I had a set of Mini Sport 1.3 : 1 roller rockers where the roller tip came loose and elongated the pin hole. Mini Sport had spare arms and after i sent them back the faulty arms for evaluation they sent replacement arms to me. Still have them.

Hi Dave, for what it is worth, a friend of mine who just passed away. (fastest man in Europe in 1973) told me they fitted these roller rockers to his dragster and it made no difference so they re-fitted the original rockers. Best of luck.

Thanks for the info, I have manged to get another set but if i have anymore issues i will just use the original rocker setup, Cheers Dave

MED rockers are the best quality you can buy. But I still distrust them, having heard many stories, and even had my own experiences of failures. It is possible to buy 1.3 rockers that are standard rockers. Standard rockers are very strong. A C Dodd modifies standard rockers. It is the adjusters that seem to fail. I’ve had my own experience of adjuster failure, with stripping of the thread in the rocker assembly.

Paul Jeffries mentioned about the AC Dodds are slightly modified original rocer arms and shafts, I may just go back to basics. Cheers Dave

Will be interesting to hear what MED have to say, looks like something has gone badly wrong there. Pretty poor not supplying spares.

Andrew, I will talk with the owner at MED Steve and ask him why they don‘t carry spares as there not a cheap item to buy. Customer services
seems to be a thing of the past. Cheers Dave

Tony, Unfortunately for car owners the parts market has got better for the retailers apart from stock levels since the lockdown, In some cases there is more free time and a bit more disposable income, The attitude of the retailers is there is little to no customer services just profit, This is the price take it or leave it. This one damaged rocker replacement is a perfect example of there attitude, Buy the whole thing or nothing. Cheers Dave

i was just about to order some for my mini seven s race car ,,, kinda wondering now if it is worth the risk to power gain

The problem is i don‘t know if the nut came loose and then the vibration backed out the adjuster or the alloy thread gave way, There is nothing wrong with the valve as i have checked it. The problem was the engine had not been run for awhile and with the HC and a 45 weber the plugs foul very
easily, I will use the roller rockers again as they are better than standard tappets but i will check the valve clearance before each track day.
      Cheers Dave

Good Rant Dave ,it`s feckin bollocks these days that suppliers get away with this shit ,may`be it`s our fault again as we allow it by giving them repeat custom ,but when you are limited with custom parts it`s difficult, hope the next track day is more successful

Peter, I couldn't agree more but like you say they know we need the parts and then treat us like shit Customer services is a thing of the past
that‘s for sure. Hopefully the second hand roller rockers will do the job or i will go back to the originals. Cheers Dave

@@ClassicCarCave We do aim to keep all spare shafts, posts, arms and adjusters in stock. However at the moment, as we explained to Paul within minutes of the question coming over, we do not have any spare arms of the side that you need on the shelf. We have a half set of 1.3s, but the rollers are in the wrong position.
We would strip down a new set to help, but are awaiting completion of the new batch next week. As a stop-gap fix, we put you in touch with a friend, Kieran, who had some spares. Sorry if you feel this is "shit customer service".

    • @ClassicCarCave

Lee, Steve, I'm very grateful you put Paul on to your friend and the used roller rockers are on there way to Austria, But at 265 pounds a
set i just couldn't see why at least one ot two spare rocker arms left & right couldn't be kept in stock. I don‘t think this was too much to
expect and clearly so do a few other people looking at the comments. Cheers Dave

That’s crazy that they don’t sell spares! Be nice to find out who’s making them, I’m sure it wouldn’t be too difficult for them to supply spares. I’m assuming the coils were not bottoming out

    • @ClassicCarCave

Never been a fan of roller rockers.
A good friend of mine had a simolar problem a few years back.
Put in a standard rocker set and never had a problem again.

I can see how the roller rocker would be easier and smoother on the valve stem but the alloy is the weak point for me. Cheers Dave

Dave, that’s a damn pisser. Someone should shipping you a new rocker no cost because that’s a catastrophic failure that shouldn’t have happened. Don’t know if I missed it but did you get the floor pan damage sorted out? Thanks for video. Cheers 🍻 John

    • @ClassicCarCave
      @ClassicCarCave  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

John, MED said they have never had one fail sounds like BS to me! I know some one who had a rocker arm snap in two but they where from minispares but i don‘t know if the replaced them or not. The floor pan on the beige Mini Cooper yes and they repainted it! Cheers Dave

After my phone conversation with Lee i feel better about the situation, As i suggested regardless of what was at fault carrying a few spare arms would be good for customer service and i‘m happy to by a separate rocker arm if you have it in stock. Cheers Dave

Gary, The engine was built by Paul Jeffries in the UK so i didn't torque the head down and the engine was pre run in Paul‘s mini so we could
take it to a rolling road and have it tuned up 113hp at the wheels & 112.06 Ft/lbs of torque it‘s pretty rapid lol. Cheers Dave
