    I'm currently a senior in high school and in the fall I will be a freshman in college. I'm going on the pre med track and watching your videos really excites me about med school because I've had this passion for medicine since I was a kid and its slowly becoming real. I know it's pretty early on but I'm already taking down your tips In notes so I can prepare for later on. I love your videos, great job!

    idk why some of my comments won't post but:
    @Regina Liu: that totally counts as patient contact! you'll hear lots of cool stories from the patients. As you get more comfortable at the place, ask for more/diff volunteering opportunities :)
    @Halima Jafiya: definitely try e-mailing her again to tactfully remind her. People forget things all the time. Even if she didn't really forget, it'll put contacting you back on top of her list of things to do! If she gets mad about a gentle reminder, she probably won't be that great to shadow anyway so you have nothing to lose as long as you're being professional & courteous! best of luck!

    Thank you for your tips! I am working at a hospital as a nurse on the weekend while taking my 1st yr chem class in the summer. I have a long way to go to med school due to the prereqs. Research opportunities are rare where I am, and I don't know how to find hospital research but I just emailed a professor who is doing a research at a local university near me. Your videos inspire me so much!

    Just to add to the amazing advice in the video. Make sure your pre-med experiences are authentic for you. Meaning choose things you are actually interested in and have some passion about not things you think would look "better" to an acceptance committee. It is easy to tell who truly enjoyed their summer research position and who just did it as a resume builder. Pick things you can talk about passionately which will go a long way to convey your enthusiasm for a future in medicine.

    I support everything that you say but I personally believe that what premeds should do during their summer time is have fun, and lots of it. There will not be a single day in your adult life that you will be able to enjoy yourself if you think of going into the field of medicine. It's an extremely demanding career. The times when you are not on call and are actually off you will be thinking about the job. As an aspiring medical student myself, I try to get away from anything related to school, reaearch included, despite my love for it.
    Thanks for your videos, I love them.

I am currently going to undergrad, since I just graduated from high school, but all of the advice are something I look forward into doing while studying and exploring the medical field. I would like to give a suggestion though if you don't mind: Your videos have very good content but you seem nervous while talking. Especially when you say "um" and fidget around a lot. Hi!! I absolutely love your videos, super encouraging!! I've began to really enjoy and love emergency medicine. But im super nervous when it comes to completing my degree on time. I'm in a early college high school program (basically I take high school courses along with College courses so when I graduate from high school I'll have a Associate of science degree along with my high school diploma.) The reason im so nervous is because after I graduate from high school I plan to only go to a university for at least 2 more years so that I can major in biology and minor in pre-med. Im very VERY nervous that I'm not going to finish in 2 years because I know how many classes that are required. Plus I want to be fully prepared and ready to start applying/ going through the process of getting into med school. So basically Once I graduate high school I'll already have my associates of science so I'll start off as a junior at a university, with your opinion do you think its possible for me to finish in 2 years??

    • @TheStrivetoFit

      I think for 1st year of med school, don't worry too much about USMLE/Step and just focus on doing well in school and make sure to do as much deep learning as possible (avoid cramming). You may have a little extra time during your 1st year so reach out to shadow doctors in fields you may be interested in or dedicate few hours a week to research

    • @seymabayram3748
      @seymabayram3748 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TheStriveToFit but i graduated first year med school now i will be second

    • @TheStrivetoFit
      @TheStrivetoFit  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      during 2nd year, start framing everything you learn in school in terms of how it may be asked on the USMLE Step. If you want, you can start fiddling around with Kaplan Q bank or First Aid Q&A (I would save UWorld for dedicated step studying time... personal pref though). Avoid relying sole on board prep review materials as they tend to just touch on the surface and don't contain as much detail so learn from your professors or textbooks. same advice as M1 year applies-- learn deeply and avoid cramming-- all the stuff you learn will come back when you start to study for Step 1

    Hi Jamie, I know you're getting tons of questions but I need your advice! I'm a Psychology student at the moment. I've found a Clinical psychologist that has expressed a desire to let me shadow her for a while which is exiting! The other day she said she would call me and we would make final arrangements but she didn't. It's been 5 days now without any contact. Do you think the wise option is to drop her a message/email or should I leave her as I know she is very busy and MAY get back to me when she's less busy. I don't wanna seem pushy but I really need this experience but also at the same time I don't wanna be complacent.

    hi, jamie! i'm going to be a junior in high school and i plan to proceed a career in the medical field. my school offers a clinical rotation course, however the class doesn't offer any advance credit which will lower my GPA. in your opinion, would it be better to continue with the clinical course class to earn experience or should i drop it and focus on getting a higher GPA by taking AP classes instead?

    • @TheStrivetoFit
      @TheStrivetoFit  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      my personal opinion is that high school GPA doesn't really make a big difference in getting into medical school. It matters for college admissions obviously but the college you go to (as long as it's a 4 year institution) also doesn't make a big diff in whether you get into med school or not. So my advice is, if you think the extra clinical experience will help you determine whether you want to pursue medicine or not, then do it (although there are other ways to gain clinical experience that won't affect your GPA-- e.g. volunteering, etc). If you want to keep all your options open for college and keep your GPA as high as possible then I would say take the AP classes. Hope this helps!
