      Honestly the worst part is loosening the upper control arm nuts that hold the shims in place

    I've done some of this work before but it's been so long I wasn't sure about the spring tension and I'm about to do a ball joint on the front of a 99 Astro.
    I like your safety measures of leaving crown nuts on..
    Now I have the confidence to go out and do my work.👍

      Agreed, this helped tremendously when working on my 02. Those rear nuts are a bear because of the clearance. I definitely recommend a very long 18mm.

    I’m in the situation where I was driving and the upper balljoint broke, either replace the ball joint or whole control arm with ball joint

    • @theman9764
      @theman9764  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would suggest to just replace the whole control arm simply because it'll come with new upper bushings, plus the old original one could be tweaked a little making it difficult to align

    Hey Dan the man
    I have a 97 gmc Sonoma with the same problems and I had taken it to a shop near where I live they replaced my upper control arms driver and passenger sides with ball joints and new front bearings. But I’ve been noticing that in the area underneath the control arms were the spacers go they put electrical tape instead of the rubber shims is that common? Cause I’ve been hearing bad rubbing sounds coming from the front of my truck! And every time I call and tell them that I hear a rubbing sound they blow me off, and say to keep keep using it until it gets worse and then bring it in!?? Can you please give me any suggestions Sir

    • @theman9764
      @theman9764  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @Cottonleg

      They probably taped the shims together to not loose them and make it easier to put back together.
