I gotta say, SEGA used to have a lot of soul in their games. Whether they were ever popular, or well received, they usually had this vibrant, cartoony quality to them that you couldn't mistake as anyone's style but SEGA's. Monkey Ball, Billy Hatcher, and Samba de Amigo are all prime examples. They put their all into making the games seem goofy and fun, and they usually turned out alright in the end, too. I never grew up with SEGA, but if modern SEGA was more like this, I'd be an avid fan.
@SonicMagic The Hegdehog At the moment it seems they’re actually trying to expand their horizons again. They’ve been pretty supportive of the Yakuza series, they’re making a new Sakura Wars, they released Streets of Rage 4 a while back, Phantasy Star Online 2 got an American release earlier this year, they’re making a new Panzer Dragoon. Really, it seems they’ve only given up on Sonic, which is the right choice in my opinion. However, it seems they aren’t trying to appeal to America at all, just focusing on Japan, so Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, And Nights are still dead. Bummer.
I just realized that each console manufacturer has their own rhythm game. Sega has Samba De Amigo, Sony has Parappa the Rapper, Xbox has guitar hero, and Nintendo has Rhythm Heaven.
He needs to at least have some recognition in Ultimate A Spirit set of the main cast (Samba, Linda, Rio, Monkey Girl, Bingo, Bongo and the Cheetahs) or maybe a Mii costume of the Fighter would work best for his series though since its a very smaller, less known brand. Maybe if Samba gets a Switch port of some kind, he might have a small chance, but until then I can only see spirits or mii costume for this funky monkey
Maybe not as a fighter but I certainly think he should have some sort of recognition. Like a mii costume and maybe even give him the sans treatment with adding the games main theme along with him. I certainly think robotnic/eggman should be a fighter as most of the main heros have their rivals/enemies in the game except sonic.
EDIT: WE DID IT GAMERS!!!!!! It the case of Samba, I love him and his series as a concept. The title screen really characterized the games colorful and cooky cast and the song makes you say "omg its my childhood all over" But in gameplay standards, I wouldve expected a scenery that is more...ehhh....spaced? I like the area, but honestly its so crowded in a small space and also character movements are extremely awkward sometimes (Especially with Linda the butterfly performer..wtf is that dance?) He really was just tossed into Sega side games with AiAi and just left to wither. You probably only remember him from the Tennis or Racing game. Which is why I'm begging Nintendo to at least think about putting Samba on Switch with at least a port. The idea is so easy, the Joycons can be Maracas (which could both be easy to do and also a good way to maybe make maraca patterned joycons to sell) and the game could have its chance to be a masterpiece in 2020 graphics Here's to Samba and hoping his series at least gets remembered
Tbh, it seems kinda lazy. The best thing is the fsct that they adapted the imput to the non-height-sensing Wii controls (by instead using the controllers' angles) and the 2D graphics and 3D models were touched up, but...there's still so much that's directly lifted from the Dreamcast games regardless of how well it aged - especially the animations, staging, and blocking. It's another example of the Yooka-Laylee problem, staying _so_ true to the original that it just feels dated even while it's fresh.
