    Holy shit that was impressive. Apart from a few shots - which I assume are quite stylized - most of these looked damn near real, I was surprised by every reveal.

    I'm starting to notice more and more examples where I'm no longer capable of spotting CG, to the point where I get surprised by the reveal :)

    • @TeamFlamingStones

      miguelyea123455 ...No, that's not what I meant at all. Video is an illusion no matter what, you can't argue "well it's not real". How can the possibilities of making completely realistic fantasy worlds be bad?

    • @miguelyea123455
      @miguelyea123455 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      TeamFlamingStones i didn't mean that is bad, I meant that is incredible to see this images but is also scary how is the future gonna be in 10 years? Yo know what u mean?

    • @TeamFlamingStones
      @TeamFlamingStones 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      miguelyea123455 I understand what you're concerned about, however I believe there are bigger things that will change our future ten years from now than CGI. Climate change is one of the greater.
      But then being scared for the future isn't very productive, change will happen. It's better to choose the causes that are the most important to you, and do something to ensure focus is being put upon it.

    3650 shots??!!
    Why did they shoot everything with greenscreen? Just to proove that it's possible?
    Nice job from the artists though.

    • @KeithMer679
      @KeithMer679 9 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Costs and a controllable environment. They never have to worry about bad weather etc. Getting permission to record on location and keeping continuity between each shot, there are many reasons.

    • @CGSky
      @CGSky 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Keith Mer yeah right, but if they have the budget for complete cgi environments, they could have also build sets from that budget. But I get the point in using cgi, though this must have been a hard job for the artists I guess.

      +blenderrendersky I could swear I see some models from Daz3D.... The city street level scenes I mean... In all reality, as long as your locations are flexable, there are thousands of pre-built CG models one could buy and do this with.

      The trilogy is based on at series of childrens books where the world is very wellknown by all the kids - so the decision was made to stay as close to the "book world" as possible - and that was not possible with sets, narratively limiting and prohibitly expensive. Also to stay with a slightly non-realistic "elevated fantasy" look and keep continuity - all was decided to go cg.

    How did they make the match moving tracking when the camera got blur & panning fast?

    • @dsakax
      @dsakax 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +hafiz miau my guess is that the blur and extra panning were added later... Also, in a production with such big green screen environments, more than match moving, they must have used motion controlled cameras, where they record the motion of cameras when shooting, and then reproducing that movement in the 3D enviroment, so no need of tracking points for matchmove...

    • @hafizmiau
      @hafizmiau 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @alexandrumoraras
    @alexandrumoraras 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    awesome CGI, but was it cheaper to do all of this in cg? or they did it just as a personal preference? I mean, normally it should cost less to shoot in a house than to make it in cgi...

    • @ParanormalIndiana
      @ParanormalIndiana 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Alexandru Moraras Not entirely true. A CG house is a simple creation, and is often a combination of stock models anyway. The logistics of location shooting make it not only more expensive, but time consuming. You have to get everyone to the house, cater at the house, move all the equipment, set practical lighting, etc.

    • @alexandrumoraras
      @alexandrumoraras 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know its not that hard , but is it less expensive to make all this in 3d? than to shoot it on location. Don't get me wrong. I like to see this all done in 3d, I'm just comparing costs.

    • @ParanormalIndiana
      @ParanormalIndiana 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Alexandru Moraras the cost comparison is hard to make without knowing their budget in detail. CG costs depend on the studio and level of complexity. It is entirely possible that CG could be cheaper than live action locations... No one likes shooting on location as its one of the largest drains on a budget. studio shooting on a greenscreen not only might save money over needing to build giant sets (which even in a studio require tons of space and months of work), but it allows for super quick setups and less logistics, thus calling for a smaller crew. Greenscrean also allows flexability for actors that locations don't, which can save money.

    • @ParanormalIndiana
      @ParanormalIndiana 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Alexandru Moraras so in the end, id say its no more expensive, and gives them tons of flexability.
