Player from Germany here! Those news really did make me sad when I found out. Speed Duels actually got me into Yu-Gi-Oh as a whole. The actual TCG was too overwhelming for a beginner like me, but when Speed Duels dropped me and my buddies (they were already into the TCG) picked up the first wave of Speed Duel starter decks. I'd build a fairly decent Dark Magician deck and my friends taught me everything I needed to know. Eventually through Speed Duels I also tried out the TCG, watched all the animes and became a huge Yu-Gi-Oh fan in general. Still hoping this is just some production error because Speed Duels hold a special place in my heart❤

Idk man, the speed duel cards feel really fake. And it feels like I just bought them off a flea market than an actual store. I love secret rares, but not in a speed duel format.
A big reason for people to not play or purchase speed products is because of the rule that you can only play cards with the speed duel print on it (why should i be forced to buy a card i already have just because of the print in the text box)
@@kuroginava8498 its to limit the card pool for balancing around different tactics, its not a perfect solution by any means but it's probably the best option they had. Most people aren't going to want to mull through a card list of compatible speed duel cards online to build their deck, the average joe is probably just going to have a separate pile of cards at home with the speed duel cards in it.
While speed duels being phased out is sad, not having any major Yu-Gi-Oh events in Europe in the coming months is much more worrying. Usually we would've had at least some YCS by now but we have nothing until mid/end June. They're definitely cutting back on the European market.

I feel you so hard on this I tend to make multiple decks around similar power level incase friends show up only for friends to have no interest in it and the ones that do live hella far :(
im from portugal and just started playing speed duel this year cuz my locals had a small scene. ive been enjoying it a lot and love the fact you can actually pick up multiple decks for less than the price of 1 tcg deck very sad to see this tbh
A que ser honesto, a nivel nacional mesmo temos muitos poucos a jogar. E mais comum formato tradicional de Yugioh...a nivel geral ate aqueles torneios grandes la de fora(Speed Duel) tem um número muito pequeno de jogares para eventos de tal dimensão. E para confirmar mesmo a morte, tens sites piratas como Dueling Book que e acessivel a todos com um computador minimamente barato e acesso a todas as cartas, e mesmo assim raramente ves jogadores. Admito que o produto nao e ruim de todo, e nostalgico. Existe um servidor de discord para Speed Duel e ai convidas pessoas para jogar contigo, mas por norma e uma cidade fantasma.

Since almost no one uses the second main phase somehow, it is still a good way to learn how to play the TCG/OCG format. It is just a bit of work to handle LP difference and that second phase
Im loving speed duels. I ended up quitting master duel for duel links and I'm having way more fun. I was actually considering checking it out in real life.
Duel Links was amazing up until Synchros, it felt like classic Yugioh but modernized. I stopped playing it after it got to Xyz because to me that's when power creep starts hurting the game. Well, that and it got old to keep making smurf accounts due to how f2p unfriendly the game gets after you play the same account for a while. But it was great fun while I played it.
I do think there's room for at least two more sets if they were to conclude with GX, since Yubel and Viper have both been teased through Skills, as has Dark World. I also wouldn't be surprised to see a Duelist Kingdom Box at some point.
The speed duel boxes are in my opinion, the perfect way to collect/play yugioh. I always buy three of each of the gx ones and collect the nostalgia decks. I'm so sad i can't get the fossil and neo spacian decks
I play speed duel in the UK as I came late to yugioh and struggling to get head round it. I was told about speed duel and it helped me pick up the bigger yugioh as I call it better help understand mechanics of it. I now teach special need children and adults how to play yugioh through speed duel decks as simple to learn and understand. I was looking forward to this boxset when saw it as I have all the other speed duel boxes and really hope to get this product if released in uk

The conversation around speed duel always goes like "This is very cool" and "It should help newcomers to learn about the game". But after getting all the "cool" and "learning", everybody moves to the "real" game. You can have a stand-alone product (like starter set just release), but cannot be a trading card game like good old YugiOh TCG

I just wanted Speed Duel 5Ds. :( I play casual anime decks with friends and we use the skill cards from speed duel because they often do goofy anime things. I really want 5Ds skill cards...
Thanks for this video. It's pretty sad for our speed duelists fellas in Europe, they have also awesome speed duel content creators. I want to clarify some points: One, this product was never posted on konami's yugioh speed duel products in EU web page, it was just assumed it would come, just as the former ones has been released for them in different languages; for example since day one here in my country (Colombia, yup Latinoamerica is getting this product as well) we knew the product wouldn't be release in other languages, we talked to distribuitors back then. Second, this might be due to the increase in taxes and shipping costs V.S. OTS's selling numbers, as result, here and some countries are selling this box for $25 usd, in the EU would be a similar price and probably higher, which wouldn't be acceptable for a mini box! people would stop even more purchases from OTSs and buy the box in Amazon since just one box should be around $20 with free shipping (there are not taxes for small imports), so Konami forbidden the cards to avoid this or smuggling. I do not think Speed Duel will be finished, the production and distribution lines just need a restructure, so meanwhile this products will be on hold for EU or other languages :c
I was very sceptical for this midterm (don't like Neo Spacians archetype, love just Mole) and was not fun of Arkana fate-based deck, but then I saw quite good skills + nice Dino and Fossil decks and just wanted to buy this (really liked idea of playing simple YuGiOh with friends who like card games but not things like fresh YuGiOh). I am sad... if they would end it and announce this - would be ok! If they would add last midterm product for final duel of DM saga (Atem cards, maybe more cards for Yami Bakura, some Blue-Eyes support or even reprints of gods because it is hard to buy Battle City box) - even better. I invested more than $100 in speed duel and I am happy about this nostalgic collection which can be played just out of the box, even without deckbuilding but... it is very bad way of ending this Konami! I hope Paul is right and EU will have it later. PS I will not play Rush duels, not my vibe. I would prefer playing 5DS era
Konami's keeps releasing spin-offs to capitalize on DM-era nostalgia. They keep going back to the same well and it's starting to run dry. It's he TCG version of Disney's live-action adaptations, except we're on the fourth or fifth cycle now.
I feel like Konami sees Speed Duel as just getting in the way of Rush Duel being released in TCG regions, so there's a real chance they might just drop it.
It worries me not really for me but for my friend. I’ve pretty much quit YGO entirely for Pokémon ever since he moved states away, so he hasn’t been keeping up with the game much either but wants to play ygo. Speed duel is a good substitute for him and he’s been seeing more success with it than the traditional game. It would suck if it gets cut.
Greetings from Germany. From my own (totally anecdotal) observations over the last year I could sadly see Konami axe Speed Duel over poor sales. There hadn´t been lots of Speed Duel on shelves lately and most of it was on clearance. I got a Duel Academy Box for 10€.
I enjoy speed duels. Not so much when it first began, but when they switched to boxes of decks I got interested. If they are stopping at GX, I kind hope they at least finish GX and release some products based on seasons 3 and 4

Speed Duel is a flawed format because every playable deck doesn't just combo into Baronne, Apo, Savage Dragon for 20 minutes. Konami just doesn't want players to be confused with a format with more than one win con
I was honestly getting sick of the speed duel sets JUST being GX, but it’s a great format that got my friends back into YuGiOh. None of us play competitively but it’s a great time to just have a 4 man game
Ngl I’m not huge on the speed duel format but did like picking them up for making fun decks and the secrets. In a way I’m kinda hoping that speed duel get swapped out for rush duel instead 🤞🏻
if speed duel is ending and they don't go the rush duel route, it would be interesting to see if they started producing time wizard format cubes like the speed duel boxes.
imo since they made it a point to make duel links be labeled as "Speed Duels" and "Rush Duels" They're basically phasing out the physical product since it didn't pop off as they thought it would. I wouldn't mind Rush, but if the duel links are anything to go off on, The initial cards are pretty stale I'd like for more of the more recent fusion stuff to be at the forefront etc.
Add to list of odd decisions. I learned that that Konami changes their OCG tournament rules recently. In that you have to be a Japanese citizen to participate in official OCG tournaments
I Love Speed Duels, It's something I constantly play. As an European, the fact that the Product isn't released in in EU is a such punch to the gut... I'm gonna have them ordered from the US just so I can experiment and play with the new stuff, maybe mix some old and new stuff togheter. It's gonna be very costly, but hey, I want to have the new Stuff so what can a man do...
The quality of the cards also dropped off. They probably shifted to TCG standards which is a shame because previous Speed Duel sets had amazing quality.
Speed duels is designed for the yugi-boomer. However, IMHO its not what the yugi-boomer really wants. THey are happy with anime decks for certain. But... Speed duel decks are optimized 20 card decks with a skill to boot. They can do their thing but they are kind of one note. Speed duel decks lack any kind of ability to grind nor do they have power card that can flip the game on its head like raigeki, monster reborn, pot of greed etc. So there is no heart of the cards in speed duels. In my opinion yugi-boomers want to experience a long game with swings in momentum between the players. I don't think speed duels was ever the format to give them that.
As an EU player (and as someone who'd buy the GX boxes), I'm glad to see it go, means we can get rush which is a million times more interesting As for the announcement from konami, I think people are blowing it out of proportion, even if the speed duel cards didn't appear on that list they'd still be illegal for play in these regions as per their rules surrounding them (hell most of the time cards aren't even removed from that list, before this update "Go DDD rage" and "Odd-eyes Phantasma dragon" where featured despite being legal in these areas for over 2 years at that point)
What are speed duels like in Japan? If it hasn't been doing well there, then that could be a reason why they're dropping it in other areas. Unless they're doing fine there, then idk.
Speed duels is the only way I will play yugioh now since it’s easy to just pick up and play. I don’t need to spend a lot of money on cards and it works for a causal setting. If speed duels ends which I think it will soon, I won’t be buying any more cards.
Given that even the Yugion Sevens English dub has ended and we're just over 100 episodes into Go-Rush, we're too far behind with Rush Duel right now to receive anything without it all being dumped on us in one go outside of what we're getting digitally through Duel Links - heck, we've not even received the DLC for Dawn of the Battle Royale outside of Asia either and that game is three years old now, that's how little interest Konami has with bringing Rush Duels global outside of the bare minimum effort. Speed Duel has been a great nostalgia trip and I've tried collecting every card I can from it, but for the production to switch to Konami US and it now only be released there instead of to Europe, it comes off as the death knell for the physical Speed Duel format.
This make me afraid of the future of yu-gi-oh in europe as a whole, the advanced format is dying here in France, lot of game shop don't even sell yu-gi-oh cards, Konami might just pull off on the normal game too and stay in japan/NA
If speed duel dies out.. I'm done with yu-gi-oh officially. The regular tcg is so different from what the game has always been that when speed duels came out in 2019 it brought me back into the franchise heavily. If it's gone I and many other people are ready to officially say goodbye to this franchise and leave yu-gi-oh where it belongs.. in our childhood.
I gotta say at First when Speed Duals First came out I didn’t like it. But I have to say it’s kind of grown on me in Recent Years. Which makes it kind of sucks that Europe may not be getting the next Speed Duals Set or any future ones. And as for us if this was going to be the Last Speed Duals Set it still kind of sucks but Totally Understandable to me. As for “ Replacing” Speed Duals for Rush Duals which I don’t think they well although it be cool, I think it might be slightly more profitable for Konami Compared to Speed Duals. But I still think how Rush Duals is marketed for the TCG. But either way Master Duals would still be Konami’s main Focus with very Good Reason. But still it be nice to get some kind of official side formate or way of playing Yu Gi Oh.
I think this is just another flop that can be blamed on Konami. They never really did anything to advertise Speed Duel tournaments or even events to get people interested in the format.
It's extra weird considering that EU got all the good Speed Duel prize support. locator cards, mats, trophies, etc. we NEVER got any of that in the US. The only silver lining that might come from this is maybe, FINALLY we'll get Rush Duel over here? Please...?
Paul, this product is a disgrace to Speed Duel’s former card quality. The secrets are damaged, have black specks literally pressed into the foils, and the cardstock is thin and flimsy. They remind me of the old Chinese fakes we got as kids where you could literally peel the entire front foil off. This is so sad because Speed Duel secrets were fantastic. And these problems seem to be consistent across the entire product print - not one-off mistakes. Honestly it is so bad that I’m considering emailing Konami requesting a refund (the Target receipt says no refunds). This is a complete disgrace and an insult to us Speed Duel supporters. I was going to pick up several boxes for the Neo-Spacian foils alone; but seeing the quality, I would rather play commons than these.
Doesn't surprise me if that's the case. You basically can't open a North American pack without damaged cards and it's been that way for at least the last 3 years. Unless they changed something in a set this size I would expect to see at least 30 a box damaged or at least badly miscut.
@@RunicSigils The quality of this set - even the commons - is even worse than the structure deck quality. Take the worst TCG printing of the past decade and make it 2x worse. It’s amazing how bad it is.
I have played the game since 2006. I very much dislike the state of the current TCG and there isnt any way of going back. Speed Duels got me back into the game and excited to play. I think they did not do a good job of marketing the product or promoting any events for people to play. Now the only play I can play is remotely. And half the time, konami doesnt do side events fir speed duels either. It is unfortunate, to say the least.
There are tournament packs for it for a reason, yes. Although I imagine they weren't used much considering I've received them for free with 200+ orders from some places. Which I don't think they're supposed to do but I'm not going to complain.
I don't think this is the end of Speed. You don't shift production across the ocean to run one Set and then kill it. Something happened in Belgium with that factory and with the card quality of this Set it feels like it happened unexpectedly as the quality control is, well, quite bad. Which to me, as a guy who's worked blue collar for a decade, screams that it was a frantic rush job to get it out.
I just checked the allowed cards on the German version of Konami's website. The note that the new Speed Duel Set is not allowed in TCG plays is not visible there. They do not push Speed Duel as much they should, but they certainly did not abandon it yet. Sorry, but the title of the video is a bit to lurid for my taste.
As a European I'm prepared to order this from America but it's just a shame, nothing less nothing more. Why can't konami just keep this format it was Very good.
I hope this isn't the end of speed duel. My country falls under the European circuit. So if they stop, we cannot import... Speed duel wasn't just an alternative format, it was an entry point for newer players in my area. It helped my LGS get alot of newer players (families that found it simple enough to play together, like a board game version of Yugioh). One thing that may affect LGS drastically is that there are less online websites (especially in my region) that sell speed duel singles. Meaning, it was one of the very few products that people still purchased from dedicated card shops unlike the master format which had more people buy singles. With a loss of one if the few products that still sold, a few stores may stop supporting Yugioh.
I onlt but speed duel to play. Tgc just for collection but never play. Duels are full of boring combos if its not your turn plus I dont care about competitive.
Speed Duels is the best Yugioh format ever made IMO, because I can play it while still playing other TCGs. Keeping up with playsets in Speed Duel is so easy/cheap. I can keep my Modern/Pioneer MtG deck updated as new sets come out, Speed Duels stay up to date, all while actively playing Lorcana exclusively as a 2-color player. It's a really great casual way to play Yugioh. Like the "pauper" format of MtG or something. I love the smaller deck sizes, I like the smaller/curated meta, skill cards are insanely fun. It's the best way to LARP the anime, ostensibly- Which is exactly what we all wanted to do as kids. Speed Duels is FOR the Yugi-boomers.
It baffle me tcg decide to make speed duel instead of rush duel. I mean you lost anime promotion, you are forced to make another division indepedently with ocg counterpart, etc.
I saw this product at target but speed duels has NEVER interested me. We want RUSH DUELS, which is a TOTALLY DIFFERENT GAME, not speed duels which is advanced yugioh with a smaller board
Rush duels start it 6000LP, 30-40 Deck Size and u get no limit to normal summon, basically everything its especial summon, it the tributing still playing a part
I’m just low key spreading rumors that Konami is prejudice against Europe, to spark uproar for them to bring it back to Europe. Is it honest work? No. Will it work? Who knows in todays cancel culture lol
I feel like it would be easier to sell speed dual. If the cards didn’t have speed duel on them I would definitely buy more but I don’t like that look on the card.
I felt like Speed Duel had a target on its back to be killed off as a product when Time Wizard was introduced. The fact that it's basically just become boneless Edison format without synchro monsters makes me think they need a better product to reprint cards like Gaia Plate, Fossil Dyna, Dandylion, and many other cards for that format. Who knows, maybe we'll get a Time Wizard Rarity Collection in the future, but for now it's sad to see Speed Duel starting to fall to the wayside.
I get that. If people already have old cards to play legacy formats, it doesn't make sense to have them rebuy them just to have the speed duels marker on them

If they were to go past GX the only one they should add is XYZ. XYZ is basically Fusion done better so it fits this format much better. And from an anime perspective I wasn't playing it or collecting at the time nor have I watched the show, but I've heard a lot of complaints about the way Gagaga stuff never really got its time to shine thanks to the release schedule so why not give it a chance to here? Although they should finish Battle City first.
@@RunicSigils There's only so many times you can keep milking DM before it gets old. That many times is waaaaayyyyyy past the amount of times Konami has milked it. Even GX is in the same boat of being overmilked to death.
Looking on the bright side, this might be a good opportunity to release first party Goat/Edison/Tengu/etc Format products so we can finally have a slower format or two alongside the main Advanced format, especially since these alt formats are picking up in popularity in the TCG. Or Rush Duel. That would be fine too, though probably releasing alt format products would be better since it would feed into the Advanced format and potentially have reprints that could be of interest to Advanced format players that aren't necessarily interested in playing Goat or whatever.
It is a shame if they're pulling from the EU regions Personally I wasn't a fan of physical Speed since its been taking way too long to take the 5Ds leap instead of constantly circling around DM/GX, but I get that people liked playing at that power level At least it sorta lives on through DL, even if they phase out the physical one eventually Also agree that having Rush come out physically would be great. Surely they've learned something from both JP's physical format and its DL counterpart to plan interesting set releases
It has always felt like konami themselves viewed stuff like speed duel and duel links as the alternative formats players ask for. Even though I would like to imagine that getting rid of speed duel just means "making room" for rush, time wizard boxes for edison, or the much asked for modern casual alternate format like MTG's commander that you guys have brought up so many times recently, I think konami will instead just never bring anything else over cuz speed duel didn't succeed to reach the sales numbers they wanted.
I’m a British Yugiboomer who loved Speed Duel - it was great to play with my brothers as a bit of ol’ nostalgia, so this is a real shame. However, I’ve noticed that the recent GX sets have ended up getting heavily discounted for a while. So, I wonder how they were selling compared to the Duel Monsters era.
I've tried to collect every Speed Duel card from the different sets as a nostalgia kick, and this is just heartbreaking. I want to keep the hope that it'll be released later in the year, but trusting Konami US isn't exactly a good decision.
I really like RUSH's Card Layout. Enough that I'm slowly working on converting all the OCG/TCG cards to it. Bit slow process as there are 13,000+ Cards.
Check if whatever graphics software you're using has a Data Merge feature. I'd also look for some kind of publicly available YGO card database or API so you can pull all the text on individual cards into a database or spreadsheet. It'll make your life much easier than doing everything by hand.
I don't think they ever really wanted an alternative format. They do this to make a quick buck, but it's almost always in service of driving traffic back to modern. That's what they wanted with Master Duel, but it's taken on a life of it's own and exists outside of what it was originally intended to be.

Its a shame tho its a fun format and whoevers been designing it with the card pool and products has done a great job at making a fun and affordable alternate format. The local card shop I used to regular had a way bigger flesh and blood community compared to ygo and a lot of the flesh and blood players would show up for speed duels
From the EU here, the ONLY product I buy direct from Konami is speed duel boxes. everything else I buy is singles from my local shop or online. Such a shame, was really looking forward to this box in particular to play the neo spacians. Very sad situation, going to be a nightmare trying to get a box imported. :(
Unfortunately there no 1 in my area that plays SD/OTC and every Walmart and Target I've been to hasn't had any Yu-Gi-Oh products... its all DBZ, Pokémon, and MTG...
I'm in Europe and I really like the speed duel secrets for my edison decks. Card Trooper, mst, dandy and gaia plate are so nice that I am trying to get them some way or another. So I'm sad that speed duel is getting cancelled in the EU.
I started to play with Speedduel GX when I came back into YGO from my hiatus. 2006-2019 or so :D We played almost every week Speed Duel Remote or at least remote games. Also it was easy to pick up and play with friends that are not really into YGO. (Speed Duel is just easy to play, also we only got fusions). I even got like 3 copies of every set, to build some decks for the normal format and upgraded it with the new support. (Ancient Gear was my first real deck after the break + learn how to play link and XYZ). Speed Duel is also the reason I relived the time I did not play. (Stopped before GX) - so i was happy to see how this format was. Also I hoped to see like how it will change when maybe syncro or xyz got added. I'm in Europe and super sad that this is not released. Been hypend for all the decks in the box :( I still try to import a set, but it costs like 20$ + 20$ to ship and idk how much import costs. So my only option is to get one set, to add it to the collection and play it. In the end I can use it in friendly matches - or kitchen table ygo - but no locals/remote competition. Weird move from Konami :( PS: I always loved and watched the house tournaments. That was also my idea to get the box, just to play with friends at home with those decks. speed duel is my favourite format by far. it's really sad to see it basically get forgotten by konami and ignored by players
A big reason for people to not play or purchase speed products is because of the rule that you can only play cards with the speed duel print on it (why should i be forced to buy a card i already have just because of the print in the text box)
@@kuroginava8498 its to limit the card pool for balancing around different tactics, its not a perfect solution by any means but it's probably the best option they had. Most people aren't going to want to mull through a card list of compatible speed duel cards online to build their deck, the average joe is probably just going to have a separate pile of cards at home with the speed duel cards in it.
While speed duels being phased out is sad, not having any major Yu-Gi-Oh events in Europe in the coming months is much more worrying. Usually we would've had at least some YCS by now but we have nothing until mid/end June. They're definitely cutting back on the European market.

I feel you so hard on this I tend to make multiple decks around similar power level incase friends show up only for friends to have no interest in it and the ones that do live hella far :(

im from portugal and just started playing speed duel this year cuz my locals had a small scene. ive been enjoying it a lot and love the fact you can actually pick up multiple decks for less than the price of 1 tcg deck

A que ser honesto, a nivel nacional mesmo temos muitos poucos a jogar.
E mais comum formato tradicional de Yugioh...a nivel geral ate aqueles torneios grandes la de fora(Speed Duel) tem um número muito pequeno de jogares para eventos de tal dimensão.
E para confirmar mesmo a morte, tens sites piratas como Dueling Book que e acessivel a todos com um computador minimamente barato e acesso a todas as cartas, e mesmo assim raramente ves jogadores.
Admito que o produto nao e ruim de todo, e nostalgico.
Existe um servidor de discord para Speed Duel e ai convidas pessoas para jogar contigo, mas por norma e uma cidade fantasma.

Speed Duel is going to be my intro to yugioh. Not sure if it's the best way to start but I got one of the old starters.
Its a simplified version of tge game. Definitely a good way to ease yourself into yugioh

Since almost no one uses the second main phase somehow, it is still a good way to learn how to play the TCG/OCG format. It is just a bit of work to handle LP difference and that second phase

Im loving speed duels. I ended up quitting master duel for duel links and I'm having way more fun. I was actually considering checking it out in real life.
Duel Links was amazing up until Synchros, it felt like classic Yugioh but modernized. I stopped playing it after it got to Xyz because to me that's when power creep starts hurting the game.
Well, that and it got old to keep making smurf accounts due to how f2p unfriendly the game gets after you play the same account for a while.
But it was great fun while I played it.

I do think there's room for at least two more sets if they were to conclude with GX, since Yubel and Viper have both been teased through Skills, as has Dark World. I also wouldn't be surprised to see a Duelist Kingdom Box at some point.
The speed duel boxes are in my opinion, the perfect way to collect/play yugioh. I always buy three of each of the gx ones and collect the nostalgia decks. I'm so sad i can't get the fossil and neo spacian decks
I play speed duel in the UK as I came late to yugioh and struggling to get head round it. I was told about speed duel and it helped me pick up the bigger yugioh as I call it better help understand mechanics of it. I now teach special need children and adults how to play yugioh through speed duel decks as simple to learn and understand. I was looking forward to this boxset when saw it as I have all the other speed duel boxes and really hope to get this product if released in uk
The conversation around speed duel always goes like "This is very cool" and "It should help newcomers to learn about the game". But after getting all the "cool" and "learning", everybody moves to the "real" game. You can have a stand-alone product (like starter set just release), but cannot be a trading card game like good old YugiOh TCG
When i found out about speed duel not being printed for the EU and that we're only getting 1 box this year. I immediately jumped ship.

I want to clarify some points: One, this product was never posted on konami's yugioh speed duel products in EU web page, it was just assumed it would come, just as the former ones has been released for them in different languages; for example since day one here in my country (Colombia, yup Latinoamerica is getting this product as well) we knew the product wouldn't be release in other languages, we talked to distribuitors back then. Second, this might be due to the increase in taxes and shipping costs V.S. OTS's selling numbers, as result, here and some countries are selling this box for $25 usd, in the EU would be a similar price and probably higher, which wouldn't be acceptable for a mini box! people would stop even more purchases from OTSs and buy the box in Amazon since just one box should be around $20 with free shipping (there are not taxes for small imports), so Konami forbidden the cards to avoid this or smuggling. I do not think Speed Duel will be finished, the production and distribution lines just need a restructure, so meanwhile this products will be on hold for EU or other languages :c
I was very sceptical for this midterm (don't like Neo Spacians archetype, love just Mole) and was not fun of Arkana fate-based deck, but then I saw quite good skills + nice Dino and Fossil decks and just wanted to buy this (really liked idea of playing simple YuGiOh with friends who like card games but not things like fresh YuGiOh). I am sad... if they would end it and announce this - would be ok! If they would add last midterm product for final duel of DM saga (Atem cards, maybe more cards for Yami Bakura, some Blue-Eyes support or even reprints of gods because it is hard to buy Battle City box) - even better.
I invested more than $100 in speed duel and I am happy about this nostalgic collection which can be played just out of the box, even without deckbuilding but... it is very bad way of ending this Konami! I hope Paul is right and EU will have it later.
PS I will not play Rush duels, not my vibe. I would prefer playing 5DS era
Konami's keeps releasing spin-offs to capitalize on DM-era nostalgia. They keep going back to the same well and it's starting to run dry.
It's he TCG version of Disney's live-action adaptations, except we're on the fourth or fifth cycle now.
I'm not a big fan of physical Speed Duel, but I adore Duel Links Speed and Rush Duels.
I feel like Konami sees Speed Duel as just getting in the way of Rush Duel being released in TCG regions, so there's a real chance they might just drop it.

It worries me not really for me but for my friend. I’ve pretty much quit YGO entirely for Pokémon ever since he moved states away, so he hasn’t been keeping up with the game much either but wants to play ygo. Speed duel is a good substitute for him and he’s been seeing more success with it than the traditional game. It would suck if it gets cut.
Greetings from Germany. From my own (totally anecdotal) observations over the last year I could sadly see Konami axe Speed Duel over poor sales. There hadn´t been lots of Speed Duel on shelves lately and most of it was on clearance. I got a Duel Academy Box for 10€.

I bought speed duel for the memories of the OG anime. Felt fun making character decks. Once they started introducing GX I stopped buying.
It could be a variety of reasons why Europe isn't getting as much support. Low sales and meddling lawmakers come to mind first.

I was honestly getting sick of the speed duel sets JUST being GX, but it’s a great format that got my friends back into YuGiOh. None of us play competitively but it’s a great time to just have a 4 man game

imo since they made it a point to make duel links be labeled as "Speed Duels" and "Rush Duels"
They're basically phasing out the physical product since it didn't pop off as they thought it would.
I wouldn't mind Rush, but if the duel links are anything to go off on, The initial cards are pretty stale I'd like for more of the more recent fusion stuff to be at the forefront etc.
Add to list of odd decisions. I learned that that Konami changes their OCG tournament rules recently. In that you have to be a Japanese citizen to participate in official OCG tournaments

I Love Speed Duels, It's something I constantly play. As an European, the fact that the Product isn't released in in EU is a such punch to the gut...
I'm gonna have them ordered from the US just so I can experiment and play with the new stuff, maybe mix some old and new stuff togheter.
It's gonna be very costly, but hey, I want to have the new Stuff so what can a man do...
The quality of the cards also dropped off. They probably shifted to TCG standards which is a shame because previous Speed Duel sets had amazing quality.
Speed duels is designed for the yugi-boomer. However, IMHO its not what the yugi-boomer really wants. THey are happy with anime decks for certain. But...
Speed duel decks are optimized 20 card decks with a skill to boot. They can do their thing but they are kind of one note.
Speed duel decks lack any kind of ability to grind nor do they have power card that can flip the game on its head like raigeki, monster reborn, pot of greed etc. So there is no heart of the cards in speed duels.
In my opinion yugi-boomers want to experience a long game with swings in momentum between the players. I don't think speed duels was ever the format to give them that.

As an EU player (and as someone who'd buy the GX boxes), I'm glad to see it go, means we can get rush which is a million times more interesting
As for the announcement from konami, I think people are blowing it out of proportion, even if the speed duel cards didn't appear on that list they'd still be illegal for play in these regions as per their rules surrounding them (hell most of the time cards aren't even removed from that list, before this update "Go DDD rage" and "Odd-eyes Phantasma dragon" where featured despite being legal in these areas for over 2 years at that point)
Also, maybe Japan cares about Rush duel...
But in Europe and America, Rush duel is garbage. We plain & simply don't care about it here.
What are speed duels like in Japan? If it hasn't been doing well there, then that could be a reason why they're dropping it in other areas. Unless they're doing fine there, then idk.
Physical Speed Duels is a TCG Exclusive product and were never release in Japan.
Speed duels is the only way I will play yugioh now since it’s easy to just pick up and play. I don’t need to spend a lot of money on cards and it works for a causal setting. If speed duels ends which I think it will soon, I won’t be buying any more cards.
I truly hope it isn't ending, but if it is... I hope it's to make way for Rush Duels.

Given that even the Yugion Sevens English dub has ended and we're just over 100 episodes into Go-Rush, we're too far behind with Rush Duel right now to receive anything without it all being dumped on us in one go outside of what we're getting digitally through Duel Links - heck, we've not even received the DLC for Dawn of the Battle Royale outside of Asia either and that game is three years old now, that's how little interest Konami has with bringing Rush Duels global outside of the bare minimum effort.
Speed Duel has been a great nostalgia trip and I've tried collecting every card I can from it, but for the production to switch to Konami US and it now only be released there instead of to Europe, it comes off as the death knell for the physical Speed Duel format.

The regular tcg is so different from what the game has always been that when speed duels came out in 2019 it brought me back into the franchise heavily. If it's gone I and many other people are ready to officially say goodbye to this franchise and leave yu-gi-oh where it belongs.. in our childhood.

I gotta say at First when Speed Duals First came out I didn’t like it. But I have to say it’s kind of grown on me in Recent Years. Which makes it kind of sucks that Europe may not be getting the next Speed Duals Set or any future ones. And as for us if this was going to be the Last Speed Duals Set it still kind of sucks but Totally Understandable to me.
As for “ Replacing” Speed Duals for Rush Duals which I don’t think they well although it be cool, I think it might be slightly more profitable for Konami Compared to Speed Duals. But I still think how Rush Duals is marketed for the TCG. But either way Master Duals would still be Konami’s main Focus with very Good Reason. But still it be nice to get some kind of official side formate or way of playing Yu Gi Oh.
I think this is just another flop that can be blamed on Konami. They never really did anything to advertise Speed Duel tournaments or even events to get people interested in the format.

It's extra weird considering that EU got all the good Speed Duel prize support. locator cards, mats, trophies, etc. we NEVER got any of that in the US.

Paul, this product is a disgrace to Speed Duel’s former card quality. The secrets are damaged, have black specks literally pressed into the foils, and the cardstock is thin and flimsy. They remind me of the old Chinese fakes we got as kids where you could literally peel the entire front foil off. This is so sad because Speed Duel secrets were fantastic. And these problems seem to be consistent across the entire product print - not one-off mistakes. Honestly it is so bad that I’m considering emailing Konami requesting a refund (the Target receipt says no refunds). This is a complete disgrace and an insult to us Speed Duel supporters. I was going to pick up several boxes for the Neo-Spacian foils alone; but seeing the quality, I would rather play commons than these.

You basically can't open a North American pack without damaged cards and it's been that way for at least the last 3 years.
Unless they changed something in a set this size I would expect to see at least 30 a box damaged or at least badly miscut.
@@RunicSigils The quality of this set - even the commons - is even worse than the structure deck quality. Take the worst TCG printing of the past decade and make it 2x worse. It’s amazing how bad it is.
I have played the game since 2006. I very much dislike the state of the current TCG and there isnt any way of going back. Speed Duels got me back into the game and excited to play. I think they did not do a good job of marketing the product or promoting any events for people to play. Now the only play I can play is remotely. And half the time, konami doesnt do side events fir speed duels either. It is unfortunate, to say the least.

I don't think this is the end of Speed. You don't shift production across the ocean to run one Set and then kill it. Something happened in Belgium with that factory and with the card quality of this Set it feels like it happened unexpectedly as the quality control is, well, quite bad. Which to me, as a guy who's worked blue collar for a decade, screams that it was a frantic rush job to get it out.

I just checked the allowed cards on the German version of Konami's website.
The note that the new Speed Duel Set is not allowed in TCG plays is not visible there.
They do not push Speed Duel as much they should, but they certainly did not abandon it yet.

Speed duel wasn't just an alternative format, it was an entry point for newer players in my area.
It helped my LGS get alot of newer players (families that found it simple enough to play together, like a board game version of Yugioh).
One thing that may affect LGS drastically is that there are less online websites (especially in my region) that sell speed duel singles. Meaning, it was one of the very few products that people still purchased from dedicated card shops unlike the master format which had more people buy singles. With a loss of one if the few products that still sold, a few stores may stop supporting Yugioh.
I onlt but speed duel to play. Tgc just for collection but never play. Duels are full of boring combos if its not your turn plus I dont care about competitive.
Speed Duels is the best Yugioh format ever made IMO, because I can play it while still playing other TCGs. Keeping up with playsets in Speed Duel is so easy/cheap. I can keep my Modern/Pioneer MtG deck updated as new sets come out, Speed Duels stay up to date, all while actively playing Lorcana exclusively as a 2-color player. It's a really great casual way to play Yugioh. Like the "pauper" format of MtG or something. I love the smaller deck sizes, I like the smaller/curated meta, skill cards are insanely fun. It's the best way to LARP the anime, ostensibly- Which is exactly what we all wanted to do as kids. Speed Duels is FOR the Yugi-boomers.

I saw this product at target but speed duels has NEVER interested me. We want RUSH DUELS, which is a TOTALLY DIFFERENT GAME, not speed duels which is advanced yugioh with a smaller board
Rush duels start it 6000LP, 30-40 Deck Size and u get no limit to normal summon, basically everything its especial summon, it the tributing still playing a part

I feel like it would be easier to sell speed dual. If the cards didn’t have speed duel on them I would definitely buy more but I don’t like that look on the card.
Better than rush duel cards
I felt like Speed Duel had a target on its back to be killed off as a product when Time Wizard was introduced. The fact that it's basically just become boneless Edison format without synchro monsters makes me think they need a better product to reprint cards like Gaia Plate, Fossil Dyna, Dandylion, and many other cards for that format. Who knows, maybe we'll get a Time Wizard Rarity Collection in the future, but for now it's sad to see Speed Duel starting to fall to the wayside.
I get that. If people already have old cards to play legacy formats, it doesn't make sense to have them rebuy them just to have the speed duels marker on them

I lost all interest in Speed Duel when it became clear they're too chicken to do 5D's.
If they were to go past GX the only one they should add is XYZ.
XYZ is basically Fusion done better so it fits this format much better.
And from an anime perspective I wasn't playing it or collecting at the time nor have I watched the show, but I've heard a lot of complaints about the way Gagaga stuff never really got its time to shine thanks to the release schedule so why not give it a chance to here?

Luckily I'm in the US so i can buy it, thats all that matters to me. Seems like a problem of being European.
Looking on the bright side, this might be a good opportunity to release first party Goat/Edison/Tengu/etc Format products so we can finally have a slower format or two alongside the main Advanced format, especially since these alt formats are picking up in popularity in the TCG.
Or Rush Duel. That would be fine too, though probably releasing alt format products would be better since it would feed into the Advanced format and potentially have reprints that could be of interest to Advanced format players that aren't necessarily interested in playing Goat or whatever.

Personally I wasn't a fan of physical Speed since its been taking way too long to take the 5Ds leap instead of constantly circling around DM/GX, but I get that people liked playing at that power level

It has always felt like konami themselves viewed stuff like speed duel and duel links as the alternative formats players ask for. Even though I would like to imagine that getting rid of speed duel just means "making room" for rush, time wizard boxes for edison, or the much asked for modern casual alternate format like MTG's commander that you guys have brought up so many times recently, I think konami will instead just never bring anything else over cuz speed duel didn't succeed to reach the sales numbers they wanted.

I’m a British Yugiboomer who loved Speed Duel - it was great to play with my brothers as a bit of ol’ nostalgia, so this is a real shame. However, I’ve noticed that the recent GX sets have ended up getting heavily discounted for a while. So, I wonder how they were selling compared to the Duel Monsters era.
I've tried to collect every Speed Duel card from the different sets as a nostalgia kick, and this is just heartbreaking.
I want to keep the hope that it'll be released later in the year, but trusting Konami US isn't exactly a good decision.

Check if whatever graphics software you're using has a Data Merge feature. I'd also look for some kind of publicly available YGO card database or API so you can pull all the text on individual cards into a database or spreadsheet. It'll make your life much easier than doing everything by hand.

I don't think they ever really wanted an alternative format. They do this to make a quick buck, but it's almost always in service of driving traffic back to modern. That's what they wanted with Master Duel, but it's taken on a life of it's own and exists outside of what it was originally intended to be.

Its a shame tho its a fun format and whoevers been designing it with the card pool and products has done a great job at making a fun and affordable alternate format. The local card shop I used to regular had a way bigger flesh and blood community compared to ygo and a lot of the flesh and blood players would show up for speed duels

From the EU here, the ONLY product I buy direct from Konami is speed duel boxes. everything else I buy is singles from my local shop or online. Such a shame, was really looking forward to this box in particular to play the neo spacians. Very sad situation, going to be a nightmare trying to get a box imported. :(
Unfortunately there no 1 in my area that plays SD/OTC and every Walmart and Target I've been to hasn't had any Yu-Gi-Oh products... its all DBZ, Pokémon, and MTG...
I'm in Europe and I really like the speed duel secrets for my edison decks. Card Trooper, mst, dandy and gaia plate are so nice that I am trying to get them some way or another. So I'm sad that speed duel is getting cancelled in the EU.
This does not look like a canceling yet. I see an unfortunate shift that could still be corrected.
Speed duels are great, you can get all of the anime cards relatively cheap and be your fav character!
I started to play with Speedduel GX when I came back into YGO from my hiatus. 2006-2019 or so :D
We played almost every week Speed Duel Remote or at least remote games.
Also it was easy to pick up and play with friends that are not really into YGO. (Speed Duel is just easy to play, also we only got fusions).
I even got like 3 copies of every set, to build some decks for the normal format and upgraded it with the new support. (Ancient Gear was my first real deck after the break + learn how to play link and XYZ).
Speed Duel is also the reason I relived the time I did not play. (Stopped before GX) - so i was happy to see how this format was. Also I hoped to see like how it will change when maybe syncro or xyz got added.
I'm in Europe and super sad that this is not released. Been hypend for all the decks in the box :(
I still try to import a set, but it costs like 20$ + 20$ to ship and idk how much import costs.
So my only option is to get one set, to add it to the collection and play it. In the end I can use it in friendly matches - or kitchen table ygo - but no locals/remote competition.
Weird move from Konami :(
PS: I always loved and watched the house tournaments. That was also my idea to get the box, just to play with friends at home with those decks.
