I loved this mini series. So well done and rare is a costume drama to be so spot on.

This is such a strong cast. Gary Lewis as the father in this episode is particularly excellently portrayed. So sympathetic a characterisation, countered with how cruel what he put his daughter through was. Left me feeling the Fieldings had ruined his life even though they hadn't created his awful situation (still, it's possibly their activities pushed him over the edge?) Rosa Hoskins as Clarissa has few lines in comparison but gave a very accurate, believable and raw portrayal. I had to stop the video in the second harpsichord scene, having seen it before and knowing what was about to happen ("Nooo! Don't do it!!). The final scene with father and daughter was both so moving yet disturbing and so so well done (again, briefly forgetting it's not real and feeling so sad for her). Ian McDiarmid as Henry Fielding, excellent as ever. Always gives a performance in this role showing the steely grit and determination balanced with jovial bonhomie. Such and expressive actor, the little smiles and glances in this one that mean "I'm so terribly sorry" in one moment and "will you shut it and let the man speak and stop being such an oaf!" (in the scene when they wait for the gang at the house).
If any of the cast are checking back here (I know people in the acting profession who love that their performances are able to remain online, tacitly permitted on sites like this one): I wish I could give you each your own review. And that's for the entire series and not just this episode (the Molly House episode definitely deserves a long review for the principle cast, who we never see again, at the very least: so, so moving).
This series was really, so very excellently done. I return to it occasionally when there's nothing on telly and continue to recommend it.
    Best regards!

Probably the longest comment on TH-cam....but apt. This is excellent

What a wonderfully detailed, eloquent and excellently composed review! You should have your own column in a newspaper or magazine, reviewing the entertainment of the day.

@@zappababe8577 That's most kind of you to say, thank you! As I say, I know a number of people in the acting profession who privately like that their performances can be viewed on TH-cam, as long as no one takes them down, and I know they watch themselves back, so who knows, someone in this might Google themselves and then read the comments below and feel happy to think a performance is still highly thought of years later.
One of my relatives also enters home-made films into contests and mentioned it can take 100 hours of work just for one short hour on a low-budget thing with low production values- on TH-cam someone spends 50 hours on each ten-minute video! So when I see an hour's really excellent content I know hundreds of hours have likely gone into making it: the very least I can do is share a few short words that occur to me that the cast and crew may stumble upon and come to appreciate, perhaps someone in casting might Google and actor and see that the person is well liked still today and the performances still viewed and appreciated repeatedly years later, and then cast the person in a new production off the back of a good, well-liked review, who knows.
And if others also enjoy my few thoughts such as your good self then that is very gratifying too, thank you! I've written a few economics and foreign affairs pieces for one or two publications and I know someone who's a celebrity and entertainment columnist for a British broadsheet, perhaps I ought to look into the entertainment side of things too, thank you! If you know of any openings please do let me know! :)

Did you all notice that, in the bedroom scene where Mr. Anderson speaks to his dead daughter before cutting his throat, the candles were, in fact, cleverly designed electric candelabras? Go back and look closely. Not one frame wavers. Every bulb is uniform and static.
