I’m actually excited to be getting into one piece. So far I’m enjoying everything. The live action is to thank. Give it a try if you haven’t.

    This is what Oda wanted!
He wanted to reach people, who wouldn’t give One Piece a Chance because of its length or because they are not into anime/manga.
I’ve been a fan of One Piece for the past 19 years (I started when I was 14 years old). My husband isn’t into anime/manga but he really enjoyed the live-action series and he can’t wait for the next season. I’m so thrilled to finally being able to discuss One Piece with him.

I was hooked on One Piece from the very beginning, but before watching it, I had a very bad prejudice towards this show because of its goofiness. I'm so glad that I started watching it anyway. It was actually the German opening song that got me started watching.
Arlong Park made me completely fall in love with the show and once I had caught up with the anime, I switched to the manga. I really love how One Piece evolves over time. Everything gets bigger and the Straw Hats get involved in so many crazy things. Now the last saga has started after Wano and it's showing that we are getting into the last part of the story. I'm so hyped!!!

Although it is true that Oda did help this project. I dont think we should discredit matt Owens and the rest of the writers, and everyone working on the show. Those are the People that really made this. They are massive one piece fans and know the story. This is the reason why they wanted to make it. And Oda was willing to let them make it BECAUSE they know the story so well and love it. This is why Oda has never let anyone make a live action before, and why this was the right time (+ cgi is better these days)

      At last someone said it....
I was getting annoyed by all the underserved skeptisism again Hollywood writers that people are showing against one piece LA writers (Matt Owens).
Matt Owens is the reason the one piece LA exists and there is nothing wrong in trusting someone with genuine care and respect for one piece...

    • @combogalis
      @combogalis 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yes. Matt Owens had to personally prove to Oda that he understood One Piece at its core. And they had to not only translate the work to English, but the writing and humor to be more westernized and to work for live action, and change the structure to 8 hour-long episodes drastically shortening run time while still making it feel like One Piece. It must have been incredibly difficult.
People like to blame hollywood writers, but more often than not, the problem is executives making demands of writers that work against the material. Hollywood producers who often seem to disdain the industry and audiences to begin with and don't understand or care about the art.
As much as Netflix and Tomorrow Studios have messed up in the past, I have to admire that they gave these writers the room to do what they felt was needed.
That said, I am still confident that without Oda's heavy involvement, the show would have suffered a lot (especially if, as it seems, he had the power to say no to the producers which even the showrunners might not have had)

As a veteran fan of 24 years in this community (started at age 11) here are the 3 golden rules:
    1. Don't skip. It's about the journey. There's so many lessons and good behaviour to be learned from these characters. If you skip, you will miss most of that.
    2. Don't listen to youtubers. They're in it for the money and create fanservice content, which the fandom forgets is entertainment as well.
    Which brings us to
    3. Don't trust the fandom. They'll lead you astray in a heartbeat and before you know it you're posting toxic comments and attacking Oda-sensei because you were led astray. Stick with the manga/anime canon (anime adds canon, such as original episodes, and PG-fied scenes).

    • @WahooSerious

@@WahooSerious I am honestly disgusted with how many fans recommend speedruns or one pace or skipping entire arcs, some even skipped all pre-timeskip and just started with Water 7 as their first episodes..
      And you can tell.
      The community changed.
      The mood changed.
      The ambiance changed.
No one's watching out of love for and companionship with these characters
They do it because they want to be part of the hype...
The Strawhat mentality within the community has as good as completely evaporated. It's just me and a few other lonely pirates left out there, spreading the good word.
I am mòst dissapointed in the influencers and fellow millenials (and older). Because you had 1 job, teach them our ways.
And instead you all caved and started using the ways of these new fans instead... the disrespect towards one of thè best writers and artists of the millennium, it's appalling.
And when you say that, these days; they gang up on you and say childish toxic crap like "you must be fun at parties"
Well, I don't burn the DJ at the parties I'm at; so idk wtf they think they're doing, disrespecting a man that has sacrificed so much for us. Show some g'damn respect, zoomers and younger ones; and traitorous milennials and older generations.

I was also disappointed at how character development wasn´t entirely there, how Kuro turned into a horror movie villain, how lots of characters that are important to their backstories are missing and how sometimes the introduction felt rushed, like with Nami, BUT I understand why it had to be done in order to actually make this happen. Nami´s scene of stabbing her arm I was very worried about but bawled my eyes out because of the amount of pain that was in her voice as if it was actually her. Spectacular.

It’s not as crazy as you think. It’s not actually 61 episodes. That thing you looked up includes a whole filler arc plus a bunch of filler episodes and an arc the live action didn’t cover. In reality it was closer to 43 episodes and on top of that each live action episode is an hour long while each anime episode is 20 minutes long. Thus each live action episode is the equivalent of 3 anime episodes. So (8x3=24) it’s more like condensing 43 episodes into 24 instead of 61 episodes into 8.

One piece is definitely worth experiencing. I just have one recommendation for those who want to skip "filler"; watch the G8 arc. It is such good "filler" that it has been soft canonized later in the story (with a key character being seen in the background). It does not disrupt anything, it actively moves plot elements forward, it doesnt overstay its welcome, and it is just another adventure for the crew to go on. Saying anything more starts to spoil it, but i have heard nothing but praise for the G8 arc.

If you're serious about making videos documenting your watch (and I hope you are), I would recommend doing the East Blue Saga as one video but going arc by arc here on out. You can for sure group some of the shorter arcs together like the first few arcs in the Alabasta Saga, but individual arcs will get long and/or incredibly dense information-wise so covering by sagas can get overwhelming.

As a fan of One Piece for close to 15 years, it is still unbelievable to hear One Piece described as THE anime. It took so long outside of Japan for this to happen.
When I first read and watched it, it felt like everyone in the west was talking about Naruto and Bleach. One Piece was only part of the "big three" because it was so popular in the east. But, to me, it was just so much better than those two, yet so much less appreciated here. It felt like a massive injustice to my favorite piece of media ever.
So nowadays, when I'm reminded that it has finally become truly appreciated globally to the point of being a phenomenon, I still feel a bit like I'm dreaming. It's a wonderful time to be a One Piece fan, old and new.
(Also, I love the OPLA. Although it doesn't quite have the same impact as the anime and manga, I actually think it serves as a better overall introduction to the story because of the pacing, consistency, and broad appeal. There will absolutely be people who might have dropped the anime early on except for having seen the live-action.)

It’s actually nowhere near enough. 🙏

Just like you I didn't start watching One Piece for a very long time despite knowing about it and it being rated very highly, because of the goofiness. While it can drive away people from the show, now in hindsight, I think it's a very powerful writing tool that can elevate a story and I can appreciate it now that I've caught up. It creates *contrast*, which is something that lacks in most stories. A character that is introduced as an over the top happy-go-lucky quirky and annoying person having a traumatic experience later down the line or in their past is so much more effective at pulling at your heartstrings than someone who is always serious or neutral. Once you get to know their story or witness their trauma, their quirkiness starts to rub off on you and you start looking forward to it.
    TLDR:
If you can get through the goofiness, you'll get to experience something very unique and learn to appreciate it.

I remember watching One Piece for the first time when I was 6 years old, it started airing just around then and I've had some breaks from it here and there but for the most part I have been watching it my entire life. As a life long fan, I thoroughly enjoyed the live action. I had to detach it from the manga and anime because it was obvious a 1:1 adaption wouldn't work so there was no use in me trying to compare them that way. I'm glad that the live action has gotten more people into the manga and anime, it's such a fantastic story and it's a shame how many people get too intimidated by it's length. I have yet to have someone I've convinced to start One Piece come back and regret it and my most recent friend caught up to everything in like 6 months haha

LA Luffy works because the people who wrote it know the new Luffy, his struggles and his growth. He has so much to give apart from goofiness.
Also, I think the best approach to One Piece is the one that comes from "I'm just enjoying the ride" because that's what the whole series is about (you will find deeper stories in the OP world, of course, but that's its essence).

Its funny I have watched so many TH-camrs and friends mention how the length was intimidenting and I believe I was blessed enough that when I first discovered ANIME in 2016 with zero knowledge of what it was through a friend One piece was the 3rd Anime I watched after binging Attack on Titan (My first Anime ever) and BLEACH and therefore Anime's with lots of episodes was what I wanted the most. As a result any anime that has a lot of episodes I look forward to and I believe it because of One Piece.

I started the anime in like kate august to start of september and finally cracked the 1k episodes. I recommend everyone who is interested in one piece to just not feel like its a commitment to watch it all. You can just watch a arc or season and take a break. I took a break after like 800 episodes and watched other stuff for 2 weeks too. Ultimatively it took >2 decades for all these episodes to be produced, and its absolutely not taking that long to watch them, so catching up is possible any time.
Also after 1k episodes i can sum.up my experience as: its a fun Adventure i dont get bored of watching. It doesnt feel like i watched that much to me either since im having fun.

Long time One Piece fan here. I really loved the live action. I made it possible to introduce it to my girlfriend and it made her fall in love with the series. She decided to wait for the next seasons of the live action instead of watching the anime.
I also agreed on Sanji's simping change. I don't mind it in the anime since it speak to how open of a character he is. He really expresses his thoughts and feelings, which makes it really meaningful whenever he is bottling something up, or whenever he succumbs to his temptations and is secretive about it. Anime Sanji also has his romantic gentleman womanizer mode just like the live action Sanji. The character still feels the same without making live action Sanji a creepy weirdo.

I avoided one piece because of its length for a long time. I've now read the manga twice. TWICE. It's just that good.I might die before it ends and that would be a major regret. Also I'm on my own adventure. I have been bouncing around the caribbean sea for a while now and while I've been able to avoid gun fights and things I have definitely been living in a very exciting and deliberate way. One Piece captures the way that I feel all the time and I love it for that. Medellin is a fun freaking city by the way. Come visit me. I'm waiting for you.

Very good point about Usopp and Sanji. It’s been a while since I watched the East blue arc but yeah, nothing about what Usopp did in the live action syrup village part established his character well enough to join the crew. I wonder if that could’ve been given an extra scene or two to give him more depth. Same with Sanji and the Jinn character. That moment establishes Sanji as a really good person and it adds to why luffy wanted him as a crew member

You started the anime, ok. I just have one tip for you as someone who is caught up to the latest manga chapter: when the anime gets too boring and slow, read the manga instead in those specific moments, you can find the chapters online divided by arc. The manga doesn't have the need to show you characters reaction facial expressions for seconds at a time, or show segments of the same flashback multiple times, it's so much faster to go through it. Hope you will enjoy this amazing story.
