Pretty nice install. Zip tie some bug mesh to the vent and its a great system. I like the window unit on the outside video you did which saves space but this helps you run in the rain and take humidity out, something for me to think about.
I camped this weekend with my portable air conditioner vented through the floor! Thanks again for the instructions. I worked out well. In my case the floor is metal so I used a 6.5 inch metal hole saw.

Thank you. I would just say, I don’t know if it’s a viable option for you, but in a subsequent video I explained why I chose to use a window unit in my new pop up instead of a portable. It works a million times better. However, if the portable is the best option for you, I haven’t seen a better way of venting it than what I have posted. It should work.
I know this is old but get a 6in to 4in reducer over in the duck work section of any home store then drill a hole in that to run your condensate pipe that alway you have a tight fit from outside elements
Thanks! Yes, it was something I studied, planned, researched, replanned, etc for months. The only things I could find were people who had either destroyed their canvas or done something dumber, all of which looked horrible! To your question, yes; I camped last weekend and it was a great test. In fact, it may have been the test of all tests. Our site was basically in direct sunlight from 10am to 5pm. And it happened to be the hottest 2 days we’ve had in Tulsa in about 8 months. On Friday the temp was 96 and the heat index was 105. On Saturday it was about the same for temps (95-96) and the heat index was over 100 again. Given the camper was in direct sun, no AC would keep a PopUp cool. It was warm in the camper during the day even with the unit set on 67-68 and running the fan on high. However, at about 6ish, it would start to make a marked turn towards cooling down. By the time the sun went down, the inside of the camper would be in the 70s. Even better, by the time we were getting everyone down for bed, the inside temp would be in the upper 60’s. My wife even got up in the middle of the night to turn the temp up on the unit because she was cold!! The drain also worked perfectly! Put the condensation right out on the ground during the evening and I didn’t hardly see any water during the day. Overall, I think it was a roaring success and I couldn’t be happier. I want to do this, I only have 25" clearance when the beds are pushed in. How do you transport it from place to place? I could only fit it with the beds pulled out
In the hottest days it will struggle. What you can do to help it . Is make a insulated sleeve to run that exhaust tube Through hotter and longer it runs more radiant heat he will put off of that exhaust tube
They have. I have, in fact. But it doesn’t make that much difference. If you set it up like I did, there isn’t that much hose exposed. I probably only had about 1 1/2 ft of hose from back of unit to floor.
These won't work inside a 12x10 aluminum back porch closure at all we needed window unit. It faces South has mixed deciduous/ pines ( evergreen) trees This was 4 years ago they have tiny window unit today cheap cheap cheaper then inside mods But in camper uses you can likely use under more shade trees if its ac weather?
I’m wondering if your AC still works properly I have the identical unit to what you have but I did a side exit for my vent and I have a rather large cargo trailer but the compressor comes on for a short time and then turns back off because there’s too much apparently I’m just wondering if yours continues to work fine when you really have hot days and would you say that it was a success
I no longer have this portable unit, but when I did, I used it several times with no problems. It worked perfectly. If your compressor is turning off, it may be bc of condensation. It will give you an error code if there is too much water in the pan. I used to drain mine continuously through the hole in the floor and it ran great even on very hot days. In fact, the hottest weekend of the year last year (index of 120+ all weekend), I ran my unit continuously without any issues. I obviously don’t know without looking, but it sounds like you may have a condensation/drainage problem. If you’ve got a side exit, it may not be draining well enough. I just don’t know. Let me know if I can help further.
Hi, l have a question, l have a 14,000 btu black&decks l put on my popup, but l used a extension cord to plug to the pole outside was a 20amp and the compresor turn off every a lot so we changed to 30amp but still doing the same....you have any idea what is going on?, lm almost 🥵 so l work nights and trying to sleep in a day but l can't because the temperature is between 102° to 111°
I am shocked that no one makes a connector for the Rood vent in a pop up, I looked everywhere. I mean that would be the perfect spot for the exhaust, It is crazy
If anyone does this, be sure to buy a dual hose unit or you'll be sorry. The air being blow out on this single hose unit has to come from somewhere. Yep, every crack and crevice will have hot outside air sucked through it. I bought my dual hose unit from Costco. 8000 btu heat pump. That means it cools in the summer and heats in the winter by reversing the freon flow. $450-500. Goodluck!
Has worked like a charm!! Just used it over Father’s Day, had heat index over 100 with camper in Sun most of he afternoon. Despite that, it was nice and cool inside when we went to bed. Fantastic solution. Would definitely stay away from a heavy rooftop AC that will only increase risk of leaks and almost certainly, at some point in time, warp the roof due to the weight.

Yes in my camper. I would say it’s generally true of most campers also given this particular AC draws a little over 11amps. So basically, as long as it’s the only thing running on the outlet, you should be fine. However I wouldn’t run a bunch of stuff at once. Ideally, i would locate your ac so you can plug the AC into the 20amp outlet, which I addressed in the video. Most campers have a 20amp outlet that has a separate dedicated breaker just for running an AC.
So I just threw it in my truck. You don’t want it laying on its side. That will mess up the coil. Always keep it upright. I folded the back seat of my truck up and it stands upright both coming and going to the campsite.
Never put the ac unit on its side. If it doesn't fit when camper is down put unit in the garage or in the house or somewhere you can store the unit where its safe.
Good question. Mine is a 10k btu but it’s prob more like 8k with the new rating system. What you need really just depends. My camper is about 130 sq ft. but the new BTU rating system can be kind of misleading. Now, a 10k btu unit is more like 6-8. If you’re planning on using it when it’s VERY hot, AND you can pull off more btus without losing too much space for about the same cost, I’d say go for it.
When you travel and it's a wet day...the water on the ground will splash upon to the cut hole thus resulting in wood rot overtime...have you compensated the future wood rot??
So I guess I’d raise three points in responding to your question: (1) the water that may splash on to the bottom of the camper while traveling is the same whether you cut a hole in the bottom or not; (2) as I stated in the video, the access port I installed has a foam washer that will prevent moisture from getting into the interior of the camper; and (3) to the extent your worried about water getting onto the wood under the camper, you can do as I did, and paint the undercarriage with rubberized undercoating. This will prevent moisture to the extent possible but I think that’s probably overkill.
You should convert your portable ac to a two hose setup. Only having one hose will suck the hot outdoor air inside the vehicle/rv, thus loosing the cooling battle. You need to suck air from outside while also blowing the hot exhaust outside.

I put a curtain rod and thick curtain above the kitchen and the hallway opening to keep that cool air in the area that we use the most. It'll keep it right at 67° in there. But I'm looking to do what you did to my tiny log cabin I have instead of the window or log wall. Go thru the floor like yourself

That heat issue with hoses on portable AC units always makes me wonder. Why hasn't anyone tried just using pipe wrap insulation on them?

What's the outside diameter of your ac vent tube
What size flange did you use. Was it a 4” or a 6” for the exhaust?
i think its was 8 inch not 6 inch and on the video its clear its bigger Hatch w/Detachable Cover.

How do a person empty the water
Put the drainage tube out the same hole that you vent the hot air. That’s how I did it and it works great

Fair point. I bend the exhaust hose once it’s through the hole to send hot air out from under the camper.
