I love that you bought an old house with character & gorgeous mature trees & plantings rather than a new build, cookie cutter subdivision house. It's so you. And I love that you're not going to rush to do the house but take your time & let the ideas come & work on areas of it as you live there & thoughtfully, intentionally create a home that is a refuge & a retreat for your soul. Also, I can vicariously live in my dream home through you & not have to be the one putting out the bucks to make that happen. 😊
Actually,I was under the impression that it’s not an old home but more like an eighties subdivision? Please confirm or correct.🫤
I grew up in South Carolina and a very historic black/green color we used was Charleston green. Loved the video! God bless, John 3:16
Maranatha
Yeah Charleston green is common on the southeast coast! It was the name given to the darkest paint that could be made without black dyes. It’s common in the south especially cities like Charleston, Atlanta, Baltimore, Richmond etc because it was shipped there during reconstruction to help the cities rebuild. It’s really a fascinating history!
Thankyou for your comment. Charleston Green. I live in Australia and I am wanting to decorate my new home exterior trim in what I describe as biting into Darrell Lea licorice it's green but almost black. Now I have a name for the colour. Much appreciated. Blessings from Australia 🇦🇺🙏
I’m in Texas. My Carolina jasmine is evergreen and when it booms the smell is pure heaven. I can smell it 20 yards away. Confederate jasmine is another great one.
Gosh I love this channel!!!! It just makes me happy
My vote for your trellis is the Jasmine. I had Jasmine when I lived in Hawaii and it's scent is wonderful.
Your vibe with the house and lush surroundings is totally on point! Love how you're not rushing things, letting your creativity flow naturally. It's like watching a dream home come alive😍🏡
Green has been my favorite color all my life…well, except in my elementary school days. I love the shade of green on the shutters and I know the front door is going to look amazing green! Especially with a brass door knocker! 😍
And kickplate
Green is such a beautiful color for a front door! It is going to look absolutely stunning, and I cannot wait to see it!!!❤❤❤
Jasmine for sure, they are always full and lush, roses tend to thin out, need pruning and drop lots of leaves and petals
Glad you found the old can of paint. The round white table is beautiful as is the rectangular table. Love the pots of hydrangeas by the front door. ❤
I adore older homes they have character . Potted hydrangeas always look so pretty in nice vessels . Your out door furniture is beautiful ! If the cost is not prohibited I would powder coat them. Cost saving in the long run. I vote for jasmine . Love the flowers of roses ,but not thorns and leaves .
Thank you so much 😊
Loved what you did with the plants at the front door. Can't go wrong with hydrangeas!
Jasmine would probably work better than roses, but both require full sun (at lease 6 hours) to do well. Your house is looking so pretty, and love both tables!
That is such a beautiful green. I painted my small bedroom a very similar color.. beautiful concept in theory, wrong space .. too small, not enough light. I think on your door it will look wonderful! Jasmine and honeysuckle, orange blossom smell so good...
Pale pink climbing roses! That’s my personal favorite. Your home is coming along nicely. Such a beautiful home and family.
Thank you so much!
The reason I chose star jasmine for my trellis is that it’s leafy from the ground up instead of leggy. If you’re looking for privacy it works very well.
You have inspired me to start looking for white iron outside table. I adored that round one when you got that set up! The other one will look great too! The gardening projects are going to be so much fun for you!
Hydrangeas are my favorite flowers! So happy to see you gardening! Enjoy the process of decorating. Jasmine!🙏🙏🙏Blessing’s
Mine too : )
I look forward to every step of your decorating journey. Everything you do makes me feel like I’ve gone back in time to a magical place…so dreamy.
Thank you so much!
It was nice to see you in NYC and even taking the subway with the train breeze blowing your hair. The baby looked so tiny in TJ's arms. I see the sweater was a big hit. The wrought iron tables are beautiful, but hot to sit on in the summer. I'm sure you have cushions in mind and maybe use a Sunbrella fabric so they don't fade. I have no plant tips unfortunately since I am the kiss of death to plants. My mom used to tell me she hoped I was better with patients than plants. I could nurse people but not plants. You've done a beautiful job so far so I have faith in you. I miss Raleigh / Durham. I had family there and was a frequent visitor from the age of 18 till my family passed away over the years. I still have friends in Cary who I keep in touch with. I even thought I would live there one day, but alas I did not. Have a wonderful Easter!
Thank you so much!! Yes, the sweater was a hit for the tiny baby!! 🥰 we will definitely try to add some cushions. Still working out if I want to diy them or not.
Your home is beautiful. Looks like your surrounded by so e beautiful mature trees. You have such good taste and I agree take your time finding the furnishings. Can't wait to see yourfront door painted green.
Yes!! We love the trees! Even with a smaller lot it feels very private.
You’re rocking it with the new house. The new decor and garden. Where did you get the planters? They’re so pretty. Also Jasmine I believe are evergreen and climbing roses are not. I’m not expert on roses although I love them ,I’d do Jasmine just because it’s easier to care for. Love your videos!!!
I got the planters from a local place in Cary, NC called Garden Supply Company!
Thank you.
❤love the bedding may I ask for the source?
Your pot choices are perfect and the green door will be just gorgeous! 😍 Can't wait to see it.
thank you!!! I wish I had about 20 more of these!
@@PrettyinthePines Where did you find those beautiful pots?
Why not plant both together; Jasmine and miniature roses!
It will look lovely and you will also enjoy the fragrance!!
Planting both together will represent your unique,
exquisite taste! Thank you
for sharing your beautiful
creations. You teach and
inspire us all!
I think that exactly what I will do!!
The green front door will add so much charm Shelby! Good choice. I think roses for the end pots , jasmine will attract bees. Roses will give the old world/ romantic
vibe that your house has. Which ever you choose will look good, you have such good taste! I love your front porch pots...hydrangeas are one of my favorites.
Ahh thank you!
I also love the hydrangeas in the pots, but I'm wondering, can they live in pots long term? I thought they had to be in the ground, but I'd like to have some if they will live in pots.
I absolutely love your new house. It looks just as good if not better than the apartment!
also, hydrangeas are my favorite flower.
I love it! I haven't though too much about the apartment other than the sunset views it got!
How did I miss this yesterday! Love the spring beauty surrounding your home.
Thank you so much!
Hello it’s good to see that you’re back, I’m so excited about the warm weather and gardening as well. My roses are growing so much and can’t wait to put my Hummingbird feeder out , GOD BLESS 🙏🏾🥰💖💯💫
Thank you!! ☺️
We love the sweet scent of Jasmine.
I literally wanted to go to sleep watching you use the Foreo. It looks so relaxing. Your front porch is beautiful & your planters are fabulous. Jasmine would be lovely on the front porch. I hope you enjoy Springtime in your new home!
Ahh yes! It is the perfect addition to my nighttime routine!
That green looks like what I painted my front door, Benjamin Moore Salamander. It has more blue than the yellow in your sample. I am glad you found the can with a color match recipe 😊
I can not get enough of your videos!
The label on the side of the paint bucket, was that the color recipe? You may have the recipe. Smart thinking to compare colors on the shutter. Love the pots, flowers and table set. We are not going anywhere. Take your time , get a feeling for the home, watch the light change in the rooms throughout the day. The home I grew up in had a soft pink fragrant rose arbor over the garden gate by my bedroom. I loved opening my windows to let the sunlight, air and fragrance in. As an adult I had a jasmine arbor and enjoyed it as well. Both got lots of compliments from neighbors. Make sure you don't have allergies to either. My mom had a tree in our yard cut down because I was allergic to it. Go mom! Enjoy the journey. We will too.
Thank you!!! And yes, the color recipe was on the label so we are good! It was very nice reading your comment!
We’ve been Planting flowers around our cottage, too.🌱🌷
Shelby , One of the luxuries of living in a house with beautiful grounds as U have is connecting with nature, which enables U to plant those luxurious flowers. Jasmine or Roses both r beautiful and smell delicious. Happy Gardening.⚘️🌹🌲🌼🌻
I agree!!
My mom and I loved this video and both agree you should go with roses for the trellis! What fabulous tables you found! Hope you find 2 other chairs to you love, to complete the set. The hydrangeas and pots you chose, look so good on your front porch! Happy Easter & Resurrection Sunday, to you and your family! 💐💗
Thank you so much for watching!
Springtime brings a sense of renewal and vitality. A great season to enjoy with family even at home. 🤍
I love your house! I would choose Jasmin. I have a Tuscany Jasmin and it stays green in wintertime. At least it stays for us in The Netherlands🌿
I'm not sure if that's the correct name in English. I meant the Trachelospermum jasminoides.
Ahh thank you!!
This was so relatable. I am actively trying to select exterior paint colors for my Home, my shutters, and my doors. I see we both reside in Colonial style Homes, architecture-wise. I have always adored the look of shutters on windows but now that I have that, the colors are so NOT me. The previous owner of my Home was a lifelong bachelor that rendered everything hyper-masculine. The House is currently a deep, dark, almost Black Charcoal ⚫️ with Jet-black shutters. Far too dark and gloomy for my taste. I cannot wait to change it, but I am super indecisive about such a major decision as exterior Home colors! I too am also in the market for white-painted, vintage, iron outdoor furniture, knowledge on gardening/landscaping, and being very intentional overall as I continue my decor journey. The green dress you wore to the Easter brunch event was very 60s elegant chic! Thank you for another lovely video, Shelby. 🖤
Thank you so much for your comment! Wow, jet black exterior… I’m not sure I could ever do that. Our last home was a beige with black shutters, but I would definitely need to brighten things up.
I love the wallpaper in your bedroom and the one upstairs. Your house is beautiful, elegant and cozy 😊
Thanks so much! 😊
Roses are gorgeous, but jasmine smells amazing 😍 I have some in my back garden and can't wait to finish my seating area so I can sit by it with a cup of tea in the evenings 😊
Your home is a dream ❤ it’s stunning. The porches are sooo nice!
Hi Shelby!!👋 Your Porch is coming along SO BEAUTIFULLY!!!! LOVE the Vintage Tables that you found! They suit the Porch so perfectly! Loving the idea of you painting the Front Door Green 💚💚💚💚 and that Vintage Door Knocker is STUNNING!! CANNOT wait till the next video!! 😁😁😁
Thank you so much! 🥰
Your house is amazing! I love your style…..it’s classic! Love all you vintage porch furniture!
Thank you!
It’s a lot of work. We had a small
Lot and lots of flowers and a vegetable garden. I was so busy with work, kids, rescue pets and the veggies never thrived. Start small this season and see how it goes
I love the green it will be perfect!💚
I enjoy all your videos. Your home is very lovely. Brooks is adorable!😊
Thanks so much! 😊
I adore your front porch! Also, from a fellow North Carolinian your choice of hydrangeas are perfect!!
Oh thank you!
My mom has the same outdoor set u just got. She's had our circular black one and chairs since the 80s.
Wooow!
@PrettyinthePines yep! It's held up really well. Especially with rain and outdoor environment before she moved it under the awning they built. Only the paint has chipped. It was once white just like yours.
We previously had a house with dark green (almost black) shutters and front door. The paint color was Earthbound Green by Duron.
Ahh good to know. I’ll add that to my list!
Love what you’ve already done so far with the house! It has so much charm 🫶
I love your flower pots that you put on the front porch!!
Hydrangea's are my favorite flower.
Just get a flat screwdriver and scrape a little of the shutter paint color so you can take it to match. That’s what we did at our Hawaii home
I think David Austin would be so beautiful on your porch. Gertrude Jekyll is a beautiful pink trailing rose and don’t forget when it’s winter you cut them back you trim the canes out and it doesn’t go crazy like the confederate Jasmine would. You need at least four hours of sun for your roses and then dappled sun.
Ahh thank you for the tip!
Gorgeous. Love what you've done.
Your home is absolutely beautiful. I am so excited to watch you make it your own.
As far as attaching something to make a trellis you could do eyelet screws into your post and string galvanized wire from side to side making a diamond pattern. My choice for the flowering vine depends on the amount of sunshine you get. From the porch side you may not get as many blossoms as the side facing the yard because of the sunlight so you may want to choose the one that has the best foliage. I have done this technique on a wall and you will need to draw it out so you get symmetry in your spacing.
Ahh thank you for this!!
Just an FYI….”Charleston Green” by Sherwin Williams was for many years and still is the most popular… almost black green … paint many homeowners and designers use in the South. I have been told it got started in Charleston’s Historic District.
Ahh yes, I think that is most likely what we have! We’ll see!
Oh my ,how i love your flowers....❤❤❤❤
Your home is a dream!!!
🌿🌸🌿 I'm so happy for you, and Pearl to have a beautiful garden to play in! 🇨🇦
Your home is absolutely gorgeous!🌸
I really enjoy your videos.
Glad you like them!
Hi Shelby! I love your home and the direction you are taking the decor!!! Love your videos and I was going to also suggest Charleston green for the front door. Lucky you found the old paint can! Have a Happy Easter and I will see you in the next one! Hugs! :)
Yes! Charleston Green seems like the consensus on what the shutters are. I will check it out!
Both. Jasmine is so southern, it’s a must have. 😊😊😊 Roses make everything extra. Especially beautiful when underplanted with clematis.
I totally agree!
I grew up in Southern Virginia and our white cottage had a beautiful dark green louvered door and we had green shutter to match. Whenever I think of home I see that door and the shutters and it just gives me such a sense of joy! Your home is lovely and the door will certainly be a perfect accent to the warmth and comfort your home has.
I love that so much! Thank you!! Excited to see how it turns out!
It's so pretty outside there. I love the big porch. The flowers and pots look great. Love these kind of houses with such character. Enjoy!!
I am just doing a trellis at my 100 year old home. I am doing wisteria and star of jasmine. Good luck and I know your trellis will look gorgeous. Good luck with the green paint. It will look lovely.
Jasmine. I’d do both jasmine on the ends and the roses in the center.
I think that is probably what we will do!
Absolutely love your home ❤
This house just seems to be made for you and your family to step in and be its next caretakers for hopefully many years! I hope you plant some gardenias. To me, no Southern home should be without a gardenia plant. Hugs to Pearl! ❤
I’d go for jasmine. The containers don’t look deep enough for rose roots and the nutrition they need.
Ahh good to know! They are about 18 inches deep
Home ownership is so rewarding, and so much work, but in the vest way. ❤ Enjoy your new outdoor rooms. No matter which plants you choose, I know that they will bring happiness to you with their beauty. The rectangular clay Italian planters (just a guess) are gorgeous!
Happy Easter, and happy spring to you and your family🐣🐰🌷🥀
Can always take a small chip/piece of paint to hardware store & they will paint match it for you (if you dont know the color).
True!!! I think the paint can has the recipe so we’ll see!!
You are so amazing! I love how real you are. Great ideas.
Happy you found the old green paint color on your shutters.
Good thing maybe not going with that old paint...it might very well have lead in it.❤😊
Beautiful home, so many ideas you have and the way you have implemented them. Could you start trellis by planting in the ground as a stronger base?
That would definitely make it stronger but I want it to be a certain height (all the way to the porch ceiling).
I would plant roses for leaf variation from shrub that was to side of porch. Or consider a different climbing plant if not roses. Looks like that area gets lots of shade, so something not requiring lots of sun.
It gets sun for about 4 hours of the day in the morning which is why I was originally thinking jasmine.
I think Jasmine or Clematis armandii would do well in that spot. Japanese beetles make it tough to grow roses in the south without pesticides.
Carolina jasmine! I love mine. The smell is intoxicating. Easy to grow also.
Your house is wonderful!
I love gardening and what I can suggest you is: Roses are beautiful but you have to consider how much light your plants are going to get in this spot. Roses require lot of sun in other to bloom and Jasmin too but I think it will be better for what you have in mind.
Greetings from Italy 🤗
Thank you for the tips!
A pleasure 😊
Jasmine either way you'll have lots of bees hanging around
I look forward to your videos, I find them calming and inspirational. I cannot wait to start putting my home together.
Love that dress; gorgeous!! Cant wait to see that green door🤗
Thank you!! The dress is from Sezane! seza.ne/QhmuJr6ACp
@@PrettyinthePines Thank you!!
Jasmine! Love the paint color for door! We call it Charleston green in the south!
Jasmine for sure
oooh okay I'm leaning that direction!
You continue to show us to your heart! Are neighbors “dropping by” to ask decorating advice?❤ new business opportunities!😱😱😱
🤣🤣 they haven’t yet!!
I would plant the trellis plants in the garden bed, and put up a wire support
We definitely have thought about that! It might be a little crowded in that bed unfortunately.
I definitely vote roses. Love jasmin, but think you could get much longer bloom if you pick the right roses.
Omg I adore your house's interior, it has such a relaxing vibe! It's so gorgeous. Off topic slightly, but seeing as you mentioned the foreo ufo 3, foreo's bear and reformulated serum are 50% off at ulta today for 21 days of beauty. As you said, it's rare for these to be so reduced so it's the perfect chance to snag it 😊
Jasmine!! Gorgeous green color
Note about Jasmine--bees love it.
Jasmine would be very pretty and smell wonderful!
Your porch And home are beautiful....
Check out forbes home article How Long Does Paint Last. You will likely either have latex or acrylic oil. Both can last a significant time. The article talks about how it was stored and signs to check. A big one for latex would be if it has frozen multiple times. There will be no question it is bad and you will see that. Test the paint after mixing on a stir stick. Let it dry. The paint store, which is Sherwin Williams for Duration will mix for you if top is secure. Lowes does also carry Sherwin Williams paint and can mix paint even with the dripped paper on the outside of the can through color matching or scrape a quarter size of paint from the shutters. Colors from other lines are available on the color matching machine, even some of Farrow and Ball. Color names change often, so the same paint could have a new name, but the formula should be the same if you have that on the can. Lowes did sell Valspar, but Sherwin Williams bought Valspar, so you have a combination of both paints offered now under the Sherwin Williams name.
Ahh so good to know!! Thank you so much!
Looks like fun!
HAPPY TUESDAY! Nice plants. STTB*SHARED TO THE BURGH*Pittsburgh PA
Where did you find your gorgeous trellis? Your style is absolutely beautiful, as is your lovely family. Love to see Pearl, we miss our newf…best dogs ever!!
Jasmine or roses? It depends on what color and/or scent you want to go with. Loving the hydrangeas and the pots. Patiently waiting for the spring flowers to arrive up north here. I'm getting the pots ready outside. My hydrangea is starting to sprout new shoots and can't wait
Jasmine will take off! I vote roses! And for flowers get a large pack of burpee wildflowers at home depot , learn varieties and go from there. ?
