They need to start making ELRS gear, instead of only competing with it. Many would love to buy TBS ELRS gear. And many of those, like me, won't buy TBS another way. This is coming from someone with many, many Crossfire RX and modules that I haven't used in years.
Disagree with binning Tracer. If you look at all the feedback on ELRS everyone says the initial friction to get into it is quite difficult. One of the biggest selling points for Crossfire is that it’s far easier. So, if they improve the RC link capability of Tracer through firmware, get it on all of their BNF deals with manufacturers- their selling point for Tracer, is “Easy ELRS”. Even at the higher price point, people will pay for convenience. Although the price difference between ELRS and Crossfire has decreased.
i've got about 5+ years on my Crossfire Mini starter kit. It has been flawless. It just works. My biggest disappointment with the mambo is having to run my crossfire module in it. i just want a simple full figured crossfire remote with nice gimbals that i don't need to run a module in.
Thanks Mads. I'm a CRSF guy, but going to experiment with ELRS. I've seen quite a bit of development in RadioMaster ELRS hardware recently and it's got me quite curious. Anyway, I appreciate your time, so thank you very much.
I only had two failsafes in 6 years on CRSF. ELRS 2.4ghz failsafes way more often for me. Tried two different brand transmitters and receivers. CRSF is just more robust.
Very cool im second year in the hobby just moved from frsky to crossfire and its amazing and super easy to bind! As for being an option for bnf is a bonus not so hot at soldering yet thank for the update!! .
I had a tbs issue once and Trappy helped me out instantly and was nice about it even though it was a school boy error on my part, can’t say the same for other companies who tried to make out something was my fault when it was their crap QC I’ll always have time for anything to do with TBS 🤝
IMHO one things TBS _needs_ to add to their Receivers is what Radiomaster just did with their new ExpressLRS Lineup and that is the absolutely crucial VBat Telemetry readout capability. I find it ridiculous that as a CrossFire User I have to rely on third party MatekSys Adapter Boards to get such functionality when apparently it is possible to have something like that available on a Receiver itself with the use of a single V+ Cable 😑
Keypoint is that ELRS has no proper certification for the EU which means they might run LBT and only 100 mW but there is more. And then you only have TBS crossfire left cause Trappy has to arrive safely in the EU and Switzerland without issues like other chinese brand owners that are not expecting trouble at the customs when they are held responsible. I have started ELRS again after a first adventure over 2 years ago with that R9 module from fr sky I had tried to flash and was not really convinced cause it was a long a winding road. But my Crossfire system with 3 receivers in total will stay with me which I had ordered in those glory old days before shortage & inflation and other nightmare for 220€ as a kit with a Radiomaster TX16S. And I still love it and I was really happy to hear the story and what was going on that caused the slow down or stall of tbs. Trappy has lost a former business friend and has learned a lot from that, so he might be keen to develope the brand now alone without being chained to a partner who does not agree or work against it in his back. I hope that at chrismas we will have seen some changes, upgrades, improvements too simply to start buying early the next kit.
TBS crossfire has been a staple for me over my 4 years flying. I put it in my 1st quad and have never looked back. It is the only FPV related product that has been a constant as well as foul proof. Never lost a link, not even once. Happy to see them on a better path. Crossfire is the only purchase I have made that has stood the test of time.
problem is: Crossfire on 900mhz works with great range, but has a conflict with 1.2/1.3 ghz video systems, and needs filtration just to work. It also conflicts with the 900mhz long range TELEMETRY systems such as RFD900x. Works fine with 433mhz telemetry, but that is rare and hard to find nowadays. So totally agree with need for 2.4 LRS, so that the conflict can be avoided.
9 Months later - still thinking, what's going on. Video wise, I moved to DJI O3. Still controlling by stuff, even the big wings, with my beloved Tango2. But I'm more and more thinking, if this has future. ELRS grew, it became mature and stable. What's left? There is currently no small Radio with the build quality of the Tango2. But 10 years ago, I had a Tango1 with Crossfire, a TBS VTX, TBS Cam, TBS Antenna, TBS Table, TBS Powercube. Most of the things are gone. No Betaflight Support for Powercube anymore, no digital VTX, no news from Crossfire. The folding table is still there, and the Tango2. Sad...
When I was first getting into FPV there was not that much when it came to getting good information. However one thing that I noticed was that TBS was consistently showing up as a preferred item such as the crossfire system but also the VTX units, etc... And to that end I purchased a TBS Mambo feeling like it was the best radio on the market with only a few drawbacks, one of them was that it came with Freedom TX instead of Open TX or Edge TX. BUT they said "coming soon" and so I said sure, yes, let's get a Mambo. Now about 2 years later I am still waiting for this seemingly simple upgrade. So if Trappy wants to show a little bit of "were back" and "were still the best" and "we are taking care of our customers" might I suggest that he start with the Edge TX upgrade! I think that with Edge TX installed this radio becomes a head to head competitor with the RadioMaster Boxer on almost all features.
turns out this isnt as simple as we first thought :) EdgeTX has done many (necessary) structural changes, and while we worked hard to get OpenTX integrated it sort of died off. We've had OpenTX support ready almost at the start, and then they changed the operating system following an EdgeTX PR, and then EdgeTX rocket-shipped their development. So, we've missed the bus twice now, but third time is the charm? :)
@@raphaelpirker3406 Well, I feel good that I was ahead of my time here picking what is becoming the most popular form factor for the radios. I do wish that you would figure out how to get the Mambo to work with the latest operating systems, perhaps a board swap??? Anyway I really like my Mambo but I feel the gimbals are just a touch behind the Boxers. I saw that there is a gimbal upgrade but at first glance, this did not seem like a serious upgrade, not on par with the AG01 gimbal level of quality. The Boxer is a great radio, the Jumper looks really good, so you have some serious competition so I hope you not only come out with something better than these 2, not sure what that would be but I am not sure that a 3rd good radio in that space is really needed, it would have to be next level... I hope you guys can do it. One of the reasons I went for the Mambo was because the TBS brand had made a great impression on me so I expected the Mambo to be awesome - and it really was at the time, To be honest, the Mambo works just fine even today - I just wish that you never noted that the EDGE/OPEN TX upgrade was coming soon because then I would not have baked it in to how I see about this radio.
It boggles the mind that instead of saying “I don’t want to do this anymore, buy me out” the partners solution was “I’m going to fuck the company I started just because I can”. I’ve also gone back to my Tango 2 after a period using a Zorro, the Tango 2 is just so much better.
My tango2 is still a daily driver. Boxer and mambo are pretty similar, though frankly the user experience of elrs does leave a lot to be desired compared to ota updates of crsf. the whoop board with crsf seemed interesting tho I personally have yet to test it. Interesting tea indeed regarding ownership shift.
Tango2 is my Goto... So nice I bought it twice... My Boxer is ok... I do crossfire for 3.5" and up... ELRS for whoops... would love the new Mango to come out. with internal crossfire and tracer or ELRS. 900 for bigger 2.4 for micros.... just need the shoulder arm button to be a little nicer....
I'm quite new to the hobby, but I invested everything into ELRS from the start. And since I haven't had any previous experience with any other rc links yet, I didn't get mad at the "hassle" with ELRS either. I got the Zorro right now, but I would really like to try out the Tango controller. If they make a Tango 3 with built in ELRS, then I would jump at it right away, but it seems like that might not be feasible considering ELRS is their main competitor(even though its open-source), which is a great shame in my case, because it probably means I will never buy a TBS product.
Every one of my birds are TBS crossfire even my micros are tbs and will go out farther then any video signal can match on a mini or micro, and my long range rigs ….yes people still do long range…..they are all TBS and putting out massive power, I live in rural NE Texas and I can easily fly to any spot on my farm. I can also fly out several miles to the nearest town and back no problem. Glad TBS will be around a while longer
Didn't know about TBS's internal struggles. Guess the founder that left was Remo Masina and Christoph Dunkel. Remo helped a lot regarding any CRSF issues in the lounge (guess he is their main SW engineer) till about 2019. Now we know why.
Hence why I've never jumped on the expresslrs band wagon, Crossfire ftw and will continue to support TBS by sticking with them and buying their products.
In regards to Tracer, TBS needs to step it up in the features market to match Ghost and ELRS. Both of those systems are offering faster update rates, in one case to 1KHz packet update rate. While Tracer is still only able to do 250Hz since it's introduction back in late 2020.
@@bugsy742 Crossfire can only do 50Hz or 150Hz packet update rates. If doing long range or when you want good link quality/dBm you should be using 50Hz. If looking for lower latency and better stick feel for racing, set to 150Hz. The drawback to 50Hz is higher latency while 150Hz is not good for long range and can be more susceptible to fail-safes if others are also running on 150Hz and-or 900MHz since bandwidth is smaller on 900MHz versus 2.4gHz. Channel hoping becomes more of an issue on Crossfire or other 900MHz systems when more than four people are using it or if someone is running at higher TX output power. But with 2.4gHz when running Tracer, Ghost, ELRS, or other 2.4 systems channel hoping isn't an issue.
@@bugsy742 there are other factors too if getting failsafes on any RC control system. -Antenna orientation -RF environment -Antenna placement -TX power output -Damaged equipment (TX and-or RX) -Packet update rate -LOS between the radio and the quad/wing/etc. There are several other factors to consider too that I'm not listing, but it could be one thing or a combination of different things that could be causing failsafes.
I could tell TBS was a fly-by-night sorta homebrew treasure chest of products that could be awesome and then went semi-full production retail. It's almost like if I started a company and it got popular, but I had no idea what I was doing, which I don't. That actually appeals to me! However, I always hovered over the "buy" button knowing this. I noticed over the years the hype, traffic, stock, etc on the TBS site was getting thin and I started to distance myself from it. But, it never fully disappeared. It has been an interesting case study in the retail world, FPV in general, how to do business, etc. That being said, I don't think I've purchased anything from TBS, lol. Whatever. Time to charge a battery.
I finally gave up on TBS after their equipment broke yet again on my vacation. This is 2 for 2. And no stock available to buy anywhere. Just bought a starter kit for ELRS so i don't have to be dependent on a specific company being around for me to fly.
If the tracer TX and RX hardware are compatible with ELRS, it would be very smart for TBS to come out with a firmware update to convert tracer hardware to ELRS. Since the Tracer system doesn’t have any traction on the market, TBS would make way more money if they made their Tracer hardware run ELRS firmware. Even if the TBS RX and TX are a little more expensive compared to other ELRS RX and TX, it would sell because TBS has much better support.
I used CRSF and it became a headache that time when that situation with Agent X...I was an early adopter of ELRS..and i think i am probably staying there. Same range...cheaper..easier to bind (to me) .

I've allways liked tbs but I started flying beginning of 23 and like you said they were in a funk so I went elrs but now I'd be happy to invest into new products the tbs grinder motors kick ass !!!
crossfire may be a little more expensive than the alternatives, sure, but i will be loyal to TBS until it is not offered anymore. TBS has shown me the greatest customer service out of any company i have ever dealt with. I bought my tango 2 pro from a 3rd party seller on amazon that had absolutely no affiliation with TBS whatsoever, and yet, when i encountered an issue, TBS worked tirelessly to solve it for me and even sent me a new mainboard for my radio completely for free. they didn't have to do any of that, so they certainly bought my loyalty there. not to mention that crossfire just works. It works flawlessly and easily every. single. time.
Any plans to integrate a TBS Crossfire plug on flight controllers? Or maybe integrate the Nano receiver into a flight controller? It's too bad the DJI 03 air unit has such a poor controller2 to go with it. It really forces everyone to remove sbus and go with Crossfire or ELRS. A sub 250 build would really benefit from an integrated control link without the extra boards, wires, tiny solder joints, and antenna.
TBS needs to read the available comments. It is nearly free demographic canvassing! If TBS developed a video transmitter to buddy up with their data system, I think they would nail that market.
Trappy has been arrogant about the power of his brand for ages. He never believed anyone could compete with crossfire, and he laughed at Ghost and ELRS. Meanwhile, crossfire was never updated, and he thought they could release tracer despite the old tech, and brand name recognition would win out. You don't have to guess about this stuff, he says it out loud on stream. He's an ass. They deserved to be outcompeted. They were like IBM in the 80s. They needed a Microsoft and Apple to come along and show them what innovation looks like. I'm not sorry. Ain't gonna fly a 50hz link in 2023 for MORE money, sorry...
They messed up by not working with RDQ. When I started looking for an upgrade from D16 I searched RDQ for their TX and went with something else. 🤷 Pride can create more trouble than it's worth.
Still no sign of stock on tx modules , still uncertain whsts actually happening with them , getting frustrated personally not being able to buy more of crossfire gear , elrs is stsrting to look appealing
there are many dealers who received stock recently, but it is getting sold out quick due to our extended "downtime" earlier this year. Tango 2 is almost fully caught up on all backlogged orders, MicroTX and FullsizeTX are going to be done by end of September.

love my mambo and my other TBS product's so glad trappy was able to get his company back.🤘🤘
Trappy and TBS has been at the forefront of my FPV experience for many, many years. Love me some Crossfire and Unify Pro 🤙🏻
They need to start making ELRS gear, instead of only competing with it. Many would love to buy TBS ELRS gear. And many of those, like me, won't buy TBS another way. This is coming from someone with many, many Crossfire RX and modules that I haven't used in years.
I personally know Trappy and passion he has for flying is like no other ! He's a true inspiration to me and others. The man is a true genius 👊
I am hopeful Trappy will right size the TBS ship……and give us 1w built in ELRS on the Tango2 👍👍
Nice to know that tbs is not dead.
Built in crsf in a mambo would be sooo sick! I have 2 tango2s but would love to fly something new like the mambo
I prefer tbs crossfire over elrs.
Elrs is good but crossfire is more intuitive and just plain works.
I was looking for a new TBS Fusion the last couple days and nobody has them in stock so I had to buy a Skyzone steadyview X
I use to make that argument, but I don’t really feel like it’s the case anymore with ELRS
i've got about 5+ years on my Crossfire Mini starter kit. It has been flawless. It just works. My biggest disappointment with the mambo is having to run my crossfire module in it. i just want a simple full figured crossfire remote with nice gimbals that i don't need to run a module in.
Glue it lol
Tango 2 with CNC Gimbal Upgrade and you are good to go. Best radio! 👌
@@MrSmithFPV i don't like little controllers. and the tango 1 had a stupid screen.
As for being an option for bnf is a bonus not so hot at soldering yet thank for the update!!
.
Still very happy with my crossfire setup on my LR drones.
I’ve been lucky to have several crsf receivers! My favourite stuff on the market.
I had a tbs issue once and Trappy helped me out instantly and was nice about it even though it was a school boy error on my part, can’t say the same for other companies who tried to make out something was my fault when it was their crap QC
I’ll always have time for anything to do with TBS 🤝
You just need GS and a 5.8g video relay.....Ask me how I know...🤔😳😳😏🇬🇧
But then you would still need to put filters on the 1.2ghz video if you use it with 2.4 control
I’m personally very glad. I still run xfire on all my rc toys. Excellent range ease of use what’s not to like. Love it
9 Months later - still thinking, what's going on. Sad...
We need crossfire v4 and a CRSF Nano Diversity Pro. Crossfire 4 life!💯👌🔥
When I was first getting into FPV there was not that much when it came to getting good information.
It would be a good option to flash elrs to the crossfire hardware.
That could be a game changer.
Really hope they get back to the top
I would love to see HD analog.
A Mambo Crossfire was the first ever Mambo that existed 😅
My tango2 is still a daily driver. Boxer and mambo are pretty similar, though frankly the user experience of elrs does leave a lot to be desired compared to ota updates of crsf. the whoop board with crsf seemed interesting tho I personally have yet to test it. Interesting tea indeed regarding ownership shift.
Tbs forever, always be a loyal customer
TBS for life!
Had the Tracer system since it was released and its the best,TBS just works great and ultra fast
They need to make a mambo with crossfire built in and edge tx.
Great to know, Ian! Thanks!!! 😊
Yeah, I hope they can get to the top fast!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Hence why I've never jumped on the expresslrs band wagon, Crossfire ftw and will continue to support TBS by sticking with them and buying their products.
Me too, it's quality...😳😏😏🇬🇧
In regards to Tracer, TBS needs to step it up in the features market to match Ghost and ELRS. Both of those systems are offering faster update rates, in one case to 1KHz packet update rate. While Tracer is still only able to do 250Hz since it's introduction back in late 2020.
How much do these numbers correlate I wonder as I’ve had failsafes on everything apart from Crossfire 🤔
@@BikeGuyFPV mate this is a fantastic explanation 👍✊ really appreciate you taking the time to write it out for me 🤝🤝🤝
@@bugsy742 there are other factors too if getting failsafes on any RC control system.
-Antenna orientation
-RF environment
-Antenna placement
-TX power output
-Damaged equipment (TX and-or RX)
-Packet update rate
-LOS between the radio and the quad/wing/etc.
There are several other factors to consider too that I'm not listing, but it could be one thing or a combination of different things that could be causing failsafes.
@@BikeGuyFPV thank you 🙏
I am probably one of many that would only try ELRS if it was on TBS hardware, as you just know it would be a step above
The Last time I bought from TBS it was for a $59 RadioMaster Radio... Inexpensive ELRS no doubt that hurt them.
I want to take a dive into the FPV world and wanted to go with a full tbs set up but everything out of stock.
I finally gave up on TBS after their equipment broke yet again on my vacation. This is 2 for 2. And no stock available to buy anywhere. Just bought a starter kit for ELRS so i don't have to be dependent on a specific company being around for me to fly.
I was using crossfire and will not stop using crossfire.
Hey Trappy, can you puhleeese put the Pro32 Nano back in production? They're getting so scarce on the used market, so that'd be sooo sweet!
I used CRSF and it became a headache that time when that situation with Agent X...I was an early adopter of ELRS..and i think i am probably staying there. Same range...cheaper..easier to bind (to me) .
Please get a video showing how to get crossfire head tracking working
Tbs is my favorite hands down. Crossfire and tracer all day
would be nice to see you do an interview with TBS on this channel
Trappy hates me. He things I’m a Welsh carrot.
HELLO i have a simple question . if i only fly air mode on a freestyle 5 inch . do i have to enable the barometer and magnatometer .??? thank you MADS .
Nope you don’t need them at all for just Acro with our with out airmode.
@@MadRC thank you . i use crossfire and it took me a while to learn , i am a bit of a special case in the tech department . so i am staying with it i lock it on 50hz .
my tx 16s has built in ELRS i figured i would get with the times but i know i cant do the elrs config bind phrase/ build in BF
so until i learn how i just make mediocre jokes about it .
ELRS is the viagra of the RC industry . they make it real hard . .
when you are bored would you please have a look at my retro VORTEX flying .
be well thanks as always .
I think Lost their their way. I ordered a fusion from them. When I got it the button was broken in the box. I reached out to tbs and they told me I would have to pay for a new button $7 plus shipping and handling. Last tbs product I purchased.
TBS remote Id module?
Haha
Would be cool to have ability to put ELRS firmware on their tracer RX
Tango style and quality controller with EdgeTX and ELRS? Sign me up.
When I started I used Crossfire, and I still only use Crossfire
TBS needs to read the available comments. It is nearly free demographic canvassing!
If TBS developed a video transmitter to buddy up with their data system, I think they would nail that market.
I love my tango 2.
I’ve been saying that if TBS manufactured ELRS receivers I’d buy them
I hope trappy gets tbs going profitably for himself. I'm not sure fpv would exist without trappy
I only ever fly Crossfire. It just works.
Any reason to move from elrs to tbs other than brand loyalty?
Pride can create more trouble than it's worth.
