  • I was alone, up a 33m tower overlooking a Harpy Eagle nest in a Brazil Nut tree, when I turned around to find this young Harpy Eagle just 1.5 m away.
Near Cotriguaçu, Mato Grosso, Brazil. 06/09/2019

It looked as if it was simply satisfying its curiosity. Like "How in the heck did this guy get here?"

The harpy eagle is a mythical creature straight out of stories of Greek mythology 🤗👍🏼. I’d consider it an honour to meet one 😊.

Harpy eagles vision is split in both eyes so by rotation of his head he can get different a different view of what it's looking at which makes it look very confused and more like an owl than a eagle

I was watching a documentary on the harpy eagle not too long ago that had some interesting facts through observation and testing. They were show to have a level of intelligence on par with some primates (specifically howler monkeys) and could plan attacks rather than just indiscriminate grabbing at prey and hoping for the best, plus those talons are reported to exert a force of around 500psi (comparison - human adult bite is around 160, pitbull around 380 and a mastiff around 535 psi). They could crush your forearm.
Good idea to wear a kevlar / stab proof vest when working near to them

With talons as large as a bears claws lol. They can get taller than 3 feet as well, and are the most powerful raptor. It could do fatal damage if it wanted to.

@@setokaiba. well it is the deadliest bird of prey alive today, but the extinct haast's eagles are larger and they hunted moas (moas are A LOT LARGER than an adult ostrich so it's not a joke to prey on these moa birds)
