The story was 100% genuine. James's father stage 4 kidney disease and this song and video was made to show awareness and appeal for a kidney donor. His father did find a donor and subsequently is doing well after having his kidney transplant. The older man in the video was James's real father.

This is his actual father who had end stage kidney disease. No kidney donors could be found however as a direct result of this video a distant cousin came forward. James was deployed and served as an armoured reconnaissance officer in the NATO deployment in Kosovo and whenever either had to go away on duty, their line(s) was: "I'm not your son, you're not my father, we're just two grown men saying goodbye". That little pat on the arm Charles Blunt gives James at the very end of the video gets me in the feels EVERY. TIME. It's such a simple gesture that speaks volumes.
James Father is a former Colonel in the British Army. James himself is a former Captain. At the time of this recording, his father (Charles) seen with him in the video was dyeing of Kidney disease. At the time everybody thought he would be dead in a few months. Im not your son, your not my father just two grown men saying good bye was what the father said to James on his deployments. After the Recording was done, all the crew were in tears & sobbing. Charles in his British Stiff Upper Lip tone says "Hey, why is everybody crying, I'm still here." None of James or his siblings were compatible to be donors. Fortunately, after this song was released & the story was made public, a distant cousin with the same name as his father, (Charles Blunt) came forward after hearing the story & was compatible & thus Charles is now alive & well living with James Mother. It was all recorded in one take as James wanted it as it was in it's rawness/ this is raw male remorse
This song of James Blunt’s, “Monsters” was a heartfelt tribute to his father. The emotional track reflects the deep bond between them and a touching farewell. In the music video for “Monsters,” James Blunt sings directly to the camera, his eyes welling up with tears...The video is so powerful because sitting beside James Blunt is his real-life dad, Colonel Charles Blount. who was a former cavalry officer, & battling stage 4 chronic kidney disease. The song captures the raw emotions of facing mortality and saying the things one wants to say to a loved one before it’s too late 💗 I can never get through this, without crying..........
When my father passed in April.. The sorrow I seen in both my brothers eyes wrecked me..I am the only daughter and my relationship with my father was different then theirs..it was loving and my dad was my pillar.. But for my brothers.. They had a rocky relationship with our dad because they where so much like him and the hurt I heard in their voices on how it was too late was pure agony cause I knew I couldn't take away the pain and loss they felt. I listen to this song to let my pain out ..I quietly mourn so they don't have to carry my pain also..this song helps me in some weird way...thanks for the reaction.
James dad was actually dying from kidney disease & this was his tribute & farewell to his dad. Thankfully his dad received a donor kidney & is doing okay now. If this song doesn't get to you emotionally, there is something wrong with you. This song resonates with me as I was my dad's caregiver for 5 years until he passed away 4 years ago.
1st time hearing this song I got to the point his dad put his hand on James' arm and moved his thumb before bawling. The line "we're just two grown men saying goodbye" was what they both said when they were leaving for military postings. When my mum passed, she was hanging on and I had to tell her that my siblings and I would be okay and she could rest now. She passed holding my hand. To have the tables turnt from parent and child is bittersweet but wouldn't change the memory for the world ❤

It's a great song. I wasn't able to be there when my dad passed away at age 54. When my mom passed away, though, I was there, along with my oldest daughter, my youngest daughter, and my sister, and my daughters' kids, and we were able to get my brother online on my sister's laptop, and though she couldn't talk to us by then, we got to see her eyes light up and she nodded her head, and we knew she understood that we were there for her, and then she was gone, a few hours later. It was tough, but she had been in a lot of pain, etc., for a long time, and she had been seeing my dad every day, and the day before she "left," she was talking to Jesus who had walked into the room and stayed with her for a while. I'm glad James' dad didn't actually leave him that day, but the song from his heart is still very powerful, and a reminder to many people about how life and love "go around." Thanks for the great reaction.

I still cannot get through this song, rips my insides out.. I lost my mother in a car accident when i was 13, i was the 2nd oldest of 5 brothers, my dad sent me and my older brother to live with our grandmother, he never recovered from the loss of his wife and i still at 57 years old have not recovered from the loss of my mom. I heard this song a month after my dad died in 2020 after he had a stroke. He fought so hard for a month and a half and 2 weeks after the pandemic mom and my older sister made the decision to remove life support because he wasn't coming back. The hospital let us say goodbye even though they wanted to break the rules and let us all be there but mom was the only one allowed when he passed away. She let us know with a text. We were there every day or at least every other day and the hospital was 2 hours away so mom was pretty much living at the hospital so his doctors and nurses became family. When covid hit visits were stopped. Two of my sisters and I work in nursing homes so we understood why. We just hope dad did. Saying that last goodbye and not wanting to let go of his hand was the worst pain I've ever felt. Please hug your fathers for me because I can't hug mine but I'll always love him. 💔
The production company wanted to clean up the soundtrack, with the quavering, cracks, etc., but James pushed back, and insisted it needed to be the raw, unpolished version. He was right. Of course, 'unpolished' does not quite describe it when the performer is as professional and experienced as James.
It is such a personal song that we all can relate to but I cannot stand the choir at the end.. it was an intimate song between a father and son.. it drives me crazy when every song has a choir or a "guest" rapper
Yeah that was a unique composition choice but the song was so beautiful and has helped so many people! I’m sure James made that choice for a particular reason. Thanks for watching!

Wow, that is so sad… so sorry for your loss
@@setonhillstudios thank you.
He’s not big back in the day. He’s been big since back in the day and still is.
Gotcha. 👍🏻 Glad he is still thriving! He definitely deserves it
God bless you brother, you got my sub
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed the video!
😢❤
Such an emotional performance… Thanks for hanging with us and checking out the video!
Cakra Khan version bro 👍☕🇮🇩
Thanks for the suggestion!
React to his song the girl who never was
I suggest Jennifer Nettles song "Stay"
If you haven’t seen it yet, you should check out I Wish You the Best by Lewis Capaldi. The music video is the main thing, it’s a try not to sob
Gotcha, thanks for the suggestion!
The production company wanted to clean up the soundtrack, with the quavering, cracks, etc., but James pushed back, and insisted it needed to be the raw, unpolished version. He was right. Of course, 'unpolished' does not quite describe it when the performer is as professional and experienced as James.
Great point and it was obviously a great decision for such an emotional tune! Thanks for the insight!
They are both Ex British army so mad respect to both of them.
💯 This was such a moving song and video! Thanks for watching!
Iam Tongi was good, but there's nothing like the original, nothing like the emotion that Blunt brings.
Shewee! You ain’t lying! Just the video and the overall emotion in the performance was like none other! Amazing!
@@setonhillstudios If you've ever had your heart torn out from a break up, Goodbye My Lover is almost as good by James as well.
@@sonofjay817 Thanks for the suggestion!
🥲🥲🥲🥲💔
Since you like emotional music, music that touches your soul...try Eva CASSIDY OVER THE RAINBOW LIVE
Awesome, thanks for the suggestion!
❤️❤️❤️
It is such a personal song that we all can relate to but I cannot stand the choir at the end.. it was an intimate song between a father and son.. it drives me crazy when every song has a choir or a "guest" rapper
Yeah that was a unique composition choice but the song was so beautiful and has helped so many people! I’m sure James made that choice for a particular reason. Thanks for watching!
Good news tho. This song got his dad a kidney.
That’s what someone else was sharing! So thankful there was a happy ending to this! 🙏🏻
Why ruin the song by cutting in ,WHY NOT LET PLAY🤔🙄
Just a different way of reacting. We will never be the channel that sits quietly until the end, just not our style. We understand it’s not for everybody ✌🏼
This is a reaction video. We want to see his reaction. If you don't want any interruptions, go watch the original video.
@@DeeDeex2 Thank you 😁 Appreciate you watching and hanging out!
Why not just let the song play, wait till the end🙄🤔
We understand our style ain’t for everyone. Have a great one!
