and a happy mom! Tbh I cracked a big smile after seeing how Michael, Vella and Rory helped him clean the house. This game could've been so much better if the creator didn't have his head so far up his ass.
I see why this would be abandoned. It ties up everything nicely which is the opposite of what YIIK was about. This is just as bad as the original ending in the opposite direction.

Hey ScityDreamer, loved your game Slimes. You are a very talented individual. I have a simple request about this reupload you have which would prevent the spreading of misinformation. That ending genuinely made me tear up a little, it’s a shame that it’s still unused (as of now, at least)
There is a high difficulty level to this narrative!"
Gamers want everyone else to Git Gud when it comes to mechanics, but are absolute babies that need their narrative spoon-fed to them or else they get fussy and confused
@@pantslesswrock the narrative is badly written, deep doesn't mean good. And the never ending stream of words it shits out doesn't help with understanding it's message.
@@thatitalianlameguy2235 *it's
And no, deep does mean good. Maybe not for you! Maybe you don't like things that make you think and work when you're just trying to relax and escape. Fair enough, especially with the state of the world! But for others, that depth and the requirement to really work at the narrative and think about it to unlock all the metaphors is relaxing and distracting.
If you don't want tons of words, then maybe post-modern writing isn't for you, and you should check out some entertainment that does conform to your biases. Helpfully, YiiK put "post-modern" right in the title, so people can know exactly what they're getting into.
@@pantslesswrock Hello obvious developer alt.
Your next reply will be "NUH UH! NO I'M NOT!"
@@scottmemelord6130 It's hilarious that you think it's impossible for art to be viewed by other audience members in a different way than you do.
Unlike the Allanson's, my mom is still alive, and I never got a Bachelor's
Many years down the road, after the guys At Ackk get their shit together and make a lot of genuinely good games, I'd like to see them remake Yiik. There's a lot of soul and cool ideas under this mess, and it would be awesome to see them properly bring this vision into something good.
1.5 is sort of like that, they referred to it as being more like a remake or sequel. They added cutscenes and remade the battle system
YiiK is a genuinely good piece of Dadaist art, mostly accurately labeled as a Post-Modern RPG.
This is all really YIIKing with my head.
man, this is a legitimately good ending :[
thinking about this more, not really lol. sure the ending is more fulfilling, but not really to Alex as a character.
Can't believe they added the secret final boss theme to the 1.25 update.
So I just finished the game on both ends (Proto-Alex “fight” and KNN) and I wanted to make sure I left no stone unturned before NG+ … But what I wanted to ask if anyone knows, is it actually possible to still drive to and enter the light house in pink world? If it is possible, it’s too late for me, I already NG+’d both endings but I’d still like to know.
it is technically possible, but youd just be teleported to the essentia tutorial and then the game crashes.
WAIT SO HE ACTUALLY DOES GO GROCERY SHOPPING!?
This genuinely is such a good ending for the game. Idk why the creator ditched it.
it's supposedly in the game, but it needs some convoluted process to get it and nobody has figured out how to exactly trigger it yet
This seems like a cool, wholesome ending... but why is Proto-Alex called Winfrid??
That's just his name, I guess. All the other Alexs aren't actually named Alex, I don't think. At the very least they don't have to be, just like your name isn't actually Alex but you are "an Alex." It's just the game's shorthand for alternate versions of the main Alex.
Wilfred was a character in the Cape Juno demo of YIIK.
I think it's Essentia's boyfriend, which makes it even clearer how much she's using Alex for her own self-aggrandizement :')
be prepared to reupload this again since alex yiik is flagging yiik clips
An actual satisfying ending, and they scrap it
I remember actually being fooled by this secret ending existing but I guess the reality is that it was shenanigans from the developers.
It's not the best way it could end, still, but it shows a little self-awareness which is what I'd hoped.
this ending is simple but perfect
I'd prefer if YIIK was like Petscop, fully scripted playthroughs on youtube telling a weird story. then Alex's monologues could be just the commentary of the guy playing it
better that than an unplayable groken yet beautiful game with a lot of thought put into it
Thank you for posting this! It was quite interesting :)
The squandered potential of this game never fails to amaze me
This would've made the discrepancies in YIIK's time period make a lot more sense
@@scitydreamer9481 What are you talking about?
Wow an actually satisfying ending that has payoff for Alex’s character arc. Wish this was the real ending, seems like it could come after the ending they have now.
what could it all mean indeed
i just want the music from this
judging from some of the text about having fought them before makes me worried this was intended to be a repeat playthrough thing
"I hope your reality is as good as mine."
This game still sucks, but I love this ending. Too bad it's not in a better game, however. Even then, the story and gameplay need to suck so much less for this to even be remotely decent.
YIIK fans are unhinged.
Lol I was just looking at this vid again to copy and paste the pirate thing I said. I can only assume my idioticity is what you're referring to, my apologies. Unless it's not what you're referring to, then I must give apologies for my pretentiousness.
This is so wholesome and cute???? In my eyes this is the cannon ending.
God dammit does this writer know how to make an ending that ISNT anticlimactic?
Wym? This ending is quite good. It has stakes and resolution and everything.
Would you guys say this is a better ending?
If the game gets better by doing this, I'll assume it's a secret ending and not a mod.
I like this ending
also does that mean that Alex x Essentia is selfcest?
I love Yiik and i think it can be fixed by simply halving the enemy hp
Halve the enemy HP. Improve loading times. Combine animations in battle so it's not split up into phases. Boom. Combat flows so much smoother
You are the second person I've seen say they love this game 💀💀

I see why this would be abandoned. It ties up everything nicely which is the opposite of what YIIK was about. This is just as bad as the original ending in the opposite direction.
Even through all of YIIK’s flaws, beauty can still be found.

Ahoy thar Scitydreamer, I've jus' noticed that yer video, "Reupload o' YIIK's supposed unused endin' (read description)" has had false information in its title since Jun 9, 2021! That's a long time, nigh-on 2 years even! This endin' has no reason t' call it unused. I find it confusin' that ye named the video that in the first place, especially since in the tale ye linked ye say that ye disagree wit' it bein' unused! T' quote yourself, "'n now, ye might be wonderin', wha' was up wit' that leaked endin' video I re-uploaded? Well. It’s the fourth endin'. Aye, apparently a fourth endin' was added t' the game? I 'ave no fuckin' idea how anyone could find it if it’s actually in the game, seein' as how nobody knows how t' trigger the third ending in the intended way." I hope this gets corrected soon, unless ye're nah interested in spreadin' anythin' but hate 'n deception about this game.

Hey got this video recommended to me again and the title is still incorrect. I checked your own article which you linked in the description and you too say it is the fourth ending. 7:27 bro this just Inaba
So do we know if this is actually an unused ending or if this was just some fan made thing?
its in the game as of 1.25
Hey ScityDreamer, loved your game Slimes. You are a very talented individual. I have a simple request about this reupload you have which would prevent the spreading of misinformation. You actually agree that this title is incorrect, as you say in the "UPDATE" part of the description, where you link to an article you made about it. However I think it is likely that you did not update the title of the video because you may have forgot. I don't think it's out of malice, just a simple mistake. I would highly recommend that you change the title to be more accurate, perhaps something like "YIIK's Secret Ending?" I hope you do this, because if you don't do that, I'll have to believe you're not interested in spreading anything but hate and deception about this game.
Why do you have this titled as unused when you've already been proven wrong? Would be nice to change it, unless you're not interested in spreading anything but hate and deception about this game.
