I mean Slaanesh is all about seeking out pleasure and stuff. So a chaos leader wanting to make humans to be ranging thirst-fueled ecstasy chasers because he legit thinks it better for them isn’t I much of stretch. Unapologetic evil has upsides. Just look at our world.
It is kind of unrealistic for all these dark universes to not have the evil side accidentally make the world a better place fairly regularly. The universe doesn't care about intentions.
The only reason the evil sides don't save the day every other crisis is because the plot won't let them.

One theory I’ve seen about the good aspects of the Chaos gods that I found really interesting was that the Old Ones took that aspect of them to create some of the Eldaar gods. Majority of this theory stems from the similarities between the three surviving members of the Eldaar Pantheon (Cegorach, Isha, and Khaine) and the older Chaos gods (Tzeentch, Nurgle, and Khorne). Both Isha and Nurgle are both are gods of life, and Nurgle is explicitly stated as to be holding Isha in his garden. Khorne and Khaine are both gods of war who are both characterized as berserkers. Finally both Cegorach and Tzeench are tricksters, with Cegorach apparently scheming to this day in the Black library. The theory states that separating these “good” aspects of the chaos gods happened way before the current setting and because there was only the “evil” aspects left chaos became what it is today.

You know. Like you always do. Literally every time.
Ahriman: This time it'll be different, let me in the vault.

This is actually an intervention, listen, we all care about you. We're all gathered here to help you. We just need you to stop. You're hurting the people you care about with this obsession. So his unit was ordered to clear out a Jewish community somewhere in France, accompanied by an SS company. So as soon as his tankers reached their objective, the Panzer commander basically refused to go through with it, and instead took up defensive positions at the key bridges into the area and told the SS to go fly a kite. I can’t remember if the units ever actually exchanged fire, but I know that the Panzers bought just enough time for everyone to get out, and that the commander was executed immediately afterwards. What about the Aaron Demski-Bowden Black Legion characters? Especially Iskander Khayon. I feel like he's a pretty good example of an anti-hero "I'm making the best of a weird, bad situation" kind of character. Hell, even Abaddon in his own way had his own honor and ethics. He fought Sigismund 1v1 honorably and didn't defile him or anything after the duel was over, and by the time the black crusades started, Abaddon didn't necessarily want to just kill maim and burn, he wanted to unseat what he saw was an injust imperium and make sure his kind had a place (admittedly, the top place) in the galaxy rather than tools to be disposed of when they no longer served their purpose. He was kinda like a late feudal era Samurai in that regard. I'd even venture to say that Abaddon was more moral and honorable AFTER the heresy when his ego was bruised and he had a good long time to think on the consequences of his and Horus' hubris. He saw the messy, pitiful end to the war, and the immediate aftermath which really ingrained in him the dangers of truly giving yourself over to chaos and hardened him into someone who was capable of leading the legion. in general I feel like most of the ADB Black Legion characters are super morally grey and have their moments of nobility and that series in particular was a great example of how to build compelling villians that you sort of empathize with and want to root for as anti-heroes.
