- In this video, I show how to install a wall vent for a portable air-conditioning unit. This LG portable air conditioning unit 8000 BTU was purchased at my local Home Depot. When installing a wall vent make sure you get the 6 inch sized wall vent. Good luck and as always when working with power tools be extremely careful. Thank you for watching.

Thats a great idea if you live in a shed. I live in a house (uk) I'm trying to work out how/if I could install a vent through a double layer of brick, mortor and pebbledash 😅
It’s actually a separate office space in the backyard of my home. if you have a window they do have the window kits to exhaust the unit. Or if you know how to use a commercial drill with stone holesaw bits or pay someone to come in and drill the hole. Good luck either way👍🏻

I can’t express how EASY it was to install.This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment.I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

I know it's cumbersome but I would add one more hose as an intake from the outside to cool the condenser directly. It will make a huge difference in cooling capacity

@@TheWatchdogtutorials you must add a second hose to cool the condenser with outdoor air so it leaves the cold air indoors. If not a single hose will just make a vacuum.

Thank you, Sir. Exactly what I was looking for. My HOA recently changed management company and they decided to start f*cking with homeowners with street-facing AC units (which includes portable AC units with exhaust hoses going out a street-facing window) so I have to figure out a solution for my south-facing home office which gets scorched by the Texas sun. This will do the trick because there's nothing in the HOA rules that prohibits feeding a portable AC exhaust *through a wall* instead of through a window. I even had a lawyer friend read through it to confirm this loop-hole. On a side note I will never ever again buy a house with an HOA. F*ck HOAs.

What would happen if insects decide to crawl into the exhaust/vent?
It’s important that you keep the vents clean when not in use. The vents will stayed close keeping them out. When’s it’s on it’s hot exhaust so nothing will go near it. Winter time I’ll fasten a custom cover to keep any type of pesk out

As long as you have a good connection to the outside wall vent you could keep it a foot away from the wall or so. The extra length they give you the flexibility to move it around. I kept mine in the video like that because it was in a dead corner and I didn’t mind the extra length. Good luck

Thanks for the tutorial, I will be installing one of these in my mother's 3-seasons room tomorrow. It's good to know we will need a 6" dryer vent. Question.....what about the drains on these for the condensation? Do you have to run a hose outside for that as well?
No hose needed for this unit. I just disconnect the vent and wheel it outside and open the plug and let it drain. I’ve only had to do it twice per season. Good luck👍🏻
This is perfect for me as I am converting a garage into a bedroom and the garage has no windows through which I could vent an A/C. One question though; the exterior of my house is brick, so what would I use to cut the hole and mount the cover?
You would have to use a Masonry hole saw bit. They are expensive in that size. if you know anyone you can borrow one from try that first. Take care and good luck👍🏻

Well if your converting a garage does it have a dryer in it already? Could maybe go into the same area the dryer vent goes into?
can you use a reducer if you're only a foot or so from the wall? Also, do you have to drain it often?
Not sure about the reducer I haven’t tried it. As for draining the unit it depends on how long it’s in operation. Usually I roll it out and drain it once a week when in use.
@@HighRidgeHandymanthank you! I made the mistake of drilling a 4” vent and figured I’d at least try a 6 to 4. Otherwise I’m stuck trying to enlarge an already existing 4” hole 🤯 and that can’t be easy
I bought the Toshiba RAC-PT1412HVWRU 14/12000 BTU unit for the garage. It has a round duct adapter, but no flex duct came with. This is also the unit where the entire double exhaust is attached & oval. So the question is for AC, is your installation all I need to on this. It’s a garage install with no windows.

I really couldn’t answer that question because I’m not familiar with that model. Definitely research a little bit more if you’re not sure contact the actual repair line for Toshiba they should be able to give you a better answer
@@HighRidgeHandyman I found a TH-cam video of a guy exhausting with a 6” round duct. I’d already seen Locke Supply has a 6” wall duct with louvres.
Just ducting is straightforward.
Yes my question is why oval, what’s the second duct? Heat pump? I think I use the 6” round I’ll have the condenser air going out.

I got it connected through the wall today. Disaster from start to finish. I only blame myself for being out $71 I didn’t need to spend on another 6” Lenox hole saw. Fits the duct great, too small for the L3504 vent I bought from Locke. Anyway a square 6 1/2” hole fits the L3504 louvred vent. Don’t buy that either. I fired up the AC unit, walked outside to the side of the garage, and a louvre had blown out. I touched another one putting it back in, & it fell out. The air is so hot the louvres get soft. I don’t know how his Everbilt is holding up, but an L3504 from Locke is not going to work. I have decorative expanded aluminum and some thin aluminum. I’ll make a bug shield & a roof tomorrow.
AC is blowing very cold air, it’s very quiet, not a factor in the garage. In 24 hours I’ll know how well it will cool the garage.
Remember hole saw NO. Keyhole saw YES. Locke L3504 trash.
I’m going to make aluminum louvres. Easiest fix. I only need cut them, bend them, and roll in & pinch finish nails for hinge pins. The existing louvres are there to be copied. Oh look, ones on the sidewalk 😀
Stupid hose never fits inside of anything 6" that I could find! I am so frustrated-- hose keeps popping out and blowing hot air into my already HOT room! After first year the hose breaks over and over and the manufacturer charges like 100.00 to get a new hose kit.
Mine is stuck in like it was glued very Snug. Try to find one in a flex pipe that will fit better. Are you using the same unit in the video or a smaller size? I also shoved most of the flex ac tube into the vent pipe and kept the unit close. If your stretching to far try moving closer and shoving more into the vent pipe
What do you do with the water that filters from the back from the machine? Does that go outside too, or just drops in a bucket behind the machine?
This machine traps the water inside a rear compartment. I usually disconnect the exhaust vent tube and just wheel it out onto the front porch and unscrew the cap and let it drain. I guess if you planned on not moving it you could drill a hole through the flr or wall and install a drain line.

I have a basement with tiny windows. I would have to go through brick. 🐀🐾
If one of the windows is removable you can remove the window. Cut a piece of plywood to fit then drill your 6 inch hole and install the tube through there. If not you would have to purchase a 6 inch hole saw bit Masonary to get through the brick. Once the hole is created and the vent is installed you can caulk it to keep animals out. Also put a cage on the outside of the vent to prevent birds

@@HiFiInsider it should vent to the outdoors. Venting into an attic could be hazardous! Do your own research but I WOULD NOT do it!!

I need help😢😢 i installed a black and decker 10,000 btu through the wall in a L13"xW6"xH9" room. It has a small window 22"x11". My problem is i can hear a loud pressure through the window and door when the ac is on. I have to either slightly open the door or the window to stop the noise. The ac also stops cooling if both door and window are shut. What is the problem 😢😢😢😢😢is this normal??? its my small nail room
From what your saying I see a few issues. One the ac unit at 10,000 btu is built for around 300 square feet. You’d be better off with a 5000 btu for up to 150 square feet being the smallest unit you can get. Also the room size being so small when closed up will create an air pressure issue being closed in. It’s recommended you keep the door cracked open a bit to balance out airflow. Also check your air filter and make sure it’s clean. Also make sure your unit is draining outside and that it’s not clogged.

I want to do this same thing in my garage but my exterior wall is siding. Would the installation be any different since it’s not mounting to a flat wall?
There is a vinyl siding exterior vent attachment you can put for a flush mount look. But you have to cut out some siding to install it or you can just attach it to the siding and make sure you caulk all around it that’s all. Good luck

My garage has brick. Can I run this over the brick and through the soffit?
Not 100% sure. Check the manual on which ever unit you choose and make sure you can extend the exhaust length with allowed degree bends. Good luck Terry

No it has a value you open up a few times during the summer and drain it out.
How would you do this with cinder block wall?
See if you can find a masonry 6inch hole saw. If not mark a 6 inch hole and use a mason drill bit and make multi holes on the outline and then just hammer it open. Be careful and USE safety goggles!!

why not push it up to the wall like why look at the hose. it would look more sleek if the hose was hidden
What about the winter time? Did you figure out a cap for it when it’s not being used?
I made an insulated cover to go over the entire outside vent. I secured with a few screws to keep it sealed up and warm.👍🏻

Hey what about fire hazard through drywall - the metal duct gets hot? Suggestions ?
the exhaust will get hot to the touch, 130-140 degrees, you'd need 400-500 degrees before you're nearing fire risk

As long as you can safely secure the venting it should be ok. Make sure you read the owners manual on which ever unit you choose to use and make sure it’s safe to do. Good luck👍🏻

This particular model is just an air condition model. They do sell air conditioning with heat pump units. I wish I knew I would’ve bought the other one. Thanks for watching good luck
@@HighRidgeHandyman some of them here in the us have an electric heater coil, i found one and it blows warm air but the compressor doesn’t kick on in heat mode 😩
