And even in that golden era, this is a game that stood out. And despite updates, Blizzard has miraculously let this game off the hook without infecting it with monetization, probably thinking something along the lines of "we will leave this game pure so that it keeps our reputation somewhat intact". Today's gaming industry can't even hope to recreate such a masterpiece.
The thing is the reason why grief is banned in melee duels is because of the venom. . . Melee duels take a minute of swining. So if someone's poisoned and rng doesn't end it, the unpoisoned person has a massive advantage. It has nothing to do with it being 2 good.
I love melee duel, the OG ppl on D2 LOD Classic server would've joined our game "Elite Zeal Duel" back in the days 2002-2005ish hehehehe. Conc barb can join too.

Yeah, this shows how awesome D2's itemization truly is! :) Oh, and the hit chance calculation.. level matters a lot less the higher in level you get, so for this end game dueling it doesn't matter much, but for the majority of players it's the reason they don't land their attacks

Back in Uni, I botted 24/7 with 10 x D2 accounts over a year and had some decent pvp chars. Only to gear up myself. Still could have had better gears, so this game can get quite long if you are perfectionist.
Your editing skills👏👏👏 have improved significantly. Although I don't play the game anymore, it was some damn interesting content into a niche world that I never knew existed. Especially interesting considering that this game is 20+ years old. Keep up the good work.. 🤝
Cooley you should consider a build guide series for dueling builds since a lot has changed since LoD and there isn’t that many current guides out there

D2. Brutal Ethereal of Repair with 4 sockets, not bought but found, were my best items with 40/15s. I could trade these for anything. I even had 2 Occulus rings at one point. Yes those were Bugged SOJs with the Mage weapon Occulus imprinted onto the item. This was on Bnet, not the open realm games.
UsWest 2005-2012 i played ZvZ and BvB alot. So much fun and such a great community of people. The d2jsp guilds and all the trading. Peak of my video game memories

But I'm still pissed at myself for not selling my LoD items when I had the chance. 3x fully kitted characters with 451s and 32020s. 5x hybrid runewords and a ton of GG rare and crafted PvP gear. When i was 12 i joined a private server that was basically only melee duels with perfect crafter gear. All gear was "legit" but you didnt have to farm for them just roll for hours, good times
diablo 2 LOD has incredible itemization, leagues above d3 and d4, i played the crap out of d2 from 2000-2010’ish, it’s so ingrained in my brain that even without having played the game in nearly 15 years i still remeber how to build almost every character and spec , the game is incredible and has aged so well especially with the releasing of resurrected
Way way back in the long ago times I use to do stuff like this. Many things in this video are true. EDC is trash, always has been. Death runeword is a very good weapon but it drops you down to a lower breakpoint, as suggested in this video. Whatever RW went into the vortex shields were also bad. Phoenix was good. I remember doing the math and you needed to get like a 3soc visionary (120/45) for EDZ to reach the final BP. Still not sure if that's possible to this day, but I always remember 2soc visionaries being possible. This was also generally my experience though. There were very few things that beat the EDZ setup.
It's amazing how much more depth this decades old game has compared to D4. This is peak itemization.

Specifically, it was implemented for BvB whirlwind fights, and it became standard across all melee duels over time.
Also vamps are considered bm. This build wouldn't fly in the actual ladder.

I remember (trying) to build a melee dueler back in 1.10, and man it was expensive. I gave that up and shifted to normal duelers pretty quickly.

Death runeword is also banned in most gm melee leagues. Alongside the Doom (Holy Freeze aura), Eternity (slow by 33% + cb 20% [Ber]), Grief obviously.

Diablo 2's End Game Items are Crafted Gloves, Amulets, Rare Weapons. Magic Armor (Jeweler's Whale + Godly) are great too but you need 40/15s
