      Very helpful! Coming from US, what do you recommend for a phone data plan? Buy a SIM card at the airport or downtown? How about currency? Do we need to exchange for some euros?

      @@triduytran Great questions! Most places accept mobile payment and credit card in Lisbon. I’d say bring 100 euros in cash just in case - you will probably not end up using them. As for the sim card, I personally haven’t purchased it - we had international phone plans which worked out fine.

    Hi. Just stumble upon your video and it's great. Some useful tips for first timers. Specially the driving car through narrow streets. As far as restaurants are concerned, this is definitely the norm. If you book a table for 8pm you can stay until you feel like it. But beware, there are already some restaurants, especially those in more touristy areas, that already take reservations by time slots. Don't forget to confirm first. Great channel. Keep up the good work.!

    Really helpful tips for first timer like me! Can I ask about your phone's internet connection while you're traveling Portugal or Europe in general? Did you get it from your plan provider in the US or you opted to buy local sim cards?

    • @NewYorkerJuhui
      @NewYorkerJuhui  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Rachelle. In general, I think buying a local sim card or using a hotspot device (if your airbnb provides this) is the best way to get decent connection without spending too much. My experience with paying for faster connections (like 4G) to my own provider (t-mobile) hasn't worked out so well. It gets too expensive. If you happen to use Google Fi, I think there's no distinction between local and abroad usage.

    Be careful, the pavements can be quite slippery as well as being steep. Like that arrow mark idea on the highways.

    Hi Juhui, thank you for the video! Do you know how common Uber/taxi is in Lisbon? Is it possible to get an Uber/taxi in the evening?

    • @NewYorkerJuhui
      @NewYorkerJuhui  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're so welcome! Getting a Uber in Lisbon is really easy and inexpensive. I didn't personally call an Uber in the evening/night, but as long as it's not too late, I am sure you will have no problem finding an Uber in Lisbon :)

    I'll be going to Portugal early next year with my girlfriend so thanks for the video. First question, how many places would you say are cash only? I'm not a fan of carrying money (we're in 2022 after all) and prefer to just use my credit card to rack up rewards. Do I need to actually bring cash?
    I'd also consider myself a semi budget conscious traveler, not rich enough to disregard prices completely but still want to have a good time because who knows if I'll be able to go there again. Not including flight and hotel, would 75-100 Euros per day be a good budget?

    • @NewYorkerJuhui
      @NewYorkerJuhui  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're visiting big cities like Lisbon, you will hardly need cash! Credit cards and mobile phone payments are so common. I will recommend to bring at least 50 to 100 euros for the whole trip though, just in case. I think your budget is good. It really depends on how much you want to spend on food and drinks daily, but in general, there are so many good and affordable local restaurants and cafes in Lisbon. Happy travels!

    Hi Juhui, thank you for the videos! My husband, daughter and I are going to Portugal end of September/early October. Question is, do you need an international driver's license to rent/drive in Portugal? When we went to Italy, we were required to have one and ended up getting quite a big fine for not having one. Thank you!

    • @NewYorkerJuhui
      @NewYorkerJuhui  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Laura, great question! We only had the U.S. driver's license, and we had no issues with renting and driving in Portugal. Since I was there earlier this year, I encourage you to double-check to see if Portugal has changed their policies recently. I highly doubt it though. I wish you and your family happy travels!

      I’ve traveled to Portugal in the past and as I was told, you don’t need an international driver’s license (that was in 97, don’t know if it is required now) BUT, should you get stopped by the police, it is always best to have the international license. Cost for the license at AAA is $20 and a photo, but they will take your photo and put it into the license while you wait.

    7:58, What? Why? They close for good or close early?

    • @NewYorkerJuhui
      @NewYorkerJuhui  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it was both. Some restaurants in Algarve were closed temporarily for some reasons, and restaurants in Lisbon were closed 2-3 days a week
