Jeep's Patriot small SUV is related to the Jeep Compass and Dodge Caliber, but has a more upright body. It uses the same 2.0- and 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engines found in the Caliber, which we found slow and noisy.The base 2016 Jeep Patriot has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 158 horsepower. A 172-horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine is optional on front-wheel drive models and standard on models with four-wheel drive. A five-speed manual transmission is standard with both engines. There are two types of automatic transmissions: a six-speed that is available with most 2.4-liter models, and a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that is available with 2.0-liter models and 2.4-liter models with the Freedom Drive II package.
